In this PhD thesis, we deal with binet matrices, an extension of network matrices. The main result of this thesis is the following. A rational matrix A of size n times m can be tested for being binet in time O(n^6 m). If A is binet, our algorithm outputs a nonsingular matrix B and a matrix N such that [B N] is the node-edge incidence matrix of a bidirected graph (of full row rank) and A=B^{-1} N.
Furthermore, we provide some results about Camion bases. For a matrix M of size n times m', we present a new characterization of Camion bases of M, whenever M is the node-edge incidence matrix of a connected digraph (with one row removed). Then, a general characterization of Camion bases as well as a recognition procedure which runs in O(n^2m') are given. An algorithm which finds a Camion basis is also presented. For totally unimodular matrices, it is proven to run in time O((nm)^2) where m=m'-n.
The last result concerns specific network matrices. We give a characterization of nonnegative {r,s}-noncorelated network matrices, where r and s are two given row indexes. It also results a polynomial recognition algorithm for these matrices.
We define Bush-type generalized Hadamard matrices over abelian groups and construct symmetric Bush-type generalized Hadamard matrices over the additive group of finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, $q$ a prime power. We then show and study an association scheme obtained from such generalized Hadamard matrices.
In a recent survey, Schmidt compiled equivalences between generalized bent functions, group invariant Butson Hadamard matrices, and abelian splitting relative difference sets. We establish a broader network of equivalences by considering Butson matrices that are cocyclic rather than strictly group invariant. This result has several applications; for example, to the construction of Boolean functions whose expansions are generalized partially bent functions, including cases where no bent function can exist.
We give some very interesting matrices which are orthogonal over groups and, as far as we know, referenced, but in fact undocumented. This note is not intended to be published but available for archival reasons.
In this paper, we give upper and lower bounds for the spectral norms of r-circulant matrices with the generalized bi-periodic Fibonacci numbers. Moreover, we investigate the eigenvalues and determinants of these matrices.
In this paper some properties of generalized tribonacci and generalized Padovan sequence are presented. Also the Euclidean norms of circulant, $r$-circulant, semi-circulant and Hankle matrices with above mentioned sequences are calculated. The upper and lower bounds of spectral norms are also obtained.
We present determinantal representations of the Catalan numbers, k-Fuss-Catalan numbers, and its generalized number. The entries of the normalized Hessenberg matrices are the binomial coefficients that related with the enumeration of lattice paths.
In \cite{Ka}, the authors obtained a method for deriving special matrices, whose powers are related to Fibonacci and Lucas numbers. In the study, it has been developed a method for deriving special matrices of $3\times 3$ dimensions, whose powers are related to Horadam and generalized Fibonacci numbers, and some special matrices have been found via the method developed.
Generalized Pascal matrix whose elements are generalized binomial coefficients is included in the group of generalized Riordan arrays. There is a special set of generalized Riordan arrays defined by parameter $q$. If $q=0$, they are ordinary Riordan arrays, if $q=1$, they are exponential Riordan arrays. In other cases, except $q=-1$, they are arrays associated with the $q$-binomial coefficients as well as the exponential Riordan arrays are associated with the ordinary binomial coefficients. Case $q=-1$ does not fit into the concept of generalized Riordan arrays, but it is necessary to expand f…
A matrix is incomplete when some of its entries are missing. A Robinson incomplete symmetric matrix is an incomplete symmetric matrix whose non-missing entries do not decrease along rows and columns when moving toward the diagonal. A Strong-Robinson incomplete symmetric matrix is an incomplete symmetric matrix $A$ such that $a_{k,l} \geq a_{i,j}$ if $a_{i,j}$ and $a_{k,l}$ are two non-missing entries of $A$ and $i\leq k \leq l \leq j$. On the other hand, an incomplete symmetric matrix is Strong-Robinsonian if there is a simultaneous reordering of its rows and columns that produces a Strong-Rob…
Rubei et. al., established results for the distance matrix of positive weighted Petersen graphs. Focusing on the properties of the distance matrix, we generalized positive weighted Petersen graphs results to Kneser graphs. We analyzed theorems established by Rubei et al. and used girth of the generalized Petersen graphs and Kneser graphs to conclude generalizations. Further, we examined the properties of positive weighted generalized Petersen graphs. We generalized the properties of distance matrices of positive weighted Petersen graphs to positive weighted generalized Petersen graphs.
We show how some special production matrices may be used to define families of generalized Eulerian triangles. We furthermore show that these generalized Eulerian triangles are the coefficient arrays of polynomials which are the moments of families of orthogonal polynomials. Using the previously defined $\mathcal{T}$ transform, we associate these generalized Eulerian triangles to triangles defined by Catalan generating functions. Again, these new triangles are the coefficient arrays of polynomial moment sequences. The main tools used are the Sumudu transform, Jacobi continued fractions and Rio…
A generalized tournament matrix $M$ is a nonnegative matrix that satisfies $M+M^{t}=J-I$, where $J$ is the all ones matrix and $I$ is the identity matrix. In this paper, a characterization of generalized tournament matrices with the same principal minors of orders $2$, $3$, and $4$ is given. In particular, it is proven that the principal minors of orders $2$, $3$, and $4$ determine the rest of the principal minors.
Balanced weighing matrices with parameters $$ \left(1+18\cdot\frac{9^{m+1}-1}{8},9^{m+1},4\cdot 9^m\right), $$ for each nonzero integer $m$ is constructed. This is the first infinite class not belonging to those with classical parameters. It is shown that any balanced weighing matrix is equivalent to a five-class association scheme.
We study the set covering polyhedron related to circulant matrices. In particular, our goal is to characterize the first Chvátal closure of the usual fractional relaxation. We present a family of valid inequalities that generalizes the family of minor inequalities previously reported in the literature and includes new facet-defining inequalities. Furthermore, we propose a polynomial time separation algorithm for a particular subfamily of these inequalities.
Kasteleyn counted the number of domino tilings of a rectangle by considering a mutation of the adjacency matrix: a Kasteleyn matrix K. In this paper we present a generalization of Kasteleyn matrices and a combinatorial interpretation for the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of KK^\ast (which we call the singular polynomial), where K is a generalized Kasteleyn matrix for a planar bipartite graph. We also present a q-version of these ideas and a few results concerning tilings of special regions such as rectangles.
We study two matrices $N$ and $M$ defined by the parameters of equivalent $S$- and $J$-continued fraction expansions, and compare them by examining the product $N^{-1}M$. Using examples based on the Catalan numbers, the little Schröder numbers and powers of $q$, we indicate that this matrix product is an object worthy of study. In the case of the little Schröder numbers, we find that the matrix $N$ has an interleaved structure based on two Riordan arrays.
All generalized Hadamard matrices of order 18 over a group of order 3, H(6,3), are enumerated in two different ways: once, as class regular symmetric (6,3)-nets, or symmetric transversal designs on 54 points and 54 blocks with a group of order 3 acting semi-regularly on points and blocks, and secondly, as collections of full weight vectors in quaternary Hermitian self-dual codes of length 18. The second enumeration is based on the classification of Hermitian self-dual [18,9] codes over GF(4), completed in this paper. It is shown that up to monomial equivalence, there are 85 generalized Hadamar…
A matrix $H=[d_{ij}]$ is a generalized Hadamard matrix of order $uλ$ with entries from $U$ which is a finite group of order $u$ (for short $\mathrm{GH}(u,\,λ)$) such that whenever $i\neq \ell$ the set $\{d_{ij}d_{\ell j}^{-1}\,|\, 1\leq j\leq uλ\}$ contains each element of $U$ exactly $λ$ times. In this paper, we construct $\mathrm{GH}(q,\,q)$'s and $\mathrm{GH}(q,\,q^{2})$'s over additive groups of finite fields $\mathrm{GF}(q)$'s by using some sorts of functions.
In recent times, the construction of deterministic matrices has gained popularity as an alternative of random matrices as they provide guarantees for recovery of sparse signals. In particular, the construction of binary matrices has attained significance due to their potential for hardware-friendly implementation and appealing applications. Our present work aims at constructing incoherent binary matrices consisting of orthogonal blocks with small block coherence. We show that the binary matrices constructed from Euler squares exhibit block orthogonality and possess low block coherence. With a …
In this paper, we give two new coding algorithms by means of right circulant matrices with elements generalized Fibonacci and Lucas polynomials. For this purpose, we study basic properties of right circulant matrices using generalized Fibonacci polynomials $F_{p,q,n}\left( x\right) $, generalized Lucas polynomials $L_{p,q,n}\left( x\right) $ and geometric sequences.
We study generalized eigenvalue problems for meet and join matrices with respect to incidence functions on semilattices. We provide new bounds for generalized eigenvalues of meet matrices with respect to join matrices under very general assumptions. The applied methodology is flexible, and it is shown in the case of GCD and LCM matrices that even sharper bounds can be obtained by applying the known properties of the divisor lattice. These results can also be easily modified for the dual problem of eigenvalues of join matrices with respect to meet matrices, which we briefly consider as well. We…
Under binary matrices we mean matrices whose entries take one of two values. In this paper, explicit formulae for calculating the determinant of some type of binary Toeplitz matrices are obtained. Examples of the application of the determinant of binary Toeplitz matrices for the enumeration of even and odd permutations of different types are given.
We propose a quantum walk defined by digraphs (mixed graphs). This is like Grover walk that is perturbed by a certain complex-valued function defined by digraphs. The discriminant of this quantum walk is a matrix that is a certain normalization of generalized Hermitian adjacency matrices. Furthermore, we give definitions of the positive and negative supports of the transfer matrix, and clarify explicit formulas of their supports of the square. In addition, we give tables by computer on the identification of digraphs by their eigenvalues.
We present a new efficient combinatorial algorithm for recognizing if a given symmetric matrix is Robinsonian, i.e., if its rows and columns can be simultaneously reordered so that entries are monotone nondecreasing in rows and columns when moving toward the diagonal. As main ingredient we introduce a new algorithm, named Similarity-First-Search (SFS), which extends Lexicographic Breadth-First Search (Lex-BFS) to weighted graphs and which we use in a multisweep algorithm to recognize Robinsonian matrices. Since Robinsonian binary matrices correspond to unit interval graphs, our algorithm can b…
As is well-known, cluster transformations in cluster structures of geometric type are often modeled on determinant identities, such as short Plucker relations, Desnanot--Jacobi identities and their generalizations. We present a construction that plays a similar role in a description of generalized cluster transformations and discuss its applications to generalized cluster structures in GL_n compatible with a certain subclass of Belavin--Drinfeld Poisson--Lie brackets, in the Drinfeld double of GL_n, and in spaces of periodic difference operators.
In this paper, we study algorithmic questions concerning products of matrices and their consequences for recognition algorithms for polyhedra. The 1-product of matrices $S_1$, $S_2$ is a matrix whose columns are the concatenation of each column of $S_1$ with each column of $S_2$. The $k$-product generalizes the $1$-product, by taking as input two matrices $S_1, S_2$ together with $k-1$ special rows of each of those matrices, and outputting a certain composition of $S_1,S_2$. Our study is motivated by a close link between the 1-product of matrices and the Cartesian product of polytopes, and mor…
The space of mxp totally nonnegative real matrices has a stratification into totally nonnegative cells. The largest such cell is the space of totally positive matrices. There is a well-known criterion due to Gasca and Peña for testing a real matrix for total positivity. This criterion involves testing mp minors. In contrast, there is no known small set of minors for testing for total nonnegativity. In this paper, we show that for each of the totally nonnegative cells there is a test for membership which only involves mp minors, thus extending the Gasca and Peña result to all totally nonnegativ…
We determine the critical groups of the generalized de Bruijn graphs DB$(n,d)$ and generalized Kautz graphs Kautz$(n,d)$, thus extending and completing earlier results for the classical de Bruijn and Kautz graphs. Moreover, for a prime $p$ the critical groups of DB$(n,p)$ are shown to be in close correspondence with groups of $n\times n$ circulant matrices over $\mathbb{F}_p$, which explains numerical data in [OEIS:A027362], and suggests the possibility to construct normal bases in $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$ from spanning trees in DB$(n,p)$.
In this article, we have proposed a public key cryptography using Affine-Hill cipher with a generalized Fibonacci matrix(called multinacci matrix). Also proposed a key establishment(exchange of key matrix $K=Q_λ^{k}$ of order $λ\timesλ$ for encryption-decryption) scheme with the help of multinacci sequences under prime modulo. In this scheme, instead of exchanging key matrix, we need to exchange the only pair of numbers $(λ, k)$, which reduces the time complexity as well as space complexity and comes with a large key-space.
We use the combinatorics of toric networks and the double affine geometric $R$-matrix to define a three-parameter family of generalizations of the discrete Toda lattice. We construct the integrals of motion and a spectral map for this system. The family of commuting time evolutions arising from the action of the $R$-matrix is explicitly linearized on the Jacobian of the spectral curve. The solution to the initial value problem is constructed using Riemann theta functions.
In this paper we extend the study of three state lively quantum walks on cycles by considering the coin operator as a linear sum of permutation matrices, which is a generalization of the Grover matrix. First we provide a complete characterization of orthogonal matrices of order $3\times 3$ which are linear sum of permutation matrices. Consequently, we determine several groups of complex, real and rational orthogonal matrices. We establish that an orthogonal matrix of order $3\times 3$ is a linear sum of permutation matrices if and only if it is permutative. Finally we determine period of livel…
