A NJL Lagrangian extended to six and eight quark interactions is applied to study temperature effects (SU(3) flavor limit, massless case), and (realistic massive case). The transition temperature can be considerably reduced as compared to the standard approach, in accordance with recent lattice calculations. The mesonic spectra built on the spontaneously broken vacuum induced by the 't Hooft interaction strength, as opposed to the commonly considered case driven by the four-quark coupling, undergoes a rapid crossover to the unbroken phase, with a slope and at a temperature which is regulated by the strength of the OZI violating eight-quark interactions. This strength can be adjusted in consonance with the four-quark coupling and leaves the spectra unchanged, except for the sigma meson mass, which decreases. A first order transition behavior is also a possible solution within the present approach.
A new general parameterization with eight mixing parameters among Z, gamma and an extra neutral gauge boson Z' is proposed and subjected to phenomenological analysis. We show that in addition to the conventional Weinberg angle theta_W, there are seven other phenomenological parameters G', xi, eta, theta_l, theta_r, r, l for the most general Z-gamma-Z' mixings, in which parameter G' arises due to the presence of an extra Stueckelberg-type mass coupling. Combined with the conventional Z-Z' mass mixing angle theta', the remaining six parameters xi, eta, theta_l-theta', theta_r-theta', r, l are ca…
In this work, we explore the possible existence of several critical endpoints in the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter using an extended PNJL model with 't Hooft determinant and eight quark interactions in the up, down and strange sectors. Besides, we also study the isentropic trajectories crossing both (light and strange) chiral phase transitions and around the critical endpoint in both the crossover and first-order transition regions.
It is shown that the endpoint of the first order transition line which merges into a crossover regime in the phase diagram of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, extended to include the six-quark 't Hooft and eight-quark interaction Lagrangians, is pushed towards vanishing chemical potential and higher temperatures with increasing strength of the OZI-violating eight-quark interactions. We clarify a connection between the location of the endpoint in the phase diagram and the mechanism of chiral symmetry breaking at the quark level. Constraints on the coupling strengths based on groundstate stability…

We continue our study of spectroscopy data for the SU(3) gauge theory with eight fundamental fermions, motivated by the effective field theory framework of dilaton chiral perturbation theory (dChPT). At leading order dChPT predicts a constant mass anomalous dimension $γ_m$, consistent with the assumed proximity of an infrared fixed point. For the relatively large fermion masses simulated by the LatKMI collaboration, the influence of the infrared fixed point diminishes, and our fits suggest that $γ_m$ starts running. Since a complete higher-order analysis is not feasible with presently availabl…

We show how the 8q interactions affect the number of effective qua…
We present new lattice investigations of finite-temperature transitions for SU(3) gauge theory with Nf=8 light flavors. Using nHYP-smeared staggered fermions we are able to explore renormalized couplings $g^2 \lesssim 20$ on lattice volumes as large as $48^3 \times 24$. Finite-temperature transitions at non-zero fermion mass do not persist in the chiral limit, instead running into a strongly coupled lattice phase as the mass decreases. That is, finite-temperature studies with this lattice action require even larger $N_T > 24$ to directly confirm spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking.
We study an SU(3) gauge theory with Nf=8 degenerate flavors of light fermions in the fundamental representation. Using the domain wall fermion formulation, we investigate the light hadron spectrum, chiral condensate and electroweak S parameter. We consider a range of light fermion masses on two lattice volumes at a single gauge coupling chosen so that IR scales approximately match those from our previous studies of the two- and six-flavor systems. Our results for the Nf=8 spectrum suggest spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, though fits to the fermion mass dependence of spectral quantities do…
In search for a composite Higgs boson (techni-dilaton) in the walking technicolor, we present our preliminary results on the first observation of a light flavor-singlet scalar in a candidate theory for the walking technicolor, the Nf=8 QCD, which was found in our previous paper to have spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking together with remnants of the conformality. Based on simulations with the HISQ-type action on several lattice sizes with various fermion masses, we find evidence of a flavor-singlet scalar meson with mass comparable to that of the Nambu-Goldstone pion in both the small fermio…
Several relevant thermodynamic observables obtained within the (2+1) flavor and spin zero NJL and PNJL models with inclusion of the 't Hooft determinant and $8q$ interactions are compared with lattice-QCD (lQCD) results. In the case that a small ratio $R=\frac{μ_B}{T_c}\sim 3$ at the critical end point (CEP) associated with the hadron gas to quark-gluon plasma transition is considered, combined with fits to the lQCD data of the trace anomaly[1], subtracted light quark condensate[1] and continuum extrapolated data of the light quark chiral condensate[2], a reasonable description for the PNJL mo…
We present our lattice studies of SU(3) gauge theory with $N_f$ = 8 degenerate fermions in the fundamental representation. Using nHYP-smeared staggered fermions we study finite-temperature transitions on lattice volumes as large as $L^3 \times N_t = 48^3 \times 24$, and the zero-temperature composite spectrum on lattice volumes up to $64^3 \times 128$. The spectrum indirectly indicates spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, but finite-temperature transitions with fixed $N_t \leq 24$ enter a strongly coupled lattice phase as the fermion mass decreases, which prevents a direct confirmation of spo…
We analyze the spectral moments of the V-A two-point correlation function. Using all known short-distance constraints and the most recent experimental data from tau decays, we determine the lowest spectral moments, trying to assess the uncertainties associated with the so-called violations of quark-hadron duality. We have generated a large number of "acceptable" spectral functions, satisfying all conditions, and have used them to extract the wanted hadronic parameters through a careful statistical analysis. We obtain accurate values for the ChPT couplings L10 and C87, and a realistic determina…
The quark-hadron phase transition at finite baryon chemical potential is investigated in the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in which the scalar-vector eight-point interaction is included holding the chiral symmetry. By comparing a pressure of the symmetric nuclear matter with that of the quark matter, the realized phase at given baryon density is determined. As a result, the first order quark-hadron phase transition is derived where the deconfinement transition occurs after the chiral symmetry restoration in this model.
We analyse the effects of the light and strange current quark masses on the phase diagram of QCD at finite temperature and vanishing baryonic chemical potential, computing the speed of sound, the trace anomaly of the energy momentum tensor and the fluctuations and correlations of the conserved charges associated to baryonic, electric and strangeness numbers. The framework is a known extension of the three flavor Nambu Jona Lasinio model, which includes the full set of explicit chiral symmetry breaking interactions (ESB) up to the same order in large $N_c$ counting as the 't Hooft flavor mixing…
We present a new unification of the electro-weak and gravitational interactions based on the joining the weak SU(2) gauge fields with the left handed part of the space-time connection, into a single gauge field valued in the complexification of the local Lorentz group. Hence, the weak interactions emerge as the right handed chiral half of the space-time connection, which explains the chirality of the weak interaction. This is possible, because, as shown by Plebanski, Ashtekar, and others, the other chiral half of the space-time connection is enough to code the dynamics of the gravitational deg…
Baryon to meson transition distribution amplitudes (TDAs) extend the concept of generalized parton distributions. Baryon to meson TDAs appear as building blocks in the collinear factorized description of amplitudes for a class of hard exclusive reactions, prominent examples of which being hard exclusive meson electroproduction off a nucleon in the backward region and baryon-antibaryon annihilation into a meson and a lepton pair. We study the general properties of these objects following from the underlying symmetries of QCD. In particular, the Lorentz symmetry results in the polynomiality prop…
We extend earlier studies of transverse Ward-Fradkin-Green-Takahashi identities in QED, their usefulness to constrain the transverse fermion-boson vertex and their importance for multiplicative renormalizability, to the equivalent gauge identities in QCD. To this end, we consider transverse Slavnov-Taylor identities that constrain the transverse quark-gluon vertex and derive its eight associated scalar form factors. The complete vertex can be expressed in terms of the quark's mass and wave-renormalization functions, the ghost-dressing function, the quark-ghost scattering amplitude and a set of…
We call attention to a class of current-quark mass dependent multi-quark interaction terms which break explicitly the chiral $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ and $U_A(1)$ symmetries. They complete the set of effective quark interactions that contribute at the same order in $N_c$ as the 't Hooft flavor determinant interaction and the eight quark interactions in the phase of spontaneously broken chiral symmetry. The $N_c$ classification scheme matches the counting rules based on arguments set by the scale of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. Together with the leading in $N_c$ four quark Nambu-Jona-La…
We predict the spectrum of the four $1S$ and eight $1P$ nonstrange and strange states in the beauty meson family in the context of effective field theory. By the union of heavy quark effective theory and chiral perturbation theory, the mass formalisms for the heavy-light mesons are defined. Our analysis uses mass expressions involving, for the first time, the full leading self-energy corrections and leading power corrections to the heavy quark and chiral limits. The counterterms present in these expressions are fitted using available experimental and theoretical information on the charmed meso…
The quark-hadron phase transition at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential is investigated in an extended NJL model with scalar-vector eight-point interaction by comparing the pressure of symmetric nuclear matter with that of the quark matter. As a result, the extended NJL phase diagram is obtained in the temperature-baryon chemical potential plane and the effects of the scalar-vector coupling constant G_{sv}^q on the chiral phase transition are summarized. It is shown that a quarkyonic-like phase in which the chiral symmetry is restored but the elementary excitation modes are nucle…
We study the strangeness $S=-2$ baryon-baryon interactions in relativistic chiral effective field theory at leading order. Among the 15 relevant low energy constants, eight of them are determined by fitting to the state of the art lattice QCD data of the HAL QCD Collaboration (with $m_π=146$ MeV), and the rest are either taken from the study of the $S=-1$ hyperon-nucleon systems, assuming strict SU(3) flavor symmetry, or temporarily set equal to zero. Using the so-obtained low energy constants, we extrapolate the results to the physical point, and show that they are consistent with the availab…
As part of our ongoing investigations of QCD with many flavors of quarks, here we report on studies of the finite temperature phase transition for eight-flavor QCD with the DBW2 gauge action and naïve staggered fermions. We find a clear first order phase transition between the chirally asymmetric phase at zero temperature and the chirally symmetric phase at finite temperature, signaled by a two-state signal for $\langle\barψψ\rangle$ at a non-zero temperature. We see this signal at a gauge coupling of $β=0.54$, where, to set the scale, the zero temperature value for $f_π$, in the chiral limit,…
The phase structure of two-flavor QCD is explored for thermal systems with finite baryon- and isospin-chemical potentials, mu_B and mu_{iso}, by using the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model. The PNJL model with the scalar-type eight-quark interaction can reproduce lattice QCD data at not only mu_{iso}=mu_B=0 but also mu_{iso}>0 and mu_B=0. In the mu_{iso}-mu_{B}-T space, where T is temperature, the critical endpoint of the chiral phase transition in the mu_B-T plane at mu_{iso}=0 moves to the tricritical point of the pion-superfluidity phase transition in the mu_{iso}-T pl…
