We study the effects of strong magnetic fields on antikaon condensation in neutron star matter using the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. The QMC model describes a nuclear many-body system as nonoverlapping MIT bags in which quarks interact through the self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons in the mean-field approximation. It is found that the presence of strong magnetic fields alters the threshold density of antikaon condensation significantly. The onset of $K^-$ condensation stronger depends on the magnetic field strength, and it even shifts beyond the threshold of $\bar K^0$ condensation for sufficiently strong magnetic fields. In the presence of strong magnetic fields, the equation of state (EOS) becomes stiffer in comparison with the field-free case. The softening of the EOS by antikaon condensation also depends on the magnetic field strength, and it becomes less pronounced with increasing magnetic field strength. The results of the QMC model are compared with those obtained in a relativistic mean-field (RMF) model, and we find there are quantitative differences between the results of the QMC and RMF models.
We investigate the critical temperature of Bose-Einstein condensation of $K^-$ mesons in neutron star matter. This is studied within the framework of relativistic field theoretical models at finite temperature where nucleon-nucleon and (anti)kaon-nucleon interactions are mediated by the exchange of mesons. The melting of the antikaon condensate is studied for different values of antikaon optical potential depths. We find that the critical temperature of antikaon condensation increases with baryon number density. Further it is noted that the critical temperature is lowered as antikaon optical p…
We study the impact of additional couplings in the relativistic mean field (RMF) models, in conjunction with antikaon condensation, on various neutron star properties. We analyze different properties such as in-medium antikaon and nucleon effective masses, antikaon energies, chemical potentials and the mass-radius relations of neutron star (NS). We calculate the NS properties with the RMF (NL3), E-RMF (G1, G2) and FSU2.1 models, which are quite successful in explaining several finite nuclear properties. Our results show that the onset of kaon condensation in NS strongly depends on the paramete…
We investigate the properties of an antikaon in medium, regarding itas a MIT bag. We first construct the MIT bag model for a kaon with$σ^*$ and $ϕ$ in order to describe the interaction of$s$-quarks in hyperonic matter in the framework of the modifiedquark-meson coupling model. The coupling constant $g'^{B_K}_σ$in the density-dependent bag constant $B(σ)$ is treated as afree parameter to reproduce the optical potential of a kaon in asymmetric matter and all other couplings are determined by usingSU(6) symmetry and the quark counting rule. With various values ofthe kaon potential, we calculate t…
Properties of multi-antikaonic nuclei (MKN), where several numbers of $K^-$ mesons are bound, are studied in the relativistic mean-field model, combined with chiral dynamics for kaonic part of the thermodynamic potential. The density profiles for nucleons and $K^-$ mesons, the single particle energy of the $K^-$ mesons, and binding energy of the MKN are obtained. The effects of the $\bar K-\bar K$ interactions on these quantities are discussed in comparison with other meson ($σ$, $ω$, and $ρ$)-exchange models. It is shown that the $\bar K-\bar K$ interactions originate from two contributions: …
Antikaon production from heavy ion collisions at energies available from the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) at the Brookhaven National Laboratory is studied in a relativistic transport (ART) model. We include contributions from the baryon-baryon, meson-baryon, and meson-meson interactions. The final-state interaction of antikaons via both absorption and elastic scattering by nucleons and pions are also considered. To compare with presently available or future experimental data, we have calculated the antikaon rapidity and transverse momentum distributions as well as its collective flow…
We investigate the condensation of charged $K^-$ meson and neutral $\bar K^0$ meson in dense neutron star matter. Calculations are performed in relativistic mean field models in which both the baryon-baryon and (anti)kaon-baryon interactions are mediated by meson exchange. It is found that $\bar K^0$ condensation is quite sensitive to the antikaon optical potential and depends more strongly on the nucleonic equation of state. For moderate values of antikaon potential and a rather stiff equation of state, a significant region of maximum mass star will contain $\bar K^0$ meson. The critical dens…
We developed a microscopic model for antikaon absorption on two nucleons in nuclear matter. The absorption is described within a meson-exchange picture and the primary $K^-N$ interaction strength is derived from state-of-the-art chiral coupled channel meson-baryon interaction models. We took into account the medium modification of the $K^-N$ scattering amplitudes due to the Pauli correlations. We derived the $K^-NN$ as well as $K^-N$ optical potentials as functions of nuclear matter density including the real part of the $K^-NN$ potential. We calculated the $K^-$ single- and two-nucleon absorp…
We study the properties of the kappa meson in the nuclear medium, starting from a chiral unitary model of S-wave, I=1/2 K-pi scattering, which describes the elastic K-pi phase shifts and generates a pole in the amplitude. Medium effects are considered by including pion and kaon selfenergies. We explore the changes in the kappa pole position and in the K-pi scattering amplitude at finite density, with two different models for the kaon selfenergy.
We investigate the role of higher order couplings, along with the condensation of antikaons ($K^-$ and $\bar K^0$), on the properties of neutron star (NS). We employ extended versions of the relativistic mean-field model, in which kaon-nucleon and nucleon-nucleon interactions are taken on the same footing. We find that the onset of condensation of $K^-$ and $\bar K^0$ highly depends not only on the strength of optical potential but also on the new couplings. The presence of antikaons leads to a softer equation of state and makes the neutron star core symmetric and lepton-deficient. We show tha…
We present recent progress on the properties of antikaons in nuclei and dense nuclear matter as obtained from two {\bar K}N interaction models: one based on the lowest-order meson-baryon chiral lagrangian and the other derived from a meson-exchange picture.
Coupled-channel Kbar-N dynamics near threshold and its repercussions in few-body Kbar-nuclear systems are briefly reviewed, highlighting studies of a K^-pp quasibound state. In heavier nuclei, the extension of mean-field calculations to multi-Kbar nuclear and hypernuclear quasibound states is discussed. It is concluded that strangeness in finite self-bound systems is realized through hyperons, with no room for kaon condensation.
We study the melting of a $K^-$ condensate in hot and neutrino-trapped protoneutron stars. In this connection, we adopt relativistic field theoretical models to describe the hadronic and condensed phases. It is observed that the critical temperature of antikaon condensation is enhanced as baryon density increases. For a fixed baryon density, the critical temperature of antikaon condensation in a protoneutron star is smaller than that of a neutron star. We also exhibit the phase diagram of a protoneutron star with a $K^-$ condensate.
The antikaon optical potential in hot and dense nuclear matter is studied within the framework of a coupled-channel self-consistent calculation taking, as bare meson-baryon interaction, the meson-exchange potential of the Jülich group. Typical conditions found in heavy-ion collisions at GSI are explored. As in the case of zero temperature, the angular momentum components larger than L=0 contribute significantly to the finite temperature antikaon optical potential at finite momentum. It is found that the particular treatment of the medium effects has a strong influence on the behavior of the an…
We investigate the modification of antikaons in isospin symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. Using the leading s-wave couplings of the SU(3) chiral meson-baryon Lagrangian we solve the coupled channel kaon-nucleon scattering equation selfconsistently. The in-medium antikaon propagator is calculated for different densities and different proton/neutron ratios. The spectral function of the antikaon is found to be broadened strongly, and its mass is shifted downward significantly. However, comparing the effective in-medium mass of the antikaon to the relevant charge chemical potential of neutr…
Analyses of comprehensive sets of strong-interaction data consisting of level shifts, widths and yields in strange atoms of K mesons and Sigma hyperons are reviewed. The introduction of density dependent optical potentials, in both cases, improves significantly the fit to the data. A strongly attractive antikaon-nuclear potential of order 150-200 MeV in nuclear matter is suggested by fits to the kaonic-atom data, with interesting possible repercussions on kaon condensation and on the evolution of strangeness in high-density stars. The case for relatively narrow, deeply bound antikaon atomic st…
Within a multiphase transport model we study phi meson production in relativistic heavy ion collisions from both superposition of initial multiple proton-proton interactions and the secondary collisions in the produced hadronic matter. The yield of phi mesons is then reconstructed from their decaying product of either the kaon-antikaon pairs or the dimuon pairs. Since the kaon-antikaon pairs at midrapidity with low transverse momenta are predominantly rescattered or absorbed in the hadronic medium, they can not be used to reconstruct the phi meson and lead thus to a smaller reconstructed phi m…
Isospin effects on the optical potentials of kaons and antikaons in dense hadronic matter are investigated using a chiral SU(3) model. These effects are important for asymmetric heavy ion collision experiments. In the present work the dispersion relations are derived for kaons and antikaons, compatible with the low energy scattering data, within our model approach. The relations result from the kaonic interactions with the nucleons, vector mesons and scalar mesons in the asymmetric nuclear matter. The isospin asymmetry effects arising from the interactions with the vector-isovector $ρ$- meson …
Dilepton production from both pion-pion and kaon-antikaon annihilation in heavy-ion collisions is studied using the relativistic transport model. The formation of a rho meson from pion-pion annihilation and a phi meson from kaon-antikaon annihilation, their propagation in the medium, and their decay into dileptons are explicitly treated. Including the medium modifications of the masses and widths of vector mesons as predicted by the QCD sum-rule calculations, we study their effects on the dilepton invariant mass spectra from heavy-ion collisions at SIS/GSI energies.
The properties of the kaon, $K$, and antikaon, $\kbar$, in nuclear medium are studied in the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. Employing a constituent quark-antiquark (MIT bag model) picture, their excitation energies in a nuclear medium at zero momentum are calculated within mean field approximation. The scalar, and the vector mesons are assumed to couple directly to the nonstrange quarks and antiquarks in the $K$ and $\kbar$ mesons. It is demonstrated that the $ρ$ meson induces different mean field potentials for each member of the isodoublets, $K$ and $\kbar$, when they are embedded in asym…
We evaluate the antikaon and hyperon spectral functions in a self-consistent and covariant many-body approach. The computation is based on coupled-channel dynamics derived from the chiral SU(3) Lagrangian. A novel subtraction scheme is developed that avoids kinematical singularities and medium-induced power divergencies all together. Scalar and vector mean fields are used to model nuclear binding and saturation. The effect of the latter is striking for the antikaon spectral function that becomes significantly more narrow at small momenta. Attractive mass shifts of about 30 and 40 MeV are predi…
The role played by subthreshold meson-baryon dynamics is demonstrated in kaonic-atom, Kbar-nuclear and eta-nuclear bound-state calculations within in-medium models of Kbar-N and eta-N interactions. New analyses of kaonic atom data reveal appreciable multi-nucleon contributions. Calculations of eta-nuclear bound states show, in particular, that the eta-N scattering length is not a useful indicator of whether or not eta mesons bind in nuclei nor of the widths anticipated for such states.
We calculate the momentum-dependent potentials for $K^+$ and $K^-$ mesons in a dispersion approach at nuclear density $ρ_0$ using the information from the vacuum $K^+ N$ and $K^- N$ scattering amplitudes, however, leaving out the resonance contributions for the in-medium analysis. Whereas the $K^+$ potential is found to be repulsive ($\approx$ + 30 MeV) and to show only a moderate momentum dependence, the $K^-$ selfenergy at normal nuclear matter density turns out to be $\approx$ - 200 MeV at zero momentum in line with kaon atomic data, however, decreases rapidly in magnitude for higher moment…
$\bar{K}$-nucleon interactions are investigated in the framework of coupled-channels dynamics based on the next-to-leading order chiral SU(3) meson-baryon effective Lagrangian. A recent determination of the 1s shift and width of kaonic hydrogen enables us to set accurate constraints on the coupled-channels meson-baryon amplitudes in the strangeness $S=-1$ sector. Theoretical uncertainties in the subthreshold extrapolation of the coupled-channels amplitudes are discussed. Using this framework, we give predictions for $K^-$-neutron interactions and for the spectrum of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance. A …
We consider the role of rescattering of secondary kaons on the dilepton branching ratio of the phi meson. In-medium mass modifications and broadening of kaons and phi mesons are taken into account. We find in the framework of a Bjorken scenario for the time evolution of the expanding fireball that the phi yield from dimuons is moderately or at least only slightly enhanced compared to that from kaon-antikaon pairs. The relation to experimental yields measured by the NA49, NA50 and CERES Collaborations at CERN SPS and the PHENIX Collaboration at RHIC is discussed.
We study the inclusive strange axial-vector meson $K_1(1270)^+$ production in ${K^-}A$ reactions at near-threshold laboratory incident antikaon momenta within a nuclear spectral function approach, which describes incoherent direct $K_1(1270)^+$ meson production in $K^-$ meson--proton ${K^-}p \to {K_1(1270)^+}Ξ^-$ production processes and accounts for three different options for its in-medium mass shift (or for its effective scalar potential) at central density $ρ_0$. We calculate the absolute differential and total cross sections for the production of $K_1(1270)^+$ mesons on $^{12}$C and $^{18…
The properties of the antikaons in nuclear matter are investigated from a chiral unitary approach which incorporates the s- and p-waves of the ${\bar K}N$ interaction. To obtain the in-medium meson-baryon amplitudes we include, in a self-consistent way, Pauli blocking effects, meson self-energies corrected by nuclear short-range correlations and baryon binding potentials. We pay special attention to investigating the validity of the on-shell factorization, showing that it cannot be applied in the evaluation of the in-medium corrections to the p-wave amplitudes. In nuclear matter at saturation …
The in-medium masses of the kaons and antikaons in strongly magnetized asymmetric nuclear matter are studied using a chiral SU(3) model. The medium modifications of the masses of these open strange pseudoscalar mesons arise due to their interactions with the nucleons and scalar mesons within the model. The proton, the charged nucleon, has effects from the Landau energy levels in the presence of the magnetic field. The anomalous magnetic moments (AMM) of the nucleons are taken into consideration in the present study and these are seen to be large at high magnetic fields and high densities. The …
We develop a new equation of state (EoS) table involving thermal (anti)kaons, Bose-Einstein condensate of $K^{-}$ mesons and $Λ$-hyperons for core-collapse supernova and neutron star merger simulations. This EoS table is based on a finite temperature density-dependent relativistic hadron field theory where baryon-baryon interaction is mediated by scalar $σ$, vector $ω$ and $ρ$ mesons, using the parameter set DD2 for nucleons. The repulsive hyperon-hyperon interaction is mediated by an additional strange $ϕ$ meson. The EoS for the $K^-$ condensed matter is also calculated within the framework o…
The modification on kaon and antikaon properties of in the interior of (proto-)neutron stars is investigated using a chiral SU(3) model. The parameters of the model are fitted to nuclear matter saturation properties, baryon octet vacuum masses, hyperon optical potentials and low energy a kaon-nucleon scattering lengths. We study the kaon/antikaon medium modification and explore the possibility of antikaon condensation in (proto-)neutron star matter at zero as well as finite temperature/entropy and neutrino content. The effect of hyperons on kaon and antikaon optical potentials is also investig…
We study the near-threshold $J/ψ$ meson production on protons and nuclei by considering incoherent direct non-resonant $K^-p \to {J/ψ}Λ$ and two-step resonant ${K^-}p \to P_{cs}(4459)^0 \to {J/ψ}Λ$ charmonium production processes. We calculate the absolute excitation functions, energy and momentum distributions for the non-resonant, resonant and for the combined (non-resonant plus resonant) production of $J/ψ$ mesons off protons as well as off carbon and tungsten target nuclei at near-threshold incident antikaon energies by considering these elementary production channels as well as by assumin…
We compute a new equation of state table including Bose-Einstein condensate of $K^{-}$ mesons for core collapse supernova and neutron star merger simulations. Nuclei and interacting nucleons in non-uniform matter is described in an extended version of the nuclear statistical equilibrium model including excluded volume effects whereas the uniform matter at higher densities is treated in the relativistic hadron field theory with density dependent couplings. The equation of state table is generated for a wide range of density ($10^{-12}$ to $\sim 1$ fm$^{-3}$), positive charge fraction (0.01 to 0…
In this talk we review the consequences of the chiral SU(3) symmetry for strangeness propagation in nuclear matter. Objects of crucial importance are the meson-baryon scattering amplitudes obtained within the chiral coupled-channel effective field theory. Results for antikaon and hyperon-resonance spectral functions in cold nuclear matter are presented and discussed. The importance of the Sigma(1385) resonance for the subthreshold antikaon production in heavy-ion reaction at SIS is pointed out. The in-medium properties of the latter together with an antikaon spectral function based on chiral S…
Anisotropic flow of kaons and antikaons is studied in heavy-ion collisions at CERN SPS and BNL RHIC energies within the microscopic quark-gluon string model. In the midrapidity range the directed flow of kaons v_1 differs considerably from that of antikaons at SPS energy (E_{lab} = 160 AGeV), while at RHIC energy (\sqrt{s} = 130 AGeV) the excitation functions of both, kaon and antikaon, flows coincide within the statistical error bars. The change is attributed to formation of dense meson-dominated matter at RHIC, where the differences in interaction cross-sections of kaons and antikaons become…
The properties of kaons and antikaons and their modification in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter are investigated using a chiral SU(3) model. These isospin dependent medium effects are important for asymmetric heavy ion collision experiments. In the present work, the medium modifications of the energies of the kaons and antikaons, within the asymmetric nuclear matter, arise due to the interactions of kaons and antikaons with the nucleons and scalar mesons. The values of the parameters in the model are obtained by fitting the saturation properties of nuclear matter and kaon-nucleon scattering …
Antikaons in dense nuclear matter are studied using a chiral unitary approach which incorporates the $s$- and p-waves of the $\bar K N$ interaction. We include, in a self-consistent way, Pauli blocking effects, meson self-energies modified by nuclear short-range correlations and baryon binding potentials. We show that the on-shell factorization cannot be applied to evaluate the in-medium corrections to p-wave amplitudes. We also obtain an attractive shift for the $Λ$ and $Σ$ masses of -30 MeV at saturation density while the $Σ^*$ width gets sensibly increased to about 80 MeV. The moderate attr…
The medium modifications of the energies of kaons and antikaons in isospin asymmetric hyperonic matter are investigated using a chiral SU(3) model. The isospin dependent medium effects, are important for asymmetric heavy ion collision experiments, as well as relevant for the neutron star phenomenology as the bulk matter in the interior of the neutron star is highly isospin asymmetric. The effects of hyperons on the medium modifications of the kaons and antikaons in the strange hadronic matter are investigated in the present work and are seen to be appreciable for hadronic matter with large str…
We review the important role played by the chiral SU(3) symmetry in predicting the properties of antikaons and hyperon resonances in cold nuclear matter. Objects of crucial importance are the meson-baryon scattering amplitudes obtained within the chiral coupled-channel effective field theory. The formation of baryon resonances as implied by chiral coupled-channel dynamics is discussed. Results for antikaon and hyperon-resonance spectral functions are presented for isospin symmetric and asymmetric matter.
The results for meson condensation in the literature vary markedly depending on whether one uses chiral perturbation theory or the current-algebra-plus-PCAC approach. To elucidate the origin of this discrepancy, we re-examine the role of the sigma-term in meson condensation. We find that the resolution of the existing discrepancy requires a knowledge of terms in the Lagrangian that are higher order in density than hitherto considered.
Bose-Einstein condensation of antikaons in cold and dense beta-equilibrated matter under the influence of strong magnetic fields is studied within a relativistic mean field model. For magnetic fields $> 5 \times 10^{18}$G, the phase spaces of charged particles are modified resulting in compositional changes in the system. The threshold density of $K^-$ condensation is shifted to higher density compared with the field free case. In the presence of strong fields, the equation of state becomes stiffer than that of the zero field case.
In the present work the conjunction of chiral SU(3) model with QCD sum rules is employed to explore the possibility of $ρ$ meson condensation in neutron stars. The quark and gluon condensates in terms of which the in-medium masses of $ρ$ mesons can be expressed are calculated using the chiral SU(3) model in the charge neutral matter which is relevant for neutron stars. It is observed that condition of $ρ$ meson condensation is satisfied for the density of about 7$ρ_{0}$, where $ρ_{0}$ is the nuclear saturation density. In the end, a brief qualitative discussion of the magnetic field is also in…
For almost 50 years the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance has been a mystery. Even though it contains a heavy strange quark and has odd parity, its mass is lower than any other excited spin-1/2 baryon. Dalitz and co-workers speculated that it might be a molecular state of an antikaon bound to a nucleon. However, a standard quark-model structure is also admissible. Although the intervening years have seen considerable effort, there has been no convincing resolution. Here we present a new lattice QCD simulation showing that the strange magnetic form factor of the Lambda(1405) vanishes, sig…
An outstanding problem in the study of possible kaon condensation is the striking discrepancy between the results of chiral perturbation theory and those of the PCAC-plus-current-algebra approach. I discuss here what causes this discrepancy and what needs to be done to solve the problem. In addition, I point out the importance of examining the validity of the non-relativistic approximation universally employed in the existing treatments of kaon condensation.
We investigate the rotation effects on the mesonic condensation in isospin matter . Using the two-flavor NJL effective model with a global rotation, we demonstrate two important effects of the rotation on its phase structure: a rotational suppression of the scalar-channel condensates, in particular the pion condensation region; and a rotational enhancement of the rho condensation region with vector-channel condensate. A new phase diagram for isospin matter under rotation is mapped out on the $ω-μ_I$ plane where three distinctive phases, corresponding to $σ$, $π$, $ρ$ dominated regions respecti…
The state of the art in the study of pionic, kaonic and Sigmionic atoms, along with the in-medium nuclear interactions deduced for these hadrons, is reviewed. A special emphasis is placed on recent developments in antikaon-nuclear physics, where a strongly attractive density dependent antikaon-nuclear potential of order 150-200 MeV in nuclear matter emerges by fitting K^- atom data. This has interesting repercussions on antikaon quasibound nuclear states, on the composition of strange hadronic matter and on kaon condensation in self bound hadronic systems.
Chiral perturbation theory and its unitarized versions have played an important role in our understanding of the low-energy strong interaction. Yet, so far, such studies typically deal exclusively with perturbative or nonperturbative channels. In this letter, we report on the first global study of meson-baryon scattering up to one-loop order. It is shown that covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory, including its unitarization for the negative strangeness sector, can describe meson-baryon scattering data remarkably well. This provides a highly non-trivial check on the validity of this impo…
We use the modified quark-meson coupling (MQMC) model to study the composition profile of neutron star matter and compare the results with those calculated by quantum hadrodynamics (QHD). Both MQMC and QHD model parameters are adjusted to produce exactly the same saturation properties so that we can investigate the model dependences of the matter composition at high densities. We consider the possibility of deep kaon optical potential and find that the composition of matter is very sensitive to the interaction strength of kaons with matter. The onset densities of the kaon condensation are stud…
The behavior of pseudoscalar mesons in nuclear medium is reviewed with an emphasis on the possibility of their Bose-Einstein condensation in dense matter. In particular pion condensation is reexamined in detail, stimulated by recent theoretical and observational developments.
The in-medium mass and decay width of the $ϕ$ meson in the hot asymmetric strange hadronic matter are calculated using an effective Lagrangian approach for $ϕ$ $K\bar K$ interaction. The in-medium contributions of $K \bar K$ loop to the $ϕ$ meson self-energy are computed by the medium modified kaon and antikaon mass which is evaluated using the chiral SU(3) model. To deal with the ultraviolet divergence, we regularize the loop integral of self-energy with a dipole form factor, and present the results for cut-off mass, $Λ_c$=3 GeV. In chiral model calculations, for strange matter, we find that …
A sharply peaked structure is found in the angular distribution of emitted $π^+$ mesons from the photon-proton collisions. It offers a possible way for generating a $π^+$-condensation in free space. To make the stimulated emission of $π^+$-mesons efficient, a ring resonator is designed.
The possibility of meson condensation in stars and in heavy-ion collisions has been discussed in the past. Here, we study whether rho meson condensation ($ρ^{-}$) can occur in very dense matter and determine the effect of strong magnetic fields on this condensation. We find that rho meson condensates can appear in the core of the neutron star assuming a rho mass which is reduced due to in-medium effects. We find that the magnetic field has a non-negligible effect in triggering condensation.
A new chiral SU(3) Lagrangian is proposed to describe the properties of kaons and antikaons in the nuclear medium, the ground state of dense matter and the kaon-nuclear interactions consistently. The saturation properties of nuclear matter are reproduced as well as the results of the Dirac-Brückner theory. Our numerical results show that the kaon effective mass might be changed only moderately in the nuclear medium due to the highly non-linear density effects. After taking into account the coupling between the omega meson and the kaon, we obtain similar results for the effective kaon and antik…
Recent studies on meson condensations (pions and kaons) in high-density hadronic matter are reviewed. After summarizing onset mechanisms of pion and kaon condensations, we discuss implications for neutron star phenomena such as rapid cooling through neutrino emission, static and dynamic properties of neutron stars. Recent studies on coexistence problem of pion and kaon condensations are briefly introduced. Finally, relevance of meson condensations in hadronic matter to those in color superconductivity are briefly mentioned.
The recent measurement of the mass of neutron stars (PSR J1614 - 2230, PSR J0348 + 0432, MSP J0740 + 6620) restricts the lower limit $\sim 2M_{\odot}$ of the maximum mass of such compact stars, making it possible for dense matter to exist in massive stars. The relativistic mean field theory with parameter sets FSUGold including Kaon condensation is used to describe the properties of neutron stars in $β$ equilibrium. Through careful choice of the parameter of the $σ$-cut $c_σ$, we are able to produce a maximum mass neutron star with Kaon condensation heavier than $2M_{\odot}$, and we find that …
