This paper studies the Casimir effect due to fractional massless Klein-Gordon field confined to parallel plates. A new kind of boundary condition called fractional Neumann condition which involves vanishing fractional derivatives of the field is introduced. The fractional Neumann condition allows the interpolation of Dirichlet and Neumann conditions imposed on the two plates. There exists a transition value in the difference between the orders of the fractional Neumann conditions for which the Casimir force changes from attractive to repulsive. Low and high temperature limits of Casimir energy and pressure are obtained. For sufficiently high temperature, these quantities are dominated by terms independent of the boundary conditions. Finally, validity of the temperature inversion symmetry for various boundary conditions is discussed.
The Casimir energy of quantum fluctuations about the classical kink configuration is computed numerically for a recently proposed lattice sine-Gordon model. This energy depends periodically on the kink position and is found to be approximately sinusoidal.
We present a quantum geometric framework for stochastic quantisation in the case of a free Klein-Gordon field on Euclidean space. In this approach the noise is part of the background space, spacetime is fuzzy. We extend the notion of sharp point limit and show how fuzzy spacetime and the Klein-Gordon field gives the Euclidean space and the stochastically quantised Klein-Gordon field respectively.
RG flow of central charge $c_{\rm eff}$ is investigated for the two boundary sine-Gordon model at the free Fermi limit. Thermodynamic Bethe ansatz approach is used to check the non-monotonic decreasing properties of $c_{\rm eff}$, its resonance, and the modification of $c_{\rm eff}$ due to the mismatch of the periodicity of a Lagrangian parameter and that of the boundary scattering parameter. The detailed analysis uses the singularity structure of the system on the complex rapidity plane.
In this contribution we study the Klein-Gordon oscillator on the curved background within the Kaluza-Klein theory. The problem of interaction between particles coupled harmonically with a topological defects in Kaluza-Klein theory is studied. We consider a series of topological defects, that treat the Klein-Gordon oscillator coupled to this background and find the energy levels and corresponding eigenfunctions in these cases. We show that the energy levels depend on the global parameters characterizing these spacetimes. We also investigate a quantum particle described by the Klein-Gordon oscil…
It is shown that the alternative Klein-Gordon equation with positive definite probability density proposed in a letter by M.D. Kostin does not meet the requirements of relativistic (quantum) field theory and therefore does not allow for a meaningful physical interpretation.
Witten's non-relativistic formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics was based on a factorization and partnership between Schroedinger equations. We show how it accommodates a transition to the partnership between relativistic Klein-Gordon equations. In such a class of models the requirement of supersymmetry is shown to lead to a certain "exceptional-point" instability of ground states.
Two-dimensional dilaton gravity coupled to a Klein-Gordon matter field with a quartic interaction term is considered. The theory has a classical solution which exhibits black hole formation by a soliton. The geometry of black hole induced by a soliton is investigated.
Recent studies show that deformations in quantum mechanics are inevitable. In this contribution, we consider a relativistic quantum mechanical differential equation in the presence of Dunkl operator-based deformation and we investigate solutions for two important problems in three-dimensional spatial space. To this end, after introducing the Dunkl quantum mechanics, we examine the Dunkl-Klein-Gordon oscillator solutions with the Cartesian and spherical coordinates. In both coordinate systems, we find that the differential equations are separable and their eigenfunctions can be given in terms o…
The difference between a Klein-Gordon random field and the complex Klein-Gordon quantum field is characterized, explicitly comparing the roles played by negative frequency modes of test functions in creation and annihilation operator presentations of the two theories. The random field and the complex quantum field can both be constructed from the same creation and annihilation operator algebra, making them equivalent in that sense.
We study spacetimes that lead to a separable Klein-Gordon equation in a general dimension. We introduce an ansatz for the metric in higher dimensions motivated by analogical work by Carter in four dimensions and find solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation. For such a metric we solve the Einstein equations and regain the Kerr-NUT-(A)dS spacetime as one of our results. Other solutions lead to the Einstein-Kähler metric of a Euclidean signature. Next we investigate a warped geometry of two Klein-Gordon separable spaces with a properly chosen warped factor. We show that the resulting metric leads …
We solve the Klein-Gordon equation for a step potential with hyperbolic tangent potential. The scattering solutions are derived in terms of hypergeometric functions. The reflection coefficient R and transmission coefficient T are calculated, we observed superradiance and transmission resonances.
We solve the one-dimensional time-independent Klein-Gordon equation in presence of a smooth potential well. The bound state solutions are given in terms of the Whittaker $M_{κ,μ}(x)$ function, and the antiparticle bound state is discussed in terms of potential parameters.
In this work, we study the generalized Klein-Gordon oscillator with interactions on a curved background within the Kaluza-Klein theory. We solve the generalized Klein-Gordon oscillator in the cosmic string space-time with a linear scalar potential and obtain the energy eigenvalue and corresponding eigenfunction. We show that the energy spectrum depends on the global parameters characterizing the space-time and the confining potential parameter. We also solve the generalized Klein-Gordon oscillator in a magnetic cosmic string background in the Kaluza-Klein theory with a linear scalar potential …
We solve the Klein-Gordon equation in the presence of a spatially one-dimensional cusp potential. The bound state solutions are derived and the antiparticle bound state is discussed.
We present a new complex non-stationary particle-like solution of the non-linear Klein-Gordon equation with several spatial variables. The construction is based on reduction to an ordinary differential equation.
In this paper it is shown that an equivalent to the complex Klein-Gordon equation can be obtained from the (2+3) dimensional Einstein equations coupled to a conserved energy momentum tensor. In an explicit toy model we give matching conditions for what corresponds to the phase, the amplitude, and the mass of the complex wave function.
Using methods in the theory of semisimple Lie algebras, we can obtain all smooth solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation on the 4-dimensional de Sitter spacetime (dS^4). The mass of a Klein-Gordon scalar on dS^4 is related to an eigenvalue of the Casimir operator of so(1,4). Thus it is discrete, or quantized. Furthermore, the mass m of a Klein-Gordon scalar on dS^4 is imaginary: m^2 being proportional to -N(N+3), with N >= 0 an integer.
We show how to deal with the generalized q-Schrödinger and q-Klein-Gordon fields in a variety of scenarios. These q-fields are meaningful at very high energies (TeVs) for for $q=1.15$, high ones (GeVs) for $q=1.001$, and low energies (MeVs)for $q=1.000001$ [Nucl. Phys. A {\bf 948} (2016) 19, Nucl. Phys. A {\bf 955} (2016) 16]. We develop here the quantum field theory (QFT) for the q-Schrödinger and q-Klein-Gordon fields, showing that both reduce to the customary Schrödinger and Klein-Gordon QFTs for q close to unity. Further, we analyze the q-Klein-Gordon field for $2q-1=n$ (n integer $\ge 2$)…
The substratum for physics can be seen microscopically as an ideal fluid pierced in all directions by the straight vortex filaments. Small disturbances of an isolated filament are considered. The Klein-Gordon equation without mass corresponds to elastic stretching of the filament. The wave function has the meaning of the curve's position vector. The mass part of the Klein-Gordon equation describes the rotation of the helical curve about the screw axis due to the hydrodynamic self-induction of the bent vortex filament.
A possible way for the consistent probability interpretation of the Klein-Gordon equation is proposed. It is assumed that some states of a scalar charged particle cannot be physically realized. The rest of quantum states are proven to have positive-definite probability distributions.
Employing a transformation to hyperbolic space, we derive in a simple way exact solutions for the Klein-Gordon equation in an infinite square-well potential with one boundary moving at constant velocity, for the massless as well as for the massive case.
We give an explicit construction of a positive-definite invariant inner-product for the Klein-Gordon fields, thus solving the old problem of the probability interpretation of Klein-Gordon fields without having to restrict to the subspaces of the positive-frequency solutions. Our method has a much wider domain of application and may be used to obtain the most general invariant inner-product on the solution space of a broad class of Klein-Gordon type evolution equations. We explore its consequences for the solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation associated with the FRW-massive-real-scalar-field…
