We present the state of the art regarding the relation between the physics of Quantum Black Holes and Noncommutative Geometry. We start with a review of models proposed in the literature for describing deformations of General Relativity in the presence of noncommutativity, seen as an effective theory of Quantum Gravity. We study the resulting metrics, proposed to replace or at least to improve the conventional black hole solutions of Einstein's equation. In particular, we analyze noncommutative-inspired solutions obtained in terms of quasi-classical noncommutative coordinates: indeed because of their surprising new features, these solutions enable us to circumvent long standing problems with Quantum Field Theory in Curved Space and to cure the singular behavior of gravity at the centers of black holes. As a consequence, for the first time, we get a complete description of what we may call the black hole SCRAM, the shut down of the emission of thermal radiation from the black hole: in place of the conventional scenario of runaway evaporation in the Planck phase, we find a zero temperature final state, a stable black hole remnant, whose size and mass are determined uniquely in terms of the noncommutative parameter $θ$. This result turns out to be of vital importance for the physics of the forthcoming experiments at the LHC, where mini black hole production is foreseen in extreme energy hadron collisions. Because of this, we devote the final part of this review to higher dimensional solutions and their phenomenological implications for TeV Gravity.
In this letter, we consider dark matter annihilation in the gravitational field of noncommutative black holes. At final stage of evaporation, we hypothesize the existence of a thermal equilibrium state composed of a burning black hole relics fueled by dark matter accretion.
We analyze the fermionic quasinormal modes of the BTZ black hole in the presence of space-time noncommutativity. Our analysis exploits a duality between a spinless and spinning BTZ black hole, the spin being proportional to the noncommutative deformation parameter. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we show that the horizon temperatures obtained from the dual CFT pick up noncommutative contributions. We demonstrate the equivalence between the quasinormal and non-quasinormal modes for the noncommutative fermionic probes, which provides further evidence of holography in the noncommutative setting.…
We compare the effects of Noncommutative Geometry and Gravity's Rainbow on traversable wormholes which are sustained by their own gravitational quantum fluctuations. Fixing the geometry on a well tested model, we find that the final result shows that the wormhole is of the Planckian size. This means that the traversability of the wormhole is in principle, but not in practice.
We introduce the linear connection in the noncommutative geometry model of the product of continuous manifold and the discrete space of two points. We discuss its metric properties, define the metric connection and calculate the curvature. We define also the Ricci tensor and the scalar curvature. We find that the latter differs from the standard scalar curvature of the manifold by a term, which might be interpreted as the cosmological constant and apart from that we find no other dynamical fields in the model. Finally we discuss an example solution of flat linear connection, with the nontrivia…
In our previous work we have constructed a model of noncommutative (NC) gravity based on $SO(2,3)_\star$ gauge symmetry. In this paper we extend the model by adding matter fields: fermions and a $U(1)$ gauge field. Using the enveloping algebra approach and the Seiberg-Witten map we construct actions for these matter fields and expand the actions up to first order in the noncommutativity (deformation) parameter. Unlike in the case of pure NC gravity, first non-vanishing NC corrections are linear in the noncommutativity parameter. In the flat space-time limit we obtain a non-standard NC Electrod…
We formulate a noncommutative description of topological half-flat gravity in four dimensions. BRST symmetry of this topological gravity is deformed through a twisting of the usual BRST quantization of noncommutative gauge theories. Finally it is argued that resulting moduli space of instantons is characterized by the solutions of a noncommutative version of the Plebanski's heavenly equation.
Starting from a self-dual formulation of gravity, we obtain a noncommutative theory of pure Einstein theory in four dimensions. In order to do that, we use Seiberg-Witten map. It is shown that the noncommutative torsion constraint is solved by the vanishing of commutative torsion. Finally, the noncommutative corrections to the action are computed up to second order.
The volume of a black hole under noncommutative spacetime background is found to be infinite, in contradiction with the surface area of a black hole, or its Bekenstein-Hawking (BH) entropy, which is well-known to be finite. Our result rules out the possibility of interpreting the entropy of a black hole by counting the number of modes wrapped inside its surface if the final evaporation stage can be properly treated. It implies the statistical interpretation for the BH entropy can be independent of the volume, provided spacetime is noncommutative. The effect of radiation back reaction is found …
In this letter, firstly, the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equation on noncommutative phase space is given by using a generalized Bopp's shift. Then the anomaly term of commutator of arbitrary physical observable operators on noncommutative phase space is obtained. Finally, the basic uncertainty relations for space-space and space-momentum as well as momentum-momentum operators in noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM), and uncertainty relation for arbitrary physical observable operators in NCQM are discussed.
We review the effects of strong background fields in noncommutative QED. Beginning with the noncommutative Maxwell and Dirac equations, we describe how combined noncommutative and strong field effects modify the propagation of fermions and photons. We extend these studies beyond the case of constant backgrounds by giving a new and revealing interpretation of the photon dispersion relation. Considering scattering in background fields, we then show that the noncommutative photon is primarily responsible for generating deviations from strong field QED results. Finally, we propose a new method for…
We consider the idea of modeling a rotating acoustic black hole by an idealized draining bathtub vortex which is a planar circulating flow phenomenon with a sink at the origin. We find the acoustic metric for this phenomenon from a noncommutative Abelian Higgs model. As such the acoustic metric not only describes a rotating acoustic black hole but also inherits the noncommutative characteristic of the spacetime. We address the issues of superresonance and analogue Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect in this background. We mainly show that the scattering of planar waves by a draining bathtub vortex leads…
We emphasize the importance of the Voros product in defining noncommutative inspired black holes. The computation of entropy for both the noncommutative inspired Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes show that the area law holds upto order $\frac{1}{\sqrtθ}e^{-M^2/θ}$. The leading correction to the entropy (computed in the tunneling formalism) is shown to be logarithmic. The Komar energy $E$ for these black holes is then obtained and a deviation from the standard identity $E=2ST_H$ is found at the order $\sqrtθe^{-M^2/θ}$. This deviation leads to a nonvanishing Komar energy at the e…
We review recent developments of soliton theories and integrable systems on noncommutative spaces. The former part is a brief review of noncommutative gauge theories focusing on ADHM construction of noncommutative instantons. The latter part is a report on recent results of existence of infinite conserved quantities and exact multi-soliton solutions for noncommutative Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies. Some examples of noncommutative Ward's conjecture are also presented. Finally, we discuss future directions on noncommutative Sato's theories, twistor theories and so on.
The derivation of the full Standard Model from noncommutative geometry has been a promising sign for possible applications of the latter in High Energy Physics. Many believe, however, that the Standard Model cannot be the final answer. We translate several demands whose origin lies in physics to the context of noncommutative geometry and use these to put constraints on the fermionic content of models. We show that the Standard Model only satisfies these demands provided it has a right-handed neutrino in each 'generation'. Furthermore, we show that the demands can be met upon extending the SM w…
After recalling the basic concepts of gravity as an emergent phenomenon, we analyze the recent derivation of Newton's law in terms of entropic force proposed by Verlinde. By reviewing some points of the procedure, we extend it to the case of a generic quantum gravity entropic correction to get compelling deviations to the Newton's law. More specifically, we study: (1) noncommutative geometry deviations and (2) ungraviton corrections. As a special result in the noncommutative case, we find that the noncommutative character of the manifold would be equivalent to the temperature of a thermodynami…
In this letter we will dicuss the possibility of a resummation procedure in order to cure the UV/IR-mixing problem of noncommutative field theories. The method is presented for a scalar phi^4 theory on Euclidean space. Finally, we sketch the idea of resummation for U(1)-gauge theories.
We present a noncommutative extension of Einstein-Hilbert gravity in the context of twist-deformed space-time, with a $\star$-product associated to a quite general triangular Drinfeld twist. In particular the $\star$-product can be chosen to be the usual Groenewald-Moyal product. The action is geometric, invariant under diffeomorphisms and centrally extended Lorentz $\star$-gauge transformations. In the commutative limit it reduces to ordinary gravity, with local Lorentz invariance and usual real vielbein. This we achieve by imposing a charge conjugation condition on the noncommutative vielbei…
We derive the correction due to noncommutativity of space on Born approximation, then the correction for the case of Yukawa potential is explicitly calculated. The correction depends on the angle of scattering. Using partial wave method it is shown that the conservation of the number of particles in elastic scattering is also valid in noncommutative spaces which means that the unitarity relation is held in noncommutative spaces. We also show that the noncommutativity of space has no effect on the optical theorem. Finally we study Gaussian function potential in noncommutative spaces which gener…
We analyze the algebra of observables of a charged particle on a noncommutative torus in a constant magnetic field. We present a set of generators of this algebra which coincide with the generators for a commutative torus but at a different value of the magnetic field, and demonstrate the existence of a critical value of the magnetic field for which the algebra reduces. We then obtain the irreducible representations of the algebra and relate them to noncommutative bundles. Finally we comment on Landau levels, density of states and the critical case.
In this paper we investigate the problem of ordinary baryonic matter accretion onto the noncommutative geometry inspired Schwarzschild black hole. The fundamental equations governing the spherically symmetric steady state matter accretion are deduced. These equations are seen to be modified due to the presence of noncommutativity. The matter accretion rate is computed and is found to increase rapidly with the increase in strength of the noncommutative parameter. The sonic radius reduces while the sound speed at the sonic point increases with the increase in the strength of noncommutativity. Th…
We study properties of a scalar quantum field theory on the two-dimensional noncommutative plane with $E_q(2)$ quantum symmetry. We start from the consideration of a firstly quantized quantum particle on the noncommutative plane. Then we define quantum fields depending on noncommutative coordinates and construct a field theoretical action using the $E_q(2)$-invariant measure on the noncommutative plane. With the help of the partial wave decomposition we show that this quantum field theory can be considered as a second quantization of the particle theory on the noncommutative plane and that thi…
This thesis is designed for a comprehensive review of noncommutative (BPS) solitons with applications to D-brane dynamics including our works. We focus on noncommutative instantons and monopoles and study various aspects of the exact solutions by using Atiyah-Drinfeld-Hitchin-Manin (ADHM) and Nahm constructions. Finally we propose noncommutative extensions of integrable systems and soliton theories in lower dimensions in collaboration with Kouichi Toda, which would pioneer a new study area of integrable systems. Appendix is devoted to a brief and systematic review of formal aspects of ADHM/Nah…
This is an introduction to an algebraic construction of a gravity theory on noncommutative spaces which is based on a deformed algebra of (infinitesimal) diffeomorphisms. We start with some fundamental ideas and concepts of noncommutative spaces. Then the $θ$-deformation of diffeomorphisms is studied and a tensor calculus is defined. A deformed Einstein-Hilbert action invariant with respect to deformed diffeomorphisms is given. Finally, all noncommutative fields are expressed in terms of their commutative counterparts up to second order of the deformation parameter using the $\star$-product. T…
We present a unified approach to representations of quantum mechanics on noncommutative spaces with general constant commutators of phase-space variables. We find two phases and duality relations among them in arbitrary dimensions. Conditions for physical equivalence of different representations of a given system are analysed. Symmetries and classification of phase spaces are discussed. Specially, the dynamical symmetry of a physical system is investigated. Finally, we apply our analyses to the two-dimesional harmonic oscillator and the Landau problem.
In this paper, starting from the common foundation of Connes' noncommutative geometry (NCG) [1,2,3,4], various possible alternatives in the formulation of a theory of gravity in noncommutative spacetime are discussed in detail. The diversity in the final physical content of the theory is shown to the the consequence of the arbitrariness in each construction steps. As an alternative in the last step, when the staructure equations are to be solved, a minimal set of constraints on the torsion and connection is found to determine all the geometric notions in terms of metric. In the Connes-Lott mod…
The formulation of noncommutative quantum mechanics as a quantum system represented in the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators is used to systematically derive, using the standard time slicing procedure, the path integral action for a particle moving in the noncommutative plane and in the presence of a magnetic field and an arbitrary potential. Using this action, the equation of motion and the ground state energy for the partcle are obtained explicitly. The Aharonov-Bohm phase is derived using a variety of methods and several dualities between this system and other commutative and noncommutativ…
The presence of a constant background antisymmetric tensor for open strings or D-branes forces the space-time coordinates to be noncommutative. This effect is equivalent to replacing ordinary products in the effective theory by the deformed star product. An immediate consequence of this is that all fields get complexified. The only possible noncommutative Yang-Mills theory is the one with U(N) gauge symmetry. By applying this idea to gravity one discovers that the metric becomes complex. We show in this article that this procedure is completely consistent and one can obtain complexified gravit…
In this paper, the connection between the path integral representation of propagators in the coherent state basis with additional degrees of freedom \cite{rohwer} and the one without any such degrees of freedom \cite{sgfgs} is established. We further demonstrate that the path integral formalism developed in the noncommutative plane using the coherent state basis leads to a quantum mechanics involving a Chern-Simons term in momentum which is of noncommutative origin. The origin of this term from the Bopp-shift point of view is also investigated. A relativistic generalization of the action deriv…
We review the noncommutative approach to the standard model. We start with the introduction if the mathematical concepts necessary for the definition of noncommutative spaces, and manifold in particular. This defines the framework of spectral geometry. This is applied to the standard model of particle interaction, discussing the fermionic and bosonic spectral action. The issues relating to the calculation of the mass of the Higgs are discussed, as well as the role of neutrinos and Wick rotations. Finally, we present the possibility of solving the problem of the Higgs mass by considering a preg…
We consider systems of Dp branes in the presence of a nonzero B field. We study the corresponding supergravity solutions in the limit where the branes worldvolume theories decouple from gravity. These provide dual descriptions of large N noncommutative field theories. We analyse the phase structure of the theories and the validity of the different description. We provide evidence that in the presence of a nonzero B field the worldvolume theory of D6 branes decouples from gravity. We analyse the systems of M5 branes and NS5 branes in the presence of a nonzero C field and nonzero RR fields, resp…
We investigate the effects of space noncommutativity and the generalized uncertainty principle on the thermodynamics of a radiating Schwarzschild black hole. We show that evaporation process is in such a way that black hole reaches to a maximum temperature before its final stage of evolution and then cools down to a nonsingular remnant with zero temperature and entropy. We compare our results with more reliable results of string theory. This comparison Shows that GUP and space noncommutativity are similar concepts at least from view point of black hole thermodynamics.
We present new classes of exact solutions with noncommutative symmetries constructed in vacuum Einstein gravity (in general, with nonzero cosmological constant), five dimensional (5D) gravity and (anti) de Sitter gauge gravity. Such solutions are generated by anholonomic frame transforms and parametrized by generic off-diagonal metrics. For certain particular cases, the new classes of metrics have explicit limits with Killing symmetries but, in general, they may be characterized by certain anholonomic noncommutative matrix geometries. We argue that different classes of noncommutative symmetrie…
We introduce a matrix model for noncommutative gravity, based on the gauge group $U(2) \otimes U(2)$. The vierbein is encoded in a matrix $Y_μ$, having values in the coset space $U(4)/ (U(2) \otimes U(2))$, while the spin connection is encoded in a matrix $X_μ$, having values in $U(2) \otimes U(2)$. We show how to recover the Einstein equations from the $θ\to 0$ limit of the matrix model equations of motion. We stress the necessity of a metric tensor, which is a covariant representation of the gauge group in order to set up a consistent second order formalism. We finally define noncommutative …
We review here the construction of a translation-invariant scalar model which was proved to be perturbatively renormalizable on Moyal space. Some general considerations on nonlocal renormalizability are given. Finally, we present perspectives for generalizing these quantum field theoretical techniques to group field theory, a new setting for quantum gravity.
Nowadays, noncommutative geometry is a growing domain of mathematics, which can appear as a promising framework for modern physics. Quantum field theories on "noncommutative spaces" are indeed much investigated, and suffer from a new type of divergence called the ultraviolet-infrared mixing. However, this problem has recently been solved by H. Grosse and R. Wulkenhaar by adding to the action of a noncommutative scalar model a harmonic term, which renders it renormalizable. One aim of this thesis is the extension of this procedure to gauge theories on the Moyal space. Indeed, we have introduced…
