We propose an alternative fidelity measure (namely, a measure of the degree of similarity) between quantum states and benchmark it against a number of properties of the standard Uhlmann-Jozsa fidelity. This measure is a simple function of the linear entropy and the Hilbert-Schmidt inner product between the given states and is thus, in comparison, not as computationally demanding. It also features several remarkable properties such as being jointly concave and satisfying all of "Jozsa's axioms". The trade-off, however, is that it is supermultiplicative and does not behave monotonically under quantum operations. In addition, new metrics for the space of density matrices are identified and the joint concavity of the Uhlmann-Jozsa fidelity for qubit states is established.
Superconducting qubits provide a promising path toward building large-scale quantum computers. The simple and robust transmon qubit has been the leading platform, achieving multiple milestones. However, fault-tolerant quantum computing calls for qubit operations at error rates significantly lower than those exhibited in the state of the art. Consequently, alternative superconducting qubits with better error protection have attracted increasing interest. Among them, fluxonium is a particularly promising candidate, featuring large anharmonicity and long coherence times. Here, we engineer a fluxo…
A geometric interpretation for the A-fidelity between two states of a qubit system is presented, which leads to an upper bound of the Bures fidelity. The metrics defined based on the A-fidelity are studied by numerical method. An alternative generalization of the A-fidelity, which has the same geometric picture, to a $N$-state quantum system is also discussed.
We consider the problem of efficiently computing the Uhlmann fidelity in the case when explicit density matrix descriptions are available. We derive an alternative formula which is simpler to evaluate numerically, saving a factor of 10 in time for large matrices.
The notion of entanglement fidelity is to measure entanglement preservation through quantum channels. Nevertheless, the amount of entanglement present in a state of a quantum system at any time is measured by quantities known as measures of entanglement. Since there are different types of measures of entanglement, one may expect an entanglement fidelity to associate with its own measure of entanglement counterpart. Here, we aim to investigate association between the so called entanglement fidelity and some measures of entanglement, namely, entanglement of formation, concurrence and negativity.…
We show exactly that the $α$th power of Bures measure of entanglement and geometric measure of entanglement, as special case of entanglement measures based on fidelity, obey a class of general monogamy inequalities in an arbitrary multiqubit mixed state for $α\geq1$.
In this paper, we introduce quantum fidelity based measurement induced nonlocality for the bipartite state over two-sided von Neumann projective measurements. While all the properties of this quantity are reflected from that of one-sided measurement, the latter one is shown to set an upper bound for arbitrary bipartite state. As an illustration, we have studied the nonlocality of Bell diagonal state.
We compare and contrast the error probability and fidelity as measures of the quality of the receiver's measurement strategy for a quantum communications system. The error probability is a measure of the ability to retrieve {\it classical} information and the fidelity measures the retrieval of {\it quantum} information. We present the optimal measurement strategies for maximising the fidelity given a source that encodes information on the symmetric qubit-states.
We study the Bures measure of entanglement and the geometric measure of entanglement as special cases of entanglement measures based on fidelity, and find their tighter monogamy inequalities over tri-qubit systems as well as multi-qubit systems. Furthermore, we derive the monogamy inequality of concurrence for qudit quantum systems by projecting higher-dimensional states to qubit substates.
Uhlmann's fidelity function is one of the most widely used similarity measures in quantum theory. One definition of this function is that it is the minimum classical fidelity associated with a quantum-to-classical measurement procedure of two quantum states. In 2010, Matsumoto introduced another fidelity function which is dual to Uhlmann's in the sense that it is the maximimum classical fidelity associated with a classical-to-quantum preparation procedure for two quantum states. Matsumoto's fidelity can also be defined using the well-established notion definition of the matrix geometric mean. …
We propose a scheme to enhance the fidelity of symmetric quantum cloning machine using a weak measurement. By adjusting the intensity of weak measurement parameter $p$, we obtain the copies with different optimal fidelity. Choosing proper value of $p$, we can obtain the perfect copies for initial qubits. In this paper, we focus on $1-2$ quantum cloning for two nonorthogonal states. Sets containing more than two linear independent states are also discussed briefly. Due to weak measurements being probabilistic, we obtain high fidelity at risk of probability. If the weak measurement successes, we…
We review some parametric families of 2-qubit states for which concurrence and maximal singlet fraction (MSF) have different and even opposite behaviour. For states considered in this work, maximal achievable fidelity (MAF), a quantity derived by Verstraete and Verschelde in 2003, shows a better agreement with concurrence and complies with important features required to be considered a good entanglement measure.
Quantum fidelity is a measure to quantify the closeness of two quantum states. In an operational sense, it is defined as the minimal overlap between the probability distributions of measurement outcomes and the minimum is taken over all possible positive-operator valued measures (POVMs). Quantum fidelity has been investigated in various scientific fields, but the identification of associated optimal measurements has often been overlooked despite its great importance for practical purposes. We find here the optimal POVMs for quantum fidelity between multi-mode Gaussian states in a closed analyt…
We show that the standard method of introducing the quantum description of the electromagnetic field -- by canonical field quantization -- is not the only one. We have chosen here the relativistic quantum mechanics of the photon as the starting point. The treatment of photons as elementary particles merges smoothly with the description in terms of the quantized electromagnetic field but it also reveals some essential differences. The most striking result is the appearance of various measures of fidelity for quantum states of photons. These measures are used to characterize the localization of …
量化相干性是量子基础和量子技术的重要努力。本文根据[T. Baumgratz,M. Cramer和M. B. Plenio,Phys. Rev. Lett. 113,140401(2014)]。我们的措施是基于保真度和分析计算的任意状态的量子位。作为它的应用之一,我们证明了我们的测度可以用来检验一个纯量子比特态是否可以仅仅通过非相干操作转换成另一个纯量子比特态或混合量子比特态。

Purity and coherence of a quantum state are recognized as useful resources for various information processing tasks. In this article, we propose a fidelity based valid measure of purity and coherence monotone and establish a relationship between them. This formulation of coherence is extended to quantum correlation relative to measurement. We have also studied the role of weak measurement on purity.
Given an $m-$qubit $Φ_0$ and an $(n,m)-$quantum code $\mathcal{C}$, let $Φ$ be the $n-$qubit that results from the $\mathcal{C}-$encoding of $Φ_0$. Suppose that the state $Φ$ is affected by an isotropic error (decoherence), becoming $Ψ$, and that the corrector circuit of $\mathcal{C}$ is applied to $Ψ$, obtaining the quantum state $\tildeΦ$. Alternatively, we analyze the effect of the isotropic error without using the quantum code $\mathcal{C}$. In this case the error transforms $Φ_0$ into $Ψ_0$. Assuming that the correction circuit does not introduce new errors and that it does not increase t…
Superconducting fluxonium qubits provide a promising alternative to transmons on the path toward large-scale superconductor-based quantum computing due to their better coherence and larger anharmonicity. A major challenge for multi-qubit fluxonium devices is the experimental demonstration of a scalable crosstalk-free multi-qubit architecture with high fidelity single-qubit and two-qubit gates, single-shot readout and state initialization. Here, we present a two-qubit fluxonium-based quantum processor with a tunable coupler element following our theoretical proposal [DOI: 10.1063/5.0064800]. We…
Applications of quantum technology often require fidelities to quantify performance. These provide a fundamental yardstick for the comparison of two quantum states. While this is straightforward in the case of pure states, it is much more subtle for the more general case of mixed quantum states often found in practice. A large number of different proposals exist. In this review, we summarize the required properties of a quantum fidelity measure, and compare them, to determine which properties each of the different measures has. We show that there are large classes of measures that satisfy all …
With the current interest in building quantum computers, there is a strong need for accurate and efficient characterization of the noise in quantum gate implementations. A key measure of the performance of a quantum gate is the minimum gate fidelity, i.e., the fidelity of the gate, minimized over all input states. Conventionally, the minimum fidelity is estimated by first accurately reconstructing the full gate process matrix using the experimental procedure of quantum process tomography (QPT). Then, a numerical minimization is carried out to find the minimum fidelity. QPT is, however, well kn…
A quantum random access memory (qRAM) is considered an essential computing unit to enable polynomial speedups in quantum information processing. Proposed implementations include using neutral atoms and superconducting circuits to construct a binary tree, but these systems still require demonstrations of the elementary components. Here, we propose a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) architecture integrated with solid-state memories as a viable platform for constructing a qRAM. We also present an alternative scheme based on quantum teleportation and extend it to the context of quantum networks. …
Nearly all modern solid-state quantum processors approach quantum computation with a set of discrete qubit operations (gates) that can achieve universal quantum control with only a handful of primitive gates. In principle, this approach is highly flexible, allowing full control over the qubits' Hilbert space without necessitating the development of specific control protocols for each application. However, current error rates on quantum hardware place harsh limits on the number of primitive gates that can be concatenated together (with compounding error rates) and remain viable. Here, we report…
