We study the origin of the resonances associated with pole singularities of the scattering amplitude in the chiral unitary approach. We propose a "natural renormalization" scheme using the low-energy interaction and the general principle of the scattering theory. We develop a method to distinguish dynamically generated resonances from genuine quark states [Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson (CDD) poles] using the natural renormalization scheme and phenomenological fitting. Analyzing physical meson-baryon scatterings, we find that the Lambda(1405) resonance is largely dominated by the meson-baryon molecule component. In contrast, the N(1535) resonance requires a sizable CDD pole contribution, while the effect of the meson-baryon dynamics is also important.
The decays eta, eta-prime --> pi+ pi- l+ l- (with l = e, mu) are investigated within a chiral unitary approach which combines the chiral effective Lagrangian with a coupled-channels Bethe-Salpeter equation. Predictions for the decay widths and spectra are given.
The self-energy of an eta in a nuclear medium is calculated in a chiral unitary model, and applied to eta states in nuclei. Our calculation predicts an attractive eta nucleus optical potential which can accommodate many eta bound states in different nuclei.
We study the structure of dynamically generated bound states in the chiral unitary approach. The compositeness of a bound state is defined through the wavefunction renormalization constant in the nonrelativistic field theory. We apply this argument to the chiral unitary approach and derive the relation between compositeness of the bound state and the subtraction constant of the loop integral. The compositeness condition is fairly compatible with the natural renormalization scheme, previously introduced in a different context.
We calculate the magnetic moments of the N(1535) resonance using the chiral unitary model, where the resonance is dynamically generated in the scatterings of the lowest-lying mesons and baryons. We obtain the magnetic moments of the resonance as +1.1 and -0.25 for p(1535) and n(1535), respectively, in units of the nuclear magneton. We discuss the origin of these numbers within the chiral unitary model, then we compare the present results with those of the quark model and the chiral doublet model. The possibility to observe the magnetic moments in experiments is also investigated.
We examine flavor SU(3) breaking effects on meson-baryon scattering amplitudes in the chiral unitary model. It turns out that the SU(3) breaking, which appears in the leading quark mass term in the chiral expansion, can not explain the channel dependence of the subtraction parameters of the model, which are crucial to reproduce the observed scattering amplitudes and resonance properties.
Various decays of eta and eta-prime are investigated within the framework of U(3) chiral effective field theory in combination with a relativistic coupled-channels approach. Final state interactions are included by deriving s- and p-wave interaction kernels for meson-meson scattering from the chiral effective Lagrangian and iterating them in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. Very good agreement with experimental data is achieved.
We study the S-wave interaction of mesons with baryons in the strangeness S=0 sector in a coupled channel unitary approach. The basic dynamics is drawn from the lowest order meson baryon chiral Lagrangians. Small modifications inspired by models with explicit vector meson exchange in the t-channel are also considered. In addition the pi pi N channel is included and shown to have an important repercussion in the results, particularly in the isospin 3/2 sector.
We construct the two- and three-nucleon potential based on the most general chiral effective pion-nucleon Lagrangian using the method of unitary transformations. For that, we develop a power counting scheme consistent with this projection formalism. In contrast to previous results obtained in old-fashioned time-ordered perturbation theory, the method employed leads to energy-independent potentials. We discuss in detail the similarities and differences to the existing chiral nucleon-nucleon potentials. We also show that to leading order in the power counting, the three-nucleon forces vanish len…
We investigate pion photoproduction off the proton in a manifestly gauge-invariant chiral unitary extension of chiral perturbation theory. In a first step, we consider meson-baryon scattering taking into account all next-to-leading order contact interactions. The resulting low-energy constants are determined by a fit to s-wave pion-nucleon scattering and the low-energy data for the reaction pi- p --> eta n. To assess the theoretical uncertainty, we perform two different fit strategies. Having determined the low-energy constants, we then analyse the data on the s-wave multipole amplitudes E0+ o…
The structure of dynamically generated states in the chiral unitary approach is studied from a viewpoint of their compositeness. We analyze the properties of bound states, virtual states, and resonances in a single-channel chiral unitary approach, paying attention to the energy dependence of the chiral interaction. We define the compositeness of a bound state using the field renormalization constant which is given by the overlap of the bare state and the physical state in the nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, or by the residue of the bound state propagator in the relativistic field theory. Th…
A new tool which combines chiral perturbation theory and unitarity in coupled channels is applied with success to the study of the meson-meson interaction, extending the theoretical predictions up to sqrt{s} = 1.2 GeV, hence improving considerably the convergence radius of conventional chiral perturbation theory. The method is applied to obtain the meson-meson phase shifts and inelasticities as well as the isoscalar pion-pion scattering amplitude inside a nuclear medium.
Based on chiral unitary approach, we construct the realistic KbarN local potential, which is useful for the quantitative calculation of Kbar-nuclei. Since the resonance pole structure of the KbarN system seems important for the Kbar-nuclei and the spacial structure of Lambda(1405), we establish the construction procedure of the local potential paying attention to the scattering amplitude in the complex energy plane. Furthermore, for the quantitative study of the Kbar-nuclei, we consider the constraint from the recent experimental data measured by SIDDHARTA, which significantly reduces the unce…
We investigate the dependence of s-wave meson-baryon scattering amplitudes on different regularizations within the framework of the chiral unitary model. We employ two different regularization schemes, i.e. dimensional and form-factor regulariaztions to tame the divergences in the model. We also study the analytic structures of T-matrices, using those regularization schemes. We find that while the form-factor regularizaion produces almost the same results as the dimensional regularization did, the on-shell approximation is to some extent limited in the case of the form-factor regularization. H…
The self-energy of an eta meson in the nuclear medium is calculated in a chiral unitary approach. A coupled channel Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved to obtain the effective eta-N interaction in the medium. The base model reproduces well the free space pi-N elastic and inelastic scattering at the eta-N threshold or N^*(1535) region. The Pauli blocking on the nucleons, binding potentials for the baryons and self-energies of the mesons are incorporated, including the eta self-energy in a self-consistent way. Our calculation predicts about -54 -i29 MeV for the optical potential at normal nuclear …
A chiral unitary approach for antikaon-nucleon scattering in on-shell factorization is studied. We find multiple sets of parameters for which the model describes all existing hadronic data similarly well. We confirm the two-pole structure of the $Λ(1405)$. The narrow $Λ(1405)$ pole appears at comparable positions in the complex energy plane, whereas the location of the broad pole suffers from a large uncertainty. In the second step, we use a simple model for photoproduction of $K^+πΣ$ off the proton and confront it with the experimental data from the CLAS collaboration. It is found that only a…
We study $pK^-$ scattering in the energy range from threshold through the $Λ(1520)$ peak in UBChPT, taking into account $\mathcal{O}(q)$ vertices from meson-baryon contact interactions and $s$- and $u$-channel ground-state baryon exchange, $s$- and $u$-channel decuplet- and nonet-baryon exchange and $t$-channel vector-meson exchange, as well as $\mathcal{O}(q^2)$ flavor-breaking vertices. Detailed fits to data are presented, including a substantial body of differential cross-section data with meson momentum $q_\mathrm{lab} > 300$ MeV not considered in previous treatments.
We report on recent nonperturbative techniques that combine the information of chiral Lagrangians (with and without resonances) with unitarity in coupled channels and other requirements of the S-matrix theory of the strong interactions. As a result, the region of applicability of such techniques is much larger than the one of Chiral Perturbation Theory allowing one to study also resonance physics. Applications to meson-meson and meson-baryon scattering, as well as to problems where pairs of mesons or a meson and a baryon appear in the initial or final state are shown. Implications in several n…
The s- and p-wave contributions to the $\bar K N$ interaction in dense nuclear matter are obtained using a chiral unitary approach. We perform a self-consistent calculation of the $\bar K$ self-energy including Pauli blocking effects, meson self-energies modified by short-range correlations and baryon binding potentials. We find that the on-shell factorization cannot be applied to evaluate the in-medium corrections to p-wave amplitudes. Furthermore, the $Λ$ and $Σ$ develop a mass shift of -30 MeV at saturation density while the $Σ^*$ width increases to 80 MeV. We conclude that no deep and narr…
We present and apply a novel scheme for studying photon- and pion-nucleon scattering beyond the threshold region. Partial-wave amplitudes for the $γ\, N$ and $πN$ states are obtained by an analytic extrapolation of subthreshold reaction amplitudes computed in chiral perturbation theory, where the constraints set by electromagnetic-gauge invariance, causality and unitarity are used to stabilize the extrapolation. Based on the chiral Lagrangian we recover the empirical s- and p-wave amplitudes up to energies $\sqrt{s}\simeq 1300$ MeV in terms of the parameters relevant at order $Q^3$.
We adopt a novel formalism for the low-energy analysis of the $γp \to K^{+}πΣ$ photoproduction reaction to calculate the $πΣ$ invariant mass distributions in the $Λ(1405)$ resonance region. The approach adheres to constraints arising from unitarity, gauge invariance and chiral perturbation theory, and is used without adjusting any model parameters. It is found that the meson-baryon rescattering in the final state has a major impact on the magnitude and structure of the generated spectra that are compared with the experimental data from the CLAS collaboration. We demonstrate a large sensitivity…
The Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved in the framework of unitary coupled-channel approximation by using the pseudoscalar meson-baryon octet interaction. The loop function of the intermediate meson and baryon is deduced in a dimensional regularization scheme, where the relativistic kinetic effect and off-shell corrections are taken into account. According to the experimental data at the $K^- p$ threshold, the subtraction constants in the loop function are determined. The squared amplitude is suppressed strongly and only one $Λ(1405)$ state is generated dynamically in the strangeness $S=-1$ and…
We present a gauge invariant approach to photoproduction of mesons on nucleons within a chiral unitary framework. The interaction kernel for meson-baryon scattering is derived from the chiral effective Lagrangian and iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. Within the leading order approximation to the interaction kernel, data on kaon photoproduction from SAPHIR, CLAS and CBELSA/TAPS are analyzed in the threshold region. The importance of gauge invariance and the precision of various approximations in the interaction kernel utilized in earlier works are discussed.
We revisit the $KN$ scattering amplitude in order to investigate the possibility for the existence of a broad resonance in the $I=0$ $KN$ channel around the energy of 1617 MeV with 305 MeV width. We use the chiral unitary model to describe the $KN$ scattering amplitudes and determine the model parameters so as to reproduce the differential cross sections of the $K^{+}N$ scatterings and the $I=0$ and 1 total cross sections up to $p_{lab} = 800$ MeV/c, from which inelastic contributions start to be significant. Performing analytic continuation of the determined amplitude to the complex energy pl…
We study the η' N interaction within a chiral unitary approach which includes πN, ηN and related pseudoscalar meson-baryon coupled channels. Since the SU(3) singlet does not contribute to the standard interaction and the η' is mostly a singlet, the resulting scattering amplitude is very small and inconsistent with experimental estimations of the η' N scattering length. The additional consideration of vector meson-baryon states into the coupled channel scheme, via normal and anomalous couplings of pseudoscalar to vector mesons, enhances substantially the η' N amplitude. We also exploit the free…
We derive the leading two-pion exchange contributions to the two-nucleon electromagnetic current operator in the framework of chiral effective field theory using the method of unitary transformation. Explicit results for the current and charge densities are given in momentum and coordinate space.
We analyse photoproduction of eta mesons off the proton in a gauge-invariant chiral unitary framework. The interaction kernel for meson-baryon scattering is derived from the leading order chiral effective Lagrangian and iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. The recent precise threshold data from the Crystal Ball at MAMI can be described rather well and the complex pole corresponding to the S11(1535) is extracted. An extension of the kernel is also discussed.
Starting from the Chiral Perturbation Theory Lagrangian, but keeping different masses for the charged and neutral mesons, and using a previously developed non-perturbative unitary scheme that generates the lightest meson-meson resonances, we construct K Kbar to K Kbar and K Kbar to pi+ pi- in the vector channel. This allows us to obtain the kaon-loop contribution to the phi-rho mixing and study the phi to pi+pi- decay. The dominant contribution to this decay comes from the phi to gamma to pi+pi- process. However, there can be large interferences with the subdominant contributions coming from p…
We construct pi-pi amplitudes that fulfill exact elastic unitarity, account for one loop Chiral Perturbation Theory contributions and include all 1/Nc leading terms, with the only limitation of considering just the lowest-lying nonet of exchanged resonances. Within such scheme, the Nc dependence of sigma and rho masses and widths is discussed. Robust conclusions are drawn in the case of the rho resonance, confirming that it is a stable meson in the limit of a large number of QCD colors, Nc. Less definitive conclusions are reached in the scalar-isoscalar sector. With the present quality of data…
We study the rho^0 and phi decays into pi^+ pi^- gamma, pi^0 pi^0 gamma and phi into pi^0 eta gamma using a chiral unitary approach to deal with the final state interaction of the M M system. The final state interaction modifies only moderately the large momenta tail of the photon spectrum of the rho^0 --> pi^+ pi^- gamma decay. In the case of phi decay the contribution to pi^+ pi^- gamma and pi^0 pi^0 gamma decay proceeds via kaonic loops and gives a distribution of pi pi invariant masses in which the f_0(980) resonance shows up with a very distinct peak. The spectrum found for phi --> pi^0 p…
We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the isoscalar-scalar channel using t he chiral unitary approach. The $t$-matrix of the pion-pion scattering in this c hannel is summed up to all orders using the B-S equation. We find that the calcu lated results at long distances are close to those of the $σ$-exchange inte raction. In addition, there appears a shorter range repulsion in this channel.
We employ the chiral nucleon-nucleon potential derived in ref.[1] to study bound and scattering states in the two-nucleon system. At next-to-leading order, this potential is the sum of renormalized one-pion and two-pion exchange and contact interactions. At next-to-next-to-leading order, we have additional chiral two-pion exchange with low-energy constants determined from pion-nucleon scattering. Alternatively, we consider the Δ(1232) as an explicit degree of freedom in the effective field theory. The nine parameters related to the contact interactions can be determined by a fit to the np S- a…
We develop a novel approach to chiral meson-baryon dynamics incorporating unitarity constraints and explicit resonance fields. It is based on the most general structure of any pion-nucleon partial wave amplitude neglecting the unphysical cuts as derived from the N/D method. This amplitude is then matched to the one-loop heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory result at third order and to tree level exchanges of baryon- and meson states in the s,t and u channels. This generates the left-hand cuts. The unitarization procedure does not involve form factors or regulator functions. The resonance pa…
We study the central part of Lambda N and Lambda Lambda potential by considering the correlated and uncorrelated two-meson exchange besides the omega exchange contribution. The correlated two-meson is evaluated in a chiral unitary approach. We find that a short range repulsion is generated by the correlated two-meson potential which also produces an attraction in the intermediate distance region. The uncorrelated two-meson exchange produces a sizeable attraction in all cases which is counterbalanced by omega exchange contribution.
Recent CLAS data for the pi Sigma invariant mass distributions (line-shapes) in the gamma p -> K^+ pi Sigma reaction are theoretically investigated. The line-shapes have peaks associated with the Lambda(1405) excitation. Our model consists of gauge invariant photo-production mechanisms, and the chiral unitary model that gives the rescattering amplitudes where Lambda(1405) is contained. It is found that, while the pi Sigma line-shape data in the Lambda(1405) region are successfully reproduced by our model for all the charge states, the production mechanism is not so simple that we need to intro…
In this work we study the interaction of the coupled channels $Ωη$ and $Ξ^* \bar{K}$ within the chiral unitary approach. The systems under consideration have total isospins $0$, strangeness $S = -3$, and spin $3/2$. We studied the $s$ wave interaction which implies that the possible resonances generated in the system can have spin-parity $J^P = 3/2^-$. The unitary amplitudes in coupled channels develop poles that can be associated with some known baryonic resonances. We find there is a dynamically generated $3/2^-$ $Ω$ state with mass around $1800$ MeV, which is in agreement with the predictio…
The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics. We evaluate Lambda(1405) form factors which are extracted from current-coupled scattering amplitudes in meson-baryon degrees of freedom. Using several probe currents and channel decomposition, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is dominantly composed of widely spread Kbar around N, with escaping pi Sigma component.
We study the pp -> p Lambda K+ and pp -> p Sigma0 K+ reactions near threshold by using a chiral unitary approach. We consider the single-pion and single-kaon exchange as well as the final state interactions of nucleon-hyperon, K-hyperon and K-nucleon systems. Our results on the total cross section of the pp -> p Lambda K+ reaction is consistent with the experimental data, and the experimental observed strong suppression of Sigma0 production compared to Lambda production at the same excess energy can also be explained in our model.
Using a chiral unitary model in which the negative parity nucleon resonance $N^\ast \equiv N^\ast(1535)$ is generated dynamically by means of the Bethe Salpeter equation with coupled meson baryon channels in the $S = 0$ sector, we have obtained the $π^0 N^\ast N^\ast$ and $ηN^\ast N^\ast$ couplings. The $π^0 N^\ast N^\ast$ coupling has smaller strength and the same sign as the $π^0 N N$ coupling. This rules out the mirror assignment of chiral symmetry where the ground state nucleon $N$ and the negative parity resonance $N^\ast$ are envisaged as chiral partners in the baryon sector.
The extension of chiral theories to the description of resonances, via the incorporation of unitarity in coupled channels, has provided us with a new theoretical perspective on the nature of some of the observed excited hadrons. In this contribution some of the early achievements in the field of baryonic resonances are reviewed, the recent evidence of the two-pole nature of the Lambda(1405) is discussed and results on charmed baryon resonances are presented.
By means of a coupled channel non-perturbative unitary approach, it is possible to extend the strong constrains of Chiral Perturbation Theory to higher energies. In particular, it is possible to reproduce the lowest lying resonances in meson-meson scattering up to 1.2 GeV using the parameters of the O(p^2) and O(p^4) Chiral Lagrangian. The meson baryon sector can also be tackled along similar lines. We report on an update of these results showing some examples of photon induced reactions where the techniques have been recently applied.
We review recent work on various topics related to the modification of kaon properties in nuclei. After a brief exposition of the kaon-nucleon and kaon-nucleus interaction, results from the application to kaonic atoms, renormalization of the f0 and a0 scalar resonances in nuclei and phi decay in the nucleus are shown.
Starting from a recent model where the Kbar N amplitudes are evaluated from the chiral Lagrangians using a coupled channel unitary method, we evaluate here the scattering length for K^- deuteron scattering. We find that the double scattering contribution is very large compared to the impulse approximation and that the charge exchange contribution of this rescattering is as large as the sequential K^- scattering on the two nucleons. Higher order rescattering corrections are evaluated using coupled channels with K^- and Kbar^0 within the integral form of the fixed centre approximation to the Fad…
We report on recent progress on the chiral unitary approach, analogous to the effective range expansion in Quantum Mechanics, which is shown to have a much larger convergence radius than ordinary chiral perturbation theory, allowing one to reproduce data for meson meson interaction up to 1.2 GeV. Applications to physical processes so far unsuited for a standard chiral perturbative approach are presented. Results for the extension of these ideas to the meson baryon sector are discussed, together with applications to kaons in a nuclear medium and $K^-$ atoms.
In this work, the properties of the $ρ$ meson at rest in cold symmetric nuclear matter are studied. We make use of a chiral unitary approach to pion-pion scattering in the vector-isovector channel, calculated from the lowest order Chiral Perturbation Theory ($χPT$) lagrangian including explicit resonance fields. Low energy chiral constraints are considered by matching our expressions to those of one loop $χPT$. To account for the medium corrections, the $ρ$ couples to $ππ$ pairs which are properly renormalized in the nuclear medium, accounting for both $p-h$ and $Δ-h$ excitations. The terms wh…
It is found that only a…
In this talk we briefly describe some basic elements of chiral perturbation theory, $χPT$, and how the implementation of unitarity and other novel elements lead to a better expansion of the $T$ matrix for meson meson and meson baryon interactions. Applications are then done to the $ ππ$ interaction in nuclear matter in the scalar and vector channels, antikaons in nuclei and $K^-$ atoms, and how the $ϕ$ meson properties are changed in a nuclear medium.
We study s-wave meson-baryon scattering using the chiral unitary model. We consider $1/2^{-}$ baryon resonances as quasibound states of the low lying mesons ($π,K,η$) and baryons ($N,Λ,Σ,Ξ$). In previous works, the subtraction constants which appear in loop integrals were found to largely depend on the channels, and it was necessary to fit these constants to reproduce the data. In order to extend this model to all channels with fewer parameters, we introduce flavor SU(3) breaking interactions in the framework of chiral perturbation theory. It is found, however, that the observed SU(3) breaking…
We present the complete derivation of the nuclear axial charge and current operators as well as the pseudoscalar operators to fourth order in the chiral expansion relative to the dominant one-body contribution using the method of unitary transformation. We demonstrate that the unitary ambiguity in the resulting operators can be eliminated by the requirement of renormalizability and by matching of the pion-pole contributions to the nuclear forces. We give expressions for the renormalized single-, two- and three-nucleon contributions to the charge and current operators and pseudoscalar operators…
We evaluate the "$σ$" exchange contribution to the $\bar{K}N\to\bar{K}N$ scattering within a chiral unitary approach. We show that the chiral transition potentials for $ππ\to K \bar{K}$ in the $t$-channel lead to a "$σ$" contribution that vanishes in the $\bar{K}$ forward direction and, hence, would produce a null "$σ$" exchange contribution to the $K^-$ optical potential in nuclear matter in a simple impulse approximation. This is a consequence of the fact that the leading order chiral Lagrangian gives an I=0 $ππ\to K\bar{K}$ amplitude proportional to the squared momentum transfer, $q^2$. Thi…
The ground-state energies and radii for $^{4}$He, $^{16}$O, and $^{40}$Ca are calculated with the unitary-model-operator approach (UMOA). In the present study, we employ the similarity renormalization group (SRG) evolved nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) and three-nucleon ($3N$) interactions based on the chiral effective field theory. This is the first UMOA calculation with both $NN$ and $3N$ interactions. The calculated ground-state energies and radii are consistent with the recent {\it ab initio} results with the same interaction. We evaluate the expectation values with two- and three-body SRG evolved …
We study the four-body decays $J/ψ\to N {\bar N}$ {\it meson meson} using a chiral unitary approach to account for the meson meson final state interaction (FSI). The calculation of the $J/ψ\to N \bar N π^+ π^-$ process properly reproduces the experimental data after taking the FSI of mesons and the contribution of intermediate $ρ$ meson into account. The isoscalar resonances $σ$, $f_0(980)$ and the isovector resonance $a_0(980)$ are generated through the FSI of the mesons in the channels $J/ψ\to N \bar N π^0 π^0$ and $J/ψ\to N \bar N π^0 η$, respectively. We also calculate the two mesons invar…
Our earlier Faddeev three-body study in the $K^-$-deuteron scattering length, $A_{K^-d}$, is revisited here in the light of the recent developments in two fronts: {\it (i)} the improved chiral unitary approach to the theoretical description of the coupled $\Kbar N$ related channels at low energies, and {\it (ii)} the new and improved measurement from SIDDHARTA Collaboration of the strong interaction energy shift and width in the lowest $K^-$-hydrogen atomic level. Those two, in combination, have allowed us to produced a reliable two-body input to the three-body calculation. All available low-e…
In this talk I summarize recent findings made on the description of axial vector mesons as dynamically generated states from the interaction of peseudoscalar mesons and vector mesons, dedicating some attention to the two $K_1(1270)$ states. Then I review the generation of open and hidden charm scalar and axial states. Finally, I present recent results showing that the low lying $1/2^+$ baryon resonances for S=-1 can be obtained as bound states or resonances of two mesons and one baryon in coupled channels dynamics.
The s-wave meson-baryon interaction in the $S = -1$, $S= 0$ and $S= -2$ sectors is studied by means of coupled channels, using the lowest-order chiral Lagrangian and the N/D method or equivalently the Bethe-Salpeter equation to implement unitarity. This chiral approach leads to the dynamical generation of the $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1670)$ and $Σ(1620)$ states for $S = -1$, the $N^*(1535)$ for $S= 0$ and the $Ξ(1620)$ for $S= -2$. We look for poles in the complex plane and extract the couplings of the resonances to the different final states. This allows identifying the $Λ(1405)$ and the $Λ(1670)$ reson…
Using a unitary extension of chiral perturbation theory with a lowest-order s-wave SU(3) chiral Lagrangian we study low-energy meson-baryon scattering in the strangeness $S=-2$ sector. A scattering-matrix pole is found around 1606 MeV which corresponds to an s-wave $Ξ$ resonance with $J^P=1/2^-$. We identify this resonance with the $Ξ(1620)$ state, quoted in the Particle Data Book with $I=1/2$ but with unknown spin and parity. The addition of the $S=-2$ state to the recently computed $Λ(1670)$, $Σ(1620)$ and N(1535) states completes the octet of $J^P=1/2^-$ resonances dynamically generated in …
We identify a redundancy between two- and three-nucleon contact interactions at the fourth and fifth order of the chiral expansion respectively. In particular we show that tensor-type and spin-orbit three-nucleon contact interactions effectively account for that part of the two-nucleon interaction which depends on the total center-of-mass momentum and is unconstrained by relativity. This might give the chiral effective field theory enough flexibility to successfully address $A=3$ scattering observables already at N3LO.
