A simplified theory of the diagonal Bianchi type I model coupled with a massless scalar field in loop quantum cosmology is constructed according to the $\barμ$ scheme. Kinematical and physical sectors of the theory are under good analytical control as well as the scalar constraint operator. Although it is possible to compute numerically the nonsingular evolution of the three gravitational degrees of freedom, the naive implementation of the $\barμ$ scheme to the diagonal Bianchi type I model is problematic. The lack of the full invariance of the theory with respect to the fiducial cell and fiducial metric scaling causes serious problems in the semiclassical limit of the theory. Because of this behavior it is very difficult to extract reasonable physics from the model. The weaknesses of the implementation of the $\barμ$ scheme to the Bianchi I model do not imply limitations of the $\barμ$ scheme in the isotropic case.
We take the general quantum constraints of N=1 supergravity in the special case of a Bianchi metric, with gravitino fields constant in the invariant basis. We construct the most general possible wave function which solves the Lorentz constraints and study the supersymmetry constraints in the Bianchi Class A Models. For the Bianchi-IX cases, both the Hartle-Hawking state and wormhole state are found to exist in the middle fermion levels.
Within the scope of anisotropic non-diagonal Bianchi type-II, VIII and IX spacetime it is shown that the off-diagonal components of the corresponding metric impose severe restrictions on the components of the energy momentum tensor in general. If the energy momentum tensor is considered to be diagonal one, the spacetime, expect a partial case of BII, becomes locally rotationally symmetric.
The Bianchi IX mixmaster model is quantized in its non-diagonal form, imposing spatial diffeomorphism, time reparametrization and Lorentz invariance as constraints on physical state vectors before gauge-fixing. The result turns out to be different from quantizing the diagonal model obtained by gauge-fixing already on the classical level. For the non-diagonal model a generalized 9-dimensional Fourier transformation over a suitably chosen manifold connects the representations in metric variables and in Ashtekar variables. A space of five states in the metric representation is generated from the …
In a recent paper arXiv:1208.4231 we have treated the future non-linear stability for reflection symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov system of Bianchi types II and VI$_0$. We have been able now to remove the reflection symmetry assumption, thus treating the non-diagonal case. Apart from the increasing complexity the methods have been essentially the same as in the diagonal case, showing that they are thus quite powerful. Here the challenge was to put the equations in a form that permits the use of the previous results. We are able to conclude that after a possible basis change the futur…
Within the framework of Bianchi type-II (BII) cosmological model the behavior of matter distribution has been considered. It is shown that the non-zero off-diagonal component of Einstein tensor implies some severe restriction on the choice of matter distribution. In particular for a locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-II (LRS BII) space-time it is proved that the matter distribution should be strictly isotropic if the corresponding matter field possesses only non-zero diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor.
We present diagonal Einstein metrics for Bianchi III and V, both for minkowskian and euclidean signatures and we show that the Einstein Bianchi III metrics have an integrable geodesic flow.
Quantum states of the diagonal Bianchi type IX model with negative cosmological constant $Λ$ are obtained by transforming the Chern-Simons solution in Ashtekar's variables to the metric representation. We apply our method developed earlier for $Λ>0$ and obtain five linearly independent solutions by using the complete set of topologically inequivalent integration contours in the required generalized Fourier-transformation. A caustic in minisuperspace separates two Euclidean regimes at small and large values of the scale parameter from a single classically interpretable Lorentzian regime in betw…
It is given a simple proof of the collapse conjecture for a diagonal Bianchi type-IX vacuum space-time. It is shown that the codimension of the infinity stable attractor, restricted to the anisotropy plane, is not zero, thus proving that "escape along a channel" is impossible.
We analyse in a systematic way the four dimensionnal Einstein-Weyl spaces equipped with a diagonal Kähler Bianchi IX metric. In particular, we show that the subclass of Einstein-Weyl structures with a constant conformal scalar curvature is the one with a conformally scalar flat - but not necessarily scalar flat - metric ; we exhibit its 3-parameter distance and Weyl one-form. This extends previous analysis of Pedersen, Swann and Madsen , limited to the scalar flat, antiself-dual case. We also check that, in agreement with a theorem of Derdzinski, the most general conformally Einstein metric in…
We present, for both minkowskian and euclidean signatures, short derivations of the diagonal Einstein metrics for Bianchi type II, III and V. For the first two cases we show the integrability of the geodesic flow while for the third case a somewhat unusual bifurcation phenomenon takes place: for minkowskian signature elliptic functions are essential in the metric while for euclidean signature only elementary functions appear.
Within the scope of Bianchi type-VI cosmological model we study the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. It is found that due to the spinor affine connections the energy-momentum tensor of the spinor field possesses non-diagonal components. The non-triviality of non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor imposes some severe restrictions either on the spinor field or on the metric functions or on both of them. But unlike in cases of Bianchi type-I or $VI_0$, in case of Bianchi type-VI model it does not lead to the elimination of spinor field nonlinearity or mass ter…
We present a dynamical analysis in terms of new expansion-normalized variables for homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi-I spacetimes in $f(R)$ gravity in the presence of anisotropic matter. With a suitable choice of the evolution parameter, the Einstein's equations are reduced to an autonomous 5-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations for the new variables. Further restrictions lead to considerable simplifications. For instance, we show that for a large class of functions $f(R)$, which includes several cases commonly considered in the literature, all the fixed points are polynomia…
Half a century ago, Belinsky and Khalatnikov proposed a generic solution of the Einstein equations near their cosmological singularity, based on a generalization of the homogeneous model of Bianchi type IX. Consideration of the evolution of the most general non-diagonal case of this model is greatly simplified if it is assumed that, when approaching the singularity t=0, it reduces to the so-called asymptotic dynamics, at which inequality (6) holds. It has been suggested that this inequality continues to be true from the moment of its first fulfilment up to the singularity of space-time. We ana…
We present the derivation, for these vacuum metrics, of the Painlevé VI equation first obtained by Christodoulakis and Terzis, from the field equations for both minkowskian and euclidean signatures. This allows a complete discussion and the precise connection with some old results due to Kinnersley. The hyperkähler metrics are shown to belong to the Multi-Centre class and for the cases exhibiting an integrable geodesic flow the relevant Killing tensors are given. We conclude by the proof that for the Bianchi B family, excluding type III, there are no hyperkähler metrics.
Using the instanton representation method we construct a general solution for GR in the spatially homogeneous case restricted to diagonal variables. This paper provides a testing ground and physical intuition for many of the salient features of general relativity which it is suggested should be preserved in the full theory.
The specific behavior of spinor field in curve space-time with the exception of FRW model almost always gives rise to non-trivial non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor. This non-triviality of non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor imposes some severe restrictions either on the spinor field or on the metric functions. In this paper within the scope of an anisotropic Bianchi type-I Universe we study the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. It is found that there exist two possibilities. In one scenario the initially anisotropic Universe evolves in…
Within the scope of Bianchi type-I cosmological model we study the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. It is found that due to the spinor affine connections the energy momentum tensor of the spinor becomes non-diagonal, whereas the Einstein tensor is diagonal. This non-triviality of non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor imposes some severe restrictions either on the spinor field or on the metric functions or on both of them. In case if the restrictions are imposed on the components of spinor field only, we come to a situation when spinor field becomes massles…
We make comparison of the dynamics of the diagonal and nondiagonal Bianchi IX models in the evolution towards the cosmological singularity. Apart from the original variables, we use the Hubble normalized ones commonly applied in the examination of the dynamics of homogeneous models. Applying the dynamical systems method leads to the result that in both cases the continuous space of critical points is higher dimensional and they are of the nonhyperbolic type. This is a generic feature of the dynamics of both cases and seems to be independent on the choice of phase space variables. The topologie…
Within the scope of Bianchi type-$I$ cosmological model we have studied the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. In doing so we have considered the case with non-minimal coupling. It was found that the non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor of the spinor field, hence the restrictions on the space-time geometry remain the same as in case of minimal coupling. Since in this case the diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor differ, the evolution of the corresponding universe also differs. For example, while a linear spinor field with non-minimal coupling o…
Within the scope of Bianchi type-$IX$ we have studied the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. It is found that unlike the diagonal Bianchi models in this case the components of energy-momentum tensor of spinor field along the principal axis are not the same, i.e. $T_1^1 \ne T_2^2 \ne T_3^3$, even in absence of spinor field nonlinearity. The presence of nontrivial non-diagonal components of energy-momentum tensor of the spinor field imposes severe restrictions both on geometry of space-time and on the spinor field itself. As a result the space-time turns out to be either loca…
In the context of modified tele-parallel theory of gravity, we undertake cosmological anisotropic models and search for their solutions. Within a suitable choice of non-diagonal tetrads, the decoupled equations of motion are obtained for Bianchi-I, Bianchi-III and Kantowski-Sachs models, from which we obtain the correspondent solutions. By the way, energy density and pressures are also obtained, showing, as an important result, that our universe may live a quintessence like universe even still anisotropic models are considered.
Assuming that the space-time is close to isotropic in the sense that the shear parameter is small and that the maximal velocity of the particles is bounded, we have been able to show that for non-diagonal Bianchi I-symmetric spacetimes with collisionless matter the asymptotic behaviour at late times is close to the special case of dust. We also have been able to show that all the Kasner exponents converge to 1/3 and an asymptotic expression for the induced metric has been obtained. The key was a bootstrap argument.
Pick an arbitrary timelike geodesic in an arbitrary spacetime. We demonstrate that there is a particular limiting process, an "ultra-local limit", in which the immediate neighborhood of the timelike geodesic can be "blown up" to yield a general (typically non-diagonal) Bianchi type I spacetime. This process shares some (but definitely not all) of the features of the Penrose limit, whereby the immediate neighborhood of an arbitrary null geodesic is "blown up" to yield a pp-wave as a limit.
The detailed formulation for loop quantum cosmology (LQC) in the Bianchi I model with a massless scalar field was recently constructed. In this paper, its effective dynamics with the LQC discreteness corrections is studied and the equations of motion are analytically solved, showing that the big bang singularity is replaced by the big bounces, which take place up to three times, once in each diagonal direction, whenever each of the area scale factors approaches its critical value in the Planck regime measured by the reference of the scalar field momentum.
Within the scope of Bianchi type-III spacetime we study the role of spinor field on the evolution of the Universe as well as the influence of gravity on the spinor field. In doing so we have considered a polynomial type of nonlinearity. In this case the spacetime remains locally rotationally symmetric and anisotropic all the time. It is found that depending on the sign of nonlinearity the models allows both accelerated and oscillatory modes of expansion. The non-diagonal components of energy-momentum tensor though impose some restrictions on metric functions and components of spinor field, unl…

We consider the loop quantization of the (diagonal) Bianchi type IX cosmological model. We explore different quantization prescriptions that extend the work of Wilson-Ewing and Singh. In particular, we study two different ways of implementing the so-called inverse triad corrections. We construct the corresponding Hamiltonian constraint operators and show that the singularity is formally resolved. We find the effective equations associated with the different quantization prescriptions, and study the relation with the isotropic $k$=1 model that, classically, is contained within the Bianchi IX mo…
A class of exact solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for diagonal Bianchi type IX cosmologies with cosmological constant is derived in the metric representation. This class consists of all the ``topological solutions'' which are associated with the Bianchi type IX reduction of the Chern-Simons functional in Ashtekar variables. The different solutions within the class arise from the topologically inequivalent choices of the integration contours in the transformation from the Ashtekarrepresentation to the metric representation. We show how the saddle-points of the reduced Chern-Simons funct…
Diagonal Bianchi type-IX models are studied in the quantum theory of $ N = 1 $ supergravity with a cosmological constant. It is shown, by imposing the supersymmetry and Lorentz quantum constraints, that there are no physical quantum states in this model. The $ k = + 1 $ Friedmann model in supergravity with cosmological constant does admit quantum states. However, the Bianchi type-IX model provides a better guide to the behaviour of a generic state, since more gravitino modes are available to be excited. These results indicate that there may be no physical quantum states in the full theory of $…
The general theory of N=1 supergravity with supermatter is applied to a Bianchi type IX diagonal model. The supermatter is constituted by a complex scalar field and its spin-$1\over 2$ fermionic partners. The Kähler geometry is chosen to be a two-dimensional flat one. The Lorentz invariant Ansatz for the wave function of the universe is taken to be as simple as possible in order to obtain {\it new} solutions. The set of differential equations derived from the quantum constraints are analysed in two different cases: if the supermatter terms include an analytical potential or not. In the latter …
Within the scope of Bianchi type-$VI_0$ spacetime we study the role of spinor field on the evolution of the Universe. It is found that the presence of nontrivial non-diagonal components of energy-momentum tensor of the spinor field plays vital role on the evolution of the Universe. As a result of their mutual influence there occur two different scenarios. In one case the invariants constructed from the bilinear forms of the spinor field become trivial, thus giving rise to a massless and linear spinor field Lagrangian. According to the second scenario massive and nonlinear terms do not vanish a…
A self-consistent system of nonlinear spinor and Bianchi type-V anisotropic gravitational fields are investigated. It is found that the presence of nontrivial non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor of the spinor field imposes some severe restrictions to the system. As a result two different solutions are found. In one case the metric functions are similar to each other, i.e., $a_1 \sim a_2 \sim a_3$ and the spinor mass and spinor field nonlinearity do not disappear from the system. In this case the spacetime expands with acceleration in case of a positive self-coupling constant …
The general form of the anisotropy parameter of the expansion for Bianchi type-III metric is obtained in the presence of a single diagonal imperfect fluid with a dynamically anisotropic equation of state parameter and a dynamical energy density in general relativity. A special law is assumed for the anisotropy of the fluid which reduces the anisotropy parameter of the expansion to a simple form. The exact solutions of the Einstein field equations, under the assumption on the anisotropy of the fluid, are obtained for exponential and power-law volumetric expansions. The isotropy of the fluid, sp…
A new mathematical framework is formulated to derive the effective equations of motion for the constrained quantum system which possesses an internal clock. In the realm close to classical behavior, the quantum evolution is approximated by a finite system of coupled but ordinary differential equations adhered to the weakly imposed Hamiltonian constraint. For the simplified version of loop quantum cosmology in the Bianchi I model with a free massless scalar filed, the resulting effective equations of motion affirm the bouncing scenario predicted by the previous studies: The big bang singularity…
We derive exact solutions to the vacuum Einstein field equations in 5D, under the assumption that (i) the line element in 5D possesses self-similar symmetry, in the classical understanding of Sedov, Taub and Zeldovich, and that (ii) the metric tensor is diagonal and independent of the coordinates for ordinary 3D space. These assumptions lead to three different types of self-similarity in 5D: homothetic, conformal and "wave-like". In this work we present the most general wave-like solutions to the 5D field equations. Using the standard technique based on Campbell's theorem, they generate a larg…
Loop quantization of diagonalized Bianchi class A models, leads to a partial difference equation as the Hamiltonian constraint at the quantum level. A criterion for testing a viable semiclassical limit has been formulated in terms of existence of the so-called pre-classical solutions. We demonstrate the existence of pre-classical solutions of the quantum equation for the vacuum Bianchi I model. All these solutions avoid the classical singularity at vanishing volume.
The detailed formulation for loop quantum cosmology (LQC) in the Bianchi I model with a scalar massless field has been constructed. In this paper, its effective dynamics is studied in two improved strategies for implementing the LQC discreteness corrections. Both schemes show that the big bang is replaced by the big bounces, which take place up to three times, once in each diagonal direction, when the area or volume scale factor approaches the critical values in the Planck regime measured by the reference of the scalar field momentum. These two strategies give different evolutions: In one sche…

We investigate diagonal Bianchi-I spacetimes in the presence of viscous fluids by using the shear and the anisotropic pressure components as the basic variables, where the viscosity is driven by the (second-order) causal thermodynamics. A few exact solutions are presented, among which we mention the anisotropic versions of de Sitter/anti-de Sitter geometries as well as an asymptotically isotropic spacetime presenting an effective constant cosmic acceleration without any cosmological constant. The qualitative analysis of the solutions for barotropic fluids with linear equations of state suggest…
A diagonal Bianchi Type III space-time is treated, both at the classical and quantum level, in the context of Horava - Lifshitz gravity. The system of the classical equations of motion is reduced to one independent Abel's equation of the first kind. Closed form solution are presented for various values of the coupling constants appearing in the action. Due to the method used, solutions of Euclidean, Lorentzian and neutral signature are attained. The solutions corresponding to \lamda <> 1 are seen to develop curvature singularities as the other constants approach their Einsteinian values, in co…
We investigate the set of spacetime general coordinate transformations (G.C.T.) which leave the line element of a generic Bianchi Type Geometry, quasi-form invariant; i.e. preserve manifest spatial Homogeneity. We find that these G.C.T.'s, induce special time-dependent automorphic changes, on the spatial scale factor matrix $γ_{αβ}(t)$ -along with corresponding changes on the lapse function $N(t)$ and the shift vector $N^α(t)$. These changes, which are Bianchi Type dependent, form a group and are, in general, different from those induced by the group SAut(G) -advocated in earlier investigation…
Loop quantum cosmological methods are extended to homogeneous models in diagonalized form. It is shown that the diagonalization leads to a simplification of the volume operator such that its spectrum can be determined explicitly. This allows the calculation of composite operators, most importantly the Hamiltonian constraint. As an application the dynamics of the Bianchi I model is studied and it is shown that its loop quantization is free of singularities.
We provide an affirmative answer to a question posed by Tod \cite{Tod:1995b}, and construct all four-dimensional Kahler metrics with vanishing scalar curvature which are invariant under the conformal action of Bianchi V group. The construction is based on the combination of twistor theory and the isomonodromic problem with two double poles. The resulting metrics are non-diagonal in the left-invariant basis and are explicitly given in terms of Bessel functions and their integrals. We also make a connection with the LeBrun ansatz, and characterise the associated solutions of the SU(\infty) Toda …
Within the scope of an anisotropic Bianchi type-V cosmological model we have studied the evolution of the universe. The assumption of a diagonal energy-momentum tensor leads to some severe restriction on the metric functions, which on its part imposes restriction on the components of the energy momentum tensor. This model allows anisotropic matter distribution. Further using the proportionality condition that relates the shear scalar $(σ)$ in the model is proportional to expansion scalar $(\vartheta)$ and the variation law of Hubble parameter, connecting Hubble parameter with volume scale. Exa…
We propose a quantum symmetry reduction of loop quantum gravity to Bianchi I spacetimes. To this end, we choose the diagonal metric gauge for the spatial diffeomorphism constraint at the classical level, leading to an $\mathbb{R}_{\text{Bohr}}$ gauge theory, and quantise the resulting theory via loop quantum gravity methods. Constraints which lead classically to a suitable reduction are imposed at the quantum level. The dynamics of the resulting model turn out to be very simple and manifestly coincide with those of a polymer quantisation of a Bianchi I model for the simplest choice of full the…
We study stability conditions of the full Hamiltonian constraint equation describing the quantum dynamics of the diagonal Bianchi I model in the context of LQC. Our analysis has shown robust evidence of an instability in the explicit implementation of the difference equation, implying important consequences for the correspondence between the full LQG theory and LQC. As a result, one may question the choice of the quantisation approach, the model of lattice refinement, and/or the role of the ambiguity parameters; all these should in principle be dictated by the full LQG theory.
A loop quantization of the diagonal class A Bianchi models starting from the complex-valued self-dual connection variables is presented in this paper. The basic operators in the quantum theory correspond to areas and generalized holonomies of the Ashtekar connection and the reality conditions are implemented via the choice of the inner product on the kinematical Hilbert space. The action of the Hamiltonian constraint operator is given explicitly for the case when the matter content is a massless scalar field (in which case the scalar field can be used as a relational clock), and it is shown th…
The general theory of N=1 supergravity with supermatter is applied to a Bianchi type IX diagonal model. The supermatter is constituted by a complex scalar field and its spin-$1\over 2$ fermionic partners. The Lorentz invariant Ansatz for the wave function of the universe, $Ψ$, is taken to be as simple as possible in order to obtain {\it new} solutions. The wave function has a simple form when the potential energy term is set to zero. However, neither the wormhole or the Hartle-Hawking state could be found. The Ansatz for $Ψ$ used in this paper is constrasted with the more general framework of …
