Using 383 million BBbar pairs from the BaBar data sample, we report results for branching fractions of six charged B-meson decay modes, where a charged kaon recoils against a charmless resonance decaying to KKbar* or etapipi final states with mass in the range (1.2-1.8)gev/c^2. We observe a significant enhancement at the low KK*bar invariant mass which is interpreted as B+ --> eta(1475)K+, find evidence for the decay B+ --> eta(1295)K+, and place upper limits on the decays B+ --> eta(1405)K+, B+ --> f_1(1285)K+, B+ --> f_1(1420)K+, and B+ --> phi(1680)K+.
We present updated measurements of the branching fractions for B0 meson decays to etaK0, etaeta, etaphi, etaomega, eta'K0, eta'eta', eta'phi, and eta'omega, and branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries for B+ decays to etapi+, etaK+, eta'pi+ and eta'K+. The data represent the full dataset of 467 10^{6} BB pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Besides large signals for the four charged B decay modes and for B0\to eta'K0, we find evidence for three B0 decay modes at greater than 3.0sigma s…
We present measurements of the branching fractions for B0 meson decays to eta'K0 and omegaK0, and of the branching fractions and CP-violation charge asymmetries for B+ meson decays to etapi+, etaK+, eta'pi+, eta'K+, omegapi+, and omegaK+. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, represent 383 million BBbar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation. The measurements agree with previous results; we find no evidence for direct CP violation.
We describe searches for decays of B mesons to the charmless final states eta' eta' K. The data consist of 228 million B Bbar pairs produced in e+ e- annihilation, collected with the BaBar detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The 90% confidence level upper limits for the branching fractions are Br(B0->eta' eta' K0)<31 10^{-6} and Br(B+->eta' eta' K+)<25 10^{-6}.
Using 281 pb^-1 of data collected with the CLEO-c detector, we present new measurements of Cabibbo-suppressed decays of D0 and D+ mesons to eta and eta' final states. We make first observations of D0-->eta'pi0, eta eta, eta eta', and eta pi+ pi-, and find evidence for D+ --> eta pi+ pi0$, D+ --> eta' pi+ pi0 and D0 --> eta' pi+ pi-. We also report on improved measurements of D0-->eta pi0, D+ --> eta pi+ and D+ --> etap' pi+. Using the measured two-body Cabibbo-suppressed decays, we extract amplitudes for specific flavor topologies and compare them to those from Cabibbo-favored decays.
We measure the mass of the eta' meson using psi(2S)--> pi+ pi- J/psi, J/psi--> gamma eta' events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. Using three decay modes, eta'--> rho0 gamma, eta'--> pi+ pi- eta with eta--> gamma gamma, and eta'--> pi+ pi- eta with eta--> pi+ pi- pi0, we find M(eta') = 957.793 +- 0.054 +- 0.036 MeV, in which the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is consistent with but substantially more precise than the current world average.
In a sample of 19 million produced B mesons, we have observed the decays B -> eta K* and improved our previous measurements of B -> eta'K. The branching fractions we measure for these decay modes are BR(B+ -> eta K*+) = (26.4 +9.6-8.2 +- 3.3) x $10^{-6}$, BR(B0 -> eta K*0) = (13.8 +5.5-4.6 +- 1.6) x $10^{-6}$, BR(B+ -> eta' K+) = (80 +10-9 +- 7) x $10^{-6}$ and BR(B0 -> eta' K0) = (89 +18-16 +- 9) x $10^{-6}$. We have searched with comparable sensitivity for related decays and report upper limits for these branching fractions.
We present measurements of B-meson decays to the final states eta'rho, eta'f0, and eta'K*, where K* stands for a vector, scalar, or tensor strange meson. We observe a significant signal or evidence for eta'rho+ and all the eta'K* channels. We also measure, where applicable, the charge asymmetries, finding results consistent with no direct CP-violation in all cases. The measurements are performed on a data sample consisting of 467 x 10^6 B-Bbar pairs, collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Our results favor the theoretical pred…
We present measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for the decays etaK*, where K* indicates a spin 0, 1, or 2 Kpi system. The data sample corresponds to 344x10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. We measure the branching fractions (in units of 10^-6): BR(B0->etaK*0)=16.5\pm1.1\pm0.8, BR(B+->etaK*+)=18.9\pm1.8\pm1.3, BR(B0->eta(Kpi)_0*0)=11.0\pm1.6\pm1.5, BR(B+->eta(Kpi)_0*+)=18.2\pm2.6\pm 2.6, BR(B0->etaK_2*0(1430))=9.6\pm1.8\pm1.1, and BR(B+->etaK_2*+(1430))=9.1\pm2.7\pm 1.4. We also determine the charge asy…
We present preliminary measurements of the B meson decays B+->etapi+, B+->etaK+, and B0->etaK0. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at PEP II and correspond to 88.9 million BBbar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation through the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We find the branching fractions B(B+->etapi+) = (4.2 +1.0-0.9 +/- 0.3)x 10^-6 and B(B+->etaK+) = (2.8 +0.8-0.7 +/-0.2)x10^-6. We set a 90% CL upper limit of B(B0->etaK0) < 4.6x10^-6. The time-integrated charge asymmetries are Ach(B+->etapi+) = -0.51 +0.20-0.18 +/-0.01 and Ach(B+->etaK+) = -0.32 +0.22-0.18 +/-0.01.
We present preliminary results of a study of the two-body B-meson decays to a charmonium state (ccbar) and a K+ or K*0(892) meson using a sample of about 349 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. Here ccbar indicates either the eta_c state, reconstructed in the K_S K+- pi-+ and K+K-pi0 decay channels, or the h_c state, reconstructed in its decay to eta_c gamma. We measure BR(B0 -> eta_c K*0)=(6.1+-0.8_stat +- 1.1_syst) * 10-4, BR(B+ -> h_c K+) * BR(h_c -> eta_c gamma)<5.2 * 10-5 and BR(B0 -> h_c K*0) * BR(h_c -> eta_c gamma)<2.41 * 10…
We report preliminary measurements of the exclusive charmless semileptonic branching fractions of the B+ --> eta l+ nu and B+ --> eta' l+ nu decays. These measurements are based on 316 fb-1 of data collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BABAR detector. In events in which the decay of one B meson to a hadronic final state is fully reconstructed, the semileptonic decay of the recoiling B meson is identified by the detection of a charged lepton and an eta or eta'. We measure the branching fraction BR(B+ --> eta l+ nu) = (0.84 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.21) x 10-4, where the first error is statistical and th…
We measure the mass of the eta meson using psi(2S) --> eta J/psi events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. Using the four decay modes eta --> gamma gamma, 3pi0, pi+pi-pi0, and pi+pi-gamma, we find M(eta)=547.785 +- 0.017 +- 0.057 MeV, in which the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result has an uncertainty comparable to the two most precise previous measurements and is consistent with that of NA48, but is inconsistent at the level of 6.5sigma with the much smaller mass obtained by GEM.
We measure the inclusive branching fractions of charm mesons into three mesons with large s-anti-s content, namely the eta, eta' and phi. Data were accumulated with the CLEO-c detector. For D0 and D+ rates, we use 281/pb taken on the psi(3770) resonance, and for Ds+ rates, we use 195/pb taken at 4170 MeV. We find that the production rates of these particles are larger in Ds+ decays than in D0 and D+ decays. The phi rate, in particular, is 15 times greater. These branching fractions can be used to measure Bs yields either at the Upsilon(5S) resonance or at hadron colliders.
We present a search for B0 decays to charmless final states involving an eta meson, a charged pion and a second charged pion or kaon. The data sample corresponds to 383x10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector operating at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We find no significant signals and determine the following 90% C.L. upper limits: BR(B->a0-pi+) x BR(a0- -> etapi-) < 3.1x10^-6, BR(B->a0-K+) x BR(a0- -> etapi-) < 1.9x10^-6, BR(B->a0(1450)-pi+) x BR(a0(1450)- -> etapi-) < 2.3x10^-6, BR(B->a0(1450)-K+) x BR(a0(1450)- -> etapi-) < 3.1x10^-6, BR(B->etarho0) < 1.5x10^-6,…

We search for B meson decays into two-body combinations of eta, eta', omega, and phi mesons from 89 million B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. We find the branching fraction BF(B0 -> eta omega) = (4.0^{+1.3}_{-1.2} +- 0.4) x 10^-6 with a significance of 4.3 sigma. For all the other decay modes we set the following 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, in units of 10^-6 : BF(B0 -> eta eta)<2.8, BF(B0 -> eta eta')<4.6, BF(B0 -> eta' eta')<10, BF(B0 -> eta'omega)<2.8, BF(B0 -> eta phi)<1.0, BF(B0 -> eta' p…
Using data collected near the Ds*+ Ds- peak production energy Ecm = 4170 MeV by the CLEO-c detector, we study the decays of Ds+ mesons to two pseudoscalar mesons. We report on searches for the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed Ds+ decay modes K+ eta, K+ eta', pi+ K0S, K+ pi0, and the isospin-forbidden decay mode Ds+ to pi+ pi0. We normalize with respect to the Cabibbo-favored Ds+ modes pi+ eta, pi+ eta', and K+ K0S, and obtain ratios of branching fractions: Ds+ to K+ eta / Ds+ to pi+ eta = (8.9 +- 1.5 +- 0.4)%, Ds+ to K+ eta' / Ds+ to pi+ eta' = (4.2 +- 1.3 +- 0.3)%, Ds+ to pi+ K0S / Ds+ to K+ K0S = (…
The mass and total width of the eta_c meson have been measured in two-photon interactions at the SLAC asymmetric B-Factory with the BABAR detector. With a sample of approximately 2500 reconstructed eta_c -> Ks K pi decays in 88 fb-1 of data, the measured eta_c mass and width are respectively 2982.5 +- 1.1 (stat) +- 0.9 (syst) MeV/c2 and 34.3 +- 2.3 (stat) +- 0.9 (syst) MeV/c2. Using the same decay mode, a second resonance with 112 +- 24 events is observed with a mass of 3630.8 +- 3.4 (stat) +- 1.0 (syst) MeV/c2 and width of 17.0 +- 8.3 (stat) +- 2.5 (syst) MeV/c2. This observation is consisten…
We have studied hadronic tau decay modes involving an eta meson using 490 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The following branching fractions have been measured: B(tau- -> K- eta nu)=(1.58 +- 0.05 +- 0.09)x 10^{-4}, B(tau- -> K- pi0 eta nu)=(4.6 +- 1.1 +- 0.4)x 10^{-5}, B(tau- -> pi- pi0 eta nu)=(1.35 +- 0.03 +- 0.07)x 10^{-3}, B(tau- -> pi- KS eta nu)=(4.4 +- 0.7 +- 0.2)x 10^{-5}, and B(tau- -> K^{*-} eta nu)=(1.34 +- 0.12 +- 0.09)x 10^{-4}. These results are substantially more precise than previous measurements. The new measurement…
We report measurements of branching fractions for the decays B --> P l nu, where P are the pseudoscalar charmless mesons pi-, pi0, eta and eta', based on 348 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector, using B0 and B+ mesons found in the recoil of a second B meson decaying as B --> D(*) l nu. Assuming isospin symmetry, we combine pionic branching fractions to obtain B(B0 --> pi- l+ nu) = (1.54 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.09(syst)) x 10-4; we find 3.2 sigma evidence of the decay B+ --> eta l+ nu and measure its branching fraction to be (0.64 +/- 0.20 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst)) x 10-4, and determine B…
According to the quark model, the masses of eta and eta' mesons should be almost equal. However, the empirical values of these masses differ by more than the factor of two. Similarly, though the almost the same quark-antiquark content, the total cross section for the creation of these mesons close to the kinematical thresholds in the pp --> ppX reaction differs significantly. Using the COSY-11 detection setup we intend to determine whether this difference will also be so significant in the case of the production of these mesons in the proton-neutron scattering. Additionally, the comparison of …
Fermilab experiment E835 has studied reactions \bar{p}p -> pi0 pi0, pi0 eta, eta eta, pi0 eta' and eta eta' in the energy region of the chi_c0(1^3P_0) from 3340 MeV to 3470 MeV. Interference between resonant and continuum production is observed in the pi0 pi0 and eta eta channels, and the product of the input and output branching fractions is measured. Limits on resonant production are set for the pi0 eta and pi0 eta' channels. An indication of interference is observed in the eta eta' channel. The technique for extracting resonance parameters in an environment dominated by continuum production…
The low emittance and small momentum spread of the proton and deuteron beams of the Cooler Synchrotron COSY combined with the high mass resolution of the COSY-11 detection system permit to study the creation of mesons in the nucleon-nucleon interaction down to the fraction of MeV with respect to the kinematical threshold. At such small excess energies, the ejectiles possess low relative momenta and are predominantly produced with the relative angular momentum equal to zero. Taking advantage of these conditions we have performed investigations aiming to determine the mechanism of the production…
We study two-body $B$-meson decays to a charmonium state ($η_c$, $η_c(2S)$ or $h_c$) and a $K^+$ or $K^{*0}(892)$ meson using a sample of $349 fb^{-1}$ of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$ Factory at SLAC. We measure $BR(B^0\toη_c K^{*0})=(5.7\pm0.6 (stat)\pm0.9 (syst))\times 10^{-4}$, $BR(B^0\toη_c(2S) K^{*0})<3.9\times 10^{-4}$, $BR(B^+\to h_c K^+)\times BR(h_c\toη_cγ)<4.8\times 10^{-5}$ and $BR(B^0\to h_c K^{*0})\times BR(h_c\toη_cγ)<2.2\times 10^{-4}$ at the 90% C.L., and $BR(η_c(2S)\to K \bar{K} π)=(1.9\pm0.4 (stat) \pm1.1 (syst))%$. We also measur…
We present preliminary results of a search for the decay B0 -> eta' phi. The data were recorded with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson Factory at SLAC and correspond to 89 million B B-bar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We find no evidence for a signal and set a 90% CL upper limit of BF(B0 -> eta' phi) < 1.0 x 10^-6
We present preliminary measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for the B meson decays B -> eta(')K*, B -> eta(')rho, and B+ -> eta' pi+. The data were recorded with the BaBar detector at PEP-II and correspond to 89 x 10^6 B B-bar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation through the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We find the branching fractions B(B0 -> eta K*0) = (19.0 +2.2 -2.1 +/- 1.3) x 10^-6, B(B+ -> eta K*+) = (25.7 +3.8 -3.6 +/- 1.8) x 10^-6, B(B+ -> eta rho+) = (10.5 +3.1 -2.8 +/- 1.3) x 10^-6, B(B+ -> eta' rho+) = (14.0 +5.1 -4.6 +/- 1.9) x 10^-6 (< 22 x 10^-6 with 90% confidence)…
In a sample of 6.6 million produced B mesons we have observed decays B -> eta' K, with branching fractions BR(B+ -> eta' K+ = 6.5 +1.5 -1.4 +- 0.9) x $10^{-5}$ and BR(B0 -> eta' K0 = 4.7 +2.7 -2.0 +- 0.9) x $10^{-5}$. We have searched with comparable sensitivity for 17 related decays to final states containing an eta or eta' meson accompanied by a single particle or low-lying resonance. Our upper limits for these constrain theoretical interpretations of the B -> eta' K signal.
We describe the status of the analyses in progress on light meson spectroscopy in the KLOE experiment. We present the analyses of phi decays into f0(980)gamma and a0(980)gamma, the Dalitz plot analysis of the eta to pie+ pie- pie0 decay, the branching ratio measurement of eta to pie0 gamma gamma, the upper limits on Br(eta to 3 gamma) and Br(eta to pie^+ pie^-), the measurement of the ratio Br(phi to eta' gamma)/Br(phi to eta gamma) and phi leptonic width measurements.
Using a sample of 2.59 times 10^7 psi(2S) decays collected by the CLEO--c detector, we present results of a study of chi_{c0} and chi_{c2} decays into two-meson final states. We present the world's most precise measurements of the chi_{cJ,(J=0,2)} -> pi^+pi^-, pi^0 pi^0, K^+K^-, K^0_S K^0_S, eta eta and eta^{prime} eta^{prime} branching fractions, and a search for chi_c decays into eta eta^{prime}. These results shed light on the mechanism of charmonium decays into pseudoscalar mesons.
One of the objectives of the vast physics programme of the recently comissioned WASA-at-COSY facility is the study of fundamental symmetries via the measurements of the eta and eta-prime mesons decays. Especially interesting are isospin violating hadronic precesses of these mesons into 3pi systems driven by the term of QCD Lagrangian which depends on the mass difference of the u and d quarks. When an eta or an eta-prime meson is created in the hadronic reaction signals from such decays may be significantly obscured by the prompt production of pi mesons. In this thesis we present the estimation…
In this work we present the preliminary results of the analysis of the pp->pp eta(->pp pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) reaction aiming to test the charge conjugation symmetry C in strong interactions. Based on approximately $10^5$ identified eta->pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) decay events we have extracted asymmetry parameters sensitive to C symmetry violation for different isospin values of the final state and we have established that all are consistent with zero within the obtained accuracy.
The Crystal Ball at MAMI setup offers an excellent possibility to study decays of the eta and eta' meson. Here, recent results of the Crystal Ball at MAMI experiment from eta meson decays are presented. Furthermore, future perspectives of this experiment in the field of eta and eta' physics are described.
We present results on the production of high transverse momentum pizero and eta mesons in pp and pBe interactions at 530 and 800 GeV/c. The data span the kinematic ranges: 1 < p_T < 10 GeV/c in transverse momentum and 1.5 units in rapidity. The inclusive pizero cross sections are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations and to expectations based on a phenomenological parton-k_T model.
We present the results of recent work on the central exclusive production of meson pairs. We concentrate on the case of flavour-singlet pseudoscalar mesons eta, eta' and show that the central exclusive process, as modelled using a recent novel application of the 'hard exclusive' perturbative formalism, is potentially highly sensitive to the size of the gluon content of these states. We also discuss the exclusive production of meson pairs in the lower mass region, and present the first results of the new Dime Monte Carlo.
We have performed a search for the eta_b(1S) meson in the radiative decay of the Upsilon(2S) resonance using a sample of 91.6 million Upsilon(2S) events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We observe a peak in the photon energy spectrum at E_gamma = 609.3 {+4.6} {-4.5} (stat) +/- 1.9 (syst) MeV, corresponding to an eta_b(1S) mass of 9394.2 {+4.8} {-4.9} (stat) +/- 2.0 (syst) MeV/c^2. The branching fraction for the decay Upsilon(2S) --> gamma eta_b(1S) is determined to be [3.9 +/-1.1 (stat) {+1.1} {-0.9} (syst)] x 10^(-4). We fin…
We present results on the production of high transverse momentum pizero and eta mesons in pi-p and pi-Be interactions at 515 GeV/c. The data span the kinematic ranges 1 < p_T < 11 GeV/c in transverse momentum and -0.75 < y < 0.75 in rapidity. The inclusive pizero cross sections are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations and to expectations based on a phenomenological parton-k_T model.
We present a preliminary measurement of CP-violating parameters S and C from fits of the time-dependence of B0 meson decays to eta' K0. The data were recorded with the BaBar detector at PEP-II and correspond to 227 * 10^6 B-Bbar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation through the Upsilon(4S) resonance. From a maximum likelihood fit we measure the CP-violation parameters S = 0.27 +/- 0.14 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) and C = -0.21 +/- 0.10 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst).
We present a preliminary measurement of CP-violating parameters S and C from fits of the time-dependence of B0 meson decays to eta'K0L. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at PEP-II and correspond to 232 10^6 BBbar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation through the Y(4S) resonance. By fitting the time-dependent CP asymmetry of the reconstructed B0 --> eta'K0L events, we find S = 0.60 +- 0.31 +- 0.04 and C = 0.10 +- 0.21 +- 0.03, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic. We also perform a combined fit using both eta'K0S and eta'K0L data, and find S = 0.36…
In a sample of 19 million produced B mesons we have observed decays B -> eta K*, and improved our previous measurements of B -> eta' K. The branching fractions we measure for these decay modes are B(B+ -> eta K*+) = (27.3 +9.6 -8.2 (stat) +- 5.0 (sys)) * 10^(-6), B(B0 -> eta K*0) = (13.8 +5.5 -4.4 +- 1.7) * 10^(-6), B(B+ -> eta' K+) = (80 +10 -9 +- 8) * 10^(-6), and B(B0 -> eta' K0) = (88 +18 -16 +- 9) * 10^(-6). We have searched with comparable sensitivity for related nonstrange decays, and report upper limits for these rates. All quoted results are preliminary.
We present several recent results from the BaBar collaboration in the areas of initial state radiation physics and transition form factors. An updated study of the processes e+e- -> K+K-pi+pi- and e+e- -> K+K-pi0pi0 provides an improved understanding of the Y(2175) meson. A very precise study of the process e+e- -> pi+pi- improves the precision on the calculated anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and provides by far the best information on excited rho states. Our previous measurements of the timelike transition form factors (TFF) of the eta and eta' mesons at Q^2=112 GeV^2, combined with ne…
We present measurements of the branching fractions and charge asymmetries (where appropriate) of two-body B decays to eta(')K*, eta(')rho, eta(')pi0, omegapi0, and phipi0. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at PEP-II and correspond to 89x10^6 BB pairs produced in e+e- annihilation through the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We find significant signals for two decay modes and measure the branching fractions BR(B+->etaK*+)=(25.6+/-4.0+/-2.4)x10^{-6} and BR(B0->etaK*0)=(18.6+/-2.3+/-1.2)x10^{-6}, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. We also find evidence with signifi…
Measurements of the analysing power for the p(pol)p --> ppeta reaction have been performed in the close-to-threshold energy region at beam momenta of p_{beam}=2.010 and 2.085 GeV/c, corresponding to excess energies of Q=10 and 36 MeV, respectively. The determined analysing power is essentially consistent with zero implying that the eta meson is produced predominantly in the s-wave at both excess energies. The angular dependence of the analysing power, combined with the hitherto determined isospin dependence of the total cross section for the eta meson production in nucleon-nucleon collisions, …
Using a sample of 88.8 10**6 BBbar events collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we measure the branching fractions of seven color-suppressed B-meson decays: BF(B0bar to D0 pi0)=(2.9 +/- 0.2(stat.)+/- 0.3(syst.))*10**-4, BF(B0bar to D*0 pi0)=(2.9 +/- 0.4(stat.)+/- 0.5(syst.))*10**-4, BF(B0bar to D0 eta)=(2.5 +/- 0.2(stat.)+/- 0.3(syst.))*10**-4, BF(B0bar to D*0 eta)=(2.6 +/- 0.4(stat.)+/- 0.4(syst.))*10**-4, BF(B0bar to D0 omega)=(3.0 +/- 0.3(stat.)+/- 0.4(syst.))*10**-4, BF(B0bar to D*0 omega)=(4.2 +/- 0.7(stat.)+/- 0.9(syst.))…
A brief experimental overview on the close-to-threshold eta meson production in proton-proton interactions is presented and the available observables in measurements with unpolarized and polarized beam and target are discussed.
We studied the decay psi(2S) to gamma eta_c(2S) with 25.9 million psi(2S) events collected with the CLEO-c detector. No psi(2S) to gamma eta_c(2S) decays were observed in any of the eleven exclusive eta_c(2S) decay modes studied. The product branching fraction upper limits were determined for all modes. The 90% confidence level upper limit of branching fraction of psi(2S) to gamma eta_c (2S) was obtained.
We present measurements of the branching fractions of the decays B+ -> eta' K+ and B0 -> eta' K0. For B0 -> eta' K0s we also measure the time dependent CP-violation parameters S and C, and for B+ ->eta' K+ the time-integrated charge asymmetry Ach. The data sample corresponds to 88.9 million BBbar pairs produced by e+e- annihilation at the Upsillon(4S). The results are B(B+->eta'K+) = (76.9 +/- 3.5 +/- 4.4)*10^-6, B(B0->eta'K0) = (60.6 +/- 5.6 +/- 4.6)*10^-6, S = 0.02+/-0.34 +/- 0.03, C = 0.10+/-0.22 +/- 0.04, and Ach = 0.037 +/- 0.045+/- 0.011.
Total cross sections for the quasi-free pn --> pn eta reaction in the range from the kinematical threshold up to 20 MeV excess energy have been determined. At threshold they exceed corresponding cross sections for the pp --> pp eta reaction by a factor of about three in contrast to the factor of six established for higher excess energies. To large extent, the observed decrease of the ratio sigma(pn --> pn eta)/sigma(pp --> pp eta) towards threshold may be assigned to the different energy dependence of the proton-proton and proton-neutron final state interactions. The experiment has been conduc…
The decay $η'\toηπ^{0}π^{0}$ is studied in the framework of isobar model. It is shown, that good agreement with the experiment is achieved if $a_0$- and $σ$-meson contributions are taken into account. The contribution of $a_0$-meson is dominant, but $σ$-meson is necessary to reproduce the form of experimental Dalitz plot. Instead of usual Breit-Wigner form of $σ$-meson propagator we use parametrization of $ππ$-amplitude, that satisfies analiticity, crossing, unitarity and chirality constraints. This amplitude has a pole in complex plane, that corresponds to $σ$-meson and describe experimental …
We have developed a phenomenological approach which describes very well the pi0, eta and eta-prime meson production in the two-photon interactions. The simultaneous description of the pi0, eta and eta-prime meson two-photon form factors is consistent with data in the space-like region. The obtained form factors are implemented in the event generator EKHARA and the simulated cross sections are presented. Uncertainties in the measured form factors coming from the model dependence in Monte Carlo simulations are studied. The model predictions for the form factor slopes at the origin are given and …
We review the present understanding of etaprime and eta meson physics and these mesons as a probe of gluon dynamics in low-energy QCD. Recent highlights include the production mechanism of eta and etaprime mesons in proton-nucleon collisions from threshold to high-energy, the etaprime effective mass shift in the nuclear medium, searches for possible eta and etaprime bound states in nuclei as well as precision measurements of eta decays as a probe of light-quark masses. We discuss recent experimental data, theoretical interpretation of the different measurements and the open questions and chall…
Patterns of chiral symmetry violation and tests of the conservation of the fundamental C, P and CP symmetries are key physics issues in studies of the pi0, eta and eta' meson decays. These tests include searches for rare or forbidden decays and searches for asymmetries among the decay products in the not-so-rare decays. Some examples for the rare decays are eta-->2pi, eta-->4pi0 (CP tests), decays into an odd number of photons (e.g., eta-->3g) and the decay eta-->pi0e+e- (C tests). The experimental studies of the pi0, eta and eta' meson decays are carried out at four European accelerator resea…
The composition of the eta and eta' mesons has long been a source of discussion and is of current interest with new experimental results appearing. We investigate what can be learnt from a number of different processes: V to P gamma and P to V gamma (V and P are light vector and pseudoscalar mesons respectively), P to gamma gamma, J/psi,psi' to P gamma, J/psi,psi' to P V, and chi_{c0,2} to PP. These constrain the eta-eta' mixing angle to a consistent value, phi approx 42 degrees; we find that the c cbar components are lesssim 5% in amplitude. We also find that, while the data hint at a small g…
Invariant cross sections for neutral pions and eta mesons in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV were measured by the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations describe the pi0 and eta spectra at 0.9 TeV, but overestimate the measured cross sections at 2.76 TeV and 7 TeV. The measured eta/pi0 ratio is consistent with mT scaling at 2.76 TeV. At 7 TeV indications for a violation of mT scaling were found.
In this article, we propose a novel approach to measure the branching ratios of the leptonic eta(')-> mu+mu- decays by using charmed meson decays, namely, D+(s)->pi+ eta(')(->mu+mu-) and D0->K-pi+eta(')(->mu+mu-). We advocate that the data available at LHCb can already yield a new measurement of Br(eta->mu+mu-) with accuracy competitive with the current world average. We also estimate that using the data collected by LHCb between 2015 and 2018 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0/fb, the relative uncertainties to thi…
A phenomenological analysis of radiative $V\to Pγ$ and $P\to Vγ$ decays is performed with the purpose of determining the gluonic content of the $η$ and $η^\prime$ wave functions. Our results show that within our model there is no evidence for a gluonium contribution in the $η$, $Z_η^2=0.00\pm 0.12$, or the $η^\prime$, $Z_{η^\prime}^2=0.04\pm 0.09$. In terms of a mixing angle description this corresponds to $ϕ_P=(41.4\pm 1.3)^\circ$ and $|ϕ_{η^\prime G}|=(12\pm 13)^\circ$. In addition, the $η$-$η^\prime$ mixing angle is found to be $ϕ_P=(41.5\pm 1.2)^\circ$ if we don't allow for a gluonium comp…
The selection of $η$ mesons with a high efficiency and a high purity can be important in the formation of statistically significant invariant mass spectra in the reconstruction of short-lived particles such as $η' \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} η$. In this study, a cut-based standard method and a Ranking method to reduce combinatorial background in the reconstruction of $η\rightarrow γγ$ decays in high multiplicity hadronic events are presented. By using recorded ALEPH data and fully simulated events, the performances of the methods are compared. Results show that the Ranking method yields significan…
Although eta-eta' mixing is qualitatively well understood as a consequence of the U(1)_A anomaly in QCD together with a broken SU(3) flavor symmetry, until recently the values of decay and mixing parameters of the eta and eta' were only approximately known, e.g. values for the octet-singlet mixing angle between -20 degrees and -10 degrees could be found in the literature. New experimental data, especially for the reactions gamma gamma* -> eta, eta' and B -> eta' K, together with new theoretical results from higher order corrections in chiral perturbation theory stimulated a phenomenological re…
