The recent observation at CDF and D0 of $Σ_b$, $Σ^*_b$ and $Ξ_b$ baryons opens the door to the advent of new states in the bottom baryon sector. The states measured provide sufficient constraints to fix the parameters of phenomenological models. One may therefore consistently predict the full bottom baryon spectra. For this purpose we have solved exactly the three-quark problem by means of the Faddeev method in momentum space. We consider our guidance may help experimentalists in the search for new bottom baryons and their findings will help in constraining further the phenomenological models. We identify particular states whose masses may allow to discriminate between the dynamics for the light-quark pairs predicted by different phenomenological models. Within the same framework we also present results for charmed, doubly charmed, and doubly bottom baryons. Our results provide a restricted possible assignment of quantum numbers to recently reported charmed baryon states. Some of them are perfectly described by $D-$wave excitations with $J^P=5/2^+$, as the $Λ_c (2880)$, $Ξ_c(3055)$, and $Ξ_c(3123)$.
To see whether heavy baryon and anti-baryon can form a bound state, the heavy baryonium, we study the interaction potential between them in terms of heavy baryon perturbation theory. The obtained potential is applied to calculate the heavy baryonium masses by solving Schrödinger equation. We find it is true that the heavy baryonium may exist in a reasonable choice of input parameters. The uncertainties remaining in the potential and their influences on the heavy baryonium mass spectrum are discussed.
Using the calculated values of the strong coupling constants of the heavy sextet spin-3/2 baryons to sextet and antitriplet heavy spin-1/2 baryons with light mesons within the light cone QCD sum rules method, and vector meson dominance assumption, the radiative decay widths are calculated. These widths are compared with the "direct" radiative decay widths predicted in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules.
In this talk, we give a short review of our recent works on studying the singly heavy baryon, doubly heavy baryon, and triply heavy baryon spectra from QCD sum rules.
We discuss the structure of current-induced bottom baryon to charm baryon transitions, and the structure of pion and photon transitions between heavy charm or bottom baryons in the Heavy Quark Symmetry limit as ${\scriptstyle m_Q\rightarrow \infty}$. Our discussion involves the ground state $s$-wave heavy baryons as well as the excited $p$-wave heavy baryon states.
This paper studies the leading chiral corrections to heavy quark-diquark symmetry predictions for doubly heavy baryon semileptonic decay form factors. We derive the coupling between heavy diquarks and weak current in the limit of heavy quark-diquark symmetry, and construct the chiral Lagrangian for doubly heavy baryons coupled to weak current. We evaluate chiral corrections to doubly heavy baryon zero-recoil semileptonic decay for both unquenched and partially quenched QCD. This theory is used to derive chiral extrapolation expressions for measurements of form factors of doubly heavy baryon ze…
The heavy spin--3/2 baryon--heavy spin--1/2 baryon vertices with light vector mesons are studied within the light cone QCD sum rules method. These vertices are parametrized in terms of three coupling constants. These couplings are calculated for all possible transitions. It is shown that correlation functions for these transitions are described by only one invariant function for every Lorenz structure. The obtained relations between the correlation functions of the different transitions are structure independent while explicit expressions of invariant functions depend on the Lorenz structure.
The 1/m corrections to heavy baryon masses are calculated from the QCD sum rules within the framework of the heavy quark effective theory. Numerical results for the heavy baryons are obtained. The implications of the results are discussed.
We study the hyperfine mass differences of heavy hadrons in the heavy quark effect theory (HQET). The effects of one-gluon exchange interaction are considered for the heavy mesons and baryons. Base on the known experimental data, we predict the masses of some heavy baryons in a model-independent way.
In the heavy quark limit a heavy baryon which contains two heavy quarks is believed to be composed of a heavy diquark and a light quark. Based on this picture, we evaluate the weak semileptonic decay rates of such baryons. The transition form factors between two heavy baryons are associated with those between two heavy mesons by applying the superflavor symmetry. The effective vertices of the W-boson and two heavy diquarks are obtained in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Numerical predictions on these semileptonic decay widths are presented and they will be tested in the future experiment…
The theoretical analysis of production, lifetime, and decays of doubly heavy baryons is presented. The lifetime of $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ baryon recently measured by the LHCb Collaboration is used to estimate the lifetimes of other doubly heavy baryons. The production and the possibility of observation of $Ξ_{bc}$ baryon at LHC are discussed.
In this article, we study the ${3\over 2}^+$ heavy and doubly heavy baryon states $Ξ^*_{cc}$, $Ω^*_{cc}$, $Ξ^*_{bb}$, $Ω^*_{bb}$, $Σ_c^*$, $Ξ_c^*$, $Ω_c^*$, $Σ_b^*$, $Ξ_b^*$ and $Ω_b^*$ by subtracting the contributions from the corresponding ${3\over 2}^-$ heavy and doubly heavy baryon states with the QCD sum rules, and make reasonable predictions for their masses.
We perform a systematic study of the masses of charmed and bottom baryons in the framework of the QCD sum rule approach. Contributions of the operators up to dimension six are included in operator product expansion. The resulting heavy baryon masses from the calculations are well consistent with the experimental values, and predictions to the spectroscopy of the unobserved bottom baryons are also presented.
We analytically calculate the total and differential cross sections for the pair production of doubly heavy baryons in the framework of diquark model. The processes of electron-positron and quark-antiquark annihilations are considered. The fractions of doubly heavy baryons in the yields of heavy quarks are evaluated numerically.
L=1 excited heavy baryon masses are analyzed by heavy quark and large N_c expansions. In heavy quark limit, mass is parameterized by Λ-bar and it is expanded further by spin-flavor breaking operators to the zeroth order of 1/N_c. Expanding coefficients will be fixed by more data on the excited baryons in the near future.
The combined large N_c and heavy quark limit for baryons containing a single heavy quark is discussed. The combined large N_c and heavy quark expansion of the heavy quark bilinear operators is obtained. In the combined expansion the corrections proportional to m_N/m_Q are summed to all orders. In particular, the combined expansion can be used to determine semileptonic form factors of heavy baryons in the combined limit.
The relativistic six-quark equations are found in the framework of the dispersion relation technique. The charmed baryonia $B\bar B$ are constructed without the mixing of the quarks and antiquarks. The relativistic six-quark amplitudes of the heavy baryonia are calculated. The poles of these amplitudes determine the masses of baryonia. 8 masses of charmed baryonia are predicted.
Charm and bottom baryons and mesons are studied within the framework of a relativistically covariant 3D reduction of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We carry out an analysis of semileptonic decays of heavy hadrons within this framework using explicit oscillator-type wave functions where we calculate Isgur-Wise functions, decay rates and asymmetry parameters. Within this model we also study the effect of interactions between the light quarks inside the heavy baryon and how they affect the values of the computed heavy baryon observables. We also elaborate on the role of relativistic effects in the …
We discuss the model predictions for antibaryon/baryon production ratios in high energy heavy ion collisions. The role of string junction mechanism of baryon number transfer seems to be very important here and we consider some quantitative results.
Using a geometric model for the study of the structure of hadrons, we study baryons having one, two and three heavy quarks. The study reveals diquark structure in baryons with one and two heavy quarks but not with three heavy identical quarks.
Model independent sum rules are applied to recent measurements of heavy c-baryon and d-baryon masses. The sum rules are generally satisfied to the same degree as for the light (u,d,s) baryons.
This paper reviews the experimental status of heavy baryons. It covers the aspec ts of production, spectroscopy and decay presenting recent results obtained in this fi eld. It closes with an outlook on further work on and with heavy baryons and their po ssible role for other measurements.
We study the semileptonic decays of the lowest lying double heavy baryons using the relativistic three-quark model. We do not employ a heavy quark mass expansion but keep the masses of the heavy quarks and baryons finite. We calculate all relevant form factors and decay rates.
In this article, we study the ${1\over 2}^+$ doubly heavy baryon states $Ω_{QQ}$ and $Ξ_{QQ}$ by subtracting the contributions from the corresponding ${1\over 2}^-$ doubly heavy baryon states with the QCD sum rules, and make reasonable predictions for their masses. Those doubly heavy baryon states maybe observed at the Tevatron, the LHCb and the PANDA.
Using the chiral soliton model and heavy quark symmetry we study baryons containing two heavy quarks. If there exists a stable (under strong interactions) meson consisting of two heavy quarks and two light ones, then we find that there always exists a state of this meson bound to a chiral soliton and to a chiral anti-soliton, corresponding to a two heavy quark baryon and a baryon containing two heavy anti-quarks and five light quarks, or a ``heptaquark".
We review the experimental and theoretical status of baryons containing one heavy quark. The charm and bottom baryon states are classified and their mass spectra are listed. The appropriate theoretical framework for the description of heavy baryons is the Heavy Quark Effective Theory, whose general ideas and methods are introduced and illustrated in specific examples. We present simple covariant expressions for the spin wave functions of heavy baryons including p--wave baryons. The covariant spin wave functions are used to determine the Heavy Quark Symmetry structure of flavour--changing curre…
The couplings and interactions of baryons containing a heavy quark are related by light quark spin-flavor symmetry in the large $N$ limit. The single pion coupling constant which determines all heavy quark baryon-pion couplings is equal to the pion coupling constant for light quark baryons. Light quark symmetry relations amongst the baryon couplings are violated at order $1/N^2$. Heavy quark spin-flavor symmetry is used in conjunction with large $N$ light quark spin-flavor symmetry to determine the couplings of the degenerate doublets of heavy quark baryons.
Masses of heavy baryons are calculated in the relativistic quark-diquark picture. Obtained results are in good agreement with available experimental data including recent measurements by the LHCb Collaboration. Possible quantum numbers of excited heavy baryon states are discussed.
The mass spectra of doubly heavy baryons are systematically calculated in the framework of QCD sum rules. With a tentative heavy-diquark--light-quark configuration, the interpolating currents representing the doubly heavy baryons are proposed. Contributions of the operators up to dimension six are included in operator product expansion. The numerical results are compatible with other theoretical predictions, which may support the $(QQ)-(q)$ structure of doubly heavy baryons.
I discuss several recent highly accurate theoretical predictions for masses of baryons containing the b quark, as well as an effective supersymmetry between heavy quark baryons and mesons. I also suggest some possibilities for observing exotic hadrons containing heavy quarks.
We argue that in the large N_c HQET, the masses of the s-wave low-spin heavy baryons equal to the heavy quark mass plus proton mass approximately. To the subleading order, the heavy baryon mass 1/N_c expansion not only has the same form, but also has the same coefficients as that of the light baryon. Based on this, numerical analysis is made.
The magnetic moments of ground state single, double and triple heavy baryons containing charm or bottom quarks are calculated in a relativistic three-quark model, which, in the heavy quark limit, is consistent with Heavy Quark Effective Theory and Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The internal quark structure of baryons is modeled by baryonic three-quark currents with a spin-flavor structure patterned according to standard covariant baryonic wave functions and currents used in QCD sum rule calculations.
We study the semileptonic decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. We present complete results on transition form factors between double-heavy baryons for finite values of the heavy quark/baryon masses and in the heavy quark symmetry limit which is valid at and close to zero recoil. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit.
The triply heavy flavour baryons are studied using the Quark-diquark description of the three-body system. The confinement potential for present study of triply heavy flavour baryons is assumed as coulomb plus power potential with power index $ν$. We have solved Schrodinger equation numerically to calculate the masses of triply heavy flavour baryons. The masses and magnetic moments of triply heavy flavour baryons are computed for different power indices, $ν$, starting from 0.4 to 1.0. The predicted masses and magnetic moments are in good agreement with other theoretical predictions.
In the framework of the path integral approach we develop the velocity component formalism for spin-1/2 and -3/2 baryons coupled with pseudoscalar mesons in the limit of heavy baryons. Starting from the most general chiral meson-baryon lagrangian including the invariance of spin-3/2 fields under point transformation we detail various problems in integrating out the heavy velocity components in the baryon fields and derive the effective lagrangian for the light components up to O(1/M_{baryon}).
We construct the B.S. equation for baryons. The most general form of the B.S. wave function is given. In the heavy quark limit we show clearly that the spin symmetry exists in heavy baryon states.
We present a study of the baryon spectra for all flavor sectors within a constituent quark model. We address some of the outstanding problems in baryon spectroscopy, as for example the spin splitting evolution for te different flavor sectors, the flavor independence of confinement and the missing state problem.
In the framework of diquark model for production we discuss the yields and observation prospects for excited states of doubly heavy baryons at LHC kinematic conditions.
Bethe-Salpeter approach has been applied to the study of b --> c transitions both for heavy mesons and heavy baryons. Meson and baryon IW functions are calculated on the equal footing. A reasonable agreement with the experimental data for heavy to heavy semileptonic transitions has been obtained.
We construct the heavy baryonic currents by using the Bethe-Salpeter wave functions in the heavy quark limit. We discuss the one-loop renormalization of these heavy baryonic currents as well as their two-point correlators up to the order $1/M_h$. For a special case, we do the QCD sum rule for masses of the doublet (3/2,5/2).
We compute magnetic moments of baryons with a heavy quark in the bound state approach for heavy baryons. In this approach the heavy baryon is considered as a heavy meson bound to a light baryon. The latter is represented as a soliton excitation of light meson fields. We obtain the magnetic moments by sandwiching pertinent components of the electromagnetic current operator between the bound state wave--functions. We extract this current operator from the coupling to the photon field after extending the action to be gauge invariant.
It is demonstrated that using an appropriately chosen renormalization condition one can respect power counting within the relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory without appealing to the technique of the heavy baryon approach. Explicit calculations are performed for diagrams including two-loops. It is argued that the introduction of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory was useful but not necessary.
It is shown that the number of independent weak form factors collapses if the heavy diquark exists inside the baryons containing a single heavy quark. The relations between the weak form factors are quite different in the case of light diquark. So a careful analysis on the future data of the weak form factors would clarify that in those baryons the correlation between the heavy quark and a light quark is stronger or weaker than the one between two light quarks.
Baryons with three heavy quarks are the last missing pieces of the lowest-lying baryon multiplets in the quark model after the discovery of doubly heavy baryons. In this work, we study nonleptonic weak decays of triply heavy baryons $Ω_{ccc}^{++}$, $Ω_{bbb}^{-}$, $Ω_{ccb}^{+}$, and $Ω_{cbb}^{0}$. Decay amplitudes for various processes have been parametrized in terms of the SU(3) irreducible nonperturbative amplitudes. A number of relations for the partial decay widths can be deduced from these results that can be examined in future. Some decay channels and cascade decay modes which likely to b…
We perform a detailed investigation of total lifetimes for the doubly heavy baryons $Ξ_{QQ'}$, $Ω_{QQ'}$ in the framework of operator product expansion over the inverse heavy quark mass, whereas, to estimate matrix elements of operators obtained in OPE, approximations of nonrelativistic QCD are used.
The magnetic moments of the negative parity, spin-1/2 baryons containing single heavy quark are calculated. The pollution that occur from the transitions between positive and negative parity baryons are removed by constructing the sum rules from different Lorentz structures.
I review the discovery of the color degree of freedom in hadronic physics, and the developments which led from that discovery to the local gauge theory of color, quantum chromodynamics.
The magnetic moments of heavy sextet $J^P = {1\over 2}^+$ baryons are calculated in framework of the light cone QCD sum rules method. Linearly independent relations among the magnetic moments of these baryons are obtained. The results for the magnetic moments of heavy baryons obtained in this work are compared with the predictions of the other approaches.
We establish exact relations between relativistic form factors and amplitudes for single-baryon processes and the corresponding quantities calculated in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. A crucial ingredient for the proper matching is the first complete treatment of baryon wave function renormalization in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory.
We discuss the fragmentation of a heavy quark to a baryon containing two heavy quarks of mass $m_Q\ggΛ_{\rm QCD}$. In this limit the heavy quarks first combine perturbatively into a compact diquark with a radius small compared to $1/Λ_{\rm QCD}$, which interacts with the light hadronic degrees of freedom exactly as does a heavy antiquark. The subsequent evolution of this $QQ$ diquark to a $QQq$ baryon is identical to the fragmentation of a heavy antiquark to a meson. We apply this analysis to the production of baryons of the form $ccq$, $bbq$, and $bcq$.
The inclusive production of doubly heavy baryons $Ξ_{cc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$ at $γγ$ collider is investigated. It is found that the contribution from the heavy quark pair $QQ$ in color triplet and color sextet are important.
In these introductory notes I give a brief overview on some theoretical aspects of light baryon spectroscopy. The first part contains a discussion of the symmetries of the baryon spectrum, the construction of flavor wave functions and some basic features of quark models. The second part examines the need for relativistic quantum field theory and focusses on spectrum calculations with functional methods.
We calculate the coupling constants between the light vector mesons and heavy baryons within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rule in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory. Most resulting sum rules are stable with the variations of the Borel parameter and the continuum threshold. The extracted couplings will be useful in the study of the possible heavy baryon molecular states.
