We prove the existence of periodic solutions in a class of nonlinear partial differential equations, including the nonlinear Schroedinger equation, the nonlinear wave equation, and the nonlinear beam equation, in higher dimension. Our result covers cases where the bifurcation equation is infinite-dimensional, such as the nonlinear Schroedinger equation with zero mass, for which solutions which at leading order are wave packets are shown to exist.
We study conditions for the abstract periodic linear functional differential equation $\dot{x}=Ax+F(t)x_t+f(t)$ to have almost periodic with the same structure of frequencies as $f$. The main conditions are stated in terms of the spectrum of the monodromy operator associated with the equation and the frequencies of the forcing term $f$. The obtained results extend recent results on the subject. A discussion on how the results could be extended to the case when $A$ depends on $t$ is given.
We prove an $L^p$-version of the limiting absoprtion principle for a class of periodic elliptic differential operators of second order. The result is applied to the construction of nontrivial solutions of nonlinear Helmholtz equations with periodic coefficient functions.
In this paper we investigate the $L^p$-boundedness of certain classes of periodic pseudo-differential operators. The operators considered arise from the study of symbols on $\mathbb{T}^n\times\mathbb{Z}^n$ with limited regularity.
In this paper, we studied quasi-periodic and almost periodic homogenizations of integro-differential equations with Levy operators, which contain alpha stable Levy densities. This is the intermediate stage between the periodic homogenization and the stochastic homogenization of the non-local problem, and is the straight forward generalization of the case of partial differential equations.
We show the existence of Hölder continuous periodic solution with compact support in time of the Boussinesq equations with partial viscosity. The Hölder regularity of the solution we constructed is anisotropic which is compatible with partial viscosity of the equations.
In this paper, we show the existence of function which is not S-asymptotically omega-periodic, but which is S-asymptotically omega-periodic in the Stepanov sense. We give sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of S-asymptotically omega-periodic solutions for a nonautonomous differential equation with piecewise constant argument in a Banach space when omega is an integer. This is done using the Banach fixed point Theorem. An example involving the heat operator is discussed as an illustration of the theory.
We consider the Calderòn problem in an infinite cylindrical domain, whose cross section is a bounded domain of the plane. We prove log-log stability in the determination of the isotropic periodic conductivity coefficient from partial Dirichlet data and partial Neumann boundary observations of the solution.
In this paper, we study the rate of convergence in periodic homogenization of scalar ordinary differential equations. We provide a quantitative error estimate between the solutions of a first-order ordinary differential equation with rapidly oscillating coefficients and the limiting homogenized solution. As an application of our result, we obtain an error estimate for the solution of some particular linear transport equations.
A first order differential equation with a periodic operator coefficient acting in a pair of Hilbert spaces is considered. This setting models both elliptic equations with periodic coefficients in a cylinder and parabolic equations with time periodic coefficients. Our main results are a construction of a pointwise projector and a spectral splitting of the system into a finite dimensional system of ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients and an infinite dimensional part whose solutions have better properties in a certain sense. This complements the well-known asymptotic resul…
We study resolvent approximations for elliptic differential nonselfadjoint operators with periodic coefficients in the limit of the small period. The class of operators covered by our analysis includes uniformly elliptic families with bounded coefficients and also with unbounded coefficients from the John-Nirenberg space $BMO$ (bounded mean oscillation). We apply the modified method of the first approximation with the usage of Steklov's smoothing.
In this paper, under Acquistpace-Terreni conditions, we make extensive use of interpolation spaces and exponential dichotomy techniques to obtain the existence of weighted pseudo almost periodic solutions to some classes of nonautonomous partial evolution equations. Applications include the existence of weighted pseudo almost periodic solutions to a nonautonomous heat equation with gradient coefficients.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the Cauchy problem for the periodic fifth order KP-I equation \[\partial_t u - \partial_x^5 u -\partial_x^{-1}\partial_y^2u + u\partial_x u = 0,~(t,x,y)\in\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}^2\] We prove global well-posedness for constant $x$ mean value initial data in the space $\mathbb{E} = \{u\in L^2,~\partial_x^2 u \in L^2,~\partial_x^{-1}\partial_y u \in L^2\}$ which is the natural energy space associated with this equation.
We study the asymptotic behaviour, as the small parameter $\varepsilon$ tends to zero, of the resolvents of uniformly elliptic second-order differential operators with locally periodic coefficients depending on the slow variable $x$ and the fast variable $x/\varepsilon$, with periodicity only in the fast variable. We provide a construction for the leading terms in the operator asymptotics of these resolvents in the sense of $L^2$-operator-norm convergence with order $\varepsilon^2$ remainder estimates. We apply the modified method of the first approximation with the usage of the shift.
In this article, we address the Cauchy problem for the KP-I equation \[\partial_t u + \partial_x^3 u -\partial_x^{-1}\partial_y^2u + u\partial_x u = 0\] for functions periodic in $y$. We prove global well-posedness of this problem for any data in the energy space $\mathbb{E} = \left\{u\in L^2\left(\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}\right),~\partial_x u \in L^2\left(\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}\right),~\partial_x^{-1}\partial_y u \in L^2\left(\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}\right)\right\}$. We then prove that the KdV line soliton, seen as a special solution of KP-I equation, is orbitally stable under this flo…
The main objective of this paper is twofold. We first show that if the doubly-weighted Bohr spectrum of an almost periodic function exists, then it is either empty or coincides with the Bohr spectrum of that function. Next, we investigate the problem which consists of the existence of doubly-weighted pseudo-almost periodic solutions to some nonautonomous abstract differential equations.
We study the inverse problem of identifying a periodic potential perturbation of the Dirichlet Laplacian acting in an infinite cylindrical domain, whose cross section is assumed to be bounded. We prove log-log stable determination of the potential with respect to the partial Dirichlet-to-Neumann map, where the Neumann data is taken on slightly more than half of the boundary of the domain.
For two linear evolution differential equations systems - a normal ordinary differential equations system and a partial differential equations system with Stokes operator in a main part - with rapidly oscillating by time coefficients in a case of an averaged stationary operator multiple degeneracy time-periodic solutions problem was considered. The results about their existence and uniqueness were proved and their asymptotic expansions were constructed and proved. Moreover, for normal ordinary differential equations system the convergence of the asymptotic expansion was proved in the ordinary …
In this paper, we study the large time behavior of the 3-D isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equation in the partial space-periodic domains, and simultaneously show that the related profile systems can be described by like Navier-Stokes equations with suitable "pressure" functions in lower dimensions. Our proofs are based on the energy methods together with some delicate analysis on the corresponding linearized problems.
We consider weak solutions to dispersive partial differential equations with periodic boundary conditions and initial data with jump discontinuities. These are already known to be continuous at irrational times and piecewise constant at rational times; we show that as time approaches a rational value the solution exhibits a ringing effect, with the characteristic overshoot of fixed amplitude near the discontinuities. Furthermore this effect is the same whether the sequence of times follows rational or irrational values.

We prove local well-posedness of partially periodic and periodic modified KP-I equations, namely for $\partial_t u+(-1)^{\frac{l+1}{2}}\partial^l_x u-\partial_x^{-1}\partial_y^2 u+u^2\partial_x u=0$ in the anisotropic Sobolev space $H^{s,s}(\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T})$ if $l=3$ and $s>2$, in $H^{s,s}(\mathbb{T}\times \mathbb{T})$ if $l=3$ and $s>\frac{19}{8}$, and in $H^{s,s}(\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T})$ if $l=5$ and $s>\frac{5}{2}$. All three results require the initial data to be small.
Thanks to the test function of Bian-Guan[2], we successfully obtain a constant rank theorem for partial convex solutions of a class partial differential equations. This is the microscopic version of the macroscopic partial convexity principle in [1], and also is a generalization of the result in [2].
We use the method of synthetic differential geometry to revisit the geometric reasoning employed by Lie, Klein and others in their study of partial differential equations.
We consider the inverse boundary value problem for operators of the form $-\triangle+q$ in an infinite domain $Ω=\mathbb{R}\timesω\subset\mathbb{R}^{1+n}$, $n\geq3$, with a periodic potential $q$. For Dirichlet-to-Neumann data localized on a portion of the boundary of the form $Γ_1=\mathbb{R}\timesγ_1$, with $γ_1$ being the complement either of a flat or spherical portion of $\partialω$, we prove that a log-type stability estimate holds.
We consider first-order linear systems of ordinary differential equations with periodic coefficients. Supposing that right-hand sides of equations are not known and subjected to some quadratic restrictions, we obtain optimal, in certain sense, estimates of solutions to above-mentioned problems from indirect noisy observations of these solutions on a finite system of points and intervals.
Lie symmetry analysis is an established method for generating symmetries of differential equations. We apply this method together the generalized fundamental theorem of double reduction. In particular, Noether symmetries and some associated conservation laws are constructed in our investigation to find exact solutions of higher order partial differential equations and complex partial differential equations.
This article introduces the splitting method to systems responding to rough paths as external stimuli. The focus is on nonlinear partial differential equations with rough noise but we also cover rough differential equations. Applications to stochastic partial differential equations arising in control theory and nonlinear filtering are given.
We formulate stochastic partial differential equations on Riemannian manifolds, moving surfaces, general evolving Riemannian manifolds (with appropriate assumptions) and Riemannian manifolds with random metrics, in the variational setting of the analysis to stochastic partial differential equations. Considering mainly linear stochastic partial differential equations, we establish various existence and uniqueness theorems.
In this article, we begin a systematic study of the boundedness and the nuclearity properties of multilinear periodic pseudo-differential operators and multilinear discrete pseudo-differential operators on $L^p$-spaces. First, we prove analogues of known multilinear Fourier multipliers theorems (proved by Coifman and Meyer, Grafakos, Tomita, Torres, Kenig, Stein, Fujita, Tao, etc.) in the context of periodic and discrete multilinear pseudo-differential operators. For this, we use the periodic analysis of pseudo-differential operators developed by Ruzhansky and Turunen. Later, we investigate th…
We study the "periodic homogenization" for a class of nonlocal partial differential equations of parabolic-type with rapidly oscillating coefficients, related to stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative isotropic $α$-stable Lévy noise ($1<α<2$) which is nonlinear in the noise component. Our homogenization method is probabilistic. It turns out that, under suitable regularity assumptions, the limit of the solutions satisfies a nonlocal partial differential equation with constant coefficients, which are associated to a symmetric $α$-stable Lévy process.
