The temperature dependence of the generation linewidth for an auto-oscillator with a nonlinear frequency shift is calculated. It is shown that the frequency nonlinearity creates a finite correlation time, tau, for the phase fluctuations. In the low-temperature limit in which the spectral linewidth is smaller than 1/tau, the line shape is approximately Lorentzian and the linewidth is linear in temperature. In the opposite high-temperature limit in which the linewidth is larger than 1/tau, the nonlinearity leads to an apparent "inhomogeneous broadening" of the line, which becomes Gaussian in shape and has a square-root dependence on temperature. The results are illustrated for the spin-torque nano-oscillator.
We demonstrate a high-quality spin orbit torque nano-oscillator comprised of spin wave modes confined by the magnetic field by the strongly inhomogeneous dipole field of a nearby micromagnet. This approach enables variable spatial confinement and systematic tuning of magnon spectrum and spectral separations for studying the impact of multi-mode interactions on auto-oscillations. We find these dipole field-localized spin wave modes exhibit good characteristic properties as auto-oscillators--narrow linewidth and large amplitude--while persisting up to room temperature. We find that the linewidth…
Spintronic nano-oscillators with reduced non-linearity could offer key benefits for realizing neuromorphic applications such as spike-based neurons and frequency multiplexing in neural networks. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the reduction in non-linearity of a spin-Hall nano-oscillator (SHNO) by compensation of its effective magnetic anisotropy. The study involves optimization of Co/Ni multilayer growth to achieve the compensation, followed by spin diode measurements on patterned microstrips to quantify their anisotropy. The relation between the second ($H_{k2}$ = 0.47 mT) and the first …
In this work we focus on magnetic relaxation in Mn$_{80}$Ir$_{20}$(12 nm)/ Cu(6 nm)/ Py($d_\mathrm{F}$) antiferromagnet/Cu/ferromagnet (AFM/Cu/FM) multilayers with different thickness of the ferromagnetic permalloy layer. An effective FM-AFM interaction mediated via the conduction electrons in the nonmagnetic Cu spacer -- the spin-pumping effect -- is detected as an increase in the linewidth of the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectra and a shift of the resonant magnetic field. We further find experimentally that the spin-pumping-induced contribution to the linewidth is inversely proportional…
We studied the optical properties of a resonantly excited trivalent Er ensemble in Si accessed via in situ single photon detection. A novel approach which avoids nanofabrication on the sample is introduced, resulting in a highly efficient detection of 70 excitation frequencies, of which 63 resonances have not been observed in literature. The center frequencies and optical lifetimes of all resonances have been extracted, showing that 5% of the resonances are within 1 GHz of our electrically detected resonances and that the optical lifetimes range from 0.5 ms up to 1.5 ms. We observed inhomogene…
