The spin dynamics of the prototypical quasi one-dimensional antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin S=1/2 chain KCuF3 is investigated by electron spin resonance spectroscopy. Our analysis shows that the peculiarities of the spin dynamics require a new dynamical form of the antisymmetric anisotropic spin-spin interaction. This dynamical Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction is related to strong oscillations of the bridging fuorine ions perpendicular to the crystallographic c axis. This new mechanism allows to resolve consistently the controversies in observation of the magnetic and structural properties of this orbitally ordered perovskite compound.

In order to clarify why the experimental magnetization curve of the spherical kagome cluster in {W72V30} at 0.5 K shows no sign of staircase behavior up to 50 T, we study the effects of Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interactions and tilts of the g tensors, both of which lead to the breaking of the total-S z conservation, by using the exact diagonalization method. It is found that the D vector component parallel to the radiation direction of the polyhedron cancels out the staircase in a low magnetic field region efficiently. The tilts of the g tensors are inherent to systems defined on the poly- he…

We investigate the effects of Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interactions on the frustrated $J_1$-$J_2$ kagome-Heisenberg model using the pseudo-fermion functional-renormalization-group (PFFRG) technique. In order to treat the off-diagonal nature of DM interactions, we develop an extended PFFRG scheme. We benchmark this approach in parameter regimes that have previously been studied with other methods and find good agreement of the magnetic phase diagram. Particularly, finite DM interactions are found to stabilize all types of non-collinear magnetic orders of the $J_1$-$J_2$ Heisenberg model ($\mat…
We study the modification of low temperature properties of quantum magnets such as magnetization, heat capacity, energy spectrum, and densities of condensed and noncondensed quasiparticles (triplons) due to anisotropies in the framework of mean-field based approach. We show that in contrast to exchange anisotropy (EA) interaction, Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interaction modifies the physics dramatically. Particularly, it changes the sign of the anomalous density in the whole range of temperatures. Its critical behavior is slightly modified also by the EA. We have found that the shift of the crit…
Spin reorientation and magnetisation reversal are two important features of the rare-earth orthorhombic provskites ($RM$O$_{3}$'s) that have attracted a lot of attention, though their exact microscopic origin has eluded researchers. Here, using density functional theory and classical atomistic spin dynamics we build a general Heisenberg magnetic model that allows to explore the whole phase diagram of the chromite and ferrite compounds and to scrutinize the microscopic mechanism responsible for spin reorientations and magnetisation reversals. We show that the occurrence of a magnetization rever…
Pyrochlore oxides show several fascinating phenomena, such as the formation of heavy fermions and the thermal Hall effect. Although a key to understanding some phenomena may be the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interaction, its microscopic origin is unclear. To clarify the microscopic origin, we constructed a $t_{2g}$-orbital model with the kinetic energy, the trigonal-distortion potential, the multiorbital Hubbard interactions, and the $LS$ coupling, and derived the low-energy effective Hamiltonian for a $d^{1}$ Mott insulator with the weak $LS$ coupling. We first show that lack of the inversion …
A single crystal S=3/2 perfect kagome lattice antiferromagnet $\mathrm{KCr_3(OH)_6(SO_4)_2}$ (Cr-jarosite) has been studied by X-band and high-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR). The g-values perpendicular to the kagome plane (c-axis) and in the plane are determined to be $g_c=1.9704 \pm 0.0002$ and $g_ξ=1.9720 \pm 0.0003$, respectively, by high-frequency ESR observed at 265 K. Antiferromagnetic resonances (AFMR) with the antiferromagnetic gap of 120 GHz are observed at 1.9 K, which is below $T_N$=4.5 K. The analysis of AFMR modes by the conventional molecular field theory shows $d_p=0.27…
In frustrated systems, some or many states are competed due to frustration of exchange interactions, and this competition often results in exotic states, such as spin liquid and chiral orders. We consider a pyrochlore oxide, a three-dimensional frustrated system, and study its $S=\frac{1}{2}$ effective model, consisting of the Heisenberg-type and Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya-type superexchange interactions between the nearest-neighbor transition-metal ions. We show that by using new multiorbital effects of the $t_{2g}$ orbitals on coefficients of those interactions, we can change the effective dimensi…
YFeO$_3$ and LaFeO$_3$ are members of the rare-earth orthoferrites family with \textit{Pbnm} space group. Using inelastic neutron scattering, the low-energy spin excitations have been measured around magnetic Brillouin zone center. Splitting of magnon branches and non-zero magnon gap is observed for both compounds, which is similar to the behavior observed in multiferroic BiFeO$_3$. Spin wave calculations which include both Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interactions and single-ion anisotropy in the spin-Hamiltonian comprehensively accounts for all the experimentally observed features. Our results offer…
We have theoretically studied the spin structure factors of Heisenberg model on honeycomb lattice in the presence of longitudinal magnetic field, i.e. magnetic field perpendicular to the honeycomb plane, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. The possible effects of next nearest neighbor exchange constant are investigated in terms of anisotropy in the Heisenberg interactions. This spatial anisotropy is due to the difference between nearest neighbor exchange coupling constant and next nearest neighbor exchange coupling constant. The original spin model hamiltonian is mapped to a bosonic model v…
Quantum phase transition occurs at a quantum critical value of a control parameter such as the magnetic field in the Ising model in a transverse magnetic field (ITF). Recently, it is shown that ramping across the quantum critical point generates non-analytic behaviors in the time evolution of a closed quantum system in the thermodynamic limit at zero temperature. The mentioned phenomenon is called the dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT). Here, we consider the one-dimensional (1D) ITF model with added the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Using the fermionization technique, the Ham…
The quantum spin liquid material herbertsmithite is described by an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the kagome lattice with non-negligible Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction~(DMI). A well established phase transition to the $\mathbf q=0$ long-range order occurs in this model when the DMI strength increases, but the precise nature of a small-DMI phase remains controversial. Here, we describe a new phase obtained from Schwinger-boson mean-field theory that is stable at small DMI, and which can explain the dispersionless spectrum seen in inelastic neutron scattering experiment by Han et al (…
I propose the emergence of the spin-orbital-coupled vector chirality in a non-frustrated Mott insulator with the strong spin-orbit coupling due to $ab$-plane's inversion-symmetry (IS) breaking. I derive the superexchange interactions for a $t_{2g}$-orbital Hubbard model on a square lattice with the strong spin-orbit coupling and the IS-breaking-induced hopping integrals, and explain the microscopic origins of the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) -type and the Kitaev-type interactions. Then, by adopting the mean-field approximation to a minimal model including only the Heisenberg-type and the DM-type …
