Here we use highly sensitive magnetisation measurements performed using a Hall probe sensor on single crystals of highly anisotropic high temperature superconductors $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{8}$ to study the dynamic interactions between the two species of vortices that exist in such superconductors. We observe a remarkable and clearly delineated high temperature regime that mirrors the underlying vortex phase diagram. Our results map out the parameter space over which these dynamic interaction processes can be used to create vortex ratchets, pumps and other fluxonic devices.
Sharp increase of pinning force was observed at the 3D-2D phase transition in strongly anisotropic high temperature superconductors of the BiPbSrCaCuO system.
We present a geometry-based discussion of possible vortex configurations in the mixed state of anisotropic type-II superconductors. It is shown that, if energy considerations assign six nearest neighbors to each vortex, two distinct modifications of the vortex lattice are possible. It is expected that certain conditions lead to a first order phase transition from one modification of the vortex lattice to the other upon varying the external magnetic field.
We have performed magnetic susceptibility measurements in Mo$_{(1-x)}$Ge$_x$ amorphous thin films biased with an electrical current using anisotropic coils. We tested the symmetry of the vortex response changing the relative orientation between the bias current and the susceptibility coils. We found a region in the DC current - temperature phase diagram where the dynamical vortex structures behave anisotropically. In this region the shielding capability of the superconducting currents measured by the susceptibility coils is less effective along the direction of vortex motion compared to the tr…
In a type II superconductor in a moderate magnetic field, the superconductor to normal state transition may be described as a phase transition in which the vortex lattice melts into a liquid. In a biaxial superconductor, or even a uniaxial superconductor with magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the symmetry axis, the vortices acquire elongated cross sections and interactions. Systems of anisotropic, interacting constituents generally exhibit liquid crystalline phases. We examine the possibility of a two step melting in homogeneous type II superconductors with anisotropic superfluid stiffn…
The zero temperature vortex phase diagram for uniaxial anisotropic superconductors placed in an external magnetic field tilted with respect to the axis of anisotropy is studied for parameters typical of BSCCO and YBCO. The exact Gibbs free energy in the London approximation, using a self-energy expression with an anisotropic core cutoff, is minimized numerically, assuming only that the equilibrium vortex state is a vortex-line-lattice with a single vortex line per primitive unit cell. The numerical method is based on simulated annealing and uses a fast convergent series to calculate the energy…
The vortex state at the lower critical field, H_{c1}, in clean anisotropic superconductors placed in an external field tilted with respect to the axis of anisotropy (c-axis) is considered assuming two possible arrangements: dilute vortex-lines or dilute vortex-line chains. By minimizing the Gibbs free energies in the London limit for each possibility we obtain the corresponding lower critical fields as a function of the tilt angle. The equilibrium configuration at H_{c1} for a given tilt angle is identified with that for which H_{c1} is the smallest. We report results for parameter values typi…
We present direct imaging of magnetic flux structures in the anisotropic, spin-triplet superconductor Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$ using a scanning $μ$SQUID microscope. Individual quantized vortices were seen at low magnetic fields. Coalescing vortices forming flux domains were revealed at intermediate fields. Based on our observations we suggest that a mechanism intrinsic to the material stabilizes the flux domains against the repulsive vortex-vortex interaction. Topological defects like domain walls can provide this, implying proof for unconventional chiral superconductivity.
As shown in recent experiments [Auslaender et al., Nature Physics 5, 35 (2009)] magnetic force microscopy permits one not only to image but also to manipulate an individual vortex in type-II superconductors, and this manipulation provides a new powerful tool to study vortex dynamics and pinning. We derive equations that describe the deformation of an individual vortex in an anisotropic biaxial type-II superconductor under the action of the microscope's magnetic tip. These equations take into account the driving force generated by the tip, the elastic force caused by the vortex deformation, and…
We report the direct imaging of a novel modulated flux striped domain phase in a nearly twin-free YBCO crystal. These domains arise from instabilities in the vortex structure within a narrow region of tilted magnetic fields at small angles from the in-plane direction. By comparing the experimental and theoretically derived vortex phase diagrams we infer that the stripe domains emerge from a first order phase transition of the vortex structure. The size of domains containing vortices of certain orientations is controlled by the balance between the vortex stray field energy and the positive ener…
Strong vortex pinning in FeSe could be useful for technological applications and could provide clues about the coexistence of superconductivity and nematicity. To characterize the pinning of individual, isolated vortices, we simultaneously apply a local magnetic field and image the vortex motion with scanning SQUID susceptibility. We find that the pinning is highly anisotropic: the vortices move easily along directions that are parallel to the orientations of twin domain walls and pin strongly in a perpendicular direction. These results are consistent with a scenario in which the anisotropy ar…
On the basis of the augmented quasiclassical theory of superconductivity with the Lorentz force, we study the mag- netic field dependence of the charge distribution due to the Lorentz force in a d-wave vortex lattice with anisotropic Fermi surfaces. Owing to the competition between the energy-gap and Fermi surface anisotropies, the charge profile in the vortex lattice changes dramatically with increasing magnetic field because of the overlaps of each nearest vortex-core charge. In addition, the accumulated charge in the core region may reverse its sign as a function of magnetic field. This str…
We present a new approach to calculate the attractive long-range vortex-vortex interaction of the van der Waals type present in anisotropic and layered superconductors. The mapping of the statistical mechanics of two-dimensional charged bosons allows us to define a Casimir problem: Two half spaces of vortex matter separated by a gap of width R are mapped to two dielectric half planes of charged bosons interacting via a massive gauge field. We determine the attractive Casimir force between the two half planes and show that it agrees with the pairwise summation of the van der Waals force between…
We present a new approach to calculate the attractive long range vortex-vortex interaction of the van der Waals type present in anisotropic and layered superconductors. The mapping of the statistical mechanics of vortex lines onto the imaginary time quantum mechanics of two dimensional charged bosons allows us to define a 2D Casimir problem: Two half-spaces of (dilute) vortex matter separated by a gap of width R are mapped to two dielectric half-planes of charged bosons interacting via a massive gauge field. We determine the attractive Casimir force between the two half-planes and show, that i…
We use three-dimensional molecular dynamics simulations of magnetically interacting pancake vortices to study vortex matter in disordered, highly anisotropic materials such as BSCCO. We observe a sharp 2D-3D transition from vortex lines to decoupled pancakes as a function of relative interlayer coupling strength, with an accompanying large increase in the critical current remniscent of a second peak effect. We find that decoupled pancakes, when driven, simultaneously recouple and order into a crystalline-like state at high drives. We construct a dynamic phase diagram and show that the dynamic …
We have determined HC2(T) for FeSe1-xTex (x=0.52) single crystals using resistivity measurements at high static and pulsed magnetic field, as well as specific heat measurements up to 9T. We find that the significant anisotropy of the initial slope of HC2(T) determined from resistivity measurements, is not present when HC2 is determined from the specific heat results. This suggests that the thermodynamic upper critical field is almost isotropic, and that anisotropic vortex dynamics play a role. Further evidence of anisotropic vortex dynamics is found in the behaviour in pulsed field. We also fi…
We use three-dimensional molecular dynamics simulations of magnetically interacting pancake vortices to study the dynamic phases of vortex lattices in highly anisotropic materials such as BSCCO. Our model treats the magnetic interactions of the pancakes exactly, with long-range logarithmic interactions both within and between planes. The pancake vortices decouple at low drives and show two-dimensional plastic flow. The vortex lattice both recouples and reorders as the driving current is increased, eventually forming a recoupled crystalline-like state at high drives. We construct a phase diagra…
In the recent work by Song et al. [Science 332, 1410 (2011)], the scanning tunneling spectroscopy experiment in the stoichiometric FeSe reveals evidence for nodal superconductivity and strong anisotropy. The nodal structure can be explained with the extended s-wave pairing structure with the mixture of the $s_{x^2+y^2}$ and $s_{x^2y^2}$ pairing symmetries. We calculate the anisotropic vortex structure by using the self-consistent Bogoliubov-de Gennes mean-field theory. In considering the absence of magnetic ordering in the FeSe at the ambient pressure, orbital ordering is introduced, which bre…
We present the experimental observation of magnetic field line curvature at the surface of a superconducting film by local quantitative magneto-optics. In addition to the knowledge of the full induction field at the superconductor surface yielding the quantitative observation of the flux line curvature, our analysis method allows also local value measurements of the electrical current density inside the sample. Thus, we study the interplay between the electrodynamic constraints dictated by the film geometry and the pinning properties of the superconductor. In particular, we investigate the ani…
By using a high quality Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 (Tl-2223) single crystal as an example, the magnetization vector was probed in the reversible region of highly anisotropic cuprate superconductors. For that, we have measured its components along and transverse to the applied magnetic field for different crystal orientations. The analysis shows that the angular dependence of the perpendicular component of the magnetization vector follows the one predicted by a London-like approach which includes a contribution associated with the thermal fluctuations of the 2D vortex positions. For the Tl-2223 crystal st…
The distinctive features of equilibrium vortex structures in thin films of anisotropic superconductors in tilted magnetic fields are studied for the limits of moderate and strong anisotropy. The energetically favorable shape of isolated vortex lines is found in the framework of two particular models describing these limiting cases: London theory with an anisotropic mass tensor and London-type model for a stack of Josephson--decoupled superconducting layers. The increase of the field tilting is shown to result in qualitative changes in the vortex--vortex interaction potential: the balance betwe…
Scanning $μ$SQUID force microscopy is used to study magnetic flux structures in single crystals of the layered spin triplet superconductor Sr$\_{2}$RuO$\_{4}$. Images of the magnetic flux configuration above the $\vec{a}\vec{b}$-face of the cleaved crystal are acquired, mostly after field-cooling the sample. For low applied magnetic fields, individual vortices are observed, each carrying a single quantum of flux. Above 1 gauss, coalescence of vortices is discovered. The coalescing vortices may indicate the presence of domains of a chiral order parameter. When the applied field is tilted from t…
This is a Comment on "Vortex Liquid Crystal in Anisotropic Type II Superconductors" by E. W. Carlson et al. in PRL, vol.90, 087001 (2003) [cond-mat/0209175].
Measurements of the high-frequency complex resistivity in superconductors are a tool often used to obtain the vortex parameters, such as the vortex viscosity, the pinning constant and the depinning frequency. In anisotropic superconductors, the extraction of these quantities from the measurements faces new difficulties due to the tensor nature of the electromagnetic problem. The problem is specifically intricate when the magnetic field is tilted with respect to the crystallographic axes. Partial solutions exist in the free-flux-flow (no pinning) and Campbell (pinning dominated) regimes. In thi…

We present an extensive study of vortex dynamics in a high-quality single crystal of HgBa$_2$CuO$_{4+δ}$ (Hg1201), a highly anisotropic superconductor that is a model system for studying the effects of anisotropy. From magnetization $M$ measurements over a wide range of temperatures $T$ and fields $H$, we construct a detailed vortex phase diagram. We find that the temperature-dependent vortex penetration field $H_p(T)$, second magnetization peak $H_{smp}(T)$, and irreversibility field $H_{irr}(T)$ all decay exponentially at low temperatures and exhibit an abrupt change in behavior at high temp…
The elastic moduli of vortex crystals in anisotropic superconductors are frequently involved in the investigation of their phase diagram and transport properties. We provide a detailed analysis of the harmonic eigenvalues (normal modes) of the vortex lattice for general values of the magnetic field strength, going beyond the elastic continuum regime. The detailed behavior of these wavevector-dependent eigenvalues within the Brillouin zone (BZ), is compared with several frequently used approximations that we also recalculate. Throughout the BZ, transverse modes are less costly than their longit…
We theoretically study the dependence of the quasiparticle (QP) scattering rate $\varGamma$ on the uniaxial anisotropy of a Fermi surface with changing the magnetic field angle $α_{\rm M}$. We consider the QP scattering due to the non-magnetic impurities inside a single vortex core. The field-angle dependence of the quasiparticle scattering rate $\varGamma(α_{\rm M})$ is sensitive to the sign-change of the pair potential. We show that with increasing the two dimensionality of the system, $\varGamma(α_{\rm M})$ reflects more clearly whether there is the sign-change in the pair potential.
We carry out simulations of the anisotropic uniformly frustrated 3D XY model, as a model for vortex line fluctuations in high Tc superconductors. We compute the phase diagram as a function of temperature and anisotropy, for a fixed applied magnetic field. We find that superconducting coherence parallel to the field persists into the vortex line liquid state, and that this transition lies well below the "mean-field" cross-over from the vortex line liquid to the normal state.
Most of 2D superconductors are of type II, i.e., they are penetrated by quantized vortices when exposed to out-of-plane magnetic fields. In presence of a supercurrent, a Lorentz-like force acts on the vortices, leading to drift and dissipation. The current-induced vortex motion is impeded by pinning at defects, enabling the use of superconductors to generate high magnetic fields without dissipation. Usually, the pinning strength decreases upon any type of pair-breaking. Here we show that in Rashba superconductors the application of an in-plane field leads, instead, to an unexpected enhancement…
It is used the mechanical method of Abrikosov vortex stimulated dynamics investigation in superconductors. With its help it was studied relaxation phenomena in vortex matter of high-temperature superconductors. It established that pulsed magnetic fields change the course of relaxation processes taking place in vortex matter. The study of the influence of magnetic pulses differing by their durations and amplitudes on vortex system of strongly anisotropic high-temperature superconductors system Bi1.7Pb0.3Sr2Ca2Cu3O10-d showed the presence of threshold phenomena. The small duration pulses do not …
Core structures of a single vortex in A-like and B-like phases of superfluid 3He in uniaxially compressed and stretched aerogels are studied by numerically solving Ginzburg-Landau equations derived microscopically. It is found that, although any uniaxial deformation leads to a wider A-like phase with the axial pairing in the pressure-temperature phase diagram, the vortex core states in the two phases in aerogel depend highly on the type of deformation. In a compressed aerogel, the first-order vortex core transition (VCT) previously seen in the bulk B phase appears at any pressure in the B-like…
Quantized bound states at a vortex core are discretized in YNi$_2$B$_2$C. By using scanning tunneling spectroscopy with an unprecedented 0.1 nm spatial resolution, we find and identify the localized spectral structure, where in addition to the first main peak with a positive low energy, a second subpeak coming from the fourfold symmetric gap structure is seen inside the energy gap. Those spectral features are understood by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation for a fully three-dimensional gap structure. A particle-hole asymmetric spectrum at the core site and quantum oscillation in the sp…
We show that the density of states and the thermodynamic properties of a 2D d-wave superconductor in the vortex state with applied magnetic field $\bf H$ in the plane depend on the angle between $\bf H$ and the order parameter nodes. Within a semiclassical treatment of the extended quasiparticle states, we obtain fourfold oscillations of the specific heat, measurement of which provides a simple probe of gap symmetry. The frequency dependence of the density of states and the temperature dependence of thermodynamic properties obey different power laws for field in the nodal and anti-nodal direct…
The contribution of vortex core has been taken into account properly in constructing a torque theory for multiband superconductors. We employ the prescription of describing internal magnetic field in the vortex lattice by Hao {\it et al.} and by Yaouanc {\it et al.} to derive a torque formula as a natural extension of a preceding London theory. In marked contrast with the preceding model, our novel formula does not contain a phenomenological parameter $η$, which prevents us from obtaining a {\it true} upper critical field $H_{\rm c2}$ by analyzing an experimental torque curve. The parameter $η…
The model for high frequency electrodynamics in anisotropic type-II superconductors in the vortex state is studied considering arbitrary orientations between the applied field, the applied current and the anisotropy axis. An anisotropic treatment is provided for the vortex dynamics, taking into account all the phenomena relevant at high frequency, which include flux flow, pinning and creep. The coupling between vortex motion and high frequency currents is included, providing an entirely tensor model of the electromagnetic response to high frequency fields. Examples of data analysis of angular …
The density of states of a 2D d-wave superconductor in the vortex state with applied magnetic field $\bf H$ in the plane is shown to exhibit fourfold oscillations as a function of the angle of the field with respect to the crystal axes. We find further that the frequency dependence of the density of states and the temperature dependence of transport coefficients obey different power laws, thus leading to different magnetic scaling functions, for field in the nodal and anti-nodal direction. We discuss the consequences of this anisotropy for measurements of the specific heat.
We report low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy studies of Ni-Bi films grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Highly anisotropic and twofold symmetric superconducting gaps are revealed in two distinct composites, Bi-rich NiBi3 and near-equimolar NixBi, both sharing quasi-one-dimensional crystal structure. We further reveal axially elongated vortices in both phases, but Caroli-de Gennes-Matricon states solely within the vortex cores of NiBi3. Intriguingly, although the localized bound state splits energetically off at a finite distance ~10 nm away from a vortex center along t…
Magnetic flux structures in single crystals of the layered spin triplet superconductor Sr$\_{2}$RuO$\_{4}$ are studied by scanning micro SQUID Force microscopy. Vortex chains appear as the applied field is tilted along the in-plane direction of the superconductor. The vortex chains align along the direction of the in-plane component of the applied magnetic field. The decoration of in-plane vortices by crossing Abrikosov vortices is observed: two vortex orientations are apparent simultaneously, one along the layers and the other perpendicular to the layers. The crossing vortices appear preferen…
High-T_c superconductors in small magnetic fields directed away from the crystal symmetry axes have been found to exhibit inhomogeneous chains of flux lines (vortices), in contrast to the usual regular triangular flux-line lattice. We review the experimental observations of these chains, and summarize the theoretical background that explains their appearance. We treat separately two classes of chains: those that appear in superconductors with moderate anisotropy due to an attractive part of the interaction between tilted flux lines, and those with high anisotropy where the tilted magnetic flux…
We study the solid-liquid transition of a model of pancake vortices in laminar superconductors using a density functional theory of freezing. The physical properties of the system along the melting line are discussed in detail. We show that there is a very good agreement with experimental data in the shape and position of the first order transition in the phase diagram and in the magnitude and temperature dependence of the magnetic induction jump at the transition. We analyze the validity of the Lindemann melting criterion and the Hansen-Verlet freezing criterion. Both criteria are shown to be…
Quantized vortex core structure is theoretically investigated in Fermion superfluids with population imbalance for two atom species of neutral atom clouds near a Feshbach resonance. In contrast with vortex core in balance case where the quantum depletion makes a vortex visible through the density profile measurement, the vortex core is filled in and becomes less visible because the quantized discrete bound states are occupied exclusively by the majority species. Yet it is shown that the core can be visible through the minority density profile experiment using phase contrast imaging, revealing …
The vortex dynamics of uniaxial anisotropic superconductors with arbitrary angles between the magnetic field, the applied current and the anisotropy axis is theoretically studied, by focusing on the models for electrical transport experiments in the linear regime. The vortex parameters, such as the viscous drag, the vortex mobility and the pinning constant (in the weak point pinning regime), together with the vortex motion resistivity, are derived in tensor form by considering the very different free flux flow and pinned Campbell regimes. The results are extended to high frequency regimes wher…
We study the melting transition of the low-temperature vortex solid in strongly anisotropic layered superconductors with a concentration of random columnar pinning centers small enough so that the areal density of the pins is much less than that of the vortex lines. Both the external magnetic field and the columnar pins are assumed to be oriented perpendicular to the layers Our method, involving numerical minimization of a model free energy functional, yields not only the free energy values at the local minima of the functional but also the detailed density distribution of the system at each m…
We studied nearly optimally Ni-substituted BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$ (BFNA) single crystals with $T_C \approx 18.5$\,K. In irreversible magnetization measurements, we determined the field dependence of the critical-current density and discuss the nature of observed strong bulk pinning. Using intrinsic multiple Andreev reflections effect (IMARE) spectroscopy, we directly determine two distinct superconducting gaps and resolve their moderate anisotropy in the momentum space. The BCS-ratio for the large gap $2Δ_L/k_BT_C > 4.1$ evidences for a strong coupling in the $Δ_L$-bands.
The vortex dynamics of uniaxial anisotropic superconductors in magnetic fields applied with arbitrary orientation is theoretically studied. Focus is on the model for electrical transport experiments in the linear regime. Relevant vortex parameters, like the viscous drag, the vortex mobility and pinning constant (with point pins), together with the flux flow and Campbell resistivities, are derived in tensor form, in the very different free flux flow and pinned Campbell regimes. The applicability to the various tensor quantities of the well-known scaling laws for the angular dependence on the fi…
We introduce a model of vortices in type-II superconductors with a four-fold anisotropy in the vortex-vortex interaction potential. Using numerical simulations we show that the vortex lattice undergoes structural transitions as the anisotropy is increased, with a triangular lattice at low anisotropy, a rhombic intermediate state, and a square lattice for high anisotropy. In some cases we observe a multi-$q$ state consisting of an Archimedean tiling that combines square and triangular local ordering. At very high anisotropy, domains of vortex chain states appear. We discuss how this model can b…
High critical temperature superconductivity often occurs in systems where an antiferromagnetic order is brought near $T=0K$ by slightly modifying pressure or doping. CaKFe$_4$As$_4$ is a superconducting, stoichiometric iron pnictide compound showing optimal superconducting critical temperature with $T_c$ as large as $38$ K. Doping with Ni induces a decrease in $T_c$ and the onset of spin-vortex antiferromagnetic order, which consists of spins pointing inwards to or outwards from alternating As sites on the diagonals of the in-plane square Fe lattice. Here we study the band structure of CaK(Fe$…
The magnetic field of moving vortices in anisotropic superconductors is considered in the framework of time-dependent London approach. It is found that at distances large relative to the core size, the field may change sign that alludes to a non-trivial intervortex interaction which depends on the crystal anisotropy and on the speed and direction of motion. These effects are caused to the electric fields and corresponding normal currents which appear due to the moving vortex magnetic structure. We find that the motion related part of the magnetic field attenuates at large distances as $1/r^3$ …
We report the magnetic field -- temperature ($H-T$) phase diagram of Ca$_{10}$(Pt$_4$As$_8$)[(Fe$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$)$_2$As$_2$]$_5$ ($x\approx 0.05$) single crystals, which consists of normal, vortex liquid, plastic creep and elastic creep phases. The upper critical field anisotropy is determined by a radio frequency technique via the measurements of magnetic penetration depth, $λ$. Both, irreversibility line, $H_{irr}(T)$, and flux creep line, $H^{SPM}(T)$, are obtained by measuring the magnetization. We find that $H_{irr}(T)$ is well described by the Lindemann criterion with parameters similar to…
In type-II superconductors exposed to magnetic fields between upper and lower critical values, $H_{c1}$ and $H_{c2}$, penetrating magnetic flux forms a lattice of vortices whose motion can induce dissipation. Consequently, the magnetization $M$ of superconductors is typically progressively weakened with increasing magnetic field $B \propto n_v$ (for vortex density $n_v$). However, some materials exhibit a non-monotonic $M(B)$, presenting a maximum in $M$ at what is known as the second magnetization peak. This phenomenon appears in most classes of superconductors, including low $T_c$ materials,…
We develop a magneto-elastic (ME) coupling model for the interaction between the vortex lattice and crystal elasticity. The theory extends the Kogan-Clem's anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau (GL) model to include the elasticity effect. The anisotropies in superconductivity and elasticity are simultaneously considered in the GL theory frame. We compare the field and angular dependences of the magnetization to the relevant experiments. The contribution of the ME interaction to the magnetization is comparable to the vortex-lattice energy, in materials with relatively strong pressure dependence of the cr…
Spectroscopy of vortex bound states can provide valuable information on the structure of the superconducting order parameter. Quasiparticle wavefunctions are expected to leak out in the directions of gap minima or nodes, if they exist, and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) on these low-energy states should probe the momentum dependence of the gap. Anisotropy can also arise from band structure effects, however. We perform a quasiclassical calculation of the density of states of a single vortex in an anisotropic superconductor, and show that if the gap itself is not highly anisotropic, the F…
Recently we have found that a three-dimensional superconducting state with anisotropic vortices localized at the vortex-lattice points is a stable state in zero external magnetic field for the layered high temperature uperconductivity materials. There exists a phase transition at the temperature $T_{c}^{v}$ from the normal phase to the vortex superconducting state which is of the first order. The first order phase transition shows overheating and overcooling effects. Nucleation of the superconducting phase in the normal phase thus may occur at temperatures higher than the transition temperatur…
We study the superfluid pairing in a two-species gas of heteronuclear fermionic molecules with equal density. The interplay of the isotropic s-wave interaction and anisotropic long-range dipolar interaction reveals rich physics. We find that the single-particle momentum distribution has a characteristic ellipsoidal shape that can be reasonably represented by a deformation parameter $α$ defined similarly to the normal phase. Interesting momentum-dependent features of the order parameter are identified. We calculate the critical temperatures of both the singlet and triplet superfluid, suggesting…
We study the transport properties of vortex matter in a superconducting thin film separated by a thin insulator layer from a ferromagnetic layer. We assume an alternating stripe structure for both FM and SC layers as found in [7]. We calculate the periodic pinning force in the stripe structure resulting from a highly inhomogeneous distribution of the vortices and antivortices. We show that the transport properties in FM-SC bilayer are highly anisotropic. In the absence of random pinning it displays a finite resistance for the current perpendicular to stripes and is superconducting for the curr…
We have studied the pinning force density Fp of YNi_2B_2C superconductors for various field orientations. We observe anisotropies both between the c-axis and the basal plane and within the plane, that cannot be explained by usual mass anisotropy. For magnetic field $H \parallel c$, the reorientation structural transition in the vortex lattice due to nonlocality, which occurs at a field $H_1 \sim 1kOe$, manifests itself as a kink in Fp(H). When $H \bot c$, Fp is much larger and has a quite different H dependence, indicating that other pinning mechanisms are present. In this case the signature o…
