An experiment is proposed to observe the dynamical Casimir effect by means of two tandem, high Q, superconducting microwave cavities, which are separated from each other by only a very thin wall consisting of a flexible superconducting membrane that can be driven into motion by means of resonant "pump" microwaves injected into the left cavity. Degenerate "signal" and "idler" microwave signals can then be generated by the exponential amplification of vacuum fluctuations in the initially empty right cavity, above a certain threshold. Cooling of a 58 MHz micro-mechanical resonator from room temperature to 11 K is demonstrated using cavity enhanced radiation pressure. Detuned pumping of an optical resonance allows enhancement of the blue shifted motional sideband (caused by the oscillator's Brownian motion) with respect to the red-shifted sideband leading to cooling of the mechanical oscillator mode. The reported cooling mechanism is a manifestation of the effect of radiation pressure induced dynamical backaction. These results constitute an important step towards achieving ground state cooling of a mechanical oscillator.
We report the soliton frequency comb generation in microring optical parametric oscillators operating in the down-conversion regime and with the simultaneous presence of the $χ^{(2)}$ and Kerr nonlinearities. I present a theoretical treatment of parametric scattering in strong coupling semiconductor microcavities to model experiments in which parametric oscillator behaviour has been observed. The model consists of a non-linear excitonic oscillator coupled to a cavity mode which is driven by the external fields, and predicts the output power, below threshold gain and spectral blue shifts of the parametric oscillator. The predictions are found to be in excellent agreement with the experimental data.

Here we demonstrate an alternative approach using a chi-2 sheet cavity, where the dispersion requirement is relaxed by cavity phase matching. 21.2 THz broadband comb generation is achieved with uniform line spacing of 133.0 GHz, despite a relatively large dispersion of 275.4 fs^2/mm around 1064nm. We report a broadband microwave frequency converter based on a coherent Kerr optical micro-comb generated by an integrated micro-ring resonator. The coherent micro-comb displays features that are consistent with soliton crystal dynamics with an FSR of 48.9GHz. We use this to demonstrate a high-performance millimeter-wave local oscillator at 48.9GHz in the Q-band for microwave frequency conversion. We propose a flexible scheme based on three coupled optical microcavities which permits to achieve stable oscillations in the microwave range, the frequency of which depends only on the cavity coupling rates. We find the different dynamical regimes (soft and hard excitation) to affect the oscillation intensity but not their period. This configuration may permit to implement compact hyper-parametric sources on an integrated optical circuit, with interesting applications in communications, sensing and metrology.

We studied numerically the generation of the two-color flat-top solitonic pulses, platicons, in the microresonator based doubly resonant optical parametric oscillator. We revealed that if the signs of the group velocity dispersion (GVD) coefficients at interacting harmonics are opposite, platicon excitation is possible via pump amplitude modulation or controllable mode interaction approach.
