We report on a search for the process $p\bar{p}\to γ+W/Z$ with $W/Z\to q\bar{q}$ in events containing two jets and a photon at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV, using 184 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the CDF II detector. A neural network event selection has been developed to optimize the rejection of the large QCD production background; it is shown that this method gives a significant improvement in both signal-to-noise ratio and signal sensitivity, as compared with an event selection based on conventional cuts. An upper limit is presented for the $γ+W/Z$ production cross section with the $W$ and $Z$ decaying hadronically.
We report a measurement of the ttbar production cross section using the CDF-II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The analysis is performed using 311 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The data consist of events selected with six or more hadronic jets with additional kinematic requirements. At least one of these jets must be identified as a b-quark jet by the reconstruction of a secondary vertex. The cross section is measured to be sigma(tbart)=7.5+-2.1(stat.)+3.3-2.2(syst.)+0.5-0.4(lumi.) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction.
Cross sections for e^+e^- -> ppbar have been measured at 10 center-of-mass energies from 2.0 to 3.07 GeV by the BESII experiment at the BEPC, and proton electromagnetic form factors in the time-like region have been determined.
The exclusive production of proton-antiproton pairs in the collisions of two quasi-real photons had been studied using data taken at sqrt(s)_ee=183 GeV and 189 GeV with the OPAL detector at LEP. Results are presented for Ppbar invariant masses, W, in the range 2.15 W< <3.95 GeV. The cross-section measurements are compared with previous data and with recent analytic calculations based on the quark-diquark model.
A measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in proton anti-proton collisions at an interaction energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV is presented. This analysis uses 405 pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Fully hadronic ttbar decays with final states of six or more jets are separated from the multijet background using secondary vertex tagging and a neural network. The ttbar cross section is measured as sigma(ttbar)=4.5 -1.9 +2.0 (stat) -1.1 +1.4 (syst) +/- 0.3 (lumi) pb for a top quark mass of m(t) = 175 GeV/c^2.
We present a measurement of the top quark mass in the all-hadronic channel (\tt $\to$ \bb$q_{1}\bar{q_{2}}q_{3}\bar{q_{4}}$) using 943 pb$^{-1}$ of \ppbar collisions at $\sqrt {s} = 1.96$ TeV collected at the CDF II detector at Fermilab (CDF). We apply the standard model production and decay matrix-element (ME) to $\ttbar$ candidate events. We calculate per-event probability densities according to the ME calculation and construct template models of signal and background. The scale of the jet energy is calibrated using additional templates formed with the invariant mass of pairs of jets. These …
We present results on dijet production via hard color-singlet exchange in proton-antiproton collisions at root-s = 630 GeV and 1800 GeV using the DZero detector. The fraction of dijet events produced via color-singlet exchange is measured as a function of jet transverse energy, separation in pseudorapidity between the two highest transverse energy jets, and proton-antiproton center-of-mass energy. The results are consistent with a color-singlet fraction that increases with an increasing fraction of quark-initiated processes and inconsistent with two-gluon models for the hard color-singlet.
Inclusive dijet production at large pseudorapidity intervals (delta_eta) between the two jets has been suggested as a regime for observing BFKL dynamics. We have measured the dijet cross section for large delta_eta in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1800 and 630 GeV using the DO detector. The partonic cross section increases strongly with the size of delta_eta. The observed growth is even stronger than expected on the basis of BFKL resummation in the leading logarithmic approximation. The growth of the partonic cross section can be accommodated with an effective BFKL intercept of a_{BFKL}(20GeV)=1…
We report on measurements of inclusive cross sections times branching fractions into electrons for W and Z bosons produced in ppbar collisions at sqrts=1.8 TeV.From an integrated luminosity of 84.5 inverse pb recorded in 1994--1995 using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we determine sigma(ppbar->W+X)B(W->e nu) = 2310 +- 10(stat) +- 50(syst) +- 100(lum) pb and sigma(ppbar->Z+X)B(Z->e e) = 221 +- 3(stat) +- 4(syst) +- 10(lum) pb. From these, we derive their Ratio R = 10.43 +- 0.15(stat) +- 0.20(syst) +- 0.10(NLO), B(W->e nu) = 0.1066 +- 0.0015(stat) +- 0.0021(syst) +- 0.0011(theory)+- 0…
We present the results of a search for doubly-charged Higgs bosons (H+/-+/-) decaying to dileptons using ~240/pb of ppbar collision data collected by the CDF II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. In our search region, given by same-sign dilepton mass m_ll' > 80 GeV/c^2 (100 GeV/c^2 for dielectron channel), we observe no evidence for doubly-charged Higgs production. We set limits on sigma (ppbar --> H++H-- --> l+l+l-l-) as a function of the mass of the doubly-charged Higgs boson and the chirality of its couplings. Assuming exclusive same-sign dilepton decays, we derive lower mass limits on H+…
Observation is made of rapidity-alignment of K+K- and ppbar pairs which results from their asymmetric orientation in rapidity, with respect to the direction from primary quark to antiquark. The K+K- and ppbar data are consistent with predictions from the fragmentation string model. However, the ppbar data strongly disagree with the conventional implementation of the cluster model. The non-perturbative process of `gluon splitting to diquarks' has to be incorporated into the cluster model for it to agree with the data. Local conservation of p_T between particles nearby in rapidity (i.e., p_T com…
A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.1 fb-1 collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider was analyzed to search for squarks and gluinos produced in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. No evidence for the production of such particles was observed in topologies involving jets and missing transverse energy, and 95% C.L. lower limits of 379 GeV and 308 GeV were set on the squark and gluino masses, respectively, within the framework of minimal supergravity with tan(beta)=3, A0=0, and mu<0. The corresponding previous limits are improved …
We present a measurement of the muon charge asymmetry from the decay of the $W$ boson via W to mu nu using 7.3 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. The muon charge asymmetry is presented in two kinematic regions in muon transverse momentum and event missing transverse energy: (p^μ_{T} > 25 GeV, \met > 25 GeV) and (p^μ_{T} > 35 GeV, \met > 35 GeV). The measured asymmetries are compared with theory predictions made using three parton distribution function sets. The predictions do not describe the data well for p^…
We report the results of a search for pair production of scalar bottom quarks (sbottom) and scalar third-generation leptoquarks in 5.2 fb-1 of ppbar collisions at the D0 experiment of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Scalar bottom quarks are assumed to decay to a neutralino and a $b$ quark, and we set 95% C.L. lower limits on their production in the (m_sbottom, m_neutralino) mass plane such as m_sbottom>247 GeV for m_neutralino=0 and m_neutralino>110 GeV for 160<m_sbottom<200 GeV. The leptoquarks are assumed to decay to a tau neutrino and a $b$ quark, and we set a 95% C.L. lower limit of 247 Ge…
We report the results of a search for a narrow resonance in electron-positron events in the invariant mass range of 150-950 GeV/c^2 using 1.3 fb^-1 of ppbar collision data at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. No significant evidence of such a resonance is observed and we interpret the results to exclude the standard model-like Z' with a mass below 923 GeV/c^2 and the Randall-Sundrum graviton with a mass below 807 GeV/c^2 for k/M_pl=0.1, both at the 95% confidence level. Combining with di-photon data excludes the Randall-Sundrum graviton for masses below 889 GeV/c…
A study of the centrally produced ppbar, ppbarpi, ppbarpipi and lambda lambda channels has been performed in pp collisions using an incident beam momentum of 450 GeV/c. No significant new structures are observed in the mass spectra, however, important new information on the production dynamics is obtained. A systematic study of the production properties of these systems has been performed and it is found that these systems are not produced dominantly by double Pomeron exchange.
We report on a search for the pair production of second generation scalar leptoquarks (LQ_2) in ppbar collisions at the center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 294 +- 19 pb^-1 recorded with the D0 detector. No evidence for a leptoquark signal in the LQ_2 LQ_2 -> muq muq channel has been observed, and upper bounds on the product of cross section times branching fraction were set. This yields lower mass limits of m(LQ_2) > 247 GeV for beta = Br(LQ_2->muq) = 1 and m(LQ_2) > 182 GeV for beta = 1/2. Combining these limits with previous D0 re…
We present the first observation in hadronic collisions of the electroweak production of vector boson pairs (VV, V=W,Z) where one boson decays to a dijet final state . The data correspond to 3.5 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected by the CDFII detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 1516+/-239(stat)+/-144(syst) diboson candidate events and measure a cross section sigma(ppbar->VV+X) of 18.0+/-2.8(stat)+/-2.4(syst)+/-1.1(lumi) pb, in agreement with the expectations of the standard model.
Using 5.4 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we search for decays of the lightest Kaluza-Klein mode of the graviton in the Randall-Sundrum model to ee and gammagamma. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on the mass of the lightest graviton between 560 GeV and 1050 GeV for values of the coupling k/Mbar_pl between 0.01 and 0.1.
We present a measurement of Z boson pair production in ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV with 9.6 fb-1 to 9.8fb-1 of D0 data. We examine the final states with four electrons, two electrons plus two muons, and four muons. Based on selected data, the measured cross section in the mass region M(Z/gamma*) > 30 GeV is sigma(ppbar to Z/gamma* Z/gamma*)= 1.26 ^{+0.44}_{-0.36} (stat) ^{+0.17}_{-0.15} (syst) +/- 0.08 (lumi) pb; after correcting for the expected ratio of sigma(ppbar to Z/gamma* Z/gamma*) to sigma(ppbar to ZZ), we derive a cross section for ppbar to ZZ production of 1.05 ^{+0.37}_{-0.30} (sta…
We measure the ttbar production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in the lepton+jets channel. Two complementary methods discriminate between signal and background, b-tagging and a kinematic likelihood discriminant. Based on 0.9 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we measure sigma_ttbar=7.62+/-0.85 pb, assuming the current world average m_t=172.6 GeV. We compare our cross section measurement with theory predictions to determine a value for the top quark mass of 170+/-7 GeV.
We present a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section in ppbar interactions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV using 385 pb^{-1} of data collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The results are obtained using an improved cone-based jet algorithm (Midpoint). The data cover the jet transverse momentum range from 61 to 620 GeV/c, extending the reach by almost 150 GeV/c compared with previous measurements at the Tevatron. The results are in good agreement with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions using the CTEQ6.1M parton distribution functions.
We present a measurement of the top quark mass and of the top-antitop pair production cross section using p-pbar data collected with the CDFII detector at the Tevatron Collider at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb-1. We select events with six or more jets satisfying a number of kinematical requirements imposed by means of a neural network algorithm. At least one of these jets must originate from a b quark, as identified by the reconstruction of a secondary vertex inside the jet. The mass measurement is based on a likelihood fit in…
We describe a general search for resonances decaying to a neutral e-mu final state in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a data sample representing 344 pb^-1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF-II experiment, we compare Standard Model predictions with the number of observed events for invariant masses between 50 and 800 GeV/c^2. Finding no significant excess (5 events observed vs. 7.7 +/- 0.8 expected for e-mu invariant masses > 100 GeV/c^2), we set limits on sneutrino and Z' masses as functions of lepton family number violating couplings.
We present a measurement of the Zγproduction cross section and limits on anomalous ZZγand Zγγcouplings for form-factor scales of Lambda = 750 and 1000 GeV. The measurement is based on 138 (152) candidate events in the eeγ(μμγ) final state using 320 (290) pb^{-1} of ppbar collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. The 95% C.L. limits on real and imaginary parts of individual anomalous couplings are |h_{10,30}^{Z}|<0.23, |h_{20,40}^{Z}|<0.020, |h_{10,30}^γ|<0.23, and |h_{20,40}^γ|<0.019 for Lambda = 1000 GeV.
This Letter describes a direct measurement of the $W$ boson total decay width, $\gw$, using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The measurement uses an integrated luminosity of $90\invpb$, collected during the 1994--1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron $p\pbar$ collider. The width is determined by normalizing predicted signal and background distributions to 49844 $\wenu$ candidates and 21806 $\wmunu$ candidates in the transverse-mass region $M_T<200\gev$ and then fitting the predicted shape to the 438 electron events and 196 muon events in the high-$M_T$ region, $100<M_T<200\gev$. The result is $Γ…
We present the first direct experimental bound on the total decay width of the top quark using 955pb^-1 of the Tevatron's ppbar collisions recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We identify 253 top-antitop pair candidate events. The distribution of reconstructed top quark mass from these events is fitted to templates representing different values of the top quark width. Using a confidence interval based on likelihood ratio ordering, we extract an upper limit at 95% C.L. of Gamma_t <13.1 GeV for an assumed top quark mass of 175 GeV/c^2.
First measurements of the differential cross sections for the inclusive production of a photon in association with a heavy quark (c, b) jet are presented, covering photon transverse momenta 30-150 GeV, photon rapidities | y_gamma| < 1.0, jet rapidities |y_jet| < 0.8, and jet transverse momenta pT_jet > 15 GeV. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 1 fb^-1 in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are compared with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions.
We describe a search for the standard model Higgs boson with a mass of 105 GeV/c^2 to 145 GeV/c^2 in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 450 pb^{-1} collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The Higgs boson is required to be produced in association with a Z boson, and the Z boson is required to decay to either electrons or muons with the Higgs boson decaying to a bbbar pair. The data are well described by the expected background, leading to 95% confidence level cross section upper limits sigma(\ppb…
We report two measurements of the top quark mass M_top using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in a 318 pb^-1 data sample observed in the lepton + jets final state. One method uses an event-based likelihood technique resulting in M_top = 173.2 +2.6/-2.4 (stat.) +/- 3.2 (syst.) GeV/c^2 or 173.2 +4.1/-4.0 GeV/c^2. The second method reconstructs a top quark mass in each event using the measured invariant mass of the hadronically decaying W boson to constrain the jet energy scale to obtain a value for M_top of 173.5 +3.7/-3.6 (stat.) +/- 1.3 (syst.) GeV/c^2 or 173.5 +3.9/-3.8 GeV/c^2. W…
We present results of a search for WH -> lepton neutrino b bbar production in ppbar collisions based on the analysis of 1.05 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, using a neural network for separating the signal from backgrounds. No signal-like excess is observed, and we set 95 % C.L. upper limits on the WH production cross section multiplied by the branching ratio for H->bb for Higgs boson masses between 100 and 150 GeV. For a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV, we obtain an observed (expected) limit of 1.5 (1.4) pb, a factor of 11.4 (10.7) times larger than standard …
A direct measurement of the total decay width of the W boson G_W is presented using 350 pb-1 of data from ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The width is determined by normalizing predicted signal and background distributions to 230185 W candidates decaying to enu and munu in the transverse-mass region 50 < M_T < 90 GeV and then fitting the predicted shape to 6055 events in the high-M_T region, 90 < M_T < 200 GeV. The result is G_W = 2032 +/- 45 (stat.) +/- 57 (syst.) MeV, consistent with the standard model expectation.
A measurement of the cross section for the inclusive production of isolated photons by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider is presented. The measurement covers the pseudorapidity region |eta^gamma|<1.0 and the transverse energy range E_T^gamma>30 GeV and is based on 2.5/fb of integrated luminosity. The sample is almost a factor of seven larger than those used for recent published results and extends the E_T^gamma coverage by 100 GeV. The result agrees with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations within uncertainties over the range 50<E_Tgamma<400 GeV, though the en…
We search for resonant WW or WZ production using up to 5.4 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The data are consistent with the standard model background expectation, and we set limits on a resonance mass using the sequential standard model (SSM) W' boson and the Randall-Sundrum model graviton G as benchmarks. We exclude an SSM W' boson in the mass range 180 - 690 GeV and a Randall-Sundrum graviton in the range 300 - 754 GeV at 95% CL.
We have measured the polarization of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons produced in p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using data collected at CDF during 1992-95. The polarization of promptly produced J/Psi [Psi(2S)] mesons is isolated from those produced in B-hadron decay, and measured over the kinematic range 4[5.5] < P_T < 20 GeV/c and |y| < 0.6. For P_T \gessim 12 GeV/c we do not observe significant polarization in the prompt component.
We present a search for pair production of doubly-charged Higgs bosons in the processes qqbar to H++H-- decaying through H++/-- to tau tau, muon tau, muon muon. The search is performed in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 7.0 fb-1 collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are used to set 95% C.L. limits on the pair production cross section of doubly-charged Higgs bosons and on their mass for different H++/-- branching fractions. Models predicting different H++/-- decays are investigated. Assumin…
We report on a search for pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks (LQ) in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 252pb-1 collected at the Fermilab Tevatron collider by the D0 detector. We observe no evidence for LQ production in the topologies arising from LQLQbar->eqeq and LQLQbar->eqnuq, and derive 95% C.L. lower limits on the LQ mass as a function of beta, where beta is the branching fraction for LQ->eq. The limits are 241 and 218 GeV/c2 for beta=1 and 0.5, respectively. These results are combined with those obtained by D0 at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV, w…
We present new limits on resonant tb production in proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV, using 1.9 fb^-1 of data recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We reconstruct a candidate mass in events with a lepton, neutrino candidate, and two or three jets, and search for anomalous tb production as modeled by W'->tb. We set a new limit on a right-handed W' with standard model-like coupling, excluding any mass below 800 GeV at 95% C.L. The cross-section for any narrow, resonant tb production between 750 and 950 GeV is found to be less than 0.28 pb at 95% C.L. We also present …
We present the first measurements of the ratios of cross sections, σ(ppbar -> Z+c jet)/σ(ppbar -> Z+jet) and σ(ppbar -> Z+c jet)/σ(ppbar -> Z+b jet) for the associated production of a Z boson with at least one charm or bottom quark jet. Jets have transverse momentum p_{T}>20 GeV and pseudorapidity |η|<2.5. These cross section ratios are measured differentially as a function of jet and $Z$ boson transverse momenta, based on 9.7 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The measurements show significant deviations from per…
We present a search for anomalous triple gauge couplings (ATGC) in WW and WZ boson production. The boson pairs are produced in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, and the data sample corresponds to 350 pb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. In this search one W decays to leptons, and the other boson (W or Z) decays hadronically. Combining with a previously published CDF measurement of Wgamma boson production yields ATGC limits of -0.18 < lambda < 0.17 and -0.46 < Delta kappa < 0.39 at the 95% confidence level, using a cut-off scale Lambda=1…
We present a search for exclusive Z boson production in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using the CDF II detector at Fermilab. We observe no exclusive Z->ll candidates and place the first upper limit on the exclusive Z cross section in hadron collisions, sigma(exclu) < 0.96 pb at 95% confidence level. In addition, we observe eight candidate exclusive dilepton events from the quantum electrodynamic process ppbar->gammagamma->p+ll+pbar, and measure the cross section for M(ll) > 40 GeV/c2 and |eta(l)| < 4 to be sigma = 0.24^{+0.13}_{-0.10} pb, which is the first measurement fo…
We present a search for a narrow scalar or vector resonance decaying into Zgamma with a subsequent Z decay into a pair of electrons or muons. The data for this search were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. Using 1.1 (1.0) fb-1 of data, we observe 49 (50) candidate events in the electron (muon) channel, in good agreement with the standard model prediction. From the combination of both channels, we derive 95% C.L. upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction (sigma x B) into Zgamma. These limits ran…
We present a search for the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. This search was conducted within the framework of the R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, assuming the stop decays dominantly to a lepton, a sneutrino, and a bottom quark. We searched for events with two oppositely-charged leptons, at least one jet, and missing transverse energy in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1fb^-1 collected by the CDF experiment. No significant evidence …
We present a search for pair production of a fourth generation t' quark and its antiparticle, followed by their decays to a W boson and a jet, based on an integrated luminosity of 5.3/fb of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits on the t't'bar production cross section that exclude at the 95% C.L. a t' quark that decays exclusively to W+jet with a mass below 285 GeV. We observe a small excess in the muon+jets channel which reduces the mass range excluded compared to the expected limit of 320 GeV i…
We report on a search for charge-1/3 third-generation leptoquarks (LQ) produced in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab. Third generation leptoquarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay to a tau neutrino and a b quark with branching fraction B. We place upper limits on sigma(ppbar->LQLQbar)*B^2 as a function of the leptoquark mass M_{LQ}. Assuming B=1, we exclude at the 95% confidence level third-generation scalar leptoquarks with M_{LQ} < 229 GeV.
We present a search for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in 9.7 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. Selected events contain one reconstructed Z -> e+e- or Z -> mu+mu- candidate and at least two jets, including at least one jet likely to contain a b quark. To validate the search procedure, we also measure the cross section for ZZ production, and find that it is consistent with the SM expectation. We set upper limits at the 95% C.L. on the product of the ZH production cross sect…
We present a search for Higgs boson in final states with two oppositely charged leptons and large missing transverse energy as expected in H -> WW -> lvlv decays. The events are selected from the full Run II data sample of 9.7 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt s = 1.96 TeV. To validate our search methodology, we measure the non-resonant W W production cross section and find sigma_WW = 11.6 +/- 0.7 pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction. In the Higgs boson search, no significant excess above the background expectation …
We present a search for anomalous components of the quartic gauge boson coupling WWγγ in events with an electron, a positron and missing transverse energy. The analyzed data correspond to 9.7 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The presence of anomalous quartic gauge couplings would manifest itself as an excess of boosted WW events. No such excess is found in the data, and we set the most stringent limits to date on the anomalous coupling parameters a_0^W and a_C^W. When a form factor with Lambda_cutoff = 0.5 TeV is used, the o…
We present a measurement of the cross section for W-boson production in association with jets in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 320 pb^-1 collected with the CDF II detector. W bosons are identified in their electron decay channel and jets are reconstructed using a cone algorithm. For each W+>= n-jet sample (n= 1 - 4) we measure dsigma(ppbar =>W+>=n-jet)/dE_T^(nth-jet) x BR(W => e nu) with respect to the transverse energy E_T of the n^th-highest E_T jet above 20 GeV, and the total cross section sigma(ppbar =>W+…
We present a new measurement of the inclusive and differential production cross sections of $J/ψ$ mesons and $b$-hadrons in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1960$ GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 39.7 pb$^{-1}$ collected by the CDF Run II detector. We find the integrated cross section for inclusive $J/ψ$ production for all transverse momenta from 0 to 20 GeV/$c$ in the rapidity range $|y|<0.6$ to be $4.08 \pm 0.02 (stat)^{+0.36}_{-0.33} (syst) μ{\rm b}$. We separate the fraction of $J/ψ$ events from the decay of the long-lived $b$-hadrons using the lifetime dist…
We present a measurement of the shape of the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum (qT) distribution in ppbar -> Z/gamma* -> ee+X events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 0.98 fb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data are found to be consistent with the resummation prediction at low qT, but above the perturbative QCD calculation in the region of qT>30 GeV/c. Using events with qT<30 GeV/c, we extract the value of g2, one of the non-perturbative parameters for the resummation calculation. Data at large boson rapidity y are compared with the p…
We present a study of the dijet invariant mass spectrum in events with two jets produced in association with a W boson in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.3 fb^-1 collected with the D0 detector at sqrt{s} =1.96 TeV. We find no evidence for anomalous resonant dijet production and derive upper limits on the production cross section of an anomalous dijet resonance recently reported by the CDF Collaboration, investigating the range of dijet invariant mass from 110 to 170 GeV/c^2. The probability of the D0 data being consistent with the presence of a dijet resonance with 4 pb pro…
We present the results of a search for pair production of scalar top quarks in an R-parity violating supersymmetry scenario in 106 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In this mode each scalar top quark decays into a tau lepton and a b quark. We search for events with two tau's, one decaying leptonically (e or mu) and one decaying hadronically, and two jets. No candidate events pass our final selection criteria. We set a 95% confidence level lower limit on the scalar top quark mass at 122 GeV/c2 for Br (stop-> tau + b) = 1.
Results are presented on a measurement of the ttbar pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV from nine independent decay channels. The data were collected by the Dzero experiment during the 1992-1996 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A total of 80 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 38.8 +- 3.3 events. For a top quark mass of 172.1 GeV/c^2, the measured cross section is 5.69 +- 1.21 (stat) +- 1.04 (sys) pb.
We report on a search for inclusive production of squarks and gluinos in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, in events with large missing transverse energy and multiple jets of hadrons in the final state. The study uses a CDF Run II data sample corresponding to 2 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. The data are in good agreement with the standard model predictions, giving no evidence for any squark or gluino component. In an R-parity conserving minimal supergravity scenario with A_0 = 0, mu < 0 and tanbeta = 5, 95% C.L. upper limits on the production cross sections in the range between 0.1 pb and…
We present a search for associated Higgs boson production in the process pbar -> W/ZH -> l\pml'\pm + X in ee, eμ, and μμ final states. The search is based on data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV corresponding to 5.3 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. We require two isolated leptons (electrons or muons) with the same electric charge and additional kinematic requirements. No significant excess above background is observed, and we set 95% C.L. observed (expected) upper limits on ratio of the production cross section to the standard model expectat…
The central inclusive jet cross section has been measured using a successive-combination algorithm for reconstruction of jets. The measurement uses 87.3 pb^{-1} of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar Collider during 1994-1995. The cross section, reported as a function of transverse momentum (pT>60 GeV) in the central region of pseudorapidity (|η|<0.5), exhibits reasonable agreement with next-to-leading order QCD predictions, except at low pT where the agreement is marginal.
We present a search for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in 9.7 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. Selected events contain one reconstructed Z-> e+e- or Z-> mu+mu- candidate and at least two jets, including at least one jet identified as likely to contain a b quark. To validate the search procedure, we also measure the cross section for ZZ production in the same final state. It is found to be consistent with its SM prediction. We set upper limits on the ZH production cross se…
We have measured the differential cross section for the inclusive production of psi(2S) mesons decaying to mu^{+} mu^{-1} that were produced in prompt or B-decay processes from ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV. These measurements have been made using a data set from an integrated luminosity of 1.1 fb^{-1} collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. For events with transverse momentum p_{T} (psi(2S)) > 2 GeV/c and rapidity |y(psi(2S))| < 0.6 we measure the integrated inclusive cross section sigma(ppbar -> psi(2S)X) Br(psi(2S) -> mu^{+} mu^{-}) to be 3.29 +- 0.04(stat.) +- 0.32(syst.) nb.
With a sample of 232x10^6 Upsilon(4S)->BBbar events collected with the BaBar detector, we study the decays of B mesons to ppbarh final states, where h=pi+,Ks,K*0 or K*+. We report evidence for the B->ppbarK*0 decay, with a branching fraction (1.5+/-0.5(stat)+/-0.4(syst))x10^-6, and for the B+->eta_cK*+ decay, with the branching fraction of Br(B+->eta_cK*+)xBr(eta_c->ppbar)=(1.57^{+0.56}_{-0.45}(stat)^{+0.46}_{-0.36}(syst))x10^-6, and provide improved measurements of the branching fractions of the other modes of this type. We also report the measurements of the charge asymmetry consistent with …
The ttbar spin correlation at production is a fundamental prediction of QCD and a potentially incisive test of new physics coupled to top quarks. We measure the ttbar spin state in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using 1001 candidate events in the lepton plus jets decay channel reconstructed in the CDF II detector. In the helicity basis, for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV/c^2, we find a spin correlation coefficient kappa = 0.60 +/- 0.50 (stat) +/- 0.16 (syst), consistent with the QCD prediction, kappa ~= 0.40.
