We calculate the next-to-leading order fully unintegrated hard scattering coefficient for unpolarized gluon-induced deep inelastic scattering using the logical framework of parton correlation functions developed in previous work. In our approach, exact four-momentum conservation is maintained throughout the calculation. Hence, all non-perturbative functions, like parton distribution functions, depend on all components of parton four-momentum. In contrast to the usual collinear factorization approach where the hard scattering coefficient involves generalized functions (such as Dirac $δ$-functions), the fully unintegrated hard scattering coefficient is an ordinary function. Gluon-induced deep inelastic scattering provides a simple illustration of the application of the fully unintegrated factorization formalism with a non-trivial hard scattering coefficient, applied to a phenomenologically interesting case. Furthermore, the gluon-induced process allows for a parameterization of the fully unintegrated gluon distribution function.
We present main elements of the construction of unintegrated double parton distribution functions which depend on transverse momenta of partons. We follow the method proposed by Kimber, Martin and Ryskin for a construction of unintegrated single parton distributions from the standard parton distribution functions.
Associated with the use of conventional integrated parton densities are kinematic approximations on parton momenta which result in unphysical differential distributions for final-state particles. We argue that it is important to reformulate perturbative QCD results in terms of fully unintegrated parton densities, differential in all components of the parton momentum.
We present the construction of unintegrated double parton distribution functions which include dependence on transverse momenta of partons. We extend the formulation which was used to obtain the single unintegrated parton distributions from the standard, integrated parton distribution functions. Starting from the homogeneous part of the evolution equations for the integrated double parton distributions, we construct the unintegrated double parton distributions as the convolutions of the integrated double distributions and the splitting functions, multiplied by the Sudakov form factors. We show…
We examine the singular behavior from the endpoint region x -> 1 in parton distributions unintegrated in both longitudinal and transverse momenta. We identify and regularize the singularities by using the subtraction method, and compare this with the cut-off regularization method. The counterterms for the distributions with subtractive regularization are given in coordinate space by compact all-order expressions in terms of eikonal-line operators. We carry out an explicit calculation at one loop for the unintegrated quark distribution. We discuss the relation of the unintegrated parton distrib…
We present recent results on transverse momentum dependent parton densities in the limit of small Bjorken x. A definition of an unintegrated seaquark density is proposed which can be used within the CCFM Monte-Carlo event generator CASCADE. We further discuss aspects of the determination of a NLO BFKL unintegrated gluon density.
We study how unintegrated parton distributions in nuclei can be calculated from the corresponding integrated partons using the EPS09 parametrization. The role of nuclear effects is presented in terms of the ratio $R^A=\text{uPDF}^A/A\cdot \text{PDF}^N$ for both large and small $x$ domains.
We show how the generalised (or skewed) parton distributions of the proton, H(x, xi; k_t^2, mu^2), unintegrated over the partonic transverse momenta, can be calculated from the known conventional parton distributions, q(x, mu^2) and g(x, mu^2), for small values of the skewedness parameter xi. We demonstrate the procedure by numerically evaluating the skewed unintegrated gluon. We also provide a simple approximate phenomenological form of the distribution, which may be used to make more rapid predictions of observables.
We introduce a backward evolution Monte Carlo algorithm implementation of the CCFM equation and present latest developments in phenomenology of hadron-hadron collisions for the Monte Carlo generator Cascade.
We describe how to calculate the parton distributions $f_a(x, k_t^2, μ^2)$, unintegrated over the parton transverse momentum $k_t$, from auxiliary functions $h_a(x, k_t^2)$, which satisfy single-scale evolution equations. The formalism embodies both DGLAP and BFKL contributions, and accounts for the angular ordering which comes from coherence effects in gluon emission. We check that the unintegrated distributions give the measured values of the deep inelastic structure function $F_2(x, Q^2)$.
First attempts are described to determine the unintegrated Parton Density Function of the gluon from a fit to measurements of the structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and also $F_2^c(x,Q^2)$ measured at HERA. Reasonable descriptions of both structure functions are obtained, but the gluon densities determined are different.
We describe how unintegrated parton distributions can be calculated from conventional integrated distributions. We extend and improve the 'last-step' evolution approach, and explain why doubly-unintegrated parton distributions are necessary. We generalise k_t-factorisation to (z,k_t)-factorisation. We apply the formalism to inclusive jet production in deep-inelastic scattering, mainly at leading-order, but we also study the extension to next-to-leading order. We compare the predictions with recent HERA data.
Transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions can be introduced gauge-invariantly in QCD from high-energy factorization. We discuss Monte Carlo applications of these distributions to parton showers and jet physics, with a view to the implications for the Monte Carlo description of complex hadronic final states with multiple hard scales at the LHC.
Unintegrated parton distributions in the proton and nucleus are predicted by a modified DGLAP equation incorporating the shadowing corrections, which include exact energy-momentum conservation in each splitting and fusion vertices. We find that the nuclear shadowing effects are obvious, although they are far from the saturation limit. On the other hand, we point out that the suppression of the unintegrated gluon distribution toward lower $k_t^2$ may arise from the valence-like input rather than the saturation effects.
We summarize recent results on i) the use of u-pdf's in the Monte-Carlo simulation of hadronic final states at high-energy colliders, and ii) attempts to characterize u-pdf's with precision in terms of nonlocal operator matrix elements.
We review and discuss the use of TMD, or "unintegrated", gluon distributions in the domain of small-x physics. The definitions employed, and the hazards of the naive applications of the TMD factorization and the associated gluon distributions are discussed.
We discuss the limitations of the standard collinear approach. The kinematical approximations necessary to derive the collinear factorization are insufficient for the description of the exclusive final states. We argue that for a proper treatment of the final states one needs to use fully unintegrated parton correlation functions. We introduce the gauge invariant definitions of these objects and the factorization theorem for one jet production in deep inelastic scattering.
We discuss the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDFs) introduced by Kimber, Martin and Ryskin (KMR), which are frequently used in phenomenological analyses of hard processes with transverse momenta of partons taken into account. We demonstrate numerically that the commonly used differential definition of the UPDFs leads to erroneous results for large transverse momenta. We identify the reason for that, being the use of the ordinary PDFs instead of the cutoff dependent distribution functions. We show that in phenomenological applications, the integral definition of the UPDFs with th…
We show how parton distributions unintegrated over the parton transverse momentum, k_t, may be generated, at NLO accuracy, from the known integrated (DGLAP-evolved) parton densities determined from global data analyses. A few numerical examples are given, which demonstrate that sufficient accuracy is obtained by keeping only the LO splitting functions together with the NLO integrated parton densities. However, it is important to keep the precise kinematics of the process, by taking the scale to be the virtuality rather than the transverse momentum, in order to be consistent with the calculatio…
The Kwiecinski evolution of unintegrated parton distributions (UPDs) in the transverse-coordinate space is analyzed with the help of the Mellin transform. Numerical results are presented for the unintegrated pion distributions with a simple valence-like initial condition at the low scale, which follows from chiral large-Nc quark models. The effect of spreading of UPDs in the transverse momentum with the increasing scale is confirmed, with <kT^2> growing asymptotically as Q^2 alpha(Q^2). Formal aspects of the equations, such as the limits of UPDs at x -> 0, x -> 1, and at low and large b, are s…
Transverse momentum distribution of gauge bosons $W^{\pm}$ and $Z^0$ is calculated using unintegrated parton distributions obtained by solving leading order CCFM equation(s) in the impact parameter space. For illustration we compare the results of the fixed-order collinear, soft-gluon resummation and CCFM approaches. A parameter of a nonperturbative form factor is adjusted to the D0 data. In contrast to the collinear approach, the leading order calculation based on the unintegrated CCFM parton distributions generates transverse momentum distributions of gauge bosons, which are almost consisten…
The cross sections describing the transverse momentum distributions of Higgs bosons are discussed within the framework of unintegrated parton distributions obtained from the CCFM equations in the single loop approximation. It is shown how the approximate treatment of the CCFM equations generates the standard expressions describing the soft gluon resummation effects in the corresponding cross sections. Possible differences between exact and approximate solutions of the CCFM equations are discussed on the example of the gg -> H fusion mechanism, which gives the dominant contribution to Higgs pro…
We describe the use of doubly-unintegrated parton distributions in hadron-hadron collisions, using the (z,k_t)-factorisation prescription where the transverse momentum of the incoming parton is generated in the last evolution step. We apply this formalism to calculate the transverse momentum (P_T) distributions of produced W and Z bosons and compare the predictions to Tevatron Run 1 data. We find that the observed P_T distributions can be generated almost entirely by the leading order q_1 q_2 -> W,Z subprocesses, using known and universal doubly-unintegrated quark distributions. We also calcul…
We introduce a general expression which enables the parton distribution, unintegrated over the parton transverse momentum, to be obtained from the conventional parton densities. We use the formalism to study the effects of the transverse momentum q_t of the incoming partonic system on the calculation of the transverse momentum spectra of prompt photons produced in high energy pp and p\bar{p} collisions. For the purposes of illustration, we use the double logarithm approximation. For large q_t we calculate the effect directly from the perturbative formalism, whereas for small q_t we bound the e…
The inclusive distributions of gluons and pions for high-energy NN collisions are calculated. The results for several unintegrated gluon distributions (UGD's) from the literature are compared. We find huge differences in both rapidity and $p_t$ of gluons and $π$'s in NN collisions for different models of UGD's. The Karzeev-Levin UGD gives good description of momentum distribution of charged hadrons at midrapidities. We find, however, that the gluonic mechanism discussed does not describe the inclusive distributions of charged particles in the fragmentation region. Some of the missing mechanism…
We suggest a classification scheme for parton distribution models, clarify the geometrical origin of unintegrated parton distribution relations, which were observed in various models, present new model relations, and provide for a so-called "spherical" model the analogous constraints for generalized parton distributions. Our findings suggest that various classes of uPDF and GPD models can be obtained from effective two-body light-cone wave functions.
The application of k_t - factorization supplemented with the CCFM small-x evolution equation to heavy quark production is discussed. The b-b_bar production cross sections at the TEVATRON can be consistently described using the k_t-factorization formalism together with the unintegrated gluon density obtained within the CCFM evolution approach from a fit to HERA F_2 data. Special attention is drawn to the comparison with measured visible cross sections. The visible measured cross sections at HERA are compared to the hadron level Monte Carlo generator CASCADE.
In this paper we derive an integral equation for the evolution of unintegrated (longitudinally) polarized quark and gluon parton distributions. The conventional CCFM framework is extended at small x in order to incorporate the QCD expectations concerning the double ln^2(1/x) resummation at low x for the integrated distributions. Complete Altarelli-Parisi splitting functions are included, that makes the formalism compatible with the LO Altarelli-Parisi evolution at large and moderately small values of x. The obtained modified polarized CCFM equation is shown to be partially diagonalized by the …
Sufficiently inclusive processes, like the deep inelastic scattering (DIS), are described in terms of scale-dependent parton distributions, which correspond to the density of partons with a given longitudinal momentum fraction, integrated over the parton transverse momentum. For less inclusive processes, one needs to consider densities unintegrated over the transverse momentum. This work focuses on the unintegrated gluon distribution (UGD), describing the probability that a gluon can be emitted by a colliding proton, with definite longitudinal fraction and transverse momentum. Through the lept…
The unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDFs) of $^3H$, $^3He$ and $^4He$ nuclei are generated to calculate their structure functions (SFs) in the $k_t$-factorization approach. The Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) formalisn is applied to evaluate the double-scale UPDFs of these nuclei from their single-scale parton distribution functions (PDFs), which can be obtained from the constituent quark exchange model (CQEM). Afterwards, these SFs are used to calculate the European Muon Collaboration (EMC) ratios of these nuclei. The resulting EMC ratios are then compared with the available experimen…
In the present work, it is intended to calculate the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDFs) of the $^6{Li}$ nucleus, which depend not only on the longitudinal momentum fraction $x$ (the Bjorken variable) and the factorization scale $μ$ of partons, but also on their transverse momentum ($k_t$). Therefore, the KMR and MRW procedures are applied to generate the $k_t$-dependent parton distributions from the familiar integrated parton densities (PDFs), which were determined in our recent related work, using the constituent quark exchange model (CQEM) for the $^6Li$ nucleus. Then, the re…
The unintegrated quark and gluon distributions in the pion and nucleon are analysed using the CCFM equations in the single-loop approximation. We utilise the transverse-coordinate (or impact-parameter) representation which diagonalises the equations and study in detail the dependence on the transverse coordinate induced by the CCFM evolution. We find considerable broadening of the transverse-momentum distributions with an increasing magnitude of the hard scale, Q. For instance, at the Bjorken x=0.1 the root mean squared transverse momentum of the gluons is enhanced by about 1 GeV when evolved …
We define and study the properties of generalized beam functions (BFs) and fragmenting jet functions (FJFs), which are fully-unintegrated parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs) for perturbative k_T. We calculate at one loop the coefficients for matching them onto standard PDFs and FFs, correcting previous results for the BFs in the literature. Technical subtleties when measuring transverse momentum in dimensional regularization are clarified, and this enables us to renormalize in momentum space. Generalized BFs describe the distribution in the full four-momentum…
Motivated by the need to correct the potentially large kinematic errors in approximations used in the standard formulation of perturbative QCD, we reformulate deeply inelastic lepton-proton scattering in terms of gauge invariant, universal parton correlation functions which depend on all components of parton four-momentum. Currently, different hard QCD processes are described by very different perturbative formalisms, each relying on its own set of kinematical approximations. In this paper we show how to set up formalism that avoids approximations on final-state momenta, and thus has a very ge…
Inclusive cross sections for pion production in $pp$ collisions are calculated for the first time fully based on unintegrated gluon, quark and antiquark distributions (uPDF). We use recently developed Kwieciński uPDF's and different phenomenological fragmentation functions (FF) from the literature. In addition to the $gg \to g$ diagram we include also $g q \to q$ and $q g \to q$ diagrams for inclusive parton production. The cross section for pions is obtained then by convoluting the inclusive parton distributions and FFs. Applications for SPS and RHIC are shown.
We use the unintegrated Parton Density Functions of the gluon obtained from a fit to measurements of the structure functions F2 and F2c at HERA to describe the experimental data for F2b, FL and FL at fixed W.
The longitudinal proton structure function, $F_L(x,Q^2)$, from the $k_t$ factorization formalism by using the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDF) which are generated through the KMR and MRW procedures. The LO UPDF of the KMR prescription is extracted, by taking into account the PDF of Martin et al, i.e. MSTW2008-LO and MRST99-NLO and next, the NLO UPDF of the MRW scheme is generated through the set of MSTW2008-NLO PDF as the inputs. The different aspects of $F_L(x,Q^2)$ in the two approaches, as well as its perturbative and non-perturbative parts are calculated. Then the comparis…

We previously investigated the compatibility of the $Kimber$-$Martin$-$Ryskin$ ($KMR$) $unintegrated$ parton distribution functions ($UPDF$) with the experimental data on the proton (longitudinal) structure functions ($PSF$ ($PLSF$)). Recently $Golec-Biernat$ and $Stasto$ ($GBS$) demonstrated that the differential version of $KMR$ prescription and the implementations of angular (strong) ordering ($AOC$ ($SOC$)) constraints, cause the negative-discontinuous $UPDF$ with the ordinary parton distribution functions ($PDF$) as the input, which leads to a sizable effect on the calculation of $PSF$. I…
We compare results of $2 \to 1$ $k_t$-factorization approach with Kwieciński unintegrated parton distributions and the standard collinear factorization approach at RHIC and slightly smaller energies. Our approach contains only one free parameter responsible for internal parton motion in nucleons. In contrast to recent works in the literature our $k_t$-factorization approach includes also quark degrees of freedom in addition to purely gluonic terms. Both mid and forward rapidity regions are considered. We discuss uncertainties due to fragmentation functions. In general, the $k_t$-factorization …
We introduce a classification scheme for parton distribution models and we model generalized parton distributions (GPDs), their form factors, and parton distribution functions (PDFs), integrated and unintegrated ones, in terms of unintegrated double distributions that are obtained from the parton number conserved overlap of effective light-front wave functions. For a so-called "spherical" model we present general expressions for all twist-two related non-perturbative quantities in terms of one effective light-front wave function, including chiral-odd GPDs. We also discuss the Regge improvement…
Inclusive cross sections for pion production in proton-proton collisions are calculated for the first time based on unintegrated parton (gluon, quark, antiquark) distributions (uPDF). We use Kwieciński uPDF's and phenomenological fragmentation functions from the literature. In addition to the $gg \to g$ diagram used recently for applications at RHIC we include also $g q \to q$ and $q g \to q$ diagrams. We find that the new contributions are comparable to the purely gluonic one at midrapidities and dominate in the fragmentation region. The new mechanisms are responsible for $π^+ - π^-$ asymmetr…
The present work is devoted to study the high-energy $QCD$ events, such as the di-jet productions from proton-proton inelastic collisions at the $LHC$ in the forward-center and the forward-forward configurations, using the $unintegrated$ parton distribution functions ($UPDF$) in the $k_t$-factorization framework. The $UPDF$ of $Kimber$ et. al. ($KMR$) and $Martin$ et.al. ($MRW$) are generated in the leading order ($LO$) and next-to-leading order ($NLO$), using the $Harland-Lang$ et al. ($MMHT2014$) $PDF$ libraries. While working in the forward-center and the forward-forward rapidity sectors, o…
Feynman diagrams with two real partons contributing to the next-to-leading-order singlet gluon-quark DGLAP kernel are analysed. The infra-red singularities of unintegrated distributions are examined numerically. The analytical formulae are also given in some cases. The role of the colour coherence effects is found to be crucial for cancellations of the double- and single-logarithmic infra-red singularities.
I give an account of the definitions of parton densities, both the conventional ones, integrated over parton transverse momentum, and unintegrated transverse-momentum-dependent densities. The aim is to get a precise and correct definition of a parton density as the target expectation value of a suitable quantum mechanical operator, so that a clear connection to non-perturbative QCD is provided. Starting from the intuitive ideas in the parton model that predate QCD, we will see how the simplest operator definitions suffer from divergences. Corrections to the definition are needed to eliminate t…
We present detailed numerical analysis of the unintegrated double gluon distribution which includes the dependence on the transverse momenta of partons. The unintegrated double gluon distribution was obtained following the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin method as a convolution of the perturbative gluon splitting function with the collinear integrated double gluon distribution and the Sudakov form factors. We analyze the dependence on the transverse momenta, longitudinal momentum fractions and hard scales. We find that the unintegrated gluon distribution factorizes into a product of two single unintegrat…
The formalism for uniform description of Drell-Yan transverse-momentum spectrum is presented in a framework of High-Energy Factorization, which smoothly interpolates between Collins-Soper-Sterman formalism at $|{\bf q}_T|\ll Q$ and usual Collinear Parton Model at $|{\bf q}_T|\sim Q\ll \sqrt{S}$. The new formula for deriving Unintegrated Parton Distribution Functions(UPDFs) from collinear ones is introduced, which leads to excellent description of the shape of $Z$-boson $|{\bf q}_T|$-spectrum at high energies up to $|{\bf q}_T|/\sqrt{S}\simeq 0.02$. Description of normalized $|{\bf q}_T|$-distr…
The Kwiecinski equations for the QCD evolution of the unintegrated parton distributions in the transverse-coordinate space (b) are analyzed with the help of the Mellin-transform method. The equations are solved numerically in the general case, as well as in a small-b expansion which converges fast for b Lambda_QCD sufficiently small. We also discuss the asymptotic limit of large bQ and show that the distributions generated by the evolution decrease with b according to a power law. Numerical results are presented for the pion distributions with a simple valence-like initial condition at the low…
In this work, we study the structure of the leading order Martin-Ryskin-Watt (MRW) unintegrated parton distribution function (UPDF) and explain in detail why there exists discrepancy between the two different definitions of this UPDF model, i.e., the integral (I-MRW) and differential (D-MRW) MRW UPDFs. We perform this investigation with both angular and strong ordering cutoffs. The derivation footsteps of obtaining the I-MRW UPDF from the D-MRW ones are numerically performed, and the reason of such non-equivalency between the two forms is clearly explained. We show and find out that both metho…
We briefly review some of the developments in the study of parton distributions which have occurred since DIS2000, including discussion of uncertainties, shadowing, unintegrated and generalized distributions.
In a series of papers, we have investigated the compatibility of the $Kimber$-$Martin$-$Ryskin$ ($KMR$) and $Martin$-$Ryskin$-$Watt$ ($MRW$) $unintegrated$ parton distribution functions ($UPDF$) as well as the description of the experimental data on the proton structure functions. The present work is a sequel to that survey, via calculation of the transverse momentum distribution of the electro-weak gauge vector bosons in the $k_t$-factorization scheme, by the means of the $KMR$, the $LO\;MRW$ and the $NLO\;MRW$ $UPDF$, in the next-to leading order ($NLO$). To this end, we have calculated and …
The next-to-leading order (NLO) evolution of the parton distribution functions (PDF's) in QCD is the "industry standard" in the lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collider data analysis. The standard NLO DGLAP evolution is formulated for inclusive (integrated) PDFs and is done using inclusive NLO kernels. We report here on the ongoing project, called KRKMC, in which NLO DGLAP evolution is performed for the exclusive multiparton (fully unintegrated) distributions (ePDF's) with the help of the exclusive kernels. These kernels are calculated within the two-parton phase space for bremsstrahlung subse…
The system of CCFM equations for unintegrated parton distributions in a photon is considered in the single loop approximation. We include quarks and non-singular parts of the splitting functions in the corresponding evolution equations. We solve the system of CCFM equations utilising the transverse coordinate representation which diagonalises these equations in the single loop approximation. The results for the unintegrated gluon distributions in a photon are presented and confronted with the approximate form expressing those distributions in terms of the integrated gluon and quark distributio…
In the framework of semi-hard QCD approach, we present a consistent analysis of D^* meson production at HERA energies. The consideration is based on universal unintegrated gluon densities, which have BFKL behavior in the small x region. Predictions of the CCFM evolution equation for D^* production are obtained and show a good description of D^* data at HERA.
Presently available perturbative QCD calculations combining hard process matrix element with the Parton Shower Monte Carlo programs feature hard process matrix element calculated often beyond the leading order (LO), that is including complete next-to-leading-order (NLO), or even next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) corrections, while Parton Shower is only at the leading order (LO). We report here on a work in progress which demonstrate feasibility of constructing Parton Shower Monte Carlo (PSMC) featuring complete NLO corrections to QCD evolution with respect to the logarithm of the factorizat…
We are reporting on the ongoing effort of the Monte Carlo (MC) modelling of NLO DGLAP QCD evolution in the fully unintegrated form. The resulting parton shower MC is performing on its own the NLO QCD evolution, contrary to all known programs of this kind which are limited to LO level only. We overview this new MC scheme, for the non-singlet subset of the gluonstrahlung diagrams. Precision numerical tests of this new scheme are also shown.
The differential cross section for the dilepton production is calculated including Fermi motion of hadron constituents as well as emission from the ladders in the formalism of unintegrated parton distributions. We use unintegrated parton distributions which fulfil Kwieciński evolution equations. Both zeroth- and first-order (for matrix element) contributions are included. We calculate azimuthal angular correlations between charged leptons and deviations from the $p_t(l^+) = p_t(l^-)$ relation. We concentrate on the distribution in dilepton-pair transverse momentum. We find incident energy and …
We investigate the prompt photon photoproduction at HERA within the framework of kt-factorization QCD approach. Our consideration is based on the off-shell matrix elements for the underlying partonic subprocesses. The unintegrated parton densities in a proton and in a photon are determined using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescription. Additionally, we use the CCFM-evolved unintegrated gluon as well as valence and sea quark distributions in a proton. A conservative error analisys is performed. Both inclusive and associated with the hadronic jet production rates are investigated. The theore…
