Based on first-principles FLAPW-GGA calculation, we have investigated electronic structure of newly discovered oxygen-free 38K superconductor Ba1-xKxFe2As2 in comparison with parent phase - tetragonal ternary iron arsenide BaFe2As2. The density of states, magnetic properties, near-Fermi bands compositions, together with Sommerfeld coefficients and molar Pauli paramagnetic susceptibility are evaluated. The results allow us to classify these systems as quasi-two-dimensional ionic metals, where the conduction is strongly anisotropic, only happening on the (Fe-As) layers. According to our calculations, at the hole doping of BaFe2As2 the density of states at the Fermi level grows, and this can be a possible factor of occurrence of superconductivity for Ba1-xKxFe2As2. On the other hand, Ba1-xKxFe2As2 lays at the border of magnetic instability and the pairing interactions might involve magnetic or orbital fluctuations.
In this paper we calculate ab initially the phonon dispersion relationship of the superconductor LaFeAsO and investigate a main property in the superconductor, the oxygen isotope effect. Based on this phonon dispersion relationship, we find the fact that an important reason of the oxygen isotope effect is connected with the phonon. This result agrees well with the experimental data where the power index of the oxygen isotope effect in the superconductor LaFeAsO is small.
The oxygen dopants are essential in tuning electronic properties of Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_{n-1}$Cu$_n$O$_{2n+4+δ}$ superconductors. Here we apply the technique of scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to study the influence of oxygen dopants in an optimally doped Bi$_2$Sr$_{2-x}$La$_x$CuO$_{6+δ}$ and an overdoped Bi$_{2-y}$Pb$_y$Sr$_2$CuO$_{6+δ}$. In both samples, we find that interstitial oxygen atoms on the SrO layers dominate over the other two forms of oxygen dopants, oxygen vacancies on the SrO layers and interstitial oxygen atoms on the BiO layers. The hole doping is estimated from th…
The full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method with the generalized gradient approximation for the exchange and correlation potential (LAPW-GGA) is used to understand the electronic band structure of fluorine-arsenide SrFeAsF as a possible parent material for a new group of oxygen-free FeAs superconductors. The electronic bands, density of states, Fermi surface and atomic charges have been evaluated and discussed for high-temperature tetragonal and low-temperature orthorhombic SrFeAsF phases.
We report a temperature-dependent increase below 300 K of diffuse superlattice peaks corresponding to q_0 =(~2/5,0,0) in an under-doped YBa_2Cu_3O_6+x superconductor (x~0.63). These peaks reveal strong c-axis correlations involving the CuO_2 bilayers, show a non-uniform increase below \~220 K with a plateau for ~100-160 K, and appear to saturate in the superconducting phase. We interpret this unconventional T-dependence of the ``oxygen-ordering'' peaks as a manifestation of a charge density wave in the CuO_2 planes coupled to the oxygen-vacancy ordering.
The organization of dopants in high temperature superconductors provides complex topological geometries that controls superconducting properties. This makes the study of dopants spatial distribution of fundamental importance. The mobile oxygen ions, y, in the CuO2 plane of YBa2Cu3O6+y (0.33<y<0.67) form ordered chains which greatly affect the transport properties of the material. Here we visualize and characterize the 2D spatial organization of these oxygen chains using scanning micro X-ray diffraction measurements in transmission mode on a thin single crystal slab with y=0.33 (Tc=7 K) near th…
It is shown that an account for the space separatedness of the two-orbital subsystem of the oxygen holes and the subsystem of the localized spins of copper ions in high-T$_c$ cuprate superconductors leads to the stability of the superconducting $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave pairing towards the strong Coulomb repulsion between holes located at the nearest oxygen ions. This effect is due to the fact that the Coulomb potential slips out of the equation for the Cooper pairing in the $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave channel owing to the properties of symmetry.
The oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the zero-temperature superconducting energy gap Δ_0 was studied for a series of Y_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ} samples (0.0\leq x\leq0.45). The OIE on Δ_0 was found to scale with the one on the superconducting transition temperature. These experimental results are in quantitative agreement with predictions from a polaronic model for cuprate high-temperature superconductors and rule out approaches based on purely electronic mechanisms.
Multiple functional ionic and electronic orders are observed in high temperature superconducting cuprates. The charge density wave order is one of them and it is spatially localized in spatial regions of the material. It is also known that the oxygen interstitials introduced by chemical intercalation self-organize in different oxygen rich regions corresponding with hole rich regions in the Cu$O_2$ layers left empty by the charge density wave order domains. However, what happens in between these two order is not known, and neither there is a method to control this spatial separation. Here we de…
Photoemission spectroscopy with low-energy tunable photons on oxygen-deficient iron-based oxypnictide superconductors NdFeAsO0.85 (Tc=52K) reveals a distinct photon-energy dependence of the electronic structure near the Fermi level (EF). A clear shift of the leading-edge can be observed in the superconducting states with 9.5 eV photons, while a clear Fermi cutoff with little leading-edge shift can be observed with 6.0 eV photons. The results are indicative of the superconducting gap opening not on the hole-like ones around Gamma (0,0) point but on the electron-like sheets around M(pi,pi) point…
The oxygen defects induced phase transition from nonergodic to ergodic state in superconductors with intragrain granularity is considered within the superconductive glass model. The model predictions are found to be in a qualitative agreement with some experimental observations in deoxygenated high-T_c single crystals.
Phase diagrams of as-grown and O2-annealed FeTe1-xSex determined from magnetic susceptibility measurement were obtained. For as-grown samples, the antiferromagnetic order was fully suppressed in the range region x \geq 0.15, and weak superconductivity appeared when x \geq 0.1. Beginning at x = 0.5, weak superconductivity was found to evolve into bulk superconductivity. Interestingly, for O2-annealed samples, complete suppression of magnetic order and the occurrence of bulk superconductivity were observed when x \geq 0.1. We found that O2-annealing induces bulk superconductivity for FeTe1-xSex.…
We have studied the far-infrared (far-IR) charge dynamics of an equilibrated pure oxygen doped La2CuO4+0.0315 under slow-cooled and fast-cooled conditions. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) for the slow-cooled and that for the fast-cooled processes were respectively found to be close to the two intrinsic Tc's: One at 30 K and the other at 15 K. Direct comparison with our previous results and other far-IR and Raman studies on single crystalline La2-xSrxCuO4, we conclude that the topology of the pristine electronic phases that are responsible for the two intrinsic Tc's is holes arr…
The magnetic field dependence of the oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the in-plane magnetic field penetration depth λ_{ab} was studied in the hole-doped high-temperature cuprate superconductors YBa_2Cu_4O_8, Y_0.8Pr_0.2Ba_2Cu_3O_7-δ, and Y_0.7Pr_0.3Ba_2Cu_3O_7-δ. It was found that λ_ab for the ^{16}O substituted samples increases stronger with increasing magnetic field than for the ^{18}O ones. The OIE on λ_ab decreases by more than a factor of two with increasing magnetic field from μ_0H=0.2 T to μ_0H=0.6 T. This effect can be explained by the isotope dependence of the in-plane …
The disposition of defects in metal oxides is a key attribute exploited for applications from fuel cells and catalysts to superconducting devices and memristors. The most typical defects are mobile excess oxygens and oxygen vacancies, and can be manipulated by a variety of thermal protocols as well as optical and dc electric fields. Here we report the X-ray writing of high-qualitysuperconducting regions, derived from defect ordering, in the superoxygenated layered cuprate, La2CuO4+y. Irradiation of a poor superconductor prepared by rapid thermal quenching results first in growth of ordered reg…
By means of first-principle FLAPW-GGA calculations, we have investigated the electronic properties of the newly discovered layered quaternary systems SrFeAsF and CaFeAsF as parent phases for a new group of oxygen-free FeAs superconductors. The electronic bands, density of states, Fermi surfaces, atomic charges, together with Sommerfeld coefficients and molar Pauli paramagnetic susceptibility have been evaluated and discussed in comparison with oxyarsenide LaFeAsO - a parent phase for a new class of high-temperature (Tc about 26-56K) oxygen-containing FeAs superconductors. Similarity of our dat…
We report resistivity, Hall effect, Nernst effect, and magnetoresistance measurements on T'-phase La1.85Y0.15CuO (LYCO) films prepared by pulsed laser deposition under different oxygen conditions. Our results show that superconductivity in LYCO originates from an oxygen-doped Mott-like insulator and not from a weakly correlated, half-filled band metal as proposed previously.
Muon-spin rotation (muSR) studies of the oxygen isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the in-plane magnetic field penetration depth lambda_{ab} in cuprate high-temperature superconductors (HTS) are presented. First, the doping dependence of the OIE on the transition temperature T_c in various HTS is briefly discussed. It is observed that different cuprate families show a similar doping dependence of the OIE on T_c. Then, bulk muSR, low-energy muSR, and magnetization studies of the total and site-selective OIE on lambda_{ab} are described in some detail. A substantial OIE on lambda_{ab} was o…
Recent experiments on Bi-based cuprate superconductors have revealed an unexpected enhancement of the pairing correlations near the interstitial oxygen dopant ions. Here we propose a possible mechanism -- based on local screening effects -- by which the oxygen dopants do modify the electronic parameters within the CuO_2 planes and strongly increase the superexchange coupling J. This enhances the spin pairing effects locally and may explain the observed spatial variations of the density of states and the pairing gap.
High-field electrical transport and point-contact tunneling spectroscopy were used to investigate superconducting properties of the unique spinel oxide, LiTi$_2$O$_{4-δ}$ films with various oxygen content. We find that the upper critical field $B_\mathrm{c2}$ gradually increases as more oxygen impurities are brought into the samples by carefully tuning the deposition atmosphere. It is striking that although the superconducting transition temperature and energy gap are almost unchanged, an astonishing isotropic $B_\mathrm{c2}$ up to $\sim$ 26 Tesla is observed in oxygen-rich sample, which is do…
To understand the link between doping and electronic properties in high temperature superconductors, we report first-principles calculations on the oxygen doping effect for the single layer cuprate HgBa$_2$CuO$_{4+δ}$. The doping effect is studied both by supercell and single cell virtual crystal type approaches. We find ionic behavior of the dopant atom up to an optimal doping concentration of $δ=0.22$. The excess oxygen attracts electrons from the CuO$_2$ plane leading to an increase of the hole concentration in this building block. The maximum amount of holes is reached when the oxygen $p$-…
There is a hot debate on the anomalous behavior of superfluid density $ρ_s$ in overdoped La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ films in recent years. The linear drop of $ρ_s$ at low temperatures implies the superconductors are clean, but the linear scaling between $ρ_s$ (in the zero temperature limit) and the transition temperature $T_c$ is a hallmark of the dirty limit in the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) framework [I. Bozovic et al., Nature 536, 309 (2016)]. This dichotomy motivated exotic theories beyond the standard BCS theory. We show, however, that such a dichotomy can be reconciled naturally by the…
Using the apical oxygen doping mechanism, i.e. a partial substitution of divalence O for the monovalence Cl, a p-type oxychloride cuprate superconductor, Sr2CuO2+xCl2-y, was synthesized at high pressure high temperature. The x-ray diffraction refinement suggests the superconductor crystallizes into a 0201 structure with space group I4/mmm and lattice parameters being a=3.92A, c=15.6 A. The magnetic susceptibility as well as resistance measurements indicated that the bulk superconductivity with transition temperature 30K was achieved in the sample.
The oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the in-plane magnetic penetration depth λ_{ab}(0) in optimally-doped YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ} and La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}CuO_4, and in slightly underdoped YBa_2Cu_4O_8 and Y_{0.8}Pr_{0.2}Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-δ} was studied by means of muon-spin rotation. A substantial OIE on λ_{ab}(0) with an OIE exponent β_O=-d\lnλ_{ab}(0)/d\ln M_O\approx - 0.2 (M_O is the mass of the oxygen isotope), and a small OIE on the transition temperature T_c with an OIE exponent α_O=-d\ln T_{c}/d \ln M_O\simeq0.02 to 0.1 were observed. The observation of a substantial isotope effect on λ…
Recent experiments on heterostructures composed of two or more films of cuprate superconductors of different oxygen doping levels\cite{Yuli,Gozar} have shown a remarkable T$_c$ enhancement (up to 50%) relative to single compound films. We provide here a simple explanation of the enhancement which arises naturally from a collection of experimental works. We show that the enhancement could be caused by a structural change in the lattice, namely an increase in the distance of the apical oxygen from the copper-oxygen plane. This increase modifies the effective off-site interaction in the plane whi…
We have succeeded in synthesizing electron-doped polycrystalline bulk samples of T'-La1.8Eu0.2CuO4-yFy (y = 0 - 0.15) by the fluorination of undoped (Ce-free) T'-La1.8Eu0.2CuO4 using NH4F. The magnetic susceptibility measurements have revealed that the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, increases with increasing y, exhibits the maximum of 23 K at y = 0.025, and decreases. The dome-like dependence of Tc on the doped carrier concentration in the T'-type (La,Eu)-based cuprates is explained in terms of the pairing mediated by spin fluctuations based on the d-p model calculation [K. Yamaza…
While recent experiments have found that at optimum doping for the highest critical temperature in HgBa$_2$CuO$_{4+y}$ (Hg1201) the oxygen interstitials (O-i) are not homogeneously distributed but form one-dimensional atomic wires, there are no available information of its electronic structure considering self-organized O-i atomic wires. Here we report the calculated electronic structure of HgBa$_2$CuO$_{4+y}$ where oxygen interstitials form atomic wires along (1,0,0) crystal direction in the Hg layer. We find that at optimum doping for superconductivity the chemical potential is tuned near an…
In our recent work [Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 137001 (2002)], we proposed that the apical oxygen vacancies act as anisotropic scattering impurities. Within the Born approximation, this leads to a quasi-particle scattering rate that is maximal (zero) in the antinodal (nodal) direction. This unique angular dependence provides a straightforward mechanism for some puzzling experimental results in overdoped La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ (LSCO) films regarding the superfluid density $ρ_s$ and optical conductivity $σ_1$. In a recent comment by H. U. Ozdemir et al. [arXiv:2206.01301], the importance of the natu…
In high Tc superconductors the magnetic and electronic properties are determined by the probability that valence electrons virtually jump from site to site in the CuO2 planes, a mechanism opposed by on-site Coulomb repulsion and favored by hopping integrals. The spatial extent of the latter is related to transport properties, including superconductivity, and to the dispersion relation of spin excitations (magnons). Here, for three antiferromagnetic parent compounds (single-layer Bi2Sr0.99La1.1CuO6+delta, double-layer Nd1.2Ba1.8Cu3O6 and infinite-layer CaCuO2) differing by the number of apical …
We investigated the preferred electron dopants at the oxygen sites of 1111-type SmFeAsO by changing the atmospheres around the precursor with the composition of Sm:Fe:As:O = 1:1:1:1-x in high-pressure synthesis. Under H2O and H2 atmospheres, hydrogens derived from H2O or H2 molecules were introduced into the oxygen sites as a hydride ion, and SmFeAsO1-xHx was obtained. However, when the H2O and H2 sources were removed from the synthetic process, nearly stoichiometric SmFeAsO was obtained and the maximum amount of oxygen vacancies introduced remained x = 0.05(4). Density functional theory calcu…
Sr2VO{3-delta}FeAs superconductors with different oxygen deficiencies have been successfully fabricated. It is found that the superconducting transition temperature drops down monotonically with the increase of oxygen deficiency. The diminishing of superconductivity is accompanied by the enhancement of residual resistivity, indicating an unraveled scattering effect induced by the oxygen deficiency. The highest superconducting transition temperature at about 40 K is achieved near the stoichiometrical sample Sr$_2$VO$_{3}$FeAs. Surprisingly, the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) shows that …
Oxygen-isotope effect has been investigated in a recently discovered superconductor Sr_{0.4}K_{0.6}BiO_{3}. This compound has a distorted perovskite structure and becomes superconducting at about 12 K. Upon replacing ^{16}O with ^{18}O by 60-80%, the T_c of the sample is shifted down by 0.32-0.50 K, corresponding to an isotope exponent of alpha_{O} = 0.40(5). This isotope exponent is very close to that for a similar bismuthate superconductor Ba_{1-x}K_{x}BiO_{3} with T_c = 30 K. The very distinctive doping and T_c dependencies of alpha_{O} observed in bismuthates and cuprates suggest that bism…
Band structure calculations are presented for large supercells of Ba$_2$CuO$_4$ (BCO) with O-vacancies in planar or apic al positions, and of superoxygenated La$_2$CuO$_4$ (LCO) with oxygen interstitials in the La$_2$O$_2$ layers. It is foun d that apical oxygen vacancies in BCO act as electron dopants and makes the electronic structure similar to that of hole doped LCO. Excess oxygen interstitials forming wires in the La$_2$O$_2$ layers of LCO are shown to yield a much larger density-of-states at the Fermi energy than for the stoichiometric compound related with a segmentation of the Fermi su…
The critical doping levels in cuprates, where the ground state changes its nature (from an antiferromagnet to a spin glass to superconductor to metal), are not universal. We investigate the origin of these critical doping variations by measuring the in-plane oxygen $p_σ$ hole density in the CuO$_{2}$ layers as a function of the oxygen density $y$ in (Ca$_{x}$ La$_{1-x}$)(Ba$_{1.75-x}$La$_{0.25+x}$)Cu$_{3}$O$_{y}$. This is done using the oxygen 17 nuclear quadrupole resonance parameter $ν_{Q}$. We compare compounds with $x=0.1$ and 0.4 which have significant critical $y$ variations and find tha…
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements have observed modulations in the density of states (DOS) of a number of high-T$_c$ cuprates. These modulations have been interpreted in terms of electron-boson coupling analogous to the dispersion "kinks" observed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). However, a direct a reconciliation of the energy scales and features observed by the two probes is presently lacking. In this paper we examine the general features of el-boson coupling in a $d-$wave superconductor using Eliashberg theory, focusing on the structure of the modulations…
The paper briefly surveys theoretical models for the polar Kerr effect (PKE) and time-reversal symmetry breaking in the pseudogap phase of cuprate superconductors. By elimination, the most promising candidate is the tilted loop-current model, obtained from the Simon-Varma model by tilting one triangular loop up and another one down toward the apical oxygens. The model is consistent with the PKE, spin-polarized neutron scattering, and optical anisotropy measurements. Spontaneous currents in this model flow between the in-plane and apical oxygens in such a manner that each oxygen belongs to one …
The energetics of Schottky defects in 123 cuprate superconductor series, $\rm REBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (where RE = lanthandies) and $\rm YAE_2Cu_3O_7$ (AE = alkali-earths), were found to have unusual relations if one considers only the volumetric strain. Our calculations reveal the effect of non-uniform changes of interatomic distances within the RE-123 structures, introduced by doping homovalent elements, on the Schottky defect formation energy. The energy of formation of Frenkel Pair defects, which is an elementary disordering event, in 123 compounds can be substantially altered under both stress and …
We study oxygen K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and investigate the validity of the Zhang-Rice singlet (ZRS) picture in overdoped cuprate superconductors. Using large-scale exact diagonalization of the three-orbital Hubbard model, we observe the effect of strong correlations manifesting in a dynamical spectral weight transfer from the upper Hubbard band to the ZRS band. The quantitative agreement between theory and experiment highlights an additional spectral weight reshuffling due to core-hole interaction. Our results confirm the important correlated nature of the cuprates and eluc…
Planar large-bipolarons can form if the ratio of the surrounding mediums static to high-frequency dielectric constants is especially large. A large-bipolaron in p-doped La2CuO4 is modeled as two electrons being removed from the out-of-plane orbitals of four oxygen ions circumscribed by four copper ions of a CuO2 layer. These oxygen dianions relax inwardly as they donate electrons to the surrounding outwardly relaxing copper cations. This charge transfer generates the strong in-plane electron-lattice interaction needed to stabilize a large-bipolaron with respect to decomposing into polarons. Th…
We have performed structural analyses on iron-based superconductors, PrFeAsO$_{1-y}$ and PrFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$, systematically, by means of Rietveld method on neutron powder diffraction data. The shifts of iron ion valence from +2, $δ$, are accurately determined from the occupancies of O and O$_{1-x}$F$_x$ sites obtained by the Rietveld analysis and F-concentration obtained by secondary ion-microprobe mass spectrometry. $T_\textrm{c}$-$δ$ curve of PrFeAsO$_{1-y}$ is different from the curve of PrFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$, indicating that $δ$ is not a principal parameter for $T_\textrm{c}$ in so-called…
Universal scaling laws can guide the understanding of new phenomena, and for cuprate high-temperature superconductivity such an early influential relation showed that the critical temperature of superconductivity ($T_c$) correlates with the density of the superfluid measured at low temperatures. This famous Uemura relation has been inspiring the community ever since. Here we show that the charge content of the bonding orbitals of copper and oxygen in the ubiquitous CuO$_2$ plane, accessible with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), is tied to the Uemura scaling. This charge distribution between c…
The pseudogap is a key property of the cuprate superconductors, whose understanding should illuminate the pairing mechanism. Recent experimental data support a close connection between the pseudogap and an oxygen-driven C4 symmetry breaking within the CuO2 plane unit cell. Using ab initio Molecular Dynamics, we demonstrate the existence of a strong nonlinear electron-oxygen vibrator coupling in two cuprates. In a mean field approach applied to this coupling within a model Hamiltonian, we derive a C4 splitting/pseudogap phase diagram in agreement with experiment - providing an explanation for t…
Electronic band structure of boron-rich low-temperature superconductors UB12-like dodecaboride YB12 and CaB6-like hexaboride YB6 are investigated using the first-principle FLMTO calculations and compared with one for layered YB2 and the new "medium-Tc" superconductor MgB2 diborides.
The electronic structure of the Fe-based superconductors is discussed, mainly from the point of view of first principles calculations in relation to experimental data. Comparisons and contrasts with cuprates are made. The problem of reconciling experiments indicating an $s$ symmetry gap with experiments indicating line nodes is discussed and a possible resolution is given.
We study the oxygen isotope (^{16}O,^{18}O) and finite size effects in Y_{1-x}Pr_{x}Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-δ} by in-plane penetration depth (λ_{ab}) measurements. A significant change of the length L_{c} of the superconducting domains along the c-axis and λ_{ab}^{2} is deduced, yielding the relative isotope shift ΔL_{c}/L_{c}\approx Δλ_{ab}^{2}/λ_{ab}^{2}\approx -0.14 for x=0, 0.2 and 0.3. This uncovers the existence and relevance of the coupling between the superfluid, lattice distortions and anharmonic phonons which involve the oxygen lattice degrees of freedom.
It is widely believed that the long-range antiferromagnetic order in the RBa2Cu3O6+x compounds (R=Y and rare earths except of Ce, Pr, Tb) is totally suppressed for the oxygen index x>0.4 (AFM insulator-metal transition). We present the results of the copper NQR/NMR studies of aged RBa2Cu3O6+x (R=Tm,Y) samples showing that a magnetic order can still be present at oxygen contents x up to at least 0.7 and at temperatures as high as 77K.
We apply the generalized two-band model of superconductivity to calculate the electronic contribution to the specific heat, superconducting gaps and electron-boson coupling constants of the multi-band layered superconductors MgB2 and Ba(Fe0.925Co0.075)2As2. For both compounds, the obtained temperature-behavior of the specific heat well describes the experimental data. We compare our findings with the "two-band - model" that is frequently used to calculate the electronic specific heat, and that is applicable only for superconductors with strong interband scattering ("dirty" enough superconducto…
The strong, electronically induced anomaly in the spectrum of the longitudinal optical (LO) phonons propagating along the main axes of the CuO$_2$ plane is tentatively attributed to the oxygen-oxygen charge transfer between the two oxygens in the plane. It is argued that this charge transfer can be large and that it is strongly coupled to the zone boundary LO phonons. The corresponding negative contribution to the free energy is quartic in the LO phonon amplitude, making the LO phonon unstable through the first order phase transition, with a concomitant domain structure.
The relation between the incommensurability observed in neutron scattering experiments in bilayer cuprate superconductors and the electronic structure is investigated. It is found that the observed incommesurability pattern, as well as its dependence on energy, can be well reproduced by electronic dispersions motivated by angle resolved photoemission data. The commensurate resonance and its contribution to the superconducting condensation energy are discussed in the context of these calculations.
The dynamical mean-field theory of the three-band model of copper-oxide superconductors is used to calculate the doping dependence of the intensity of the oxygen K-edge x-ray absorption spectra of high-$T_c$ copper oxide superconductors. The model is found not to reproduce the results of a recent experiment, suggesting that at sufficiently high doping the physics beyond the conventional three-band model becomes important.
We synthesized the YBamCu1+mOy superconductors; m = 2,3,4,5 that were Y123 (YBa2Cu3O7-x), Y134 (YBa3Cu4O9-x), Y145 (YBa4Cu5O11-x), Y156 (YBa5Cu6O13-x), by solid state reaction with the Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuO as the beginning materials. The calcination temperature was 950 C and varied the sintering temperature to be 950 C and 980 C. The resistivity measurement by four-point-probe technique showed that the Tconset of Y123, Y134, Y145, Y156 were at 97 K, 93 K, 91K, 85 K, respectively. The XRD and Rietveld full-profile analysis method were used and found that the crystal structure was in the orthorho…
The temperature dependences of the Hall-Lorenz numbers (Lxy) in a EuBa2Cu3Oy (Eu-123) single crystal before and after oxygen reduction are reported. The study is based on data on the normal state longitudinal and transversal transport coefficients. Namely, the temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, longitudinal thermal conductivity, and transverse thermal conductivity are presented. The set of measurements was performed for an optimally doped sample (y = 7), then the oxygen content in the the same crystal was reduced to y = 6.65, and the measurements were repe…
Recently, the different electronic charges, which are related to the different coupling constants with magnetic field, in the two-component superconductor have been studied in frame of Ginzburg-Landau theory. In order to study the electronic charges in detail we suggest the wave function in the two-component superconductor to be coherent state. We find the different electronic charges exist not only in the coherent state but the incoherent state. But the ratio of the different charges in the coherent state is different from ratio in the incoherence. The expressions of the coupling constants ar…
The formula frequently used to describe the c-axis infrared response of the coupled electron-phonon system of bilayer cuprate superconductors and providing important insights into the physics of these materials has been originally obtained at the level of the phenomenological multilayer model. Here we derive it using diagrammatic perturbation theory.
We use first-principles calculations to extract two essential microscopic parameters, the charge-transfer energy and the inter-cell oxygen-oxygen hopping, which correlate with the maximum superconducting transition temperature $\Tcmax$ across the cuprates. We explore the superconducting state in the three-band model of the copper-oxygen planes using cluster Dynamical Mean-Field Theory. We find that the variation in the charge-transfer energy largely accounts for the empirical trend in $\Tcmax$, resolving a long-standing contradiction with theoretical calculations.
Electronic structure of a novel superconducting noncentrosymmetric compound Mg10Ir19B16 was calculated using the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method. Electronic part of the electron-phonon coupling constant, McMillan-Hopfield parameters, were calculated using the rigid-muffin-tin approximation (RMTA). The magnitude of the electron-phonon coupling constant, analysing atomic contributions, is discussed. Our results show, that superconductivity in Mg10Ir19B16 is presumably mediated by electron-phonon interaction.
It is well known that the microstructures of the transition-metal oxides (refs 1-3), including the high-transition-temperature (high-Tc) copper oxide superconductors (refs 4-7), are complex. This is particularly so when there are oxygen interstitials or vacancies (ref.8), which influence the bulk properties. For example, the oxygen interstitials in the spacer layers separating the superconducting CuO2 planes undergo ordering phenomena in Sr(2)O(1+y)CuO(2) (ref. 9), YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+y) (ref. 10) and La(2)CuO(4+y) (refs 11-15) that induce enhancements in the transition temperatures with no changes…
The electronic Raman scattering of Borocarbide superconductors is studied based on the weak coupling theory with $s+g$-wave gap symmetry. The low energy behaviors and the relative peak positions can be naturally understood, while the explanation of the detailed shape of the $B_{1g}$ peak seems to require a strong inelastic interaction not present in the weak coupling theory.
Based on first-principle FLAPW-GGA calculations, we have investigated structural and electronic properties of the recently synthesized tetragonal (space group P4/nmm) nickel-based pnictide oxide superconductors: 3.3K (Ni2P2)(Sr4Sc2O6) and 2.7K (Ni2As2)(Sr4Sc2O6). Optimized structural data, electronic bands, total and partial densities of states, and Fermi surface topology have been obtained and discussed in comparison with available experiments and with their Fe-based (Fe2P2)(Sr4Sc2O6) and (Fe2As2)(Sr4Sc2O6) analogs.
