A search for the Higgs boson in H->WW->ee and H->WW->mu+tau decays in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV is presented. The data have been collected by the Run II DO detector. No excess above the Standard Model background is observed and limits on the production cross section times branching ratio for Higgs masses between 115 and 200 GeV are set.

The presence of tau leptons in the final state is an important signature in many Higgs boson and SUSY searches. With the ATLAS detector, hadronically decaying tau leptons can be reconstructed in a wide range of transverse energies. The reconstruction algorithm for hadronically decaying tau leptons is explained and the performance of tau lepton identification is shown. Particularly important is the discrimination of hadronically decaying tau leptons against overwhelming backgrounds from QCD jets.
We report results from a search for neutral Higgs bosons decaying to tau pairs produced in association with a b-quark in 1.2/fb of data taken from June 2006 to August 2007 with the D0 detector at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The final state includes a muon, hadronically decaying tau and jet identified as coming from a $b$-quark. We set cross section times branching ratio limits on production of such neutral Higgs bosons in the mass range from 90 GeV/c^2 to 160 GeV/c^2. Exclusion limits are set at the 95% Confidence Level for several supersymmetric scenarios.

A search for a standard model Higgs boson decaying into a pair of tau leptons is performed using events recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011 and 2012. Each tau lepton decays hadronically or leptonically to an electron or a muon, leading to six different final states for the tau-lepton pair, all considered in this analysis. An excess of events is observed over the expected background contributions, with a local significance larger t…
This letter presents the results of a search for a heavy particle decaying into an e mu, e tau, or mu tau final state in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6/fb. No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed, and exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on the cross section times branching ratio for the production of an R-parity-violating supersymmetric tau sneutrino. These results considerably extend constraints from Tevatron experiments.
Hadronically decaying tau leptons are of prime importance in numerous physics analyses in ATLAS. The spectrum of the possible applications of hadronically decaying tau leptons reaches from Standard Model measurements, including Higgs searches, to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. The basic principles behind the sophisticated tau reconstruction and identification techniques, which are specifically designed to identify hadronically decaying taus and reject various background processes, are delineated here along with current data-driven estimates of their respective performance.
A search for neutral MSSM Higgs bosons in pp collisions at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The results are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns recorded by the CMS experiment. The search uses decays of the Higgs bosons to tau pairs. No excess is observed in the tau-pair invariant-mass spectrum. The resulting upper limits on the Higgs boson production cross section times branching fraction to tau pairs, as a function of the pseudoscalar Higgs boson mass, yield stringent new bounds in the MSSM parameter space.

This paper describes the trigger and offline reconstruction, identification and energy calibration algorithms for hadronic decays of tau leptons employed for the data collected from $pp$ collisions in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{\mathrm{s}} = 8$ TeV. The performance of these algorithms is measured in most cases with $Z$ decays to tau leptons using the full 2012 dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb$^{-1}$. An uncertainty on the offline reconstructed tau energy scale of $2-4$%, depending on transverse energy and pseudorapidity, is…

We search for a low-mass scalar CP-odd Higgs boson, A0, produced in the radiative decay of the Upsilon resonance and decaying into a tau+tau- pair: Upsilon(1S)->gamma A0. The invariant mass of tau lepton pairs turns out to be smaller than the resonant mass of their mother particle and the invariant mass distribution is stretched wider than the width of the resonant mass as significant fraction of tau lepton momenta are carried away by neutrinos escaping undetected at collider experiments. This paper describes a new approach to reconstruct resonant masses of heavy particles decaying to tau leptons at such experiments. A typical example is a Z or Higgs boson decaying to a tau pair. Although the new technique can be used for each tau lepton separately, I combine t…

We present an algorithm for the reconstruction of the Higgs mass in events with Higgs bosons decaying into a pair of tau leptons. The algorithm is based on matrix element (ME) techniques and achieves a relative resolution on the Higgs boson mass of typically 15-20%. A previous version of the algorithm has been used in analyses of Higgs boson production performed by the CMS collaboration during LHC Run 1. The algorithm is described in detail and its performance on simulated events is assessed. The development of techniques to handle tau decays in the ME formalism represents an important result …
The first search for a heavy charged vector boson in the final state with a tau lepton and a neutrino is reported, using 19.7 inverse femtobarns of LHC data at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. The production and decay of a new heavy vector boson, a chromophilic $Z'$ vector boson, is described. The chromophilic $Z'$ couples only to two gluons, but its two-body decays are absent, leading to a dominant decay mode of $Z'\rightarrow q\bar{q}g$. The unusual nature of the interaction predicts a cross-section which grows with $m_{Z'}$ for a fixed coupling and an accompanying gluon with a coupling that rises with its energy. We study the $t\bar{t}g$ decay mode, proposing distinct reconstruction techniques for the observation of an excess and for the measurement of $m_{Z'}$. We estimate the s…

We report an analysis of tau- decaying into omega.pi-.nu_tau with omega -> pi+pi-pi0 using a data sample containing nearly 320 million tau pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-Factory. We find no evidence for second-class currents and we set an upper limit of 0.69% at 90% confidence level for the fraction of second-class currents in this decay mode.
Accurate reconstruction of the mass of a resonance decaying to a pair of $τ$ leptons is challenging because of the presence of multiple neutrinos from $τ$ decays. The existing methods rely on either a partially reconstructed mass, which has a broad spectrum that reduces sensitivity, or the collinear approximation, which is applicable only to the relatively small fraction of events. We describe a new technique, which provides an accurate mass reconstruction of the original resonance and does not suffer from the limitations of the collinear approximation. The major improvement comes from replaci…
