In this note we study the possibility of obtaining dark energy solution in a D-brane scenario in a warped background that includes brane-position dependent corrections for the non-perturbative superpotential. The volume modulus is stabilized at instantaneous minima of the potential. Though the model can account for the existence of dark energy within present observational bound - fine-tuning of the model parameters becomes unavoidable. Moreover, the model does not posses a tracker solution.
We consider the agegraphic models of dark energy in a braneworld scenario with brane-bulk energy exchange. We assume that the adiabatic equation for the dark matter is satisfied while it is violated for the agegraphic dark energy due to the energy exchange between the brane and the bulk. Our study shows that with the brane-bulk interaction, the equation of state parameter of agegraphic dark energy on the brane, $w_D$, can have a transition from normal state where $w_D >-1 $ to the phantom regime where $w_D <-1 $, while the effective equation of state for dark energy always satisfies $w^{\mathr…
Within our thick brane approach previously used to obtain the cosmological evolution equations on a thick brane embedded in a five-dimensional Schwarzschild Anti-de Sitter spacetime it is explicitly shown that the consistency of these equations with the energy conservation equation requires that, in general, the thickness of the brane evolves in time. This varying brane thickness entails the possibility that both Newton's gravitational constant $G$ and the effective cosmological constant $Λ_4$ are time dependent.
Specific dark energy models with linear inhomogeneous time-dependent equation of state, within the framework of 4d Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology, are investigated. It is demonstrated that the choice of such 4d inhomogeneous fluid models may lead to a brane FRW cosmology without any explicit account of higher dimensions at all. Effectively, we thus obtain a brane dark energy universe without introducing the brane concept explicitly. Several examples of brane Rip cosmology arising from 4d inhomogeneous dark fluid models are given.
Gravitational collapse of FRW brane world embedded in a conformaly flat bulk is considered for matter cloud consists of dark matter and dark energy with equation of state $p=ερ$ $(ε<-{1/3})$. The effect of dark matter and dark energy is being considered first separately and then a combination of them both with and without interaction. In some cases the collapse leads to black hole in some other cases naked singularity appears.
In this paper, we present a model for the late-time evolution of the universe where a dark energy-dark matter interaction is invoked. Dark energy is modeled through an holographic Ricci dark energy component. The model is embedded within an induced gravity brane-world model. For suitable choices of the interaction coupling, the big rip and little rip induced by the holographic Ricci dark energy, in a relativistic model and in an induced gravity brane-world model, are removed. In this scenario, the holographic dark energy will have a phantom-like behaviour even though the brane is asymptoticall…
We discuss the exact solutions of brane universes and the results indicate the Friedmann equations on the branes are modified with a new density term. Then, we assume the new term as the density of dark energy. Using Wetterich's parametrization equation of state (EOS) of dark energy, we obtain the new term varies with the red-shift z. Finally, the evolutions of the mass density parameter $Ω_2$, dark energy density parameter $Ω_x$ and deceleration parameter q_2 are studied.
In this paper, we investigate the background dynamics in brane cosmology when dark energy is coupled to dark matter by a suitable interaction. Here we consider an homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) brane model and the evolution equations are reduced to an autonomous system by suitable transformation of variables. The nature of critical points are analyzed by evaluating the eigenvalues of linearized Jacobi matrix. Finally, the classical stability of the model is also studied.
The usual brane world scenario with anti de Sitter bulk has been generalized by considering a general form of energy momentum tensor in the bulk. The modified Einstein equation on the brane has been constructed. Two examples have been cited of which, the first one shows the usual brane equations when matter in the bulk is a negative cosmological constant. In the second example, the bulk matter is in the form of perfect fluid and as a result, an effective perfect fluid is obtained in the brane. Also it is noted that the effect of the dust bulk on the brane shows a dark energy behaviour and may …
This paper is aimed at investigating a 5D holographic dark energy in DGP-BRANE cosmology by employing a combination of Sne Ia, BAO and CMB observational data to fit the cosmological parameters in the model. We describe the dynamic of a FRW for the normal branch ($ε$ = +1) of solutions of the induced gravity brane-world model. We take the matter in 5D bulk as holographic dark energy that its holographic nature is reproduced effectively in 4D. The cosmic evolution reveals that the effective 4D holographic dark energy behaves as quintessence while taking into account the 4D cold dark matter resul…
The some models of holographic dark energy for Randall-Sandrum brane are considered. For first class of dark energy models we take energy density in form $\sim L^{2γ-4}$ where $L$ is size of events horizon in Universe and $γ$ is parameter (Tsallis holographic energy). Analysis of observational data allows to define upper limit on value of $δ=ρ_{0}/2λ$ ($ρ_{0}$ is current energy density in the Universe and $λ$ is brane tension). Then we investigate models for which dark energy density has form $ρ_{de}=C^{2}L^{-2}-C_{1}^{2}H^{2}$ where $H$ is Hubble parameter.
This article is devoted to the application of the holographic principle to describe Rip brane cosmological models in the presence of a bulk viscosity. We make use of the generalized infrared-cutoff holographic dark energy, introduced by Nojiri and Odintsov We consider various examples: Rip brane cosmology corresponding to the Little Rip case, asymptotic de Sitter theory, and the so-called Big Freeze theory leading to a singularity. Analytical expressions for infrared cutoffs, as well as the particle and the future horizons at the brane, are obtained. The equations for energy conservation on th…
In this paper we consider a $Z_2$ symmetrical 3-brane embedded in a 5-dimensional spacetime. We study the effective Einstein equation and acceleration condition in presence of the quintom dark energy fluid as the bulk matter field. It is shown that the time-dependent bulk quintom field induces a time-dependent cosmological constant on the brane. In the framework of the DGP model, the effective Einstein equation is obtained in two different cases: i) where the quintom field is considered as the bulk matter field and the brane is empty and, ii) where the quintom dark energy is confined on the br…
We here investigate the model of interacting dark energy in the context of five dimensional brane cosmology. The effective equations of state of dark energy are evaluated for various choices of the variable time dependent cosmological constant. We have found that the interacting dark energy obeys the phantom divide/crossing scenario in this generalized model. It is also shown that interacting dark energy in this generalized model also resolves the cosmic coincidence problem.
In this paper, we investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSLT) in the DGP brane world when universe is filled with interacting two fluid system: one in the form of cold dark matter and other is holographic dark energy. The boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon or the event horizon. The universe is chosen to be homogeneous and isotropic FRW model and the validity of the first law has been assumed here.
We construct a holographic dark energy model with a non-minimally coupled scalar field on the brane where Gauss-Bonnet and Induced Gravity effects are taken into account. This model provides a wide parameter space with several interesting cosmological implications. Especially, the equation of state parameter of the model crosses the phantom divide line and it is possible to realize bouncing solutions in this setup.
A proposal to study the original and new agegraphic dark energy in DGP braneworld cosmology is presented in this work. To verify our model with the observational data, the model is constrained by a variety of independent measurements such as Hubble parameter, cosmic microwave background anisotropies, and baryon acoustic oscillation peaks. The best fitting procedure shows the effectiveness of agegraphic parameter $n$ in distinguishing between the original and new agegraphic dark energy scenarios and subsequent cosmological findings. In particular, the result shows that in both scenarios, our un…
We consider a Brans-Dicke cosmology in five-dimensional space-time. Neglecting the quadratic and the mixed Brans-Dicke terms in the Einstein equation, we derive a modified wave equation of the Brans-Dicke field. We show that, at high energy limit, the 3-brane Brans-Dicke cosmology could be described as the standard one by changing the equation of state. Finally as an illustration of the purpose, we show that the dark energy component of the universe agrees with the observations data.
We construct a holographic dark energy model in a braneworld setup that gravity is induced on the brane embedded in a bulk with Gauss-Bonnet curvature term. We include possible modification of the induced gravity and its coupling with a canonical scalar field on the brane. Through a perturbational approach to calculate the effective gravitation constant on the brane, we examine the outcome of this model as a candidate for holographic dark energy.
The aim of this work is to apply the dynamical system approach to study the linear dynamics of the normal DGP brane-world model with agegraphic dark energy. The stability analysis of the model will be investigated and the phase plane portrait will be illustrated. The nature of critical points will be analyzed by evaluating the eigenvalues of a linearized Jacobi matrix. Also, the statefinder diagnostic procedure will be applied to show the slight deviation from the ΛCDM model. One of the most interesting results of this work is the great alleviation of the coincidence problem.
The illustration of cosmic acceleration under two interacting dark energy models (pilgrim dark energy with Granda and Oliveros cutoff and its generalized ghost version) in DGP braneworld framework is presented. In the current scenario, the equation of state parameter, deceleration parameter, $ω_{D}-ω'_{D}$ plane and statefinder diagnosis are investigated. The equation state parameter behave-like phantom era of the universe. The deceleration parameter depicts the accelerated expansion of the universe in both models. The cosmological planes like $ω_{D}-ω'_{D}$ and statefinder corresponds to $Λ$C…
The energy density of the holographic dark energy is based on the area law of entropy, and thus any modification of the area law leads to a modified holographic energy density. Inspired by the entropy expression associated with the apparent horizon of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe in DGP braneworld, we propose a new model for the holographic dark energy in the framework of DGP brane cosmology. We investigate the cosmological consequences of this new model and calculate the equation of state parameter by choosing the Hubble radius, $L = H^{-1}$, as the system's IR cutoff. Our stud…
A proposal to study the effect of interaction in an agegraphic dark energy model in DGP brane-world cosmology is presented in this manuscript. After explaining the details, we proceed to apply the dynamical system approach to the model to analyze its stability. We first, constrain model parameters with a variety of independent observational data such as cosmic microwave background anisotropies, baryon acoustic oscillation peaks and observational Hubble data. Then, we obtain the critical points related to different cosmological epochs. In particular, we conclude that in the presence of interact…
We consider the theory of closed $p$-branes propagating on $(p+1)$-dimensional space-time manifolds. This theory has no local degrees of freedom. Here we study its canonical and BRST structures of the theory. In the case of locally flat backgrounds one can show that the $p$-brane theory is related to another known topological field theory. In the general situation some equivalent actions can also be written for the topological $p$-brane theory.
We consider a six-dimensional braneworld model and we study the cosmological evolution of a (4+1) brane-universe. Introducing matter on the brane we show that the scale factor of the physical three-dimensional brane-universe is related to the scale factor of the fourth dimension on the brane, and the suppression of the extra dimension compared to the three dimensions requires the presence of dark energy.
Adopting Dirac's brane variation prescription, the energy-momentum tensor of a brane gets supplemented by a geometrical (embedding originated) dark component. While the masslessness of the graviton is preserved, and the Newton force law is recovered, the corresponding Newton constant is necessarily lower than the one which governs FRW cosmology. This has the potential to puzzle out cosmological dark matter, a subsequent conjecture concerning galactic dark matter follows.
We demonstrate that there exists an inflationary solution on the positive tension brane in the Randall-Sundrum scenario. Inflation is driven by a slow-rolling scalar field on the brane and is achieved within the perturbative limit of the radion field. We find that inflation on the positive tension brane results in a slight increase in the separation between the two branes. However, we show that the slow-roll inflation is not possible on the negative tension brane.
We investigate the dynamics of a spherically symmetric vaccum on a Randall and Sundrum 3-brane world. Under certain natural conditions, the effective Einstein equations on the brane form a closed system for spherically symmetric dark radiation. We determine exact dynamical and inhomogeneous solutions, which are shown to depend on the brane cosmological constant, on the dark radiation tidal charge and on its initial energy configuration. We identify the conditions defining these solutions as singular or as globally regular. Finally, we discuss the confinement of gravity to the vicinity of the b…
In this paper, we study the acoustic black hole emerged from the nonextremal black D3-brane, based on the holographic approaches in constructing the acoustic black hole in asymptotically Anti de-Sitter spacetime (AAdS) and the effective hydrodynamic description of the nonextremal black D3-brane. We show that the holographic dual description of the acoustic black hole appeared on the timelike cutoff surface in the nonextremal black D3-brane also exist. The duality includes the dynamical connection between the acoustic black hole and the bulk gravity, a universal equation relating the Hawking-li…
New exact solutions of brane-world cosmology are given. These solutions include an arbitrary constant C, which is determined by the geometry outside the brane and which affects the cosmological evolution in the brane-world. If C is zero, then the standard cosmology governs the brane-world as a low-energy effective cosmological theory. However, if C is not zero, then even in low-energy the brane-world cosmology gives predictions different from the standard one. The difference can be understood as ``dark radiation'', which is not real radiation but alters cosmological evolutions.
We analyze, within the framework of unified brane gravity, the weak-field perturbations caused by the presence of matter on a 3-brane. Although deviating from the Randall-Sundrum approach, the masslessness of the graviton is still preserved. In particular, the four-dimensional Newton force law is recovered, but serendipitously, the corresponding Newton constant is shown to be necessarily lower than the one which governs FRW cosmology. This has the potential to puzzle out cosmological dark matter. A subsequent conjecture concerning galactic dark matter follows.
We discuss scalar brane world cosmological perturbations for a 3-brane world in a maximally symmetric 5D bulk. We show that Mukoyama's master equations leads, for adiabatic perturbations of a perfect fluid on the brane and for scalar field matter on the brane, to a well posed problem despite the "non local" aspect of the boundary condition on the brane. We discuss in relation to the wellposedness the way to specify initial data in the bulk.
Following a previous work [Gen. Relativ. Gravit. 43 (2011)], we further study the behavior of a real scalar field in a hidden brane in a configuration of two branes embedded in a five dimensional bulk. We find an expression for the equation of state for this scalar field in the visible brane in terms of the fields of the hidden one. Additionally, we investigated the perturbations produced by this scalar field in the visible brane with the aim to study their dynamical properties. Our results show that if the kinetic energy of the scalar field dominates during the early universe the perturbed sc…
In this work, we show that regular black holes in a Randall-Sundrum-type brane world model are generated by the nonlocal bulk influence, expressed by a constant parameter in the brane metric, only in the spherical case. In the axial case (black holes with rotation), this influence forbids them. A nonconstant bulk influence is necessary to generate regular black holes with rotation in this context.
We present a novel dark energy candidate, based upon the existence and dynamics of Ghost D-branes in a warped compactification of type IIB string theory. Gp-branes cancel the combined BPS sectors of the Dp-branes, while they preserve the same supersymmetries. We show that this scenario can naturally lead to either quintessence or phantom-like behaviors, depending on the form of the involved potentials and brane tension.
In String Theory compactification, branes are often invoked to get the desired form of the radion effective potential. Current popular way of doing this assumes that the introduction of branes will not modify the background geometry in an important way. In this paper, we show by an explicit example that at least in the codimension 2 case, the gravitational backreaction of the brane cannot be neglected in deriving the radion effective potential. Actually, in this case, the presence of branes will have no effect on the dynamics of radion.
The glueball dark matter, in the pure SU(N) Yang-Mills theory, engenders dark SU(N) stars that comprise self-gravitating compact configurations of scalar glueball fields. Corrections to the highest frequency of gravitational wave radiation emitted by dark SU(N) star mergers on a fluid brane with variable tension, implemented by the minimal geometric deformation, are derived and their consequences analysed. Hence, dark SU(N) stars mergers on a fluid brane-world are shown to be better detectable by the LIGO and the eLISA experiments.
From the dynamics of a brane-world with matter fields present in the bulk, the bulk metric and the black string solution near the brane are generalized, when both the dynamics of inhomogeneous dust/generalized dark radiation on the brane-world and inhomogeneous dark radiation in the bulk as well are considered -- as exact dynamical collapse solutions. Based on the analysis on the inhomogeneous static exterior of a collapsing sphere of homogeneous dark radiation on the brane, the associated black string warped horizon is studied, as well as the 5D bulk metric near the brane. Moreover, the black…
Spherically symmetric, static on-brane geometries in the Kanno-Soda (KS) effective scalar-tensor theory of on-brane gravity are discussed. In order to avoid brane collisions and/or an infinite inter-brane distance, at finite values of the brane coordinates, it is necessary that the radion scalar be everywhere finite and non-zero. This requirement constrains the viability of the standard, well-known solutions in General Relativity (GR), in the context of the KS effective theory. The radion for the Schwarzschild solution does not satisfy the above requirement. For the Reissner--Nordstrom (RN) na…
In this work we have investigated the effects of the interaction between a brane universe and the bulk in which it is embedded. Considering the effects of the interaction between a brane universe and the bulk we have obtained the equation of state for the interacting holographic Ricci dark energy density $ρ_Λ=3c^2 (\dot{H}+2 H^2)$ in the flat universe. We have investigated the impact of $c^2$ on the equation of state $ω_Λ$. Also, considering the power law for of the scale factor, we have observed that non-trivial contributions of dark energy which differ from the standard matter fields confine…
The behavior of the angular velocity of a test particle moving in a stable circular orbit in the vacuum on the brane is considered. In the brane world scenario, the four dimensional effective Einstein equation acquire extra terms, called dark radiation and dark pressure, respectively, which arise from the embedding of the 3-brane in the bulk. A large number of independent observations have shown that the rotational velocities of test particles gravitating around galaxies tend, as a function of the distance from the galactic center, toward constant values. By assuming a constant tangential velo…
We apply bulk holographic dark energy in general braneworld models with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term and a perfect fluid on the brane. Without making any additional assumptions we extract the Friedmann equation on the physical brane and we show that a $ρ$-$ρ_Λ$ coupling arises naturally by the full 5D dynamics. The low-energy (late-time) evolution reveals that the effective 4D holographic dark energy behaves as ``quintom'', that is it crosses the phantom divide $w=-1$ during the evolution. In particular, the Gauss-Bonnet contribution decreases the present value o…
The effective Friedmann equation describing the evolution of the brane Universe in the cosmology of the Randall-Sundrum model includes a dark (or mirage or Weyl) radiation term. The brane evolution can be interpreted as the motion of the brane in an AdS-Schwarzschild bulk geometry. The energy density of the dark radiation is proportional to the black hole mass. We generalize this result for an AdS bulk space with an arbitrary matter component. We show that the mirage term retains its form, but the black hole mass is replaced by the covariantly defined integrated mass of the bulk matter. As thi…
In this paper we investigate, from the dynamical systems perspective, the evolution of an scalar field with arbitrary potential trapped in a Randall-Sundrum's Braneworld of type 2. We consider an homogeneous but anisotropic Bianchi I (BI) brane filled also with a perfect fluid. We also consider the effect of the projection of the five-dimensional Weyl tensor onto the three-brane in the form of a positive Dark Radiation term. Using the center manifold theory we obtain sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of de Sitter solution with standard 4D behavior. We also prove that there are…
In this paper we study the tachyonic inflation in brane world cosmology with Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk. We obtain the exact solution of slow roll equations in case of exponential potential. We attempt to implement the proposal of Lidsey and Nunes, astro-ph/0303168, for the tachyon condensate rolling on the Gauss-Bonnet brane and discuss the difficulties associated with the proposal.
Dynamics of brane-world models of dark energy is reviewed. We demonstrate that simple dark energy brane models can be represented as 2-dimensional dynamical systems of a Newtonian type. Hence a fictitious particle moving in a potential well characterizes the model. We investigate the dynamics of the brane models using methods of dynamical systems. The simple brane-world models can be successfully unified within a single scheme -- an ensemble of brane dark energy models. We characterize generic models of this ensemble as well as exceptional ones using the notion of structural stability (instabi…
We investigate the Ricci Dark Energy (RDE) in the braneworld models with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the Bulk. We solve the generalized Friedmann equation on the brane analytically and find that the universe will finally enter into a pure de Sitter spacetime in stead of the big rip that appears in the usual 4D Ricci dark energy model with parameter $α<1/2$. We also consider the Hubble horizon as the IR cutoff in holographic dark energy model and find it can not accelerate the universe as in the usual case without interacting.
We study the cosmological predictions of the dark D-brane model, in which dark matter resides on a D-brane moving in a higher-dimensional space. By construction, dark matter interacts only gravitationally with the standard model sector in this framework. The dark energy scalar field is associated with the position of the D-brane, and its dynamics is encoded in a Dirac-Born-Infeld action. On the other hand, dark matter is identified with matter on the D-brane, that naturally couples to dark energy \textit{via} a disformal coupling. We analyse the numerical evolution of the cosmological backgrou…
We obtain the zero mode effective action for gravitating objects in the bulk of dilatonic domain walls. Without additional fields included in the bulk action, the zero mode effective action reproduces the action in one lower dimensions obtained through the ordinary Kaluza-Klein (KK) compactification, only when the transverse (to the domain wall) component of the bulk metric does not have non-trivial term depending on the domain wall worldvolume coordinates. With additional fields included in the bulk action, non-trivial dependence of the transverse metric component on the domain wall worldvolu…
We investigate the effects on cosmological density perturbations of dark radiation in a Randall-Sundrum 2 type brane-world. Dark radiation in the background is limited by observational constraints to be a small fraction of the radiation energy density, but it has an interesting qualitative effect in the radiation era. On large scales, it serves to slightly suppress the radiation density perturbations at late times, while boosting the perturbations in dark radiation. In a kinetic (stiff) era, the suppression is much stronger, and drives the density perturbations to zero.
Brane dark energy cosmologies, leading to various possible evolutions of our universe, are investigated. The discussion shows that while all these models can be made arbitrarily close to the standard $Λ$CDM cosmology at present, their future evolutions can be very different, even diverge with time in a number of ways. This includes asymptotic de-Sitter evolution, Little Rip with dissolution of bound structures, and various possible singularities, as the Big Rip, a sudden future singularity (Type II), and Type III and Type IV cases. Specifically, some interesting effects coming from the brane t…
It is pointed out that in the warped string compactification, motion of anti-D-branes near the bottom of a throat behaves like dark matter. Several scenarios for production of the dark matter are suggested, including one based on the D/anti-D interaction at the late stage of D/anti-D inflation.
We give a simple interpretation of the recent solutions for cosmologies with a transient accelerating phase obtained from compactification in hyperbolic manifolds, or from S-brane solutions of string/M-theory. In the four-dimensional picture, these solutions correspond to bouncing the radion field off its exponential potential. Acceleration occurs at the turning point, when the radion stops and the potential energy momentarily dominates. The virtues and limitations of these approaches become quite transparent in this interpretation.
Recently, the self-tuning mechanism of cancellation of vacuum energy has been proposed in which our universe is a flat 3-brane in a 5-dimensional spacetime. In this letter, the self-tuning mechanism of dark energy is proposed by considering the cosmological matter in the brane world. In our model, the bulk scalar field takes the role of the dark energy and its value is slowly varying in time. The claim is that even if the enormous amount of vacuum energy exists on the brane we can adjust the present value of the dark energy to be consistent with the current observations. In this self-tuning me…
In the braneworld scenario, the four dimensional effective Einstein equation has extra terms which arise from the embedding of the 3-brane in the bulk. These non-local effects, generated by the free gravitational field of the bulk, may provide an explanation for the dynamics of the neutral hydrogen clouds at large distances from the galactic center, which is usually explained by postulating the existence of the dark matter. We obtain the exact galactic metric, the dark radiation and the dark pressure in the flat rotation curves region in the brane world scenario. Due to the presence of the bul…
We investigate whether dark matter can be replaced by various source terms appearing in the effective Einstein equation, valid on a brane embedded into a higher dimensional space-time (the bulk). Such non-conventional source terms include a quadratic (ordinary) matter source term, a geometric source term originating in the Weyl curvature of the bulk, a source term arising from the possible asymmetric embedding, and finally the pull-back to the brane of possible non-standard model bulk fields.
