We discuss the relevance of the classical and quantum rolling tachyons inflation in the frame of the standard, p-adic and adelic minisuperspace quantum cosmology. The field theory of tachyon matter proposed by Sen in a zero-dimensional version suggested by Kar leads to a model of a particle moving in a constant external field with quadratic damping. We calculate the exact quantum propagator of the model, as well as, the vacuum states and conditions necessary to construct an adelic generalization.
Recently, the tachyon cosmology has been represented as dark energy model to support the current acceleration of the universe without phantom crossing. In this paper, we study the dynamics of the tachyon cosmology in which the field plays the role of tachyon field and also non--minimally coupled to the matter lagrangian. The model shows current universe acceleration and also phantom crossing in the future. Two cosmological tests are also performed to validate the model; the difference in the distance modulus and the model independent Cosmological Redshift Drift (CRD) test.
We investigate the tachyon condensation process in the effective theory with non-vanishing minimum potential and its implications to cosmology. It is shown that the tachyon condensation on an unstable three-brane described by this modified tachyon field theory leads to lower-dimensional branes (defects) forming within a stable three-brane. Thus, in the cosmological background, we can get well-behaved tachyon matter after tachyon inflation, (partially) avoiding difficulties encountered in the original tachyon cosmological models. This feature also implies that the tachyon inflated and reheated …
This work is to study the generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics in tachyon cosmology where the boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by a dynamical apparent horizon. The model is constrained with the observational data. The two logarithmic and power law corrected entropy is also discussed and conditions to validate the GSL and corrected entropies are obtained.
We study a tachyon model with non-minimal derivative coupling to gravity in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker flat cosmology. We propose the special re-definition of the tachyon field which allows us to represent tachyon field equation formally coinciding with its usual form but with re-defined Hubble parameter. Two first integrals for the model equations are obtained that can essentially simplify both further analysis and analytical solving for the model. These integrals become the trivial identities in the case of minimal coupling. The effective energy density and pressure of the tachyon field …
Loop quantum cosmology (LQC) predicts a nonsingular evolution of the universe through a bounce in the high energy region. We show that this is always true in tachyon matter LQC. Different from the classical Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology, the super inflation can appear in the tachyon matter LQC; furthermore, the inflation can be extended to the region where classical inflation stops. Using numerical method, we give an evolution picture of the tachyon field with an exponential potential in the context of LQC. It indicates that the quantum dynamical solutions have the attractive behav…
We investigate the warm inflation condition in loop quantum cosmology. In our consideration, the system is described by a tachyon field interacted with radiation. The exponential potential function, $V(ϕ)=V_0 e^{-αϕ}\label{exp-p}$, with the same order parameters $V_0$ and $α$, is taken as an example of this tachyon warm inflation model. We find that, for the strong dissipative regime, the total number of e-folds is less than the one in the classical scenario, and for the weak dissipative regime, the beginning time of the warm inflation will be later than the tachyon (cool) inflation.
We investigate the observational signatures of quantum cosmology in the Cosmic Microwave Background data provided by Planck collaboration. We apply the warm inflationary paradigm with a tachyon scalar field to the loop quantum cosmology. In this context, we first provide the basic cosmological functions in terms of the tachyon field. We then obtain the slow-roll parameters and the power spectrum of scalar and tensor fluctuations respectively. Finally, we study the performance of various warm inflationary scenarios against the latest Planck data and we find a family of models which are in agree…
We propose in this paper an interacting holographic dark energy (IHDE) model in chameleon--tachyon cosmology by interaction between the components of the dark sectors. In the formalism, the interaction term emerges from the scalar field coupling matter lagrangian in the model rather than being inserted into the formalism as an external source for the interaction. The correspondence between the tachyon field and the holographic dark energy (HDE) densities allows to reconstruct the tachyon scalar field and its potential in a flat FRW universe. The model can show the accelerated expansion of the …
We study the general properties of attractors in a cosmological model with tachyonic potential and a scalar field non-minimally coupled to matter. A general analytic formulation is given to derive fixed points with a discussion on their stability. We also check the consistency of the model by fitting it to the supernovae type Ia data.
In this paper we study the tachyon cosmology in non-interacting and interacting cases in non-flat FRW universe. Then we reconstruct the potential and the dynamics of the tachyon field which describe tachyon cosmology.
The dynamical behavior of tachyon field with an inverse potential is investigated in loop quantum cosmology. It reveals that the late time behavior of tachyon field with this potential leads to a power-law expansion. In addition, an additional barotropic perfect fluid with the adiabatic index $0<γ<2$ is added, and the dynamical system is shown to be an autonomous one. The stability of this autonomous system is discussed using phase plane analysis. There exist up to five fixed points with only two of them possibly stable. The two stable node (attractor) solutions are specified, and their cosmol…
A Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological model dominated by tachyonic -- faster-than-light -- dark matter can exhibit features similar to those of a standard dark energy/dark matter or $Lambda$CDM model. It can undergo expansion which decelerates to a minimum rate, passes through a "cosmic jerk," then accelerates. But some features of a tachyon-dominated model are sufficiently distinct from those of the standard model that the two possibilities might be distinguished observationally. As a demonstration of concept, the distance-redshift relation of such a model is compared here with some obser…
We study a relation between the cosmological singularities in classical and quantum theory, comparing the classical and quantum dynamics in some models possessing the Big Brake singularity - the model based on a scalar field and two models based on a tachyon-pseudo-tachyon field . It is shown that the effect of quantum avoidance is absent for the soft singularities of the Big Brake type while it is present for the Big Bang and Big Crunch singularities. Thus, there is some kind of a classical - quantum correspondence, because soft singularities are traversable in classical cosmology, while the …
Loop quantum cosmology (LQC) predicts a nonsingular evolution of the universe through a bounce in the high energy region. But LQC has an ambiguity about the quantization scheme. Recently, the authors in [Phys. Rev. D 77, 124008 (2008)] proposed a new quantization scheme. Similar to others, this new quantization scheme also replaces the big bang singularity with the quantum bounce. More interestingly, it introduces a quantum singularity, which is traversable. We investigate this novel dynamics quantitatively with a tachyon scalar field, which gives us a concrete example. Our result shows that o…
After a brief introduction to the AdS/CFT holography a tachyon inflation will be discussed in the framework of holographic cosmology. The model is based on a holographic braneworld scenario with an effective tachyon field on a D3-brane located at the holographic bound of an asymptotic ADS$_5$ bulk.
Recently, we have investigated the dynamics of the universe in tachyon cosmology with non-minimal coupling to matter \cite{faraj}-\cite{faraj3}. In particular, for the interacting holographic dark energy (IHDE), the model is studied in \cite{Ravanpak}. In the current work, a significant observational program has been conducted to unveil the model's thermodynamic properties. Our result shows that the IHDE version of our model better fits the observational data than $Λ$CDM model. The first and generalized second thermodynamics laws for the universe enveloped by cosmological apparent and event ho…
The pressureless tachyonic matter recently found in superstring field theory has an over-abundance problem in cosmology. We argue that this problem is naturally solved in the brane inflationary scenario if almost all of the tachyon energy is drained (via its coupling to the inflaton and matter fields) to heating the universe, while the rest of the tachyon energy goes to a network of cosmic strings (lower-dimensional BPS D-branes) produced during the tachyon rolling at the end of inflation.
In this work we have investigated the emergent scenario of the universe described by Loop quantum cosmology model, DGP brane model and Kaluza-Klein cosmology. Scalar field along with barotropic fluid as normal matter is considered as the matter content of the universe. In Loop quantum cosmology it is found that the emergent scenario is realized with the imposition of some conditions on the value of the density of normal matter in case of normal and phantom scalar field. This is a surprising result indeed considering the fact that scalar field is the dominating matter component. In case of Tach…
We review the relevance of quantum rolling tachyons and corresponding inflation scenario in the frame of the standard, $p$-adic and adelic minisuperspace quantum cosmology. Assuming that the e-folding number is just determined by the change of the scale factor, the tachyonic inflation theory in LQC has been discussed. Considering the tachyon field with exponential potential and inverse quadratic potential, we find that the evolutionary pictures of super inflation are affected by the potentials and the initial conditions. However it cannot provide enough e-folding number, no matter which condition is chosen. Therefore a slow-rolling inflation is necessary. The e-folding number for slow-rolling inflation depends on the values of the parameter $α$ of the exponential…
To study quantum effects on the bulk tachyon dynamics, we replace $R$ with $f(R)$ in the low-energy effective action that couples gravity, the dilaton, and the bulk closed string tachyon of bosonic closed string theory and study properties of their classical solutions. The $α^{\prime}$ corrections of the graviton-dilaton-tachyon system are implemented in the $f(R)$. We obtain the tachyon-induced rolling solutions and show that the string metric does not need to remain fixed in some cases. The singular behavior of more classical solutions are investigated and found to be modified by quantum eff…
In this note we propose the use of an alternate action for the open string tachyon on a non-BPS $D3$-brane. At the classical level this action is precisely equivalent to the more commonly used DBI action, but involves an additional coupling to dynamical world-volume gravity. We find that, for a FRW metric, exponential expansion occurs provided that the cosmological constant is positive. For anti de-Sitter solutions we find a periodically bouncing universe, and there are no accelerating trajectories for a theory with no cosmological constant. In specific cases the acceleration is terminated by …
Tachyonic scalar field-driven late universe with dust matter content is considered. The cosmic expansion is modeled with power-law and phantom power-law expansion at late time, i.e. $z \lesssim 0.45$. WMAP7 and its combined data are used to constraint the model. The forms of potential and the field solution are different for quintessence and tachyonic cases. Power-law cosmology model (driven by either quintessence or tachyonic field) predicts unmatched equation of state parameter to the observational value, hence the power-law model is excluded for both quintessence and tachyonic field. In the…
We propose a new model of inflation in the framework of brane cosmology in the presence of tachyonic field. we derive the expressions for the model parameters in brane inflation, and estimate the observable parameters numerically and find them to fit with the observational data.
We study inflation, perturbations, non-gaussinity and late-time cosmological dynamics of a tachyon field both minimally and non-minimally coupled to gravity. By analyzing the parameters space of the model, the viability of the model in confrontation with recent observational data is considered. In a dynamical system technique, we study the phase space dynamics of both minimally and non-minimally coupled tachyon field. We find the fixed points (lines in our setup) and explore their stability. Also, we perform a statefinder diagnostic to both cases and show that the trajectories of the state fin…
Brane cosmology driven by the tachyon rolling down to its ground state is investigated. We adopt an effective field theoretical description for the tachyon and Randall-Sundrum type brane world scenario. After formulating basic equations, we show that the standard cosmology with a usual scalar field can mimic the low energy behavior of the system near the tachyon ground state. We also investigate qualitative behavior of the system beyond the low energy regime for positive, negative and vanishing 4-dimensional effective cosmological constant $Λ_4=κ_5^4V(T_0)^2/12-|Λ_5|/2$, where $κ_5$ and $Λ_5$ …
An analytical approach for studying the cosmological scenario with a homogeneous tachyon field within the framework of loop quantum gravity is developed. Our study is based on the semi-classical regime where space time can be approximated as a continuous manifold, but matter Hamiltonian gets non-perturbative quantum corrections. A formal correspondence between classical and loop quantum cosmology is also established. The Hamilton-Jacobi method for getting exact solutions is constructed and some exact power-law as well as bouncing solutions are presented.

We perform a thorough phase-plane analysis of the flow defined by the equations of motion of a FRW universe filled with a tachyonic fluid plus a barotropic one. The tachyon potential is assumed to be of inverse square form, thus allowing for a two-dimensional autonomous system of equations. The Friedmann constraint, combined with a convenient choice of coordinates, renders the physical state compact. We find the fixed-point solutions, and discuss whether they represent attractors or not. The way the two fluids contribute at late-times to the fractional energy density depends on how fast the ba…
We study cosmological effects of homogeneous tachyon field as dark energy. We concentrate on two different scalar field potentials, the inverse square potential and the exponential potential. These models have a unique feature that the matter density parameter and the density parameter for tachyons remain comparable for a large range in redshift. It is shown that there exists a range of parameters for which the universe undergoes an accelerated expansion and the evolution is consistent with structure formation requirements. For a viable model we require fine tuning of parameters comparable to …
We study a tachyon cosmological model based on the dynamics of a 3-brane in the bulk of the second Randall-Sundrum model extended to more general warp functions. A well known prototype of such a generalization is the bulk with a selfinteracting scalar field. As a consequence of a generalized bulk geometry the cosmology on the observer brane is modified by the scale dependent four-dimensional gravitational constant. In particular we study a power law warp factor which generates an inverse power-law potential $V\propto φ^{-n}$ of the tachyon field $φ$. We find a critical power $n_{\rm cr}$ that …
We consider the evolution of FRW cosmological models and linear perturbations of tachyon matter rolling towards a minimum of its potential. The tachyon coupled to gravity is described by an effective 4d field theory of string theory tachyon. In the model where a tachyon potential $V(T)$ has a quadratic minimum at finite value of the tachyon field $T_0$ and $V(T_0)=0$, the tachyon condensate oscillates around its minimum with a decreasing amplitude. It is shown that its effective equation of state is $p=-ε/3$. However, linear inhomogeneous tachyon fluctuations coupled to the oscillating backgro…
We compare the existing observational data on type Ia Supernovae with the evolutions of the universe predicted by a one-parameter family of tachyon models which we have introduced recently in paper \cite{we-tach}. Among the set of the trajectories of the model which are compatible with the data there is a consistent subset for which the universe ends up in a new type of soft cosmological singularity dubbed Big Brake. This opens up yet another scenario for the future history of the universe besides the one predicted by the standard $Λ$CDM model.
We study the tachyon scalar field model in flat FRW cosmology with the particular potential $ϕ^{-2}$ and the scale factor behavior $a(t)=t^n$. We consider the spherical collapse model and investigate the effects of the tachyon scalar field on the structure formation in flat FRW universe. We calculate $δ_{c}(z_{c})$, $λ(z_{c})$, $ξ(z_{c})$, $Δ_{V}(z_{c})$, $\log [νf(ν)]$ and $\log [n(k)]$ for the tachyon scalar field model and compare the results with the results of EdS model and $ΛCDM$ model. It is shown that in the tachyon scalar field model the structure formation may occur earlier, in compa…
We investigate observational constraints on inflationary parameters in the context of an holographic cosmology with an induced gravity correction. We consider two situations where a universe is firstly filled with a scalar field and secondly with a tachyon field. Both cases are investigated in a slow-roll regime. We adopt a quadratic potential and an exponential potential for the scalar and the tachyon inflation respectively. In this regard, the standard background and perturbative parameters characterizing the inflationary era are modified by correction terms. We show a good agreement between…
We present a detailed study of cosmological effects of homogeneous tachyon matter coexisting with non-relativistic matter and radiation, concentrating on the inverse square potential and the exponential potential for the tachyonic scalar field. A distinguishing feature of these models (compared to other cosmological models) is that the matter density parameter and the density parameter for tachyons remain comparable even in the matter dominated phase. For the exponential potential, the solutions have an accelerating phase, followed by a phase with a(t) ~ t^{2/3} as t goes to infinity. This eli…
In this paper we investigate a tachyon field model in cosmology, provided its interaction with the quintessence or phantom fields. The model takes into account this interaction beyond the usual approach, in which the interaction is phenomenologically described by the energy flow between the matter components. In our model, the interaction of tachyon field with a canonical scalar field is taken into account through the interaction potential in the total Lagrangian of the system, like in the case of two or more canonical scalar fields. We obtain the different types of exact solution for the model…
We consider a class of tachyon-like potentials, inspired by string theory, D-brane dynamics and cosmology in the context of classical and quantum mechanics. Motivated by the trans-Plankcian problem in the very early stage of cosmological evolution of the Universe, we consider the theoretical role of DBI-type tachyon scalar field, defined over the field of real as well as $p$-adic numbers, i.e. archemedean and nonarchimedean spaces. To simplify the equation of motion for the scalar field, canonical transformations are defined and engaged. The corresponding quantum propagators in the Feynman pat…
We investigate light-cone structure on the world-volume of an unstable D-brane with a tachyon decaying inhomogeneously by using a field theoretical description. It is shown that (i) light-cones governing open strings are narrower than those governing closed strings and will eventually collapse inward in all directions except at kinks, where the tachyon remains at the top of its potential; and that (ii) light-cones governing open strings at a kink will be narrowed only in the direction perpendicular to the kink surface. It is also shown that (iii) future-directed light-cones governing open stri…
Modified Chaplygin gas as an exotic fluid has been introduced in [34]. Essential features of the modified Chaplygin gas as a cosmological model are discussed. Observational constraints on the parameters of the model have been included. The relationship between the modified Chaplygin gas and a homogeneous minimally coupled scalar field are reevaluated by constructing its self-interacting potential. In addition, we study the role of the tachyonic field in the modified Chaplygin gas cosmological model and the mapping between scalar field and tachyonic field is also considered.
The Einstein-Friedmann Universe as whole quantum object can be treated as bosonic string mass groundstate, called a tachyon, having negative mass square and a speed more than the speed of light. I present a brief review of results obtained from this point of view called Many-Particle Quantum Gravity approach - the monodromy problem in the Fock space, thermodynamics of the Universe, and the extremal tachyon mass model.
We consider an Anti-de Sitter universe filled by quantum conformal matter with the contribution from the usual tachyon and a perfect fluid. The model represents the combination of a trace-anomaly annihilated and a tachyon driven Anti-de Sitter universe. The influence exerted by the quantum effects and by the tachyon on the AdS space is studied. The radius corresponding to this universe is calculated and the effect of the tachyon potential is discussed, in particular, concerning to the possibility to get an accelerated scale factor for the proposed model (implying an accelerated expansion of th…
In this work we illustrate how form-invariance transformations (FIT) can be used to construct phantom and complementary tachyon cosmologies from standard tachyon field universes. We show how these transformations act on the Hubble expansion rate, the energy density, and pressure of the tachyon field. The FIT generate new cosmologies from a known "seed" one, in particular from the ordinary tachyon field we obtain two types of tachyon species, denominated phantom and complementary tachyon. We see that the FIT allow us to pass from a non-stable cosmology to a stable one and vice-versa, as appeare…
We study the fate of gravitational collapse of a tachyon field matter. In presence of an inverse square potential a black hole forms. Loop quantum corrections lead to the avoidance of classical singularities, which is followed by an outward flux of energy.
Closed string tachyon condensation in spacetime generates potentials on the worldsheet that model two-dimensional inflationary cosmology. These models illustrate and elucidate a variety of aspects of inflation, in particular the generation of quantum fluctuations and their back-reaction on geometry. We exhibit a class of Liouville gravity models coupled to matter that can exhibit, for example: (a) pure de Sitter gravity; (b) slow-roll inflation; (c) topological inflation; and (d) graceful exit into an FRW phase. The models also provide a quantitative testing ground for ideas about the origin o…
We briefly discuss new models of an `affine' theory of gravity in multidimensional space-times with symmetric connections. We use and generalize Einstein's proposal to specify the space-time geometry by use of the Hamilton principle to determine the connection coefficients from a geometric Lagrangian that is an arbitrary function of the generalized Ricci curvature tensor and of other fundamental tensors. Such a theory supplements the standard Einstein gravity with dark energy (the cosmological constant, in the first approximation), a neutral massive (or tachyonic) vector field vecton, and mass…
We examine solutions to the classical IKKT matrix model equations in three space-time dimensions. Closed, open and static two-dimensional universes naturally emerge from such models in the commutative limit. We show that tachyonic modes are a generic feature of these cosmological solutions.
We study a minimally coupled tachyon field rolling down to its ground state on the FRW brane. We construct tacyonic potential which can implements power law inflation in the brane world cosmology. The potential turns out to be ${V_0 ϕ^{-1}}$ on the brane and reduces to inverse square potential at late times when brane corrections to the Friedmann equation become negligible. We also do similar exercise with a normal scalar field and discover that the inverse square potential on the brane leads to power law inflation.
The bouncing cosmology provides a successful solution of the cosmological singularity problem. In this paper, we study the bouncing behavior of a single scalar field model with tachyon field non-minimally coupled to itself, its derivative and to the curvature. By utilizing the numerical calculations we will show that the bouncing solution can appear in the universe dominated by such a quintom matter with equation of state crossing the phantom divide line. We also investigate the classical stability of our model using the phase velocity of the homogeneous perturbations of the tachyon scalar fie…
We consider a spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a tachyon field with an inverse square potential, which is coupled with a barotropic fluid. By employing an holonomy correction imported from loop quantum cosmology, we analyse the dynamics of the collapse within a semiclassical description. Using a dynamical system approach, we find that the stable fixed points given by the standard general relativistic setting turn into saddle points in the present context. This provides a new dynamics in contrast to the black hole and naked singularities solutions appearing in the classical model…
We study warm-tachyon inflationary universe model in the context of the effective field theory of loop quantum cosmology. In slow-roll approximation the primordial perturbation spectrums for this model are calculated. We also obtain the general expressions of the tensor-to-scalar ratio, scalar spectral index. We develop this model by using exponential potential, the characteristics of this model is calculated in great details. The parameters of the model are restricted by recent observational data from Planck, WMAP9 and BICEP2.
In this paper we study the tachyonic inflation in brane world cosmology with Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk. We obtain the exact solution of slow roll equations in case of exponential potential. We attempt to implement the proposal of Lidsey and Nunes, astro-ph/0303168, for the tachyon condensate rolling on the Gauss-Bonnet brane and discuss the difficulties associated with the proposal.
Recent analysis suggests that the classical dynamics of a tachyon on an unstable D-brane is described by a scalar Born-Infeld type action with a runaway potential. The classical configurations in this theory at late time are in one to one correspondence with the configuration of a system of non-interacting (incoherent), non-rotating dust. We discuss some aspects of canonical quantization of this field theory coupled to gravity, and explore, following earlier work on this subject, the possibility of using the scalar field (tachyon) as the definition of time in quantum cosmology. At late `time' …
We discuss an effective field theory background containing the gravitational field, the dilaton and a closed string tachyon, and couple this background to a gas of fundamental strings and D strings. Allowing for the possibility of a non-vanishing dilaton potential of Casimir type, we demonstrate the possibility of obtaining a nonsingular, static tachyon condensate phase with fixed dilaton. The time reversal of our solution provides a candidate effective field theory description of a Hagedorn phase of string gas cosmology with fixed dilaton.
We examine whether tachyon matter is a viable candidate for the cosmological dark matter. First, we demonstrate that in order for the density of tachyon matter to have an acceptable value today, the magnitude of the tachyon potential energy at the onset of rolling must be finely tuned. For a tachyon potential $V(T)\sim M_{Pl}^4\exp(-T/τ)$, the tachyon must start rolling at $T\simeq 60τ$ in order for the density of tachyon matter today to satisfy $Ω_{T,0}\sim 1$, provided that standard big bang cosmology begins at the same time as the tachyon begins to roll. In this case, the value of $Ω_{T,0}$…
We analyze the inflationary scenario based on the tachyon field coupled with the radion of the second Randall-Sundrum model (RSII). The tachyon Lagrangian is derived from the dynamics of a 3-brane moving in the five dimensional bulk. The AdS$_5$ geometry of the bulk is extended to include the radion. Using the Hamiltonian formalism we find four nonlinear field equations supplemented by the modified Friedmann equations of the RSII braneworld cosmology. After a suitable rescaling we reduce the parameters of our model to only one free parameter related to the brane tension and the AdS$_5$ curvatu…
We consider the Noether Symmetry Approach for a cosmological model derived from a tachyon scalar field $T$ with a Dirac-Born-Infeld Lagrangian and a potential $V(T)$. Furthermore, we assume a coupled canonical scalar field $ϕ$ with an arbitrary interaction potential $B(T,ϕ)$. Exact solutions are derived consistent with the accelerated behavior of cosmic fluid.
