We use the reduction of the string dynamics on R_t x S^3 to the Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system to map all string solutions described by this dynamical system onto solutions of the complex sine-Gordon integrable model. This mapping relates the parameters in the solutions on both sides of the correspondence. In the framework of this approach, we find finite-size string solutions, their images in the (complex) sine-Gordon system, and the leading finite-size effects of the single spike "E-Δϕ" relation for both R_t x S^2 and R_t x S^3 cases.

On finite size corrections to the dispersion relations of giant magnon and single spike on γ-deformed T^{1,1}

In this paper we consider the finite size effects for the strings in β-deformed AdS_{5}\times T^{1,1} background. We analyze the finite size corrections for the cases of giant magnon and single spike string solution. The finite size corrections for the undeformed case are straightforwardly obtained sending the deformation parameter to zero.

Large-Spin and Large-Winding Expansions of Giant Magnons and Single Spikes

We generalize the method of our recent paper on the large-spin expansions of Gubser-Klebanov-Polyakov (GKP) strings to the large-spin and large-winding expansions of finite-size giant magnons and finite-size single spikes. On the multi-spin magnon and spike solutions from membranes

Recently important classes of solitonic string solutions were obtained - giant magnons and single spikes. In previous study we showed the existence of giant magnon-like membrane solutions and studied their properties. In this paper we investigate classical rotating membranes representing analog of a specific class of string spiky solutions. Unbounded Multi-Magnon and Spike

We generalize the one magnon solution in R X S^2 to unbounded M magnon and find the corresponding solitonic string configuration in the string sigma model. This configuration gives rise to the expected dispersion relation obtained from the spin chain model in the large 't Hooft coupling limit. After considering (M,M) multi-magnon or spike on R X S^2 X S^2 as a subspace of AdS(5)XS^5 or AdS(4)XCP^3, we investigate the dispersion relation and the finite size effect for (M,M) multi-magnon or spike.

Spiky Strings and Giant Holes

We analyse semiclassical strings in AdS in the limit of one large spin. In this limit, classical string dynamics is described by a finite number of collective coordinates corresponding to spikes or cusps of the string. The semiclassical spectrum consists of two branches of excitations corresponding to "large" and "small" spikes respectively. We propose that these states are dual to the excitations known as large and small holes in the spin chain description of N=4 SUSY Yang-Mills. The Casimir Effect for Fermions in One Dimension

We study the Casimir problem for a fermion coupled to a static background field in one space dimension. We examine the relationship between interactions and boundary conditions for the Dirac field. In the limit that the background becomes concentrated at a point (a ``Dirac spike'') and couples strongly, it implements a confining boundary condition. We compute the Casimir energy for a masslike background and show that it is finite for a stepwise continuous background field. However the total Casimir energy diverges for the Dirac spike. The Omega-Infinity Limit of Single Spikes

A new infinite-size limit of strings in RxS2 is presented. The limit is obtained from single spike strings by letting by letting the angular velocity parameter omega become infinite. We derive the energy-momenta relation of omega-infinity single spikes as their linear velocity v-->1 and their angular momentum J-->1. Generally, the v-->1, J-->1 limit of single spikes is singular and has to be excluded from the spectrum and be studied separately. Spiky strings and the AdS/CFT correspondence

We first focus on the finite-gap formalism for type IIB strings in AdS_3 x S^1, which allows to encode the semiclassical spectrum of a very large family of string solutions in a Riemann surface, the spectral curve. Then, we show that, in the large angular momentum limit, it separates into two distinct surfaces, allowing the derivation of an explicit expression for the spectrum, which is correspondingly characterised by two separate branches. Perturbations of giant magnons and single spikes in $\mathbb R \times S^2$

Perturbations of giant magnons and single spikes in a $2+1$ dimensional $\mathbb R \times S^2$ background spacetime are analysed. Using the form of the giant magnon solution in the Jevicki-Jin gauge,the well-known Jacobi equation for small normal deformations of an embedded time-like surface are written down. Surprisingly, this equation reduces to a simple wave equation in a Minkowski background. The finiteness of perturbations and the ensuing stability of such giant magnons under small deformations are then discussed. On the giant magnon and spike solutions for strings on AdS$_3\times$ S$^3$

We study solutions for the rotating strings on the sphere with a background NS-NS field and on the Anti-de-Sitter spacetime. We show the existence of magnon and single spike solutions on R$\times$S$^2$ in the presence of constant magnetic field as two limiting cases. We also study the solution for strings on AdS$_3\times$ S$^3$ with Melvin deformation. The dispersion relations among various conserved charges are shown to receive finite corrections due to the deformation parameter. Finite Size Effect from Classical Strings in deformed AdS$_3\times$ S$^3$

We study the finite size effect of rigidly rotating and spinning folded strings in $(AdS_3\times S^3)_{\varkappa}$ background. We calculate the leading order exponential corrections to the infinite size dispersion relation of the giant magnon, and single spike solutions. For the spinning folded strings we write the finite size effect in terms of the known Lambert $W$-function.
