The effect of disorder on a class of transition metal oxides described by a single orbital Hubbard model at half filling is investigated. The phases are characterized by the nature of the electronic and spin excitations. The frequency and temperature-dependent conductivity and spin susceptibility as functions of disorder are calculated. The interplay of disorder and electron-electron interaction produces unusual behavior in this system. For example, the dc conductivity, which is vanishingly small at low disorder in the Mott phase and at high disorder in the localized phase, gets surprisingly enhanced at intermediate disorder in a "metallic" phase. Moreover, the spin susceptibility in this "metallic" phase is not the expected Pauli-behavior but Curie-$1/T$ due to the presence of local moments.
The magnetic susceptibility and the low-temperature specific heat of the 1-dimensional Hubbard model under the integrable open-boundary conditions are discussed through the Bethe ansatz with the string hypothesis. The contributions of the boundary fields to both the susceptibility and the specific heat are obtained, and their exact expressions are analytically derived.
Local spin fluctuations provide the glue for orbital-singlet spin-triplet pairing in the doped Mott insulating regime of multi-orbital Hubbard models. At large Hubbard repulsion $U$, the pairing susceptibility is nevertheless very low, because the pairing interaction cannot overcome the suppression of charge fluctuations. Using nonequilibrium dynamical mean field simulations of the two-orbital Hubbard model, we show that out of equilibrium the pairing susceptibility in this large-$U$ regime can be strongly enhanced by creating a photo-induced population of the relevant charge states, and that …
We compute the dynamical charge susceptibility in the two-dimensional Hubbard model within the dynamical cluster approximation. In order to understand the connection between charge susceptibility and pseudogap, we investigate the momentum, doping, and temperature dependence. We find that as a function of frequency, the dynamical charge susceptibility is well represented by a single peak at a characteristic frequency. It shows little momentum or temperature dependence, while the doping dependence is more evident, and no clear signature of the pseudogap is observed. Data for the doping evolution…
We analyze the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz equations of the one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model in the "spin-disordered regime", which is characterized by the temperature being much larger than the magnetic energy scale but small compared to the Mott-Hubbard gap. In this regime the thermodynamics of the Hubbard model can be thought of in terms of gapped charged excitations with an effective dispersion and spin degrees of freedom that only contribute entropically. In particular, the internal energy and the effective dispersion become essentially independent of temperature. An interpretatio…
We present numerical results within the one-dimensional disordered Hubbard model for several characteristic indicators of the many-body localization (MBL). Considering traditionally studied charge disorder (i.e., the same disorder strength for both spin orientations) we find that even at strong disorder all signatures consistently show that while charge degree of freedom is non-ergodic, the spin is delocalized and ergodic. This indicates the absence of the full MBL in the model that has been simulated in recent cold-atom experiments. Full localization can be restored if spin-dependent disorder…
We investigate the behavior of the quasi-particle energy gap near quantum phase transitions in a two-dimensional disordered boson Hubbard model at a commensurate filling. Via Monte Carlo simulations of ensembles with fixed numbers of particles, we observe the behavior of the gap as a function of the tuning parameter for various strength of diagonal disorder. For weak disorder, we find that gapped Mott insulating phase is sustained up to the transition point and disappears only in a superfluid, strongly supporting a direct Mott-insulator-to-superfluid transition. Bose glass behavior, insulating…
We treat the two-particle Green's function in the Hubbard model using the recently developed tau-CPA, a hybrid treatment that applies the coherent-potential approximation (CPA) up to a time tau related to the inverse of the band width, after which the system is averaged using the virtual-crystal approximation (VCA). This model, with suitable approximations, does predict magnetism for a modified Stoner criterion. The evaluation of the two-particle propagator in the tau-CPA requires the solution of the pure CPA, within whose formalism the vertex correction and the weighted Green's functions are …
The magnetic susceptibility of the two-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor hopping is investigated using the diagram technique developed for the case of strong correlations. In this technique a power series in the hopping constant is used. At half-filling the calculated zero-frequency susceptibility and the square of the site spin reproduce adequately results of Monte Carlo simulations. Also in agreement with numerical simulations no evidence of ferromagnetic correlations was found in the considered range of electron concentrations $0.8\alt\bar{n}\alt 1.2$ for the repulsi…
We report the results of dc and ac magnetization measurements as a function of temperature (1.8 - 300 K) for the spin chain compound, Ca$_3$CoRhO$_6$, which has been recently reported to exhibit a partially disordered antiferromagnetic (PDAF) structure in the range 30 - 90 K and spin-glass freezing below 30 K. We observe an unexpectedly large frequency dependence of ac susceptibility in the T range 30 - 90 K, typical of superparamagnets. In addition, we find that there is no difference in the isothermal remanent magnetization behavior for the two regimes below 90 K. These findings call for mor…
We investigated the fidelity susceptibility in the one-dimension (1D) Hubbard model and the extended Hubbard model at half-filling via the density matrix renormalization group. From the numerical results, we argue that in the 1D Hubbard model, the fidelity susceptibility shows a divergence at two points which is infinitesimally close to the critical point while it is always extensive exactly at the critical point. For the extended Hubbard model, we found that for a properly chosen driving parameter, the fidelity susceptibility is able to reveal the quantum phase transitions between the PS (pha…
In this paper, we present details of the dual fermion (DF) method to study the non-local correction to single site DMFT. The DMFT two-particle Green's function is calculated using continuous time quantum monte carlo (CT-QMC) method. The momentum dependence of the vertex function is analyzed and its renormalization based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation is performed in particle-hole channel. We found a magnetic instability in both the dual and the lattice fermions. The lattice fermion susceptibility is calculated at finite temperature in this method and also in another recently proposed method, n…
We compute dynamic spin susceptibilities in the two-dimensional Hubbard model using the method of Dual Fermions and provide comparison to lattice Monte Carlo and cluster dynamical mean field theory. We examine the energy dispersion identified by peaks in ${\rm Im}χ(ω,q)$ which define spin modes and compare the exchange scale and magnon dispersion to neutron experiments on the parent La$_2$CuO$_4$ cuprate. We present the evolution of the spin excitations as a function of Hubbard interaction strengths and doping and explore the particle-hole asymmetry of the spin excitations. We also study the c…
In this paper we investigate possible spin disordered phase in the Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice. Using a slave-particle theory that include the charge fluctuations, we find a meanfield spin disordered phase in a range of on-site repulsion $U$. The spin disordered state is described by gapped fermions coupled to compact U(1) gauge field. We study the confinement/deconfinement problem of the U(1) gauge theory due to the instantons proliferation. We calculate all allowed instanton terms and compute their quantum numbers. It is shown that the meanfield spin disordered phase is unstable. …
In this Letter we present a calculation of the one-particle irreducible density matrix $ρ(x)$ for the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model in the infinite $U$ limit. We consider the zero temperature spin disordered regime, which is obtained by first taking the limit $U\to \infty$ and then the limit $T\to 0.$ Using the determinant representation for $ρ(x)$ we derive analytical expressions for both large and small $x$ at an arbitrary filling factor $0<\varrho<1/2.$ The large $x$ asymptotics of $ρ(x)$ is found to be remarkably accurate starting from $x\sin(2π\varrho)\sim 1.$ We find that the one-pa…
We study the Anderson-Hubbard model in the Hartree-Fock approximation and the exact diagonalization under the coexistence of short-range interaction and diagonal disorder. We show that there exist unconventional soft gaps, where the single-particle (SP) density of states (DOS) $A$ follows a scaling in energy $E$ as $A(E)\propto \exp[-(-γ\log |E-E_F|)^d]$ irrespective of electron filling and long-range order. Here, $d$ is the spatial dimension, $E_F$ the Fermi energy and $γ$ a non-universal constant. We propose a multi-valley energy landscape as their origin. Possible experiments to verify the …
We investigate the Kondo effect in two-dimensional disordered electron systems using a finite-temperature quantum Monte Carlo method. Depending on the position of a magnetic impurity, the local moment is screened or unscreened by the spin of the conduction electron. The results suggest that the Kondo temperature takes different values depending on the position of a magnetic impurity. We show that the distribution of the Kondo temperature becomes wide and the weight at $T_K=0$ becomes large as randomness increases. The average susceptibility shows a weak power-law divergence at low temperature …
Based on the non-skeleton diagrammatic expansion satisfying the compressibility and spin-susceptibility sum rules, we investigate static charge and spin responses in a two-dimensional extended Hubbard model with the nearest-neighbor Coulomb repulsion in the vicinity of its charge-ordering transition point. In this expansion, we can calculate approximate charge and spin response functions by systematic inclusion of vertex corrections, from which we obtain the uniform susceptibility equal to the so-called q-limit of the response function and the second-order transition point as a divergent point…
We investigate the effects of static, diagonal disorder in the $d=\infty$ Hubbard model by treating the dynamical effects of local Hubbard correlations and disorder on an equal footing. This is achieved by a proper combination of the iterated perturbation theory and the coherent potential approximation. Within the paramagnetic phase, we find that the renormalized Fermi liquid metal phase of the pure Hubbard model is stable against disorder for small disorder strengths. With increasing disorder, strong resonant scattering effects destroy low-energy Fermi liquid coherence, leading to an {\it inc…
Using the determinant quantum Monte Carlo method, we investigate the metal-insulator transition in the interacting disordered Hubbard model of a Lieb lattice, in which the system characterizes the flat band centered at the Fermi level. By choosing suitable electron densities, we ensure the weak interaction sign problem to improve the reliability of our results. It is found that disorder and on-site Coulomb repulsive interaction produce interesting effects that induce the metal-insulator transition which is impossible in the half-filled case. The density of states at the Fermi energy is still f…
We study the effect of disorder and doping on the metal-insulator transition in a repulsive Hubbard model on a square lattice using the determinant quantum Monte Carlo method. First, with the aim of making our results reliable, we compute the sign problem with various parameters such as temperature, disorder, on-site interactions, and lattice size. We show that in the presence of randomness in the hopping elements, the metal-insulator transition occurs and the critical disorder strength differs at different fillings. We also demonstrate that doping is a driving force behind the metal-insulator…
The two-layer Hubbard model is studied by using the composite operator method. Magnetic properties of the model in the normal state are analyzed by studying the uniform static spin magnetic susceptibility as a function of doping and temperature. The relevance of the model to describe the physical behavior of two-layered cuprate high-$T_{c}$ superconductors is discussed.
The charge susceptibility of the two-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model is investigated using the diagram technique developed for the case of strong correlations. In this technique, a power series in the hopping constant is used. It is shown that once the Fermi level crosses one of the Hubbard subbands a sharp peak appears in the momentum dependence of the static susceptibility. With further departure from half-filling the peak transforms to a ridge around the $Γ$ point. In the considered range $0\leq|1-\bar{n}|\alt 0.2$ of the electron filling $\bar{n}$ the static susceptibility is finite wh…
While many-body localization has primarily been studied in systems with a single local degree of freedom, experimental studies of many-body localization in cold atom systems motivate exploration of the disordered Hubbard model. With two coupled local degrees of freedom it is natural to ask how localization in spin relates to disorder in charge and vice versa. Most prior work has addressed disorder in only one of these sectors and often has not used measures of localization which distinguish between charge and spin. Here we explore localization in the Hubbard model with a wide range of independ…
A detailed study of the paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition in the one-band Hubbard model in the presence of binary alloy disorder is presented. The influence of the disorder (with concentration $x$ and $1-x$ of the two alloy ions) on the Curie temperature $T_{c}$ is found to depend strongly on electron density $n$. While at high densities, $n>x$, the disorder always reduces $T_c$, at low densities, $n<x$, the disorder can even \emph{enhance} $T_c$ if the interaction is strong enough. At the particular density $n=x$ (i. e. not necessarily at half filling) the interplay between disor…
A generalized version of the fidelity susceptibility of single-band and multi-orbital Hubbard models is systematically studied using single-site dynamical mean-field theory in combination with a hybridization expansion continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo impurity solver. We find that the fidelity susceptibility is extremely sensitive to changes in the state of the system. It can be used as a numerically inexpensive tool to detect and characterize a broad range of phase transitions and crossovers in Hubbard models, including (orbital-selective) Mott metal-insulator transitions, high-spin to low…
We study the collective excitation spectrum of a d=3 site-disordered Anderson-Hubbard model at half-filling, via a random-phase approximation (RPA) about broken-symmetry, inhomogeneous unrestricted Hartree-Fock (UHF) ground states. We focus in particular on the density and character of low-frequency collective excitations in the transverse spin channel. In the absence of disorder, these are found to be spin-wave-like for all but very weak interaction strengths, extending down to zero frequency and separated from a Stoner-like band, to which there is a gap. With disorder present, a prominent sp…
We study the ground state of the two-dimensional (2D) disordered Hubbard model by means of the projector quantum Monte Carlo (PQMC) method. This approach allows us to investigate the ground state properties of this model for lattice sizes up to $10 \times 10$, at quarter filling, for a broad range of interaction and disorder strengths. Our results show that the ground state of this system of spin-1/2 fermions remains localised in the presence of the short-ranged Hubbard interaction.
The phase diagram of correlated, disordered electrons is calculated within dynamical mean--field theory using the geometrically averaged (''typical'') local density of states. Correlated metal, Mott insulator and Anderson insulator phases, as well as coexistence and crossover regimes are identified. The Mott and Anderson insulators are found to be continuously connected.
We investigate ground state properties of the half-filled staggered-flux Hubbard model on a square lattice. Energy gaps to charge and spin excitations and magnetic as well as dimer orders are calculated as a function of interaction strength $U/t$ by means of constrained-path quantum Monte Carlo method. It is found that the system is a semi-metal at $U/t\lesssim 5.6$ and a Mott insulator with long-range antiferromagnetic order at $U/t \gtrsim 6.6$. In the range $5.6\lesssim U/t\lesssim 6.6$, the ground state is an correlated insulator where both magnetic and dimer orders are absent. Furthermore…
We develop a procedure which systematically generates all conserved operators in the disordered models of interacting fermions. Among these operators, we identify and count the independent and local integrals of motion (LIOM) which represent the hallmark of the many-body localization (MBL). The method is tested first on the prototype disordered chain of interacting spinless fermions. As expected for full MBL, we find for large enough disorder $N_M=2^M-1$ independent and quasi-local LIOM with support on $M$ consecutive sites. On the other hand, the study of the disordered Hubbard chain reveals …
In the quest for quantum spin liquids in three spatial dimensions (3D), we study the half-filled Hubbard model on the simple cubic lattice with hopping processes up to third neighbors. Employing the variational cluster approach (VCA), we determine the zero-temperature phase diagram: In addition to a paramagnetic metal at small interaction strength $U$ and various antiferromagnetic insulators at large $U$, we find an intermediate-$U$ antiferromagnetic metal. Most interestingly, we also identify a non-magnetic insulating region, extending from intermediate to strong $U$. Using VCA results in the…
A dynamic cluster quantum Monte Carlo algorithm is used to study a spin susceptibility representation of the pairing interaction for the two-dimensional Hubbard model with an on-site Coulomb interaction equal to the bandwidth for various doping levels. We find that the pairing interaction is well approximated by ${3/2}\Ub(T)^2χ(K-K')$ with an effective temperature and doping dependent coupling $\Ub(T)$ and the numerically calculated spin susceptibility $χ(K-K')$. We show that at low temperatures, $\Ub$ may be accurately determined from a corresponding spin susceptibility based calculation of t…
We examine the validity of the weak coupling spin-susceptibility "glue" approximation (SSGA) in a two-dimensional Hubbard model for cuprates. For comparison, we employ the well-established dynamical cluster approximation (DCA) with a quantum Monte Carlo algorithm as a cluster solver. We compare the leading eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions of the DCA and SSGA pairing matrices. For realistic model parameters, we find that the SSGA fails to capture the leading pairing symmetries seen in the DCA. Furthermore, when the SSGA is improved through the addition of a term with d-wave symmetry…
We study the difference between on site Hubbard and long range Coulomb repulsions for two interacting particles in a disordered chain. While Hubbard repulsion can only yield weak critical chaos with intermediate spectral statistics, Coulomb repulsion can drive the two particle system to quantum chaos with Wigner-Dyson spectral statistics. For intermediate strengths U of the two repulsions in one dimension, there is a crossover regime where delocalization and spectral rigidity are maximum, whereas the limits of weak and strong U are characterized by a stronger localization and uncorrelated ener…
We derive and study the effective spin model that explains the anomalous spin dynamics in the one-dimensional Hubbard model with strong potential disorder. Assuming that charges are localized, we show that spins are delocalized and their subdiffusive transport originates from a singular random distribution of spin exchange interactions. The exponent relevant for the subdiffusion is determined by the Anderson localization length and the density of electrons. While the analytical derivations are valid for low particle density, numerical results for the full model reveal a qualitative agreement u…
We show that the effect of disorder on a Mott-Hubbard insulator of interacting electrons produces a quantum phase transition from an antiferromagnetic to a paramagnetic phase governed by a percolation of the singly occupied weakly disordered sites. Near the transition, we propose that a new type of defect, formed by the resonant exchange between a spin singlet and a doubly occupied site with an attractive disorder potential, plays an important role. These resonant pair exchange defects reduce the staggered magnetization but enhance the coupling of the two spins and produce characteristic signa…
We study the interplay between electron correlation and disorder in the two-dimensional Hubbard model at half-filling by means of a variational wave function that can interpolate between Anderson and Mott insulators. We give a detailed description of our improved variational state and explain how the physics of the Anderson-Mott transition can be inferred from equal-time correlations functions, which can be easily computed within the variational Monte Carlo scheme. The ground-state phase diagram is worked out in both the paramagnetic and the magnetic sector. Whereas in the former a direct seco…
The magnetic susceptibility of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with open boundary conditions at arbitrary filling is obtained from field theory at low temperatures and small magnetic fields, including leading and next-leading orders. Logarithmic contributions to the bulk part are identified as well as algebraic-logarithmic divergences in the boundary contribution. As a manifestation of spin-charge separation, the result for the boundary part at low energies turns out to be independent of filling and interaction strength and identical to the result for the Heisenberg model. For the bulk part …
We study the insulator-to-superfluid transition in a two-dimensional disordered boson Hubbard model at zero temperature for intermediate strength of disorder at commensurate density. Via Monte Carlo calculations of the correlation functions in the integer current representation of the model, we obtain the dynamical critical exponent $z=1.5 \pm 0.1$, supporting the multi-critical behavior separating the strong and weak disorder regimes. Investigating the density profile, we suggest that the density fluctuations due to the particle-hole excitations drive the transition in the weak disorder regim…
We investigate the interaction-induced superfluid-to-Mott insulator transition in the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model (BHM) for fillings $n=1$, $n=2$, and $n=3$ by studying the single-particle gap, the fidelity susceptibility, and the amplitude of Bloch oscillations via density-matrix renormalization-group methods. We apply a generic scaling procedure for the gap, which allows us to determine the critical points with very high accuracy. We also study how the fidelity susceptibility behaves across the phase transition. Furthermore, we show that in the BHM, and in a system of spinless fermion…
We study the two-dimensional paramagnetic Anderson-Hubbard model using an extension of dynamical mean-field theory that allows us to treat disorder and strong electronic correlations on equal footing. We investigate the scaling of the inverse participation ratio at quarter- and half-filling and find a nonmonotonic dependence of the localization length on the interaction strength. We do not find evidence for an insulator-metal transition. The disorder potential becomes unscreened near the Mott transition. Furthermore, strong correlations suppress the Altshuler-Aronov density of states anomaly n…
We use the density matrix renormalization group to study the quantum transitions that occur in the half-filled one-dimensional fermionic Hubbard model with onsite potential disorder. We find a transition from the gapped Mott phase with algebraic spin correlations to a gapless spin-disordered phase beyond a critical strength of the disorder $Δ_c \approx U/2$. Both the transitions in the charge and spin sectors are shown to be coincident. We also establish the finite-size corrections to the charge gap and the spin-spin correlation length in the presence of disorder and using a finite-size-scalin…
The thermodynamic properties: specific heat, entropy, spin susceptibility $χ_s$ and charge susceptibility $χ_c$ are studied as a function of temperature and doping within the two-dimensional Hubbard model with various $U/t=4 - 12$. Quantities are calculated using the finite-temperature Lanczos method with additional phase-averaging for a system of $4\times 4$ sites. Results show that the entropy at low $T$ reaches a maximum near half-filling at the electron density $n \sim 1\pm 0.15$ in the whole regime of studied $U/t$. The pseudogap in $χ_s(T)$ becomes clearly pronounced for $U/t \geq 8$ whi…
We investigate effects of doped holes' hopping on Neel order in the two-dimensional Hubbard model. Semiclassical staggered moments are computed by solving saddle point equations derived from a path-integral formalism. Effects of quantum fluctuations are taken into account by the Schwinger boson mean field theory. We argue that hopping of doped holes is ineffective in suppressing Neel order compared to rapid supprestion of Neel order in high-temperature superconductors. After destruction of Neel order, the quantum disordered phase sets in. Taking the strong coupling limit in the quantum disorde…
We study the ground state phase diagram of the Anderson-Hubbard model with correlated hopping at half filling in one-dimension. The Hamiltonian has a local Coulomb repulsion $U$ and a disorder potential with local energies randomly distributed in the interval $(-W,+W)$ with equal probability, acting on the singly occupied sites. The hopping process which modifies the number of doubly occupied sites is forbidden. The hopping between nearest-neighbor singly occupied and empty sites or between singly occupied and doubly occupied sites have the same amplitude $t$. We identify three different phase…
We study the temperature-dependent conductivity $σ(T)$ and spin susceptibility $χ(T)$ of the two-dimensional disordered Hubbard model. Calculations of the current-current correlation function using the Determinant Quantum Monte Carlo method show that repulsion between electrons can significantly enhance the conductivity, and at low temperatures change the sign of $dσ/dT$ from positive (insulating behavior) to negative (conducting behavior). This result suggests the possibility of a metallic phase, and consequently a metal-insulator transition,in a two-dimensional microscopic model containing b…
We perform a matrix product state based density matrix renormalisation group analysis of the phases for the disordered one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model. For particle densities N/L = 1, 1/2 and 2 we show that it is possible to obtain a full phase diagram using only the entanglement properties, which come "for free" when performing an update. We confirm the presence of Mott insulating, superfluid and Bose glass phases when N/L = 1 and 1/2 (without the Mott insulator) as found in previous studies. For the N/L = 2 system we find a double lobed superfluid phase with possible reentrance.
We study the extended Hubbard model with both on-site (U) and nearest neighbor (V) Coulomb repulsion using the exact diagonalization method within the dynamical mean field theory. For a fixed U (U=2.0), the T-n phase-diagrams are obtained for V=1.4 and V=1.2, at which the ground states of n=1/2 system is charge-ordered and charge-disordered, respectively. In both cases, robust charge order is found at finite temperature and in an extended filling regime around n=1/2. The order parameter changes non-monotonously with temperature. For V=1.4, phase separation between charge-ordered and charge-dis…
A prime characterization of many-body localized (MBL) systems is the entanglement of their eigenstates; in contrast to the typical ergodic phase whose eigenstates are volume law, MBL eigenstates obey an area law. In this work, we show that a spin-disordered Hubbard model has both a large number of area-law eigenstates as well as a large number of eigenstates whose entanglement scales logarithmically with system size (log-law). This model, then, is a microscopic Hamiltonian which is neither ergodic nor many-body localized. We establish these results through a combination of analytic arguments b…
We study spin transport in a Hubbard chain with strong, random, on--site potential and with spin--dependent hopping integrals, $t_σ$. For the the SU(2) symmetric case, $t_{\uparrow} =t_{\downarrow}$, such model exhibits only partial many-body localization with localized charge and (delocalized) subdiffusive spin excitations. Here, we demonstrate that breaking the SU(2) symmetry by even weak spin--asymmetry, $t_{\uparrow} \ne t_{\downarrow}$, localizes spins and restores full many-body localization. To this end we derive an effective spin model, where the spin subdiffusion is shown to be destro…
We briefly review the generalized dynamical mean-field theory DMFT+Sigma treatment of both repulsive and attractive disordered Hubbard models. We examine the general problem of metal-insulator transition and the phase diagram in repulsive case, as well as BCS-BEC crossover region of attractive model, demonstrating certain universality of single - electron properties under disordering in both models. We also discuss and compare the results for the density of states and dynamic conductivity in both repulsive and attractive case and the generalized Anderson theorem behavior for superconducting cr…
Using the Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA) we calculate the alternating circulating-current susceptibility and investigate the transition to the d-density wave (DDW) order in the two-dimensional Hubbard model. The 2 x 2 cluster used in the DCA calculation is the smallest that can capture d-wave order; therefore, due to the mean-field character of our calculation, we expect to overestimate d-wave transition temperatures. Despite this, we found no transition to the DDW state. In the pseudogap region the DDW susceptibility is enhanced, as predicted by the slave boson SU(2) theory, but it sti…
We review recent progress in our theoretical understanding of strongly correlated fermion systems in the presence of disorder. Results were obtained by the application of a powerful nonperturbative approach, the Dynamical Mean-Field Theory (DMFT), to interacting disordered lattice fermions. In particular, we demonstrate that DMFT combined with geometric averaging over disorder can capture Anderson localization and Mott insulating phases on the level of one-particle correlation functions. Results are presented for the ground-state phase diagram of the Anderson-Hubbard model at half filling, bot…
We investigate the superfluid-insulator transition in the disordered two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model through quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The Bose-Hubbard model is studied in the presence of site disorder and the quantum critical point between the Bose-glass and superfluid is determined in both the grand canonical ($μ/U=0.375$ close to $ρ=1$) and canonical ensemble ($ρ=1$ and 0.5). Particular attention is paid to disorder averaging and it is shown that an extremely large number of disorder realizations are needed in order to obtain reliable results. Typically we average over more than $…
The Hubbard model is studied in which disorder is introduced by putting the on-site interaction to zero on a fraction f of (impurity) sites of a square lattice. Using Quantum Monte Carlo methods and Dynamical Mean Field theory we find that antiferromagnetic long-range order is initially enhanced at half-filling and stabilized off half-filling by the disorder. The Mott-Hubbard charge gap of the pure system is broken up into two pieces by the disorder: one incompressible state remains at average density n=1 and another can be seen slightly below n=1+f. Qualitative explanations are provided.
We study by the strong disorder renormalization group (RG) method the low-energy properties of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with random-hopping matrix-elements $t_{min}<t<t_{max}$, and with random on-site Coulomb repulsion terms $0 \le U_{min}<U<U_{max}$. There are two critical phases, corresponding to an infinite randomness spin random singlet for strong interactions ($U_{min} > t_{max}$) and to an orbital infinite randomness fixed point for vanishing interactions ($U_{max}/t_{max} \to 0$). To each critical infinite randomness fixed point is connected a Griffiths phase, the correlation l…
