A quantity that promises to reveal important information on perturbative and non-perturbative QCD dynamics is the azimuthal decorrelation between jets in different hard processes. In order to access this information fixed-order NLO predictions need to be supplemented by resummation of logarithmic terms which are large in the region where the jets are nearly back-to-back in azimuth. In the present letter we carry out this resummation to next-to--leading logarithmic accuracy explaining the important role played by the recombination scheme in general resummations for such jet observables.
In this talk we examine the azimuthal angle decorrelation in dijet production at large rapidity intervals at the Tevatron as a possible signature of the BFKL evolution.
We study the azimuthal angle decorrelation of forward jets in Deep Inelastic Scattering. We make predictions for this observable at HERA describing the high energy limit of the relevant scattering amplitudes with quasi-multi-Regge kinematics together with a collinearly improved evolution kernel for multiparton emissions.
In this contribution we study azimuthal angle decorrelation in inclusive dijet cross sections taking into account the next-to-leading (NLO) corrections to the BFKL kernel while keeping the jet vertices at leading order. We show how the angular decorrelation for jets with a wide relative separation in rapidity largely decreases when the NLO corrections are included.
We report on the status of the QCD analysis of dijet azimuthal decorrelations. We emphasise the relevance of resummation of soft and collinear enhancements in describing these observables in the region where the two jets are nearly back-to-back in the transverse plane. We also discuss the sources of theoretical uncertainties and possible research directions aimed at their reduction.
Azimuthal angle decorrelation in inclusive dijet cross sections is studied analytically to take into account the next-to-leading corrections to the BFKL kernel while keeping the jet vertices at leading order. The spectral representation on the basis of leading order eigenfunctions is generalized to include the dependence on conformal spins. With this procedure running coupling effects and angular dependences are both included. It is shown how the angular decorrelation for jets with a wide relative separation in rapidity largely decreases at this higher order in the resummation.
We study the decorrelation in azimuthal angle of Mueller-Navelet jets at hadron colliders within the BFKL formalism. We introduce NLO terms in the evolution kernel and present a collinearly-improved version of it for all conformal spins. We show how this further resummation has good convergence properties and is closer to the Tevatron data than a simple LO treatment. However, we are still far from a good fit. We offer estimates of these decorrelations for larger rapidity differences which should favor the onset of BFKL effects and encourage experimental studies of this observable at the LHC.
We analyse the azimuthal decorrelation of Mueller-Navelet dijets produced in the collisions at Tevatron energies using a BFKL framework which incorporates dominant subleading effects. We show that these effects significantly reduce the decorrelation yet they are still insufficient to give satisfactory description of experimental data. However a good description of the data is obtained after incorporating within formalism the effective rapidity defined by Del Duca and Schmidt.
The azimuthal angular decorrelation that is relevant to small-x QCD physics is studied in this paper to show the BFKL effect with a recent event generator. Events are generated at \sqrt{s} = 100 TeV with proton-proton collisions and jets, that are reconstructed by the Anti-k_{T} algorithm (R=0.7), with p_{T}>35GeV and in the rapidity range of |y|<6 are selected for the study. The azimuthal-angle difference between Mueller-Navelet Jets (Δ\text{Φ} ) in the rapidity seperation (Δy) up to 12 is analysed. The distributions of <cosn(π-ΔΦ)> for n=1,2,3 and their ratio are also presented as a function…
We study inclusive dijet azimuthal decorrelations in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC invoking the hypothesis of parton Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energies. In the parton Reggeization approach, the main contribution to the azimuthal angle difference between the two most energetic jets is due to the Reggeon-Reggeon-Particle-Particle scattering, when the fusion of two Reggeized gluons into a pair of Yang-Mills gluons dominates. Using a high-energy factorization scheme with the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated parton distribution functions and the Fadin-Lipatov effective…
We study the production of Mueller-Navelet jets at hadron colliders in the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) framework. We show that a measurement of the relative azimuthal angle ΔΦbetween the jets can provide a good testing ground for corrections due to next-leading logarithms (NLL). Besides the well-known azimuthal decorrelation with increasing rapidity interval Δηbetween the jets, we propose to also measure this effect as a function of R=k_2/k_1, the ratio between the jets transverse momenta. Using renormalisation-group improved NLL kernel, we obtain predictions for dσ/dΔηdR dΔΦ. We anal…
We discuss the azimuthal angle decorrelation of Mueller-Navelet jets at hadron colliders and forward jets in Deep Inelastic Scattering within the BFKL framework with a NLO kernel. We stress the need of collinear improvements to obtain good perturbative convergence. We provide estimates of these decorrelations for large rapidity differences at the Tevatron, LHC and HERA.
Higher collision energies at future colliders may eventually lead to the falsification of standard fixed-order perturbation theory and linear evolutions due to non-linear structure of QCD at small-x. New physics researches that is strictly based on accurate jet measurements will undoubtedly have this observation known as BFKL effect via angular jet decorrelations taking into account the Mueller-Navelet jets. As one of the frontier colliders, FCC-ep, has a great observation potential on parton densities through asymmetrical collisions. We aim to test the observability of azimuthal angular jet d…
We revisit the azimuthal decorrelation $δϕ$ between a jet and a $Z$ boson produced at hadron colliders. Employing different recombination schemes for the jets leads to significantly different NLL-resummed predictions for the distribution of this quantity. Specifically when the jets are reconstructed with the $E$-scheme (i.e., four-momentum addition) in the $k_t$ or anti-$k_t$ clustering algorithms, then the resummation becomes highly non-trivial due to the presence of non-global and/or clustering logarithms. We evaluate these logarithms analytically at two loops and numerically to all orders i…
We point out an inconsistency in perturbative QCD predictions previously used for dijet azimuthal decorrelations for azimuthal angles of $Δϕ_{\rm dijet} < 2π/3$ between the two jets. We show how the inconsistency arises and how the calculations can be modified to provide more accurate results that exhibit a smaller scale dependence and give a better description of the data than the inconsistent results. We also explain how the quality of the predictions strongly depends on a perceivedly minor detail in the definition of the dijet phase space and give recommendations for future measurements.
We study the azimuthal angular decorrelation of the dijet production via photon fusion in ultra-peripheral heavy ion collisions. The impact parameter dependent cross section of quark-antiquark pairs production is derived using the equivalent photon approximation, and the contribution from final-state QCD radiations to the azimuthal angular distribution are calculated within Soft-Collinear Effective Theory. We carry out the QCD resummation of large logarithms of the azimuthal angle as well as the jet radius at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. In the end we present the normalized differenti…
Within A Multi-Phase Transport model, we investigate decorrelation of event planes over pseudorapidity and its effect on azimuthal anisotropy measurements in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The decorrelation increases with increasing η gap between particles used to reconstruct the event planes. The third harmonic event planes are found even anticorrelated between forward and backward rapidities, the source of which may root in the opposite orientation of the collision geometry triangularities. The decorrelation may call into question the anisotropic flow measurements with pseudorapidity gap…
We present a new observable, $Δϕ$, an azimuthal angle difference between $t$ and $\bar{t}$ quarks in $t\bar{t}$ pair production, at hadron colliders as an interesting probe of the radiative quantum chromodynamics process as well as a high-order correction in the high-mass regime. This variable also enables good discrimination on some new physics models that may explain the forward-backward charge asymmetry of $t\bar{t}$ production measured at the Tevatron. With a reliable estimation of the dataset obtained up to 2011 at the Tevatron and Large Hadron Collider, we present an opportunity for test…
We introduce a new measurable quantity, $R_{Δϕ}$, for studies of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in hadron-hadron collisions. In pQCD, $R_{Δϕ}$ is computed as a ratio of three-jet and dijet cross sections in which the parton distribution functions cancel to a large extent. At the leading order, $R_{Δϕ}$ is proportional to $α_s$, and the transverse momentum dependence of can therefore be exploited to determine $α_s$. We compute the NLO pQCD theory predictions and non-perturbative corrections for $R_{Δϕ}$ at the LHC and the Tevatron and investiga…
Based on the color dipole QCD approach we discuss the multiple scattering mechanism (MSM) of suppression of back-to-back azimuthal correlations of high $p_{T}$ forward dijets in DIS off nuclei. We quantify the effect in terms of acoplanarity/decorrelation momentum of jets. For hard dijets the decorrelation momentum is found to be of the order of the nuclear saturation momentum $Q_A$. Minijets with the transverse momentum below the saturation scale are proved to be completely decorrelated. The analysis of DIS indicates that in heavy ion collisions the contribution of MSM to the reactions dynami…
The azimuthal decorrelation angle between the leading jet and scattered lepton in deep inelastic scattering is studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data was taken in the HERA II data-taking period and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 330 $\rm{pb^{-1}}$. Azimuthal angular decorrelation has been proposed to study the $Q^{2}$ dependence of the evolution of the transverse momentum distributions (TMDs) and understand the small-$x$ region, providing unique insight to nucleon structure. Previous decorrelation measurements of two jets have been performed in proton-proton collisions at…

We study associated production of prompt photon and two jets at high energies in the framework of the parton Reggeization approach, which is based on multi-Regge factorization of hard processes and Lipatov's effective theory of Reggeized gluons and quarks. In this approach, initial-state off-shell effects and transverse momenta of initial partons are included in a gauge-invariant way. We compute azimuthal angle difference spectra in $γ+ 2 jets$ events and compare results with data from D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron. It was found that agreement between predictions and data can be achieved on…
The azimuthal angle correlation of Mueller-Navelet jets at hadron colliders is studied in the NLO BFKL formalism. We highlight the need of collinear improvements in the kernel to obtain good convergence properties and we obtain better fits for the Tevatron data than at LO accuracy. We also estimate these correlations for larger rapidity differences available at the LHC.
The paper presents a system of nonlinear Lorentz-invariant equations. The behavior of their localized solutions is analogous to the processes of formation of azimuthal-anisotropic elliptical flows of quark-gluon plasma and hadron jets. In contrast to the hydrodynamic models of an ideal fluid, the elliptic flow in this model has a significant negative acceleration. The presence of the negative acceleration allows us to propose a hypothesis about the direct elliptic flow of photons as braking radiation QGP.
We investigate the azimuthal distribution of quark-antiquark jets in DIS diffractive dissociation with large transverse momentum. In this kinematical region the matrix element is expressed in terms of the gluon structure function. For the transverse part of the cross section we find a $\cos(2 ϕ)$-distribution with the maximum at $ϕ= \pm π/2$, i.e.\ the jets prefer a direction perpendicular to the electron plane. This is in contrast to boson gluon fusion where the $q\bar{q}$ jet cross section for transversely polarized bosons peaks at $ϕ=0$ and $ϕ=π$. We discuss the origin of this striking diff…

We evaluate differential cross sections for production of four jets in multi-Regge kinematics at a hadron collider. The main focus lies on azimuthal angle dependences. As in previous studies, the ratios of correlation functions of products of cosines of azimuthal angle differences among the tagged jets offer us the cleanest quantities to compare with experimental data. The calculations are based on the jet production from a single BFKL ladder with a convolution of three BFKL Green functions where we always have two forward/backward jets tagged in the final state. We also demand the tagging of …
Using a generalized parton model approach including spin and intrinsic parton motion effects, and assuming the validity of factorization for large p_T jet production in hadronic collisions, we study the azimuthal distribution around the jet axis of leading pions, produced in the jet fragmentation process. We identify the observable leading-twist azimuthal asymmetries for the unpolarized and single-polarized case related to both quark and gluon-originated jets. We account for all physically allowed combinations of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution and fragmentation fun…
Recently, new observables in LHC inclusive events with three tagged jets were proposed. Here, we extend that proposal to events with four tagged jets. The events are characterised by one jet in the forward direction, one in the backward direction with a large rapidity distance $Y$ from the first one and two more jets tagged in more central regions of the detector. In our setup, non-tagged associated mini-jet multiplicity is present and needs to be accounted for by the inclusion of BFKL gluon Green functions. The projection of the cross section on azimuthal-angle components opens up the opportu…
We evaluate the azimuthal asymmetries for the distributions of leading pions inside a jet, produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions, in kinematic configurations currently under active investigation at RHIC. Adopting a transverse momentum dependent approach, which assumes the validity of a perturbative QCD factorization scheme and takes into account all the spin and intrinsic parton motion effects, we show how the main mechanisms underlying these asymmetries, namely the Sivers and the Collins effects, can be disentangled. Furthermore, we consider the impact of color-gauge invariant init…
By making use of the hybrid collinear and high-energy factorization, where the BFKL resummation of leading and next-to-leading energy logarithms is combined with the standard description in terms of collinear parton densities, we compare predictions for Mueller-Navelet jet rapidity and angular differential rates with data collected by CMS at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. We provide an evidence that the study of azimuthal distributions, calculated as a Fourier sum of correlation moments and embodying the high-energy signal coming from all conformal-spin modes, permits us to overcome the well-known issues…
Annihilation process of proton and antiproton to guark antiquark pair accompanied by emission of two additional gluon jets with intermediate state of vector meson is considered.Strong azimuthal correlation is revealed of two gluonic jets, effectively created in the same plane. Some applications to cosmic ray events and to LHC experiments are discussed.
Recently, a new family of observables consisting of azimuthal-angle generalised ratios was proposed in a kinematical setup that resembles the usual Mueller-Navelet jets but with an additional tagged jet in the central region of rapidity. Non-tagged minijet activity between the three jets can affect significantly the azimuthal angle orientation of the jets and is accounted for by the introduction of two BFKL gluon Green functions. Here, we calculate the, presumably, most relevant higher order corrections to the observables by now convoluting the three leading-order jet vertices with two gluon G…
We consider within QCD collinear factorization the process $p+p\to {\rm jet} +{\rm jet} +X$, where two forward high-$p_T$ jets are produced with a large separation in rapidity $Δy$ (Mueller-Navelet jets [1]). The hard part of the reaction receives large higher-order corrections $\sim α^n_s (Δy)^n$, which can be accounted for in the BFKL approach. We calculate cross section and azimuthal decorrelation, using the next-to-leading order jet vertices, in the small-cone approximation [2].
A Monte Carlo study of the azimuthal angular distribution around the virtual boson-proton beam axis for dijet events in DIS at HERA is presented. In the presence of typical acceptance cuts on the jets in the laboratory frame, the azimuthal distribution is dominated by kinematic effects rather than the typical $\cosϕ$ and $\cos 2ϕ$ dependence predicted by the QCD matrix elements. This implies that the $ϕ$ dependent part of the QCD matrix elements contributes even to the dijet production cross section. Neglecting this $ϕ$ dependence leads to an error of about 5-8\% in the production cross sectio…
We propose the study of new observables in LHC inclusive events with three tagged jets, one in the forward direction, one in the backward direction and both well-separated in rapidity from the each other (Mueller-Navelet jets), together with a third jet tagged in central regions of rapidity. Since non-tagged associated mini-jet multiplicity is allowed, we argue that projecting the cross sections on azimuthal-angle components can provide several distinct tests of the BFKL dynamics. Realistic LHC kinematical cuts are introduced.
An azimuthal angle correlation between the two hardest jets is studied in the ttbar production process at the 14 TeV LHC. The event samples are generated by merging the tree level matrix elements for the ttbar plus up to 2 or 3 partons with parton showers. The generated event samples show a strong correlation in the azimuthal angle difference between the two hardest jets, as predicted in the analysis based on the tree level matrix elements for the ttbar+2 partons. The effects of merging the matrix elements for the ttbar+3 partons on the correlation are studied in detail. It is found that they …
We investigate the Collins azimuthal asymmetry of hadrons produced inside jets in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions. Recently, the quark transversity distributions and the Collins fragmentation functions have been extracted within global analyses from data of the processes semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and electron-positron annihilation. We calculate the Collins azimuthal asymmetry for charged pions inside jets using these extractions for RHIC kinematics at center-of-mass energies of 200 and 500 GeV. We compare our results with recent data from the STAR Collaboration a…
We consider the recent proposal that the distribution of the difference between azimuthal angles of the two accompanying jets in gluon-fusion induced Higgs-plus-two-jet events at LHC reflects the CP of the Higgs boson produced. We point out that the hierarchy between the Higgs boson mass and the jet transverse energy makes this observable vulnerable to logarithmically enhanced higher-order perturbative corrections. We present an evolution equation that describes the scale variation of the azimuthal angular correlation for the two jets. The emission of extra partons leads to a significant suppr…
At lowest order in perturbation theory, the scattering matrix element for Higgs boson production in association with dijets displays a strong correlation in the azimuthal angle between the dijets, induced by the CP-properties of the Higgs Boson coupling. However, the phase space cuts necessary for a clean extraction of the CP-properties simultaneously induce large corrections from emissions of hard radiation and thus formation of extra jets. The current study concerns the generalization of CP-studies using the azimuthal angle between dijets beyond tree-level and to events with more than just t…
The azimuthal correlation, $Δϕ_{12}$, of high transverse momentum jets in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is studied by applying PB-TMD distributions to NLO calculations via MCatNLO together with the PB-TMD parton shower. A very good description of the cross section as a function of $Δϕ_{12}$ is observed. In the back-to-back region of $Δϕ_{12} \to π$, a very good agreement is observed with the PB-TMD Set 2 distributions while significant deviations are obtained with the PB-TMD Set 1 distributions. Set 1 uses the evolution scale while Set 2 uses transverse momentum as an argument in $α_s$, a…
The latest CMS jet measurements in p-p collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, sensitive to small-x QCD physics, are discussed. These include inclusive forward jet and simultaneous forward-central jet production, as well as production ratios and azimuthal angle decorrelations of jets widely separated in rapidity.
We investigate the use of jets to measure transverse momentum dependent distributions (TMDs). The example we use to present our framework is the dijet momentum decorrelation at lepton colliders. Translating this momentum decorrelation into an angle $θ\ll 1$, we analyze the factorization of the cross section for the cases $θ\gg R$, $θ\sim R$ and $θ\ll R$, where $R$ is the jet radius. Critically, for the Winner-Take-All axis, the jet TMD has the same double-scale renormalization group evolution as TMD fragmentation functions for all radii $R$. TMD fragmentation functions in factorization theorem…
Hadronic jets are extremely abundant at the LHC, and testing QCD in various corners of phase-space is important to understand backgrounds and some specific signatures of new physics. In this article, various measurements aiming at probing QCD in configurations where the theory modeling become challenging are presented. Azimuthal angle de-correlations are sensitive to hard as well as soft QCD emission, and in most of the events jets are produced in a back-to-back configuration. Events where jets have a large rapidity separation are also rare, and those without additional radiation between the j…
We study the correlation in azimuthal angle between Mueller-Navelet jets produced in hadron-hadron collisions. We argue that this observable would test the BFKL approach at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. In order to motivate such a measurement, we give predictions for jets separated by large rapidity intervals within the Tevatron and LHC ranges.
The parton branching formulation of TMD evolution has recently been used to make predictions for jet observables at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), including perturbative matching at next-to-leading order (NLO). This contribution presents results for the azimuthal Δ-ϕcorrelations in events with di-jets at large transverse momentum. It focuses on the back-to-back region of large Δ-ϕand discusses prospects for detailed studies of QCD dynamics in this region at the LHC.
Angular correlation of jets produced in association with a massive scalar, vector or tensor boson is crucial in the determination of their spin and CP properties. We study jet angular correlations in events with a high mass bottom quark pair or a top quark pair and two jets at the LHC, whose cross-section is dominated by the virtual gluon fusion sub-processes when appropriate kinematic selection cuts (vector-boson fusion cuts) are applied. We evaluate helicity amplitudes for sub-processes initiated by qq, qg and gg collisions in the limit where the intermediate gluons are collinear to the init…
The azimuthal decorrelation between a vector boson and a jet is an essential hard probe in high energy proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions. We overcome intrinsic limitations of previous studies by using a recoil-free axis, achieving unprecedented next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy with small nonperturbative corrections. This choice of axis also makes the observable robust in the presence of a large background. Furthermore, the azimuthal angle distribution is minimally changed when determined using only charged particle tracks, which offer superior angular resolution for precise me…
More than 25 years ago, Mueller and Navelet proposed to study the production of two jets separated by a large interval of rapidity at hadron colliders to look for high-energy resummation effects. We here present the results of a next-to-leading logarithmic BFKL study of the azimuthal decorrelation of these jets. This includes next-to-leading corrections both to the Green's function and to the jet vertices. We compare our results with recent LHC data and results obtained in a fixed order treatment.
The measurement of azimuthal correlations of Mueller-Navelet jets is generally considered as a decisive test to reveal the effect of BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders. The first experimental study of these correlations at the LHC has been recently performed by the CMS collaboration. We show that the ratios of cosine moments of the azimuthal distribution are successfully described within our next-to-leading logarithmic BFKL treatment. The whole set of CMS data for the azimuthal correlations can also be consistently described provided that one uses a larger renormalization/factorization scale th…
I report on the recent result of comparison of forward-forward dijet correlations in azimuthal angle as measured by the ATLAS collaboration in the proton-proton and proton-lead collisions to calculations within ITMD factorization framework [1]. The comparison shows that the broadening effect due to interplay of both the gluon saturation and the Sudakov resummation is necessary to describe the data.
Azimuthal angle correlations of the jets in Hjj events at the LHC provide a probe of the CP nature of Higgs couplings to gauge bosons. In weak boson fusion the HWW and HZZ couplings are tested. Gluon fusion processes probe the tensor structure of the effective Hgg vertex and thus the CP nature of the dominant quark couplings.
In this contribution we describe in some detail different aspects of the construction of BFKL cross sections. We focus on several effects which are relevant at next-to-leading order. In particular, we describe QCD coherence in DIS final states, improvements of the collinear region in multi-Regge kinematics, inclusive jet production at next-to-leading order, and azimuthal angle decorrelations of Mueller-Navelet jets at hadron colliders.
We discuss the impact of corrections beyond the leading-logarithmic accuracy on some recently proposed LHC observables that are based on azimuthal-angle ratios in a kinematical setup that is an extension to the usual one for Mueller-Navelet jets, after requiring an extra tagged jet in central regions of rapidity. The corrections tend to be mild which suggests that these observables are an excellent way to probe the onset of BFKL effects at hadronic colliders.
