We classify a certain class of minimal actions of a compact Kac algebra with amenable dual on injective factors of type III. Our main technical tools are the structural analysis of type III factors and the theory of canonical extension of endomorphisms introduced by Izumi.
We classify outer actions (or $\mathscr{G}$-kernels) of discrete amenable groupoids on injective factors. Our method based on unified approach for classification of discrete amenable groups actions, and cohomology reduction theorem of discrete amenable equivalence relations. We do not use Katayama-Takesaki type resolution group approach.
We present a simple unified proof of classification of discrete amenable group actions on injective factors. Our argument does not depend on types of factors. We also show the second cohomology vanishing theorem for arbitrary cocycle crossed actions of discrete amenable groups on the injective factor of type II$_1$.
We will study two kinds of actions of a discrete amenable Kac algebra. The first one is an action whose modular part is normal. We will construct a new invariant which generalizes a characteristic invariant for a discrete group action, and we will present a complete classification. The second is a centrally free action. By constructing a Rohlin tower in an asymptotic centralizer, we will show that the Connes-Takesaki module is a complete invariant.
We show the uniqueness of minimal actions of a compact Kac algebra with amenable dual on the AFD factor of type II$_1$. This particularly implies the uniqueness of minimal actions of a compact group. Our main tools are a Rohlin type theorem, the 2-cohomology vanishing theorem, and the Evans-Kishimoto type intertwining argument.
By giving an interesting characterisation of amenable multiplicative unitaries in term of one dimensional representations, we show in a simple way that bicrossproducts of amenable locally compact groups is both amenable and coamenable.
In this paper, we generalize Izumi's result on uniqueness of realization of finite C$^*$-tensor categories in the endomorphism category of the injective factor of type II_1 for finitely generated strongly amenable C$^*$-tensor categories by applying Popa's classification theorem of strongly amenable subfactors of type III_1.
We apply the Evans-Kishimoto type argument for centrally free actions of discrete amenable groups on McDuff factors, and classify them. Especially, we present a different proof that the Connes-Takesaki modules are complete cocycle conjugacy invariants for centrally free actions of discrete amenable groups on injective factors.
We prove that the $L^1$-algebra of any non-Kac type compact quantum group does not satisfy operator biflatness. Since operator amenability implies operator biflatness, this result shows that any co-amenable, non-Kac type compact quantum group gives a counter example to the conjecture that $L^1(\Gb)$ is operator amenable if and only if $\Gb$ is amenable and co-amenable for any locally compact quantum group $\Gb$. The result also implies that the $L^1$-algebra of a locally compact quantum group is operator biprojective if and only if $\Gb$ is compact and of Kac type.
We introduce an equivariant version of the weak expectation property (WEP) at the level of operator modules over completely contractive Banach algebras $A$. We prove a number of general results---for example, a characterization of the $A$-WEP in terms of an appropriate $A$-injective envelope, and also a characterization of those $A$ for which $A$-WEP implies WEP. In the case of $A=L^1(G)$, we recover the $G$-WEP for $G$-$C^*$-algebras in recent work of Buss--Echterhoff--Willett. When $A=A(G)$, we obtain a dual notion for operator modules over the Fourier algebra. These dual notions are related…
This paper is motivated primarily by the question of when the maximal and reduced crossed products of a $G$-$C^*$-algebra agree (particularly inspired by results of Matsumura and Suzuki), and the relationships with various notions of amenability and injectivity. We give new connections between these notions. Key tools in this include the natural equivariant analogues of injectivity, and of Lance's weak expectation property: we also give complete characterizations of these equivariant properties, and some connections with injective envelopes in the sense of Hamana.
In this paper, we give another two characterizations of relative amenability on finite von Neumann algebras, one of which can be thought of as an analogue of injective operator systems. As an application, we prove a stable property of relative amenable inclusions. We prove that under certain assumptions, the inclusion $N=\int_{X} \bigoplus N_{p} d μ\subset M=\int_{X} \bigoplus M_{p} d μ$ is amenable if and only if $N_p\subset M_p$ is amenable almost everywhere.
We define the Furstenberg boundary of a locally compact Hausdorff étale groupoid, generalising the Furstenberg boundary for discrete groups, by providing a construction of a groupoid-equivariant injective envelope. Using this injective envelope, we establish the absence of recurrent amenable subgroups in the isotropy as a sufficient criterion for the intersection property of a locally compact Hausdorff étale groupoid with compact unit space and no fixed points. This yields a criterion for C*-simplicity of minimal groupoids.
A well-known theorem of Day and Dixmier states that any uniformly bounded representation of an amenable locally compact group $G$ on a Hilbert space is similar to a unitary representation. Within the category of locally compact quantum groups, the conjectural analogue of the Day-Dixmier theorem is that every completely bounded Hilbert space representation of the convolution algebra of an amenable locally compact quantum group should be similar to a $\ast$-representation. We prove that this conjecture is false for a large class of non-Kac type compact quantum groups, including all $q$-deformati…
We introduce an appropriate notion of inner amenability for locally compact quantum groups, study its basic properties, related notions, and examples arising from the bicrossed product construction. We relate these notions to homological properties of the dual quantum group, which allow us to generalize a well-known result of Lau--Paterson, resolve a recent conjecture of Ng--Viselter, and prove that, for inner amenable quantum groups $\mathbb{G}$, approximation properties of the dual operator algebras can be averaged to approximation properties $\mathbb{G}$. Similar homological techniques are …
We examine rigidity phenomena for representations of amenable operator algebras which have an ideal of compact operators. We establish that a generalized version of Kadison's conjecture on completely bounded homomorphisms holds for the algebra if the associated quotient is abelian. We also prove that injective completely bounded representations of the algebra are similar to complete isometries. The main motivating example for these investigations is the recent construction of Choi, Farah and Ozawa of an amenable operator algebra that is not similar to a $C^*$-algebra, and we show how it fits i…
A topological group $G$ is called extremely amenable if every continuous action of $G$ on a compact space has a fixed point. This concept is linked with geometry of high dimensions (concentration of measure). We show that a von Neumann algebra is approximately finite-dimensional if and only if its unitary group with the strong topology is the product of an extremely amenable group with a compact group, which strengthens a result by de la Harpe. As a consequence, a $C^\ast$-algebra $A$ is nuclear if and only if the unitary group $U(A)$ with the relative weak topology is strongly amenable in the…
Let $G$ be a co-amenable compact quantum group. We show that a right coideal of $G$ is of quotient type if and only if it is the range of a conditional expectation preserving the Haar state and is globally invariant under the left action of the dual discrete quantum group. We apply this result to theory of Poisson boundaries introduced by Izumi for discrete quantum groups and generalize a work of Izumi-Neshveyev-Tuset on $SU_q(N)$ for co-amenable compact quantum groups with the commutative fusion rules. More precisely, we prove that the Poisson integral is an isomorphism between the Poisson bo…
For any injective von Neumann algebra R and any discrete, countable group G, which acts by *-automorphisms on R, we construct an idempotent mapping of an ultra-weakly dense subspace of B(H) onto the reducerd crossed product von Neumann algebra, such that it is R-bimodular and satisfies some nice relations with respect to positivity. In the case of an amenable group our unbounded expectation turns into a usual conditional expectation of norm 1.
Building on our previous work, we study the non-relative homology of quantum group convolution algebras. Our main result establishes the equivalence of amenability of a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ and 1-injectivity of $L^{\infty}(\widehat{\mathbb{G}})$ as an operator $L^1(\widehat{\mathbb{G}})$-module. In particular, a locally compact group $G$ is amenable if and only if its group von Neumann algebra $VN(G)$ is 1-injective as an operator module over the Fourier algebra $A(G)$. As an application, we provide a decomposability result for completely bounded $L^1(\widehat{\mathbb{G}}…
Let G be a locally compact topological group and X a compact space with continuous G-action. The main result of this essay states that the following statements are equivalent : 1) The action of G on X is topologically amenable ; 2) Every dual (G, X)-module of type C is a relatively injective Banach G-module ; 3) There is a G-invariant element in the double dual of C(X, L1(G)).

We prove Khintchine type inequalities for words of a fixed length in a reduced free product of $C^*$-algebras (or von Neumann algebras). These inequalities imply that the natural projection from a reduced free product onto the subspace generated by the words of a fixed length $d$ is completely bounded with norm depending linearly on $d$. We then apply these results to various approximation properties on reduced free products. As a first application, we give a quick proof of Dykema's theorem on the stability of exactness under the reduced free product for $C^*$-algebras. We next study the stabi…
For $p\in [1,\infty)$ we study representations of a locally compact group $G$ on $L^p$-spaces and $QSL^p$-spaces. The universal completions $F^p(G)$ and $F^p_{\mathrm{QS}}(G)$ of $L^1(G)$ with respect to these classes of representations (which were first considered by Phillips and Runde, respectively), can be regarded as analogs of the full group \ca{} of $G$ (which is the case $p=2$). We study these completions of $L^1(G)$ in relation to the algebra $F^p_λ(G)$ of $p$-pseudofunctions. We prove a characterization of group amenability in terms of certain canonical maps between these universal Ba…
This paper concerns the study of regular Fourier hypergroups through multipliers of their associated Fourier algebras. We establish hypergroup analogues of well-known characterizations of group amenability, introduce a notion of weak amenability for hypergroups, and show that every discrete commutative hypergroup is weakly amenable with constant 1. Using similar techniques, we provide a sufficient condition for amenability of hypergroup Fourier algebras, which, as an immediate application, answers one direction of a conjecture of Azimifard--Samei--Spronk [J. Funct. Anal. 256(5) 1544-1564, 2009…
We initiate the study of a new notion of duality defined with respect to the module Haagerup tensor product. This notion not only recovers the standard operator space dual for Hilbert $C^*$-modules, it also captures quantum group duality in a fundamental way. We compute the so-called Haagerup dual for various operator algebras arising from $\ell^p$ spaces. In particular, we show that the dual of $\ell^1$ under any operator space structure is $\min\ell^\infty$. In the setting of abstract harmonic analysis we generalize a result of Varopolous by showing that $C(\mathbb{G})$ is an operator algebr…
Unifying two notions of an action and coaction of a locally compact group on a $C^*$-cor\-re\-spond\-ence we introduce a coaction $(σ,δ)$ of a Hopf $C^*$-algebra $S$ on a $C^*$-cor\-re\-spond\-ence $(X,A)$. We show that this coaction naturally induces a coaction $ζ$ of $S$ on the associated Cuntz-Pimsner algebra $\mathcal{O}_X$ under the weak $δ$-invariancy for the ideal $J_X$. When the Hopf $C^*$-algebra $S$ is defined by a well-behaved multiplicative unitary, we construct a $C^*$-cor\-re\-spond\-ence $(X\rtimes_σ\widehat{S},A\rtimes_δ\widehat{S})$ from $(σ,δ)$ and show that it has a represen…
Given a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb G$, we study the structure of completely bounded homomorphisms $π:L^1(\mathbb G)\rightarrow\mathcal B(H)$, and the question of when they are similar to $\ast$-homomorphisms. By analogy with the cocommutative case (representations of the Fourier algebra $A(G)$), we are led to consider the associated map $π^*:L^1_\sharp(\mathbb G) \rightarrow \mathcal B(H)$ given by $π^*(ω) = π(ω^\sharp)^*$. We show that the corepresentation $V_π$ of $L^\infty(\mathbb G)$ associated to $π$ is invertible if and only if both $π$ and $π^*$ are completely bounded. Moreo…
