The beam energy calibration system for the BEPC-II collider

This document contains a proposal of the BEPC-II collider beam energy calibration system (IHEP, Beijing). The system is based on Compton backscattering of carbon dioxide laser radiation, producing a beam of high energy photons. Their energy spectrum is then accurately measured by HPGe detector. The high-energy spectrum edge will allow to determine the average electron or positron beam energy with relative accuracy about 3x10^-5.

Beam Background Simulation and Experiment at BEPCII

A high-level beam background is a crucial challenge to future upgrades to the BEPCII collider. We report on the first separate measurement of the main beam background components at BEPCII. The separation measurement enables the beam background extrapolation towards the beam parameters assumed for the upgraded BEPCII. The measured rates of each background component are also compared with a brand-new simulation based on SAD and Geant4. The discrepancy between experiment and simulation remains 1$\sim$2 magnitudes after calibration with beam lifetime, which should be further investigated.

The beam energy measurement system for the Beijing electron-positron collider

The beam energy measurement system (BEMS) for the upgraded Beijing electron-positron collider BEPC-II is described. The system is based on measuring the energies of Compton back-scattered photons. The relative systematic uncertainty of the electron and positron beam energy determination is estimated as 2 \cdot 10^{-5}. The relative uncertainty of the beam's energy spread is about 6 %.

Feasibility study of online tuning of the luminosity in a circular collider with the robust conjugate direction search method

The robust conjugate direction search (RCDS) method has high tolerance to noise in beam experiments. It has been demonstrated that this method can be used to optimize the machine performance of a light source online. In our study, taking BEPCII as an example, the feasibility of online tuning of the luminosity in a circular collider is explored, through numerical simulation and preliminary online experiments. It is shown that the luminosity that is artificially decreased by a deviation of beam orbital offset from optimal trajectory can be recovered with this method.

Energy calibration at high-energy photon colliders

Calibration of the absolute energy scale at high-energy photon (gamma-gamma, gamma-electron) colliders is discussed. The luminosity spectrum at photon colliders is broad and has a rather sharp high-energy edge, which can be used, for example, to measure the mass of the Higgs boson in the process gamma-gamma to H or masses of charged scalars by observing the cross-section threshold. Longitudinal jitter analysis of linear accelerator electron gun

We present measurement and analyses of longitudinal timing jitter of Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII) linear accelerator electron gun. We simulated longitudinal jitter effect of the gun using PARMELA about beam performance including beam profile, average energy, energy spread, longitudinal phase of reference particle and XY emittance. Transverse Polarization for Energy Calibration at the Z peak

In this paper we deal with aspects of transverse polarization for the purpose of energy calibration of proposed circular colliders like the FCC-ee and the CEPC. The main issues of such a measurement will be discussed. The possibility of using this method to accurately determine the energy at the WW threshold as well as the Z peak will be addressed. The use of wigglers for reducing long polarization times will be discussed and a possible strategy will be presented for minimising the energy uncertainty error in these large machines.

Van der Meer Scan Luminosity Measurement and Beam-Beam Correction

The main method for calibrating the luminosity at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is van der Meer scan where the beams are swept transversely across each other. The FCC-ee design study: luminosity and beam polarization

The FCC-ee accelerator is considered within the FCC design study as a possible first step towards the ultimate goal of a 100 TeV hadron collider.
