The most recent results from direct searches for dark matter particles in the galactic halo are examined in terms of an effective Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model at the electroweak scale without gaugino masses unification. We show that the annual modulation effect at 8.2 $σ$ C.L. recently presented by the DAMA Collaboration, as the result of a combined analysis of the DAMA/NaI and the DAMA/LIBRA experiments for a total exposure of 0.82 ton yr, fits remarkably well with what expected for relic neutralinos for a wide variety of WIMP distribution functions. Bounds derivable from other measurements of direct searches for dark matter particles are analyzed. We stress the role played by the uncertainties affecting the neutralino--quark couplings arising from the involved hadronic quantities. We also examine how present data on cosmic antiprotons can help in constraining the neutralino configurations selected by the DAMA effect, in connection with the values of the astrophysical parameters.
Perspectives for measurement of antideuterons possibly produced in the galactic halo by self--annihilation of neutralinos belonging to the DAMA configurations are examined. Finally, we discuss how findings at LHC would impact on these issues.
We examine the properties of relic neutralinos in the regions of the parameter space selected by recent fits to all the electroweak observables within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We discuss the relic neutralino cosmic abundance and the direct detection rates for these most likely supersymmetric configurations. We employ the relevant experimental bounds to constrain the set of the best-fit configurations and discuss the discovery potential of the direct search for relic neutralinos.
Phenomenology of relic neutralinos is analyzed in an effective supersymmetric scheme at the electroweak scale. It is shown that current direct experiments for WIMPs, when interpreted in terms of relic neutralinos, are indeed probing regions of supersymmetric parameter space compatible with all present experimental bounds.
Theoretical expectations for direct and indirect searches for relic neutralinos are presented. Complementarity among various investigation means is discussed in connection with the values of the neutralino relic abundance.
In the frame of an effective MSSM model without gaugino-mass unification at a grand unification (GUT) scale, we set a lower bound on the neutralino mass based on the new WMAP data on $Ω_{CDM}$. Our lower bound, $m_χ \gsim 6$ GeV, leaves much room for relic neutralinos significantly lighter than those commonly considered ($m_χ \gsim 50$ GeV). We prove that these light neutralinos may produce measurable effects in WIMP direct detection experiments of low energy threshold and large exposure.
We evaluate the relic density of neutralinos in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. All 2-->2 neutralino annihilation diagrams, as well as all processes involving sleptons, charginos, neutralinos and third generation squarks are included. Relativistic thermal averaging of the velocity times cross sections is performed. We find that co-annihilation effects are only important on the edges of the model parameter space, where some amount of fine-tuning is necessary to obtain a reasonable relic density. Alternatively, at high tan(beta), annihilation through very broad Higgs resonances gives ri…
Neutrino telescopes of large area offer the possibility of searching for indirect signals of relic neutralinos in the galactic halo, due to annihilations in the Sun or the Earth. Here we investigate the sensitivity, using a supergravity scheme where the soft scalar mass terms are not constrained by universality conditions at the grand unification scale. We first discuss in which regions of the supersymmetric parameter space the neutralino may be considered as a good candidate for cold dark matter. The discovery potential of the search using neutrino telescopes is then compared to that of the d…
We point out that if the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is a Higgsino- or Wino-like neutralino, the net effect of coannihilations with sleptons is to increase the relic abundance, rather than producing the usual suppression, which takes place if the LSP is Bino-like. The reason for the enhancement lies in the effective thermally averaged cross section at freeze-out: sleptons annihilate (and co-annihilate) less efficiently than the neutralino(s)-chargino system, therefore slepton coannihilations effectively act as parasite degrees of freedom at freeze-out. Henceforth, the thermal relic …
The thermal relic abundance of species critically depends on the assumed underlying cosmological model. In the case of neutralinos, freeze-out takes place long before Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, which provides the strongest constraint on the evolution of the Hubble parameter in the Early Universe. We show that non-standard cosmologies, such as models featuring a quintessential scalar field or primordial anisotropies, can lead to large enhancements in the neutralino relic abundance, up to six orders of magnitudes. Within these scenarios, supersymmetric models with large neutralino annihilation cr…
We evaluate the relic density of the lightest neutralino, the lightest supersymmetric particle, in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). For the first time, we include all coannihilation processes between neutralinos and charginos for any neutralino mass and composition. We use the most sophisticated routines for integrating the cross sections and the Boltzmann equation. We properly treat (sub)threshold and resonant annihilations. We also include one-loop corrections to neutralino masses. We find that coannihilation processes are important not only for light higgsi…
We compute the neutralino relic density in the minimal supersymmetric standard model by using exact expressions for the neutralino annihilation cross section into all tree-level final states, including all contributions and interference terms. We find that several final states may give comparable contributions to the relic density, which illustrates the importance of performing a complete calculation. We compare the exact results with those of the usual expansion method and demonstrate a sizeable discrepancy (of more than 10%) over a significant range of the neutralino mass of up to several te…
We discuss the effect induced on the neutralino-nucleon scalar cross-section by the present uncertainties in the values of the quark masses and of the quark scalar densities in the nucleon. We examine the implications of this aspect on the determination of the neutralino cosmological properties, as derived from measurements of WIMP direct detection. We show that, within current theoretical uncertainties, the DAMA annual modulation data are compatible with a neutralino as a major dark matter component, to an extent which is even larger than the one previously derived.
We examine the current state of neutralino dark matter and consider how the LEP constraints on the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model parameters are squeezing the available dark matter regions. We also show how cosmological constraints augment bounds coming from collider searches to further constrain the MSSM parameter space.
Recent results of the DAMA/NaI experiment for WIMP direct detection point to a possible annual modulation effect in the detection rate. We show that these results, when interpreted in terms of a relic neutralino, are compatible with supergravity models. Together with the universal SUGRA scheme, we also consider SUGRA models where the unification condition in the Higgs mass parameters at GUT scale is relaxed.
Neutralinos arise as natural dark matter candidates in many supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. We present a novel calculation of the neutralino relic abundance in which we include all so called coannihilation processes between neutralinos, charginos and sfermions, and, at the same time, we apply the state of the art technique to trace the freeze-out of a species in the early Universe. As a first application, we discuss here results valid in the mSUGRA framework; we enlight general trends as well as perform a detailed study of the neutralino relic densities in the mSUGRA parameter…
We analyze the annual-modulation effect, measured by the DAMA Collaboration with the new implementation of a further two-years running, in the context of a possible interpretation in terms of relic neutralinos. We impose over the set of supersymmetric configurations, selected by the annual-modulation data, the constraints derived from WIMP indirect measurements, and discuss the features of the ensuing relic neutralinos. We critically discuss the sources of the main theoretical uncertainties in the analysis of event rates for direct and indirect WIMP searches.
A scenario of the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis is analyzed within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model which is consistent with a stau-neutralino coannihilation scenario to explain the relic abundance of dark matter. We find that we can account for the possible descrepancy of the abundance of $\mathrm{^{7}Li}$ between the observation and the prediction of the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis by taking the mass of the neutralino as $300 \mathrm{GeV}$ and the mass difference between the stau and the neutralino as $(100 -- 120) MeV$. We can therefore simultaneously explain the abundance of the dark matt…
We discuss the effect induced on the neutralino-nucleon cross-section by the present uncertainties in the values of the quark masses and of the quark scalar densities in the nucleon. We also comment on implications o…
We extend previous analyses on the interplay between nonuniversalities in the gaugino mass sector and the thermal relic densities of LSP neutralinos, in particular to the case of moderate to large tan beta. We introduce a set of parameters that generalizes the standard unified scenario to cover the complete allowed parameter space in the gaugino mass sector. We discuss the physical significance of the cosmologically preferred degree of degeneracy between charginos and the LSP and study the effect this degree of degeneracy has on the prospects for direct detection of relic neutralinos in the ne…
We calculate the relic density of dark matter in the MSSM with CP violation. We analyse various scenarios of neutralino annihilation: the cases of a bino, bino-wino and bino-Higgsino LSP, annihilation through Higgs, as well as sfermion coannihilation scenarios. Large phase effects are found, on the one hand due to shifts in the masses, on the other hand due to modifications of the couplings. Taking special care to disentangle the effects in masses and couplings, we demonstrate that the presence of CP phases can have a significant influence on the neutralino relic abundance. Typical variations …
We enlarge our set of supersymmetric models and update accelerator constraints in our precise calculation of the relic density of the lightest neutralino, which includes relativistic Boltzmann averaging, subthreshold and resonant annihilations, and coannihilation processes among charginos and neutralinos.
We give an overview of our precise calculation of the relic density of the lightest neutralino, in which we included relativistic Boltzmann averaging, subthreshold and resonant annihilations, and coannihilation processes with charginos and neutralinos.
The thermal relic density of the neutralino dark matter in the brane world cosmology is studied. Since the expansion law at a high energy regime in the brane world cosmology is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, the resultant relic density can be altered. It has been found that, if the five dimensional Planck mass $M_5$ is lower than $10^4$ TeV, the brane world cosmological effect is significant at the decoupling time and the resultant relic density is enhanced. We calculate the neutralino relic density in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) and show tha…
It has been conjectured by Ambrosanio, Kane, Kribs, Martin and Mrenna (AKM) that the CDF event $p \bar p \to e^+ e^- γγ+ missing E_T$ is due to a decay chain involving two neutralino states (the lightest and the next-to-lightest ones). The lightest neutralino ($χ_{AKM}$) has been further considered by Kane and Wells as a candidate for cold dark matter. In this paper we examine the properties of relic $χ_{AKM}$'s in their full parameter space, and examine the perspectives for detection by comparing theoretical predictions to sensitivities of various experimental searches. We find that for most …
The relic abundance and the scalar cross-section off nucleon for light neutralinos (of mass below about 45 GeV) are evaluated in an effective MSSM model without GUT-inspired relations among gaugino masses. It is shown that these neutralinos may provide a sizeable contribution to the matter density in the Universe and produce measurable effects in WIMP direct detection experiments. These properties are elucidated in terms of simple analytical arguments.
We study the neutralino relic density and the neutralino-proton elastic scattering cross sections in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with CP-violating phases. We include all the final states to the neutralino pair annihilation cross section at the tree level, taking into account the mixing between the CP-even and CP-odd neutral Higgs fields. We show that variations of the relic density and the elastic scattering cross sections with the CP-violating phases are significant. In particular, interferences between the major contributions in the neutralino annihilation cross section …
If the energy density of the Universe before nucleosynthesis is dominated by a scalar field phi that decays and reheats the plasma to a temperature T_{RH} smaller than the standard neutralino freeze out temperature, the neutralino relic density differs from its standard value. In this case, the relic density depends on two additional parameters: T_{RH}, and the number of neutralinos produced per phi decay per unit mass of the phi field. In this paper, we numerically study the neutralino relic density as a function of these reheating parameters within minimal supersymmetric standard models and …
We discuss ILC measurements for a specific MSSM scenario with CP phases, where the lightest neutralino, a candidate for dark matter, annihilates through t-channel exchange of light staus. These prospective ILC measurements are used to fit the underlying model parameters. A collider prediction of the relic density of the neutralino from this fit gives 0.116<Omega h2<0.19 at 95%CL.
We evaluate the relic density of neutralinos in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. All 2->2 neutralino annihilation diagrams, as well as all initial states involving sleptons, charginos, neutralinos and third generation squarks are included. Relativistic thermal averaging of the velocity times cross sections is performed. We find that co-annihilation effects are only important on the edges of the model parameter space, where some amount of fine-tuning is necessary to obtain a reasonable relic density. We discuss the lower bound to the lightest Higgs boson H_1 in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) with explicit CP violation, and the phenomenology of the lightest relic neutralino in the same scenario. In particular, adopting the CPX benchmark scenario, we find that the combination of experimental constraints coming from LEP, Thallium Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) measurements, quorkonium decays, and B_s -> mu mu decay favours a region of the parameter space where the mass of H_1 is in the range 7 GeV < M_{H_1} < 10 GeV, while 3 < tan(beta) < 5. Assuming a departu…
We investigate SU(5) and SO(10) GUTs with vanishing scalar masses and trilinear scalar couplings at a scale higher than the unification scale. The parameter space of the models, further constrained by b-τYukawa coupling unification, consists of a common gaugino mass and of \tanβ. We analyze the low energy phenomenology, finding that A-pole annihilations of neutralinos and/or coannihilations with the lightest stau drive the relic density within the cosmologically preferred range in a significant region of the allowed parameter space. Implications for neutralino direct detection and for CERN LHC…
The neutralino relic abundance is evaluated for a wide range of the neutralino mass, ${\rm 20\ GeV} \leq m_χ\leq {\rm 1\ TeV}$, by taking into account the full set of final states in the neutralino-neutralino annihilation. The analysis is performed in the Minimal SuSy Standard Model; it is not restricted by stringent GUT assumptions but only constrained by present experimental bounds. We also discuss phenomenological aspects which are employed in the companion paper (II. Direct Detection) where the chances for a successful search for dark matter neutralino are investigated.
After a short introduction on particle candidates for dark matter within possible extensions of the standard model, we concentrate on Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, and on one of their most interesting physical realizations: the neutralino. We analyze how detectability of relic neutralinos by direct and indirect means is related to their local and cosmological densities; we use simple general arguments to discusss different scenarios where relic neutralinos make up the dominant bulk of dark matter or only a small fraction of it. Our general arguments are further corroborated by specific…
In this work, we analyze the electroweak loop corrections to the Neutralino dark matter relic density in the framework of effective coupling. In the first part, we comment on the generic features of the corrections and quantitative changes to the predicted relic density. We analyze the correlation between the characteristics of effective couplings to the nature of neutralino. Effective couplings, however, absorb only the most dominant one loop corrections and are not an exact calculation. In the second part, we assess the validity of effective couplings by comparing them to the full one loop c…
We study precise calculation of neutralino relic density in the minimal supergravity model. We compare the exact formula for the thermal average of the neutralino annihilation cross section times relative velocity with the expansion formula in terms of the temperature, including all the contributions to neutralino annihilation cross section analytically. We confirm that the expansion formula fails badly near s-channel poles. We show that the expansion method causes 5-10 % error even far away from the poles.
Many models possess unwanted relics, which should be diluted by entropy production just before the big-bang nucleosynthesis. A field responsible for the entropy production may produce stable weakly interacting massive particles, if kinematically accessible. We compute their relic abundances by integrating out coupled equations numerically. Applying our results to supersymmetric standard models, we argue that the neutralino lightest superparticles will overclose the universe in most of the parameter space if the reheat temperature is of the order of 10 MeV.
We study supersymmetric dark matter in the general flavor diagonal MSSM by means of an extensive random scan of its parameter space. We find that, in contrast with the standard mSUGRA lore, the large majority of viable models features either a higgsino or a wino-like lightest neutralino, and yields a relic abundance well below the WMAP bound. Among the models with neutralino relic density within the WMAP range, higgsino-like neutralinos are still dominant, though a sizeable fraction of binos is also present. In this latter case, relic density suppression mechanisms are shown to be essential in…
New upper bounds on direct detection rates have recently been presented by a number of experimental collaborations working on searches for WIMPs. In this paper we analyze how the constraints on relic neutralinos which can be derived from these results is affected by the uncertainties in the distribution function of WIMPs in the halo. Various different categories of velocity distribution functions are considered, and the ensuing implications for supersymmetric configurations derived. We conservatively conclude that current experimental data do not constrain neutralinos of small mass (below 50 G…
We analyse the relic neutralino density in supersymmetric models with an intermediate unification scale. In particular, we present concrete cosmological scenarios where the reheating temperature is as small as $\cal{O}$ $1 - 1000$ MeV). When this temperature is associated to the decay of moduli fields producing neutralinos, we show that the relic abundance increases considerably with respect to the standard thermal production. Thus the neutralino becomes a good dark matter candidate with $0.1\lsim Ωh^2 \lsim 0.3$, even for regions of the parameter space where large neutralino-nucleon cross sec…
The lightest neutralino is a compelling candidate to account for cold dark matter in the universe in supersymmetric theories with $R$--parity. In the CP-invariant theory, the neutralino relic density can be found in accord with recent WMAP data if neutralino annihilation in the early universe occurs via the s-channel $A$ funnel. In contrast, in the CP-noninvariant theory two heavy neutral Higgs bosons can contribute to the Higgs funnel mechanism significantly due to a CP-violating {\it complex} mixing between two heavy states, in particular, when they are almost degenerate. With a simple analy…
We present a complete phenomenological prospectus for thermal relic neutralinos. Including Sommerfeld enhancements to relic abundance and halo annihilation calculations, we obtain direct, indirect, and collider discovery prospects for all neutralinos with mass parameters $M_1,M_2,|μ| < 4$ TeV, that freeze out to the observed dark matter abundance, with scalar superpartners decoupled. Much of the relic neutralino sector will be uncovered by the direct detection experiments Xenon1T and LZ, as well as indirect detection with CTA. We emphasize that thermal relic higgsinos will be found by next-gen…
We have calculated the full O(alpha_s) supersymmetric QCD corrections to neutralino-stop co-annihilation into electroweak vector and Higgs bosons within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We performed a parameter study within the phenomenological MSSM and demonstrated that the studied co-annihilation processes are phenomenologically relevant, especially in the context of a 126 GeV Higgs-like particle. By means of an example scenario we discuss the effect of the full next-to-leading order corrections on the co-annihilation cross section and show their impact on the predicted neut…
Neutralino dark matter is studied in the context of a supergravity scheme where the scalar mass terms are not constrained by universality conditions at the grand unification scale. We analyse in detail the consequences of the relaxation of this universality assumption on the supersymmetric parameter space, on the neutralino relic abundance and on the event rate for the direct detection of relic neutralinos.
We study properties of the lightest neutralino (χ) and calculate its cosmological relic density in a supersymmetric U(1)' model with a secluded U(1)' breaking sector (the S-model). The lightest neutralino mass is smaller than in the minimal supersymmetric standard model; for instance, m_χ< 100 GeV in the limit that the U(1)' gaugino mass is large compared to the electroweak scale. We find that the Z-χ-χcoupling can be enhanced due to the singlino components in the extended neutralino sector. Neutralino annihilation through the Z-resonance then reproduces the measured cold dark matter density o…
We present a complete calculation of the QCD and SUSY-QCD corrections to neutralino pair annihilation into bottom quark-antiquark pairs through exchange of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson, which is the dominant process in the cosmological A-funnel region of the mSUGRA model. We present numerical predictions for the annihilation cross section and discuss the influence of the correction terms on the cold dark matter relic density with respect to recent cosmological data.
We show that a supersymmetric neutral Higgs boson with a mass of about 115 GeV and with the other prerequisites required by the LEP Higgs events would be compatible with the detection of relic neutralinos in current set-ups for WIMP direct search. Thus this putative Higgs would fit remarkably well in an interpretation in terms of relic neutralinos of the annual-modulation effect recently measured in a WIMP direct experiment. We also show that the cosmological abundance of the relevant neutralinos reaches values of cosmological interest.
We evaluate the antiproton--to--proton flux ratio which can be generated by neutralino--neutralino annihilation in the galactic halo, considering the most general compositions for the relic neutralinos and modelling the neutralino local density according to its relic abundance. We find that in the case of mixed neutralino compositions this $\bar p/p$ ratio is higher than for pure higgsinos or gauginos. It is shown how the expected improvements in sensitivity for the new measurements of the $\bar p/p$ may provide very useful information, complementary to the one obtainable with other experiment…
We investigate the prospects of indirect searches for supersymmetric neutralino dark matter. Relic neutralinos gravitationally accumulate in the Sun and their annihilations produce high energy neutrinos. Muon neutrinos of this origin can be seen in large detectors like AMANDA, IceCube and ANTARES. We evaluate the relic density and the detection rate in several models---the minimal supersymmetric model, minimal supergravity, and supergravity with non-universal Higgs boson masses at the grand unification scale. We make realistic estimates for the indirect detection rates including effects of the…
The relic abundance of stable neutralinos is investigated in $E_8 \times E_8'$ heterotic string theory when supersymmetry is spontaneously broken by hidden-sector gaugino condensates. In the weak coupling regime, very large scalar masses (compared to gaugino masses) are shown to lead to a too large relic abundance of the neutralinos, incompatible with cosmological observations in most of parameter space. The problem does not arise in the strong coupling regime (heterotic M-theory) because there scalar and gaugino masses are generically of the same order of magnitude.
In a minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) with explicit CP violation a mass of the lightest Higgs boson H_1 in the range 7 GeV} < M_{H_1} < 10 GeV is experimentally allowed by present accelerator limits. In the same scenario a lightest neutralino as light as 2.9 GeV can be a viable dark matter candidate, provided that a departure from the usual GUT relation among gaugino masses is assumed.
We present a detailed discussion of Sommerfeld enhancements in neutralino dark matter relic abundance calculations for several popular benchmark scenarios in the general MSSM. Our analysis is focused on models with heavy wino- and higgsino-like neutralino LSP and models interpolating between these two scenarios. This work is the first phenomenological application of effective field theory methods that we have developed in earlier work and that allow for the consistent study of Sommerfeld enhancements in non-relativistic neutralino and chargino co-annihilation reactions within the general MSSM,…
Current literature suggests that neutralinos are the dominant cold dark matter particle species. Assuming the microcanonical definition of entropy, we examine the local entropy per particle produced between the ``freeze out'' era to the present. An ``entropy consistency'' criterion emerges by comparing this entropy with the entropy per particle of actual galactic structures given in terms of dynamical halo variables. We apply this criterion to the cases when neutralinos are mosly b-inos and mostly higgsinos, in conjunction with the usual ``abundance'' criterion requiring that present neutralin…
Within the low-energy effective Minimal Supersymmetric extension of Standard Model (effMSSM) we calculated the neutralino relic density taking into account slepton-neutralino and neutralino-chargino/neutralino coannihilation channels. We performed comparative study of these channels and obtained that both of them give sizable contributions to the reduction of the relic density. Due to these coannihilation processes some models (mostly with large neutralino masses) enter into the cosmologically interesting region for relic density, but other models leave this region. Nevertheless, in general, t…
We discuss ILC measurements for a specific MSSM scenario with CP phases, where the lightest neutralino is a good candidate for dark matter, annihilating efficiently through t-channel exchange of light staus. These prospective (CP-even) ILC measurements are then used to fit the underlying model parameters. A collider prediction of the relic density of the neutralino from this fit gives 0.116<Omega h^2<0.19 at 95% CL. CP-odd observables, while being a direct signal of CP violation, do not help in further constraining Omega h^2. The interplay with (in)direct detection of dark matter and with meas…
We study pair annihilations of the neutralino dark matter in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with CP violation. We consider the case that the higgsino mass and the trilinear scalar couplings have CP-violating phases of order unity, taking a scenario that the scalar fermions in the first two generations are much heavier than those in the third generation to avoid a severe constraint from experimental limits on electric dipole moments. It is found that, when the lightest neutralino ($χ$) is bino-like, the cross sections of the $W$-boson pair production $χχ$ $\to$ $W^+W^-$ and the light…
We study the effects of a non thermal neutralino production, due to the late decay in the early universe of a single modulus field, in the context of the deflected anomaly mediated scenario. In the regime in which the average number of neutralino produced in each modulus decaying process is $\bar{N}_{\rm LSP}\ll 1$ also models with a thermal relic density below WMAP data became acceptable models. We find out that these models belong to three different classes with the common feature that the low thermal relic density is entirely due to coannihilation effects. The neutralino annihilation cross …
The thermal relic density of the wino-like neutralino dark matter in the brane world cosmology is studied. The expansion law at a high energy regime in the brane world cosmology is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, and the resultant relic density can be enhanced if the five dimensional Planck mass $M_5$ is low enough. We calculate the wino-like neutralino relic density in the anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario and show that the allowed region is dramatically modified from the one in the standard cosmology and the wino-like neutralino with mass of order 100 GeV can …
In the framework of the minimal cosmological standard model, the $Λ$CDM model, the Dark Matter density is now known with an error of a few percent; this error is expected to shrink even further once PLANCK data are analyzed. Matching this precision by theoretical calculations implies that at least leading radiative corrections to the annihilation cross section of the dark matter particles have to be included. Here we compute one kind of large corrections in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model: corrections associated with two-point function corrections on c…
Working within the framework of the minimal supergravity model with gauge coupling unification and radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, we evaluate the cosmological relic density from lightest neutralinos produced in the early universe. Our numerical calculation is distinct in that it involves direct evaluation of neutralino annihilation cross sections using helicity amplitude techniques, and thus avoids the usual expansion as a power series in terms of neutralino velocity. Thus, our calculation includes relativistic Boltzmann averaging, neutralino annihilation threshold effects, and prope…
The CDMS Collaboration has presented its results for the final exposure of the CDMS II experiment and reports that two candidate events for dark matter would survive after application of the various discrimination and subtraction procedures inherent in their analysis. We show that a population of relic neutralinos, which was already proved to fit the DAMA/LIBRA data on the annual modulation effect, could naturally explain the two candidate CDMS II events, if these are actually due to a dark matter signal.
