Discrete Approximation of Quantum Stochastic Models

We develop a general technique for proving convergence of repeated quantum interactions to the solution of a quantum stochastic differential equation. The wide applicability of the method is illustrated in a variety of examples. Our main theorem, which is based on the Trotter-Kato theorem, is not restricted to a specific noise model and does not require boundedness of the limit coefficients.

Some results on discrete eigenvalues for the Stochastic Nonlinear Schroedinger Equation in fiber optics

We study a stochastic Nonlinear Schroedinger Equation (NLSE), with additive white Gaussian noise, by means of the Nonlinear Fourier Transform (NFT). In particular, we focus on the propagation of discrete eigenvalues along a focusing fiber. A stochastic thermalization of the Discrete Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

We introduce a mass conserving stochastic perturbation of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation that models the action of a heat bath at a given temperature. We prove that the corresponding canonical Gibbs distribution is the unique invariant measure. In the one-dimensional cubic focusing case on the torus, we prove that in the limit for large time, continuous approximation, and low temperature, the solution converges to the steady wave of the continuous equation that minimizes the energy for a given mass.

Stochastic dissipative quantum spin chains (I) : Quantum fluctuating discrete hydrodynamics

Motivated by the search for a quantum analogue of the macroscopic fluctuation theory, we study quantum spin chains dissipatively coupled to quantum noise. The dynamical processes are encoded in quantum stochastic differential equations. They induce dissipative friction on the spin chain currents. Discrete probabilistic and algebraic dynamics: a stochastic commutative Gelfand-Naimark Theorem

We introduce a category of stochastic maps (certain Markov kernels) on compact Hausdorff spaces, construct a stochastic analogue of the Gelfand spectrum functor, and prove a stochastic version of the commutative Gelfand-Naimark Theorem. This relates concepts from algebra and operator theory to concepts from topology and probability theory. For completeness, we review stochastic matrices, their relationship to positive maps on commutative $C^*$-algebras, and the Gelfand-Naimark Theorem. No knowledge of probability theory nor $C^*$-algebras is assumed and several examples are drawn from physics.

Stochastic analysis & discrete quantum systems

We explore the connections between the theories of stochastic analysis and discrete quantum mechanical systems. Naturally these connections include the Feynman-Kac formula, and the Cameron-Martin-Girsanov theorem.
