We determine the numbers of integral tetrahedra with diameter $d$ up to isomorphism for all $d\le 1000$ via computer enumeration. Therefore we give an algorithm that enumerates the integral tetrahedra with diameter at most $d$ in $O(d^5)$ time and an algorithm that can check the canonicity of a given integral tetrahedron with at most 6 integer comparisons. For the number of isomorphism classes of integral $4\times 4$ matrices with diameter $d$ fulfilling the triangle inequalities we derive an exact formula.
We consider the problem of enumerating integer tetrahedra of fixed perimeter (sum of side-lengths) and/or diameter (maximum side-length), up to congruence. As we will see, this problem is considerably more difficult than the corresponding problem for triangles, which has long been solved. We expect there are no closed-form solutions to the tetrahedron enumeration problems, but we explore the extent to which they can be approached via classical methods, such as orbit enumeration. We also discuss algorithms for computing the numbers, and present several tables and figures that can be used to vis…
Drawing together techniques from combinatorics and computer science, we improve the census algorithm for enumerating closed minimal P^2-irreducible 3-manifold triangulations. In particular, new constraints are proven for face pairing graphs, and pruning techniques are improved using a modification of the union-find algorithm. Using these results we catalogue all 136 closed non-orientable P^2-irreducible 3-manifolds that can be formed from at most ten tetrahedra.
In weighted trees, all edges are endowed with positive integral weight. We enumerate weighted bicolored plane trees according to their weight and number of edges.
Many enumeration problems in combinatorics, including such fundamental questions as the number of regular graphs, can be expressed as high-dimensional complex integrals. Motivated by the need for a systematic study of the asymptotic behaviour of such integrals, we establish explicit bounds on the exponentials of complex martingales. Those bounds applied to the case of truncated normal distributions are precise enough to include and extend many enumerative results of Barvinok, Canfield, Gao, Greenhill, Hartigan, Isaev, McKay, Wang, Wormald, and others. Our method applies to sums as well as inte…
This chapter is an introduction to the connection between random matrices and maps, i.e graphs drawn on surfaces. We concentrate on the one-matrix model and explain how it encodes and allows to solve a map enumeration problem.
Let $g_{n_1,n_2}$ be the number of standard Young tableau of truncated shifted shape with $n_1$ rows and $n_2$ boxes in each row. By using of the integral method this paper derives the recurrence relations of $g_{3,n}$, $g_{n,4}$ and $g_{n,5}$ respectively. Specially, $g_{n,4}$ is the $(2n-1)$-st Pell number.
A seminal technique of theoretical physics called Wick's theorem interprets the Gaussian matrix integral of the products of the trace of powers of Hermitian matrices as the number of labelled maps with a given degree sequence, sorted by their Euler characteristics. This leads to the map enumeration results analogous to those obtained by combinatorial methods. In this paper we show that the enumeration of the graphs embeddable on a given 2-dimensional surface (a main research topic of contemporary enumerative combinatorics) can also be formulated as the Gaussian matrix integral of an ice-type p…
A recursive method is given for finding generating functions which enumerate rooted hypermaps by number of vertices, edges and faces for any given number of darts. It makes use of matrix-integral expressions arising from the study of bipartite quantum systems. Direct evaluation of these generating functions is then demonstrated through the enumeration of all rooted hypermaps with up to 13 darts.
We obtain an explicit formula for a certain weighted enumeration of lozenge tilings of a hexagon with an arbitrary triangular hole. The complexity of our expression depends on the distance from the hole to the center of the hexagon. This proves and generalizes conjectures of Ciucu et al., who considered the case of plain enumeration when the triangle is located at or very near the center. Our proof uses Askey-Wilson polynomials as a tool to relate discrete and continuous Selberg-type integrals.
A linear chord diagram canonically determines a fatgraph and hence has an associated genus $g$. We compute the natural generating function ${\bf C}_g(z)=\sum_{n\geq 0} {\bf c}_g(n)z^n$ for the number ${\bf c}_g(n)$ of linear chord diagrams of fixed genus $g\geq 1$ with a given number $n\geq 0$ of chords and find the remarkably simple formula ${\bf C}_g(z)=z^{2g}R_g(z) (1-4z)^{{1\over 2}-3g}$, where $R_g(z)$ is a polynomial of degree at most $g-1$ with integral coefficients satisfying $R_g({1\over 4})\neq 0$ and $R_g(0) = {\bf c}_g(2g)\neq 0.$ In particular, ${\bf C}_g(z)$ is algebraic over $\m…
A method to obtain all-order asymptotic results for the coefficients of perturbative expansions in zero-dimensional quantum field is described. The focus is on the enumeration of the number of skeleton or primitive diagrams of a certain QFT and its asymptotics. The procedure heavily applies techniques from singularity analysis and is related to resurgence. To utilize singularity analysis, a representation of the zero-dimensional path integral as a generalized hyperelliptic curve is deduced. As applications the full asymptotic expansions of the number of disconnected, connected, 1PI and skeleto…
A magic series is a set of natural numbers that, by virtue of its size, sum, and maximum value, could fill a row of a normal magic square. In this paper, we derive an exact two-dimensional integral representation for the number of magic series of order N. By applying the stationary phase approximation, we develop an expansion in powers of 1/N for the number of magic series and calculate the first few terms. We find excellent agreement between our approximation and the known exact values. Related results are presented for magic cube and hypercube series, bimagic series, and trimagic series.
A one-to-one correspondence is proved between the N-rooted ribbon graphs, or maps, with e edges and the (e-N+1)-loop Feynman diagrams of a certain quantum field theory. This result is used to obtain explicit expressions and relations for the generating functions of N-rooted maps and for the numbers of N-rooted maps with a given number of edges using the path integral approach applied to the corresponding quantum field theory.
Two types of connected chord diagrams with chord endpoints lying in a collection of ordered and oriented real segments are considered here: the real segments may contain additional bivalent vertices in one model but not in the other. In the former case, we record in a generating function the number of fatgraph boundary cycles containing a fixed number of bivalent vertices while in the latter, we instead record the number of boundary cycles of each fixed length. Second order, non-linear, algebraic partial differential equations are derived which are satisfied by these generating functions in ea…
