Observation of Above-Threshold Dissociation of Na$_2^+$ in Intense Laser Fields

We report the observation of above-threshold dissociation of a multielectron molecular system, Na$_2^+$. The process is due to continuum-continuum transitions in a field-dressed molecular continuum. Three well resolved fragmentation channels with different kinetic energy release patterns have been detected, of which, two are associated with ordinary photodissociation via light-induced potentials into Na(3s) + Na$^+$ and Na(3p) + Na$^+$, and one with continuum-continuum transitions and above-threshold dissociation into Na(3p) + Na$^+$. We show that when we dress this molecule with a field whose intensity is ~3 x 10$^{12}$ W/cm$^2$, above-threshold dissociation prevails over other processes, such as field-ionization followed by Coulomb explosion.

Phase dependence of electron localization in HeH$^{2+}$ dissociation with an intense few-cycle laser pulse

The electron localization in the dissociation of the asymmetric charged molecular ion HeH$^{2+}$ exposed to an intense few-cycle laser pulse is studied by solving numerically the 3D time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Dissociation spectrum of H$_2^+$ from a short, intense infrared laser pulse: vibration structure and focal volume effects

The dissociation spectrum of the hydrogen molecular ion by short intense pulses of infrared light is calculated. The time-dependent Schrödinger equation is discretized and integrated in position and momentum space. For few-cycle pulses one can resolve vibrational structure that commonly arises in the experimental preparation of the molecular ion from the neutral molecule. Deformation of an inner valence molecular orbital in ethanol by an intense laser field

Valence molecular orbitals play a crucial role in chemical reactions. Here we reveal that an intense laser field deforms an inner valence orbital (10a') in the ethanol molecule. Laser-Induced Dissociative Recombination of Carbon Dioxide

We experimentally investigate laser-induced dissociative recombination of CO$_2$ in linearly polarized strong laser fields with coincidence measurements. Our results show laser-induced dissociation processes originate from an electron recombination process after laser-induced double ionization. After double ionization of CO$_2$, one electron is recaptured by the CO$_2^{2+}$ and localized to O$^+$ or CO$^+$ in the following dissociation process. Pathway of D$^{+}$ in Sequential Double Ionization of D$_2$ in an Intense Laser Pulse

We show the details of the pathway for dissociative ionization process of ground electronic state of aligned D$^{+}_{2}$ due to first ionization of D$_2$ in short ($\thicksim$100 fs) and intense ($4.0\times10^{14}$ W cm$^{-2}$) 480 nm laser pulses. Multielectron dissociative ionization of molecules by intense laser radiation

We solve the hydrodynamic-ballistic equations of motion for a one-dimensional time-dependent Thomas-Fermi model of Cl_2 exposed to an intense subpicosecond laser field, and observe simultaneous multielectron ionization and molecular dissociation. The fragment kinetic energy defect with respect to the simple Coulomb explosion picture is found to originate in ejected-electron screening of the escaping fragments; its magnitude agrees with that observed in recent experiments.

Zero-energy proton dissociation of H$_2^+$ through stimulated Raman scattering

We show that (near-)zero energy proton emission from H$_2^+$ in strong two-color and broadband laser fields is dominated by a stimulated Raman scattering process taking place on the electronic ground state. It is furthermore shown that in the (near-)zero energy region the asymmetry in proton ejection induced by asymmetric laser fields is due to the interplay of several processes, rather than only pathway interferences, with vibrational trapping (or bond-hardening) taking a key role.

Dynamic and geometric alignment of CS_2 in intense laser fields of picosecond and femtosecond duration

CS$_2$ is identified as a molecule for which distinction can be made between dynamic and geometric alignment induced by intense laser fields. Measured anisotropic angular distributions of fragment ions arise from (i) dynamic alignment of the S-C-S axes along the laser polarization vector for 35-ps laser pulses and (ii) geometric alignment due to an angle-dependent ionization rate in the case of 100-fs pulses. Effect of intense, ultrashort laser pulses on DNA plasmids in their native state: strand breakages induced by {\it in-situ} electrons

Single strand breaks are induced in DNA plasmids, pBR322 and pUC19, in aqueous media by intense ultrashort laser pulses (820 nm wavelength, 45 fs pulse duration, 1 kHz repetition rate) at intensities of 1-12 TW cm$^{-2}$. The intense laser radiation generates, {\it in situ}, electrons that induce transformation of supercoiled DNA into relaxed DNA. The extent of electron-mediated relaxation of DNA structure is quantified. Introduction of electron and radical scavengers inhibits DNA damage.

Two-Color Coherent Photodissociation of Nitrogen Oxide in Intense Laser Fields

A simple one-dimensional semi-classical model with a Morse potential is used to investigate the possibility of two-color infrared multi-photon dissociation of vibrationally excited nitrogen oxide. The amplitude ratio effects and adiabatic effects are investigated.
