We prove that the density fluctuations for a zero-range process evolving on the supercritical percolation cluster are given by a generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process in the space of distributions $\mc S'(\bb R^d)$.
We introduce a new first passage percolation model in a Poissonian environment on $\mathbb{R}^{2}$. In this model, the action of a path depends on the geometry of the path and the travel time. We prove that the transversal fluctuation exponent for point-to-line action minimizers is at least $3/5$.
Using the fact that the Airy process describes the limiting fluctuations of the Hammersley last-passage percolation model, we prove that it behaves locally like a Brownian motion. Our method is quite straightforward, and it is based on a certain monotonicity and good control over the equilibrium measures of the Hammersley model (local comparison).
The non-random fluctuation is one of the central objects in first passage percolation. It was proved in [Shuta Nakajima. Divergence of non-random fluctuation in First Passage Percolation. {\em Electron. Commun. Probab.} 24 (65), 1-13. 2019.] that for a particular asymptotic direction, it diverges in a lattice first passage percolation with an explicit lower bound. In this paper, we discuss the non-random fluctuation in Euclidean first passage percolations and show that it diverges in dimension $d\geq 2$ in this model also. Compared with the result in \cite{N19}, the present result is proved fo…
We consider first passage percolation with i.i.d. weights on edges of the d-dimensional cubic lattice. Under the assumptions that a weight is equal to zero with probability smaller than the critical probability of bond percolation in the d-dimensional cubic lattice, and has moments bigger than 1, we investigate upper bounds on the so-called non-random fluctuations of the model. In addition, we give an application of our result to a lower bound for variance of the first passage percolation in the case where the limit shape has flat edges.
We consider a Bernoulli bond percolation on a random recursive tree of size $n\gg 1$, with supercritical parameter $p_n=1-c/\ln n$ for some $c>0$ fixed. It is known that with high probability, there exists then a unique giant cluster of size $G_n\sim \e^{-c}$, and it follows from a recent result of Schweinsberg \cite{Sch} that $G_n$ has non-gaussian fluctuations. We provide an explanation of this by analyzing the effect of percolation on different phases of the growth of recursive trees. This alternative approach may be useful for studying percolation on other classes of trees, such as for ins…
We prove that the heavy clusters are indistinguishable for Bernoulli percolation on quasi-transitive nonunimodular graphs. As an application, we show that the uniqueness threshold of any quasi-transitive graph is also the threshold for connectivity decay. This resolves a question of Lyons and Schramm (1999) in the Bernoulli percolation case and confirms a conjecture of Schonmann (2001). We also prove that every infinite cluster of Bernoulli percolation on a nonamenable quasi-transitive graph is transient almost surely.
We study random walks on supercritical percolation clusters on wedges in $\Z^3$, and show that the infinite percolation cluster is (a.s.) transient whenever the wedge is transient. This solves a question raised by O. Haggstrom and E. Mossel. We also show that for convex gauge functions satisfying a mild regularity condition, the existence of a finite energy flow on $Z^2$ is equivalent to the (a.s.) existence of a finite energy flow on the supercritical percolation cluster. This solves a question of C. Hoffman.
This text is based on a lecture for the Sheffield Probability Day; its main purpose is to survey some recent asymptotic results about Bernoulli bond percolation on certain large random trees with logarithmic height. We also provide a general criterion for the existence of giant percolation clusters in large trees, which answers a question raised by David Croydon.
Consider Bernoulli bond percolation on a graph nicely embedded in hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^d$ in such a way that it admits a transitive action by isometries of $\mathbb H^d$. Let $p_0$ be the supremum of such percolation parameters that no point at infinity of $\mathbb H^d$ lies in the boundary of the cluster of a fixed vertex with positive probability. Then for any parameter $p < p_0$, a.s. every percolation cluster has only one-point boundaries of ends.
We consider a critical Bernoulli site percolation on the uniform infinite planar triangulation. We study the tail distributions of the peeling time, perimeter, and volume of the hull of a critical cluster. The exponents obtained here differs by a factor 2 from those computed previously by Angel and Curien (2015) in the case of critical site percolation on the uniform infinite half-plane triangulation.
We establish several equivalent characterisations of the anchored isoperimetric dimension of supercritical clusters in Bernoulli bond percolation on transitive graphs. We deduce from these characterisations together with a theorem of Duminil-Copin, Goswami, Raoufi, Severo, and Yadin that if $G$ is a transient transitive graph then the infinite clusters of Bernoulli percolation on $G$ are transient for $p$ sufficiently close to $1$. It remains open to extend this result down to the critical probability. Along the way we establish two new cluster repulsion inequalities that are of independent in…
On the supercritical percolation cluster with parameter p, the distances between two distant points of the axis are asymptotically increased by a factor 1+(1-p)/2+o(1-p) with respect to the usual distance. The proof is based on an apparently new connection with the TASEP (totally asymmetric simple exclusion process).
We consider the simple random walk on the infinite cluster of the Bernoulli bond percolation of trees, and investigate the relation between the speed of the simple random walk and the retaining probability p by studying three classes of trees. A sufficient condition is established for Galton-Watson trees.
We prove that the heat kernel on the infinite Bernoulli percolation cluster in Z^d almost surely decays faster than t^{-d/2}. We also derive estimates on the mixing time for the random walk confined to a finite box. Our approach is based on local isoperimetric inequalities.
We show that random walks on the infinite supercritical percolation clusters in Z^d satisfy the usual Law of the Iterated Logarithm. The proof combines Barlow's Gaussian heat kernel estimates and the ergodicity of the random walk on the environment viewed from the random walker as derived by Berger and Biskup.
A split tree of cardinality $n$ is constructed by distributing $n$ "balls" in a subset of vertices of an infinite tree which encompasses many types of random trees such as $m$-ary search trees, quad trees, median-of-$(2k+1)$ trees, fringe-balanced trees, digital search trees and random simplex trees. In this work, we study Bernoulli bond percolation on arbitrary split trees of large but finite cardinality $n$. We show for appropriate percolation regimes that depend on the cardinality $n$ of the split tree that there exists a unique giant cluster, the fluctuations of the size of the giant clust…
We consider the percolation problem in the high-temperature Ising model on the two-dimensional square lattice at or near critical external fields. The incipient infinite cluster (IIC) measure in the sense of Kesten is constructed. As a consequence, we can obtain some geometric properties of IIC. The result holds also for the triangular lattice.
We study the speed of a biased random walk on a percolation cluster on $\Z^d$ in function of the percolation parameter $p$. We obtain a first order expansion of the speed at $p=1$ which proves that percolating slows down the random walk at least in the case where the drift is along a component of the lattice.
We present a survey of techniques to obtain upper bounds for the variance of the passage time in first-passage percolation. The methods discussed are a combination of tools from the theory of concentration of measure, some of which we briefly review. These are combined with variations on an idea of Benjamini-Kalai-Schramm to obtain a logarithmic improvement over the linear bound implied by the Efron-Stein/Poincare inequality, for general edge-weight distributions.
We study biased random walk on the infinite connected component of supercritical percolation on the integer lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$ for $d\geq 2$. For this model, Fribergh and Hammond showed the existence of an exponent $γ$ such that: for $γ<1$, the random walk is sub-ballistic (i.e. has zero velocity asymptotically), with polynomial escape rate described by $γ$; whereas for $γ>1$, the random walk is ballistic, with non-zero speed in the direction of the bias. They moreover established, under the usual diffusive scaling about the mean distance travelled by the random walk in the direction of th…
We prove the almost sure ('quenched') invariance principle for a random walker on an infinite Bernoulli percolation cluster in $\Z^d$ where $d$ is larger or equal than 2.
We consider the Cheeger constant $ϕ(n)$ of the giant component of supercritical bond percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d/n\mathbb{Z}^d$. We show that the variance of $ϕ(n)$ is bounded by $\fracξ{n^d}$, where $ξ$ is a positive constant that depends only on the dimension $d$ and the percolation parameter.
We study a percolation process on the planted binary tree, where clusters freeze as soon as they become larger than some fixed parameter N. We show that as N goes to infinity, the process converges in some sense to the frozen percolation process introduced by Aldous. In particular, our results show that the asymptotic behaviour differs substantially from that on the square lattice, on which a similar process has been studied recently by van den Berg, de Lima and Nolin.
This note is motivated by results in arXiv:math/0608132 and arXiv:0806.2425 about global relations between the invasion percolation cluster (IPC) and the incipient infinite cluster (IIC) on regular trees and on two dimensional lattices, respectively. Namely, that the laws of the two objects are mutually singular, and, in the case of regular trees, that the IIC stochastically dominates the IPC. We prove that on two dimensional lattices, the IIC does not stochastically dominate the IPC. This is the first example showing that the relation between the IIC and IPC is significantly different on tree…
In this paper we are concerned with contact processes on open clusters of oriented percolation in $Z^d$, where the disease spreads along the direction of open edges. We show that the two critical infection rates in the quenched and annealed cases are equal with probability one and are asymptotically equal to $(dp)^{-1}$ as the dimension $d$ grows to infinity, where $p$ is the probability of edge `open'.
We consider the model of random trees introduced by Devroye (1999), the so-called random split trees. The model encompasses many important randomized algorithms and data structures. We then perform supercritical Bernoulli bond-percolation on those trees and obtain a precise weak limit theorem for the sizes of the largest clusters. We also show that the approach developed in this work may be useful for studying percolation on other classes of trees with logarithmic height, for instance, we study also the case of $d$-regular trees.
We consider Bernoulli percolation on a locally finite quasi-transitive unimodular graph and prove that two infinite clusters cannot have infinitely many pairs of vertices at distance 1 from one another or, in other words, that such graphs exhibit ``cluster repulsion.'' This partially answers a question of Häggström, Peres and Schonmann.
We consider a weighted random walk on the backbone of an oriented percolation cluster. We determine necessary conditions on the weights for Brownian scaling limits under the annealed and the quenched law. This model is a random walk in dynamic random environment (RWDRE), where the environment is mixing, non-Markovian and not elliptic. We provide a generalization of results obtained previously by Birkner et al. (2013).
We study a continuous time random walk on the $d$-dimensional lattice, subject to a drift and an attraction to large clusters of a subcritical Bernoulli site percolation. We find two distinct regimes: a ballistic one, and a subballistic one taking place when the attraction is strong enough. We identify the speed in the former case, and the algebraic rate of escape in the latter case. Finally, we discuss the diffusive behavior in the case of zero drift and weak attraction.
We consider critical percolation on Galton-Watson trees and prove quenched analogues of classical theorems of critical branching processes. We show that the probability critical percolation reaches depth $n$ is asymptotic to a tree-dependent constant times $n^{-1}$. Similarly, conditioned on critical percolation reaching depth $n$, the number of vertices at depth $n$ in the critical percolation cluster almost surely converges in distribution to an exponential random variable with mean depending only on the offspring distribution. The incipient infinite cluster (IIC) is constructed for a.e. Gal…
We study invasion percolation in two dimensions. We compare connectivity properties of the origin's invaded region to those of (a) the critical percolation cluster of the origin and (b) the incipient infinite cluster. To exhibit similarities, we show that for any $k\geq1$, the $k$-point function of the first so-called pond has the same asymptotic behavior as the probability that $k$ points are in the critical cluster of the origin. More prominent, though, are the differences. We show that there are infinitely many ponds that contain many large disjoint $p_c$-open clusters. Further, for $k>1$, …
We consider an i.i.d. supercritical bond percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, every edge is open with a probability $p > p_c (d)$, where $p_c (d)$ denotes the critical parameter for this percolation. We know that there exists almost surely a unique infinite open cluster $C_p$ [7]. We are interested in the regularity properties in p of the anchored isoperimetric profile of the infinite cluster $C_p$. For $d\ge2$, we prove that the anchored isoperimetric profile defined in [4] is Lipschitz continuous on all intervals $[p_0 , p_1 ] \subset (p_c (d), 1)$.
In this paper, we alternately obtain the almost sure uniqueness of the infinite open cluster in bond percolation in $\mathbb{Z}^d, d \geq 2,$ without requiring the use of ergodicity of translation action. If $N$ denotes the number of infinite open clusters, we use the Burton-Keane argument to get $N \in \{0,1,2\}$ a.s. and then use a pivotal edges argument to obtain that $N \in \{0,1\}$ a.s.
In this paper, we consider random trees associated with the genealogy of Crump-Mode-Jagers processes and perform Bernoulli bond-percolation whose parameter depends on the size of the tree. Our purpose is to show the existence of a giant percolation cluster for appropriate regimes as the size grows. We stress that the family trees of Crump-Mode-Jagers processes include random recursive trees, preferential attachment trees, binary search trees for which this question has been answered by Bertoin, as well as (more general) m-ary search trees, fragmentation trees, median-of-(2l+1) binary search tr…
In this note we study some properties of infinite percolation clusters on non-amenable graphs. In particular, we study the percolative properties of the complement of infinite percolation clusters. An approach based on mass-transport is adapted to show that for a large class of non-amenable graphs, the graph obtained by removing each site contained in an infinite percolation cluster has critical percolation threshold which can be arbitrarily close to the critical threshold for the original graph, almost surely, as p approaches p_c. Closely related is the self-destructive percolation process, i…
We consider the simple random walk on supercritical percolation clusters in the multidimensional cubic lattice. In this model, a quenched large deviation principle holds for the position of the random walk. Its rate function depends on the law of the percolation configuration, and the aim of this paper is to study the continuity of the rate function in the law. To do this, it is useful that the rate function is expressed by the so-called Lyapunov exponent, which is the asymptotic cost paid by the random walk for traveling in a landscape of percolation configurations. In this context, we first …
We consider a directed random walk on the backbone of the infinite cluster generated by supercritical oriented percolation, or equivalently the space-time embedding of the ``ancestral lineage'' of an individual in the stationary discrete-time contact process. We prove a law of large numbers and an annealed central limit theorem (i.e., averaged over the realisations of the cluster) using a regeneration approach. Furthermore, we obtain a quenched central limit theorem (i.e.\ for almost any realisation of the cluster) via an analysis of joint renewals of two independent walks on the same cluster.
We consider the standard model of i.i.d. bond percolation on $\mathbb Z^d$ of parameter $p$. When $p>p_c$, there exists almost surely a unique infinite cluster $\mathcal C_p$. Using the recent techniques of Cerf and Dembin, we prove that the variance of the graph distance in $\mathcal C_p$ between two points of $\mathcal C_p$ is sublinear. The main result extends the works of Benjamini, Kalai and Schramm, Benaim and Rossignol and Damron, Hanson and Sosoe for the study of the variance of passage times in first passage percolation without moment conditions on the edge-weight distribution.
Consider bond percolation on the square lattice. Let ${\cal C}$ be the incipient infinite cluster with the incipient measure $ν$. If a one-arm path exponent exists and equals $5/48$, it is well known that $E_ν|{\cal C}\cup [-n,n]^2| = n^{ 91/48+o(1)}$. In this paper, we focus on the variance of $|{\cal C}\cup [-n,n]^2|$ and show that $σ^2_ν(|{\cal C}\cup [-n,n]^2|)= n^{91/24+o(1)}$.
We prove that for a non-amenable, locally finite, connected, transitive, planar graph with one end, any automorphism invariant site percolation on the graph does not have exactly 1 infinite 1-cluster and exactly 1 infinite 0-cluster a.s. If we further assume that the site percolation is insertion-tolerant and a.s.~there exists a unique infinite 0-cluster, then a.s.~there are no infinite 1-clusters. The proof is based on the analysis of a class of delicately constructed interfaces between clusters and contours. Applied to the case of i.i.d.~Bernoulli site percolation on infinite, connected, loc…
Starting with a percolation model in $\Z^d$ in the subcritical regime, we consider a random walk described as follows: the probability of transition from $x$ to $y$ is proportional to some function $f$ of the size of the cluster of $y$. This function is supposed to be increasing, so that the random walk is attracted by bigger clusters. For $f(t)=e^{βt}$ we prove that there is a phase transition in $β$, i.e., the random walk is subdiffusive for large $β$ and is diffusive for small $β$.
We obtain Gaussian upper and lower bounds on the transition density q_t(x,y) of the continuous time simple random walk on a supercritical percolation cluster C_{\infty} in the Euclidean lattice. The bounds, analogous to Aronsen's bounds for uniformly elliptic divergence form diffusions, hold with constants c_i depending only on p (the percolation probability) and d. The irregular nature of the medium means that the bound for q_t(x,\cdot) holds only for t\ge S_x(ω), where the constant S_x(ω) depends on the percolation configuration ω.
In first-passage percolation, one assigns i.i.d. nonnegative weights $(t_e)$ to the edges of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and studies the induced distance (passage time) $T(x,y)$ between vertices $x$ and $y$. It is known that for $d=2$, the fluctuations of $T(x,y)$ are at least order $\sqrt{\log |x-y|}$ under mild assumptions on $t_e$. We study the question of fluctuation lower bounds for $T_n$, the minimal passage time between two opposite sides of an $n$ by $n$ square. The main result is that, under a curvature assumption, this quantity has fluctuations at least of order $n^{1/8-ε}$ for any $ε>0$ when the…
We study the heat kernel and the Green's function on the infinite supercritical percolation cluster in dimension $d \geq 2$ and prove a quantitative homogenization theorem for these functions with an almost optimal rate of convergence. These results are a quantitative version of the local central limit theorem proved by Barlow and Hambly. The proof relies on a structure of renormalization for the infinite percolation cluster introduced by Armstrong and the first author, Gaussian bounds on the heat kernel established by Barlow and tools of the theory of quantitative stochastic homogenization. A…
We study non-random fluctuation in the first passage percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and show that it diverges for any dimension. We also prove the divergence of the non-random shape fluctuation, which was conjectured in [Yu Zhang. The divergence of fluctuations for shape in first passage percolation. {\em Probab. Theory. Related. Fields.} 136(2) 298--320, 2006].
We study the shape fluctuation in the first passage percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. It is known that it diverges when the distribution obeys Bernoulli in [Yu Zhang. The divergence of fluctuations for shape in first passage percolation. Probab. Theory. Related. Fields. 136(2) 298-320, 2006]. In this paper, we extend the result to general distributions.
The theorem of Dekking and Host regarding tightness around the mean of first passage percolation on the binary tree, from the root to a boundary of a ball, is generalized to a class of graphs which includes all lattices in hyperbolic spaces and the lamplighter graph over N. This class of graphs is closed under product with any bounded degree graph. Few open problems and conjectures are gathered at the end.
We consider the random walk on supercritical percolation clusters in the d-dimensional Euclidean lattice. Previous papers have obtained Gaussian heat kernel bounds, and a.s. invariance principles for this process. We show how this information leads to a parabolic Harnack inequality, a local limit theorem and estimates on the Green's function.
We study the robustness under perturbations of mixing times, by studying mixing times of random walks in percolation clusters inside boxes in $\Z^d$. We show that for $d \geq 2$ and $p > p_c(\Z^d)$, the mixing time of simple random walk on the largest cluster inside $\{-n,...,n\}^d$ is $Θ(n^2)$ - thus the mixing time is robust up to constant factor.
