We theoretically investigate the effect of an anisotropic trap on the instability of the polar $(m_F=0)$ phase of a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate. By considering rigorously the spatial quantization, we show that the growth of the nascent ferromagnetic phase at short times becomes anisotropic with stronger oscillations in the magnetization correlation function along the unconfined direction.

Vortex splitting and phase separating instabilities of coreless vortices in F=1 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

The low lying excitations of coreless vortex states in F = 1 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) are theoretically investigated using the Gross-Pitaevskii and Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. The spectra of the elementary excitations are calculated for different spin-spin interaction parameters and ratios of the number of particles in each sublevel. There exist dynamical instabilities of the vortex state which are suppressed by ferromagnetic interactions, and conversely, enhanced by antiferromagnetic interactions. Roton softening and supersolidity in Rb spinor condensates

Superfluids with a tendency towards periodic crystalline order have both a phonon and roton like spectrum of collective modes. The softening of the roton spectrum provides one route to a supersolid. We show that roton softening occurs in 87Rb spinor condensates once dipolar interactions and spin dynamics are taken into account. By including the effects of a quasi-two-dimensional geometry and rapid Larmor precession, we show a dynamical instability develops in the collective mode spectrum at finite wavevectors. Domain-wall solutions of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice

We studied the static and dynamic domain wall solutions of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in an optical lattice. The single and double domain wall solutions are constructed analytically. Our results show that the magnetic field and light-induced dipolar interactions play an important role for both the formation of different domain walls and the adjusting of domain wall width and velocity. Polarized States and Domain Walls in Spinor Bose-Einstein Condensates

We study spin-polarized states and their stability in anti-ferromagnetic states of spinor (F=1) quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates. Using analytical approximations and numerical methods, we find various types of polarized states, including: patterns of the Thomas-Fermi type; structures with a pulse-shape in one component inducing a hole in the other components; states with holes in all three components; and domain walls. Continuous vortex pumping into a spinor condensate with magnetic fields

We study the mechanisms and the limits of pumping vorticity into a spinor condensate through manipulations of magnetic (B-) fields. We discover a fundamental connection between the geometrical properties of the magnetic fields and the quantized circulation of magnetically trapped atoms, a result which generalizes several recent experimental and theoretical studies. Multi-component gap solitons in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

We model the nonlinear behaviour of spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) with repulsive spin-independent interactions and either ferromagnetic or anti-ferromagnetic (polar) spin-dependent interactions, loaded into a one-dimensional optical lattice potential. We show that both types of BECs exhibit dynamical instabilities and may form spatially localized multi-component structures. Ultralong temporal coherence in optically trapped exciton-polariton condensates

We investigate an optically trapped exciton-polariton condensate and observe temporal coherence beyond 1~ns duration. Due to the reduction of the spatial overlap with the thermal reservoir of excitons, the coherence time of the trapped condensate is more than an order of magnitude longer than that of an untrapped condensate. Characteristic frequency of the magnetic radiation of spinor condensates

The magnetic radiation of the fully-condensed states of $^{23}$Na condensates have been studied. A narrow characteristic spectral line with a wave length proportional to N^(-2/5) (N is the number of particles) and with a probability of transition proportional to N^(17/5) emitted (absorbed) by the condensate was found. Stability of coreless vortices in ferromagnetic spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

We study the energetic and dynamic stability of coreless vortices in nonrotated spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates, trapped with a three-dimensional optical potential and a Ioffe-Pritchard field. Spontaneous spin bifurcations and ferromagnetic phase transitions in a spinor exciton-polariton condensate

We observe a spontaneous parity breaking bifurcation to a ferromagnetic state in a spatially trapped exciton-polariton condensate. At a critical bifurcation density under nonresonant excitation, the whole condensate spontaneously magnetizes and randomly adopts one of two elliptically polarized (up to 95% circularly-polarized) states with opposite handedness of polarization. Stability of dark solitons in a Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in an optical lattice

We investigate the stability of dark solitons (DSs) in an effectively one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of the magnetic parabolic trap and an optical lattice (OL). The analysis is based on both the full Gross-Pitaevskii equation and its tight-binding approximation counterpart (discrete nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation). Dynamical and energetic instabilities in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices

We study dynamical and energetic instabilities in the transport properties of Bloch waves for atomic multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices in the tight-binding limit. Elementary Excitations of a Bose-Einstein Condensate in an Effective Magnetic Field

We calculate the low energy elementary excitations of a Bose-Einstein Condensate in an effective magnetic field. The field is created by the interplay between light beams carrying orbital angular momentum and the trapped atoms. We examine the role of the homogeneous magnetic field, familiar from studies of rotating condensates, and also investigate spectra for vector potentials with a more general radial dependence. We discuss the instabilities which arise and how these may be manifested.
