The lightest neutralino, as the dark matter candidate, can be gravitationally captured by the Sun. In this paper, we studied the high energy neutrino signals from solar neutralino annihilations in the core of the Sun in the anomaly mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking (AMSB) model. Based on the event-by-event monte carlo simulation code WimpSim, we studied the detailed energy and angular spectrum of the final muons at large neutrino telescope IceCube. More precisely we simulated the processes since the production of neutrino via neutralino annihilation in the core of the Sun, neutrino propagation from the Sun to the Earth, as well as the converting processes from neutrino to muon. Our results showed that in the AMSB model it is possible to observe the energetic muons at IceCube, provided that the lightest neutralio has relatively large higgsino component, as a rule of thumb $ N_{13}^2 + N_{14}^2 > 4%$ or equivalently $ σ_{SD} > 10^{- 5} pb$. Especially, for our favorable parameters the signal annual events can reach 102 and the statistical significance can reach more than 20. We pointed out that the energy spectrum of muons may be used to distinguish among the AMSB model and other SUSY breaking scenarios.
We present a complete calculation of the cross section for neutralino annihilation into the two-gluon final state. This channel can be quite important for the phenomenology of neutralino annihilation due to the well-known helicity suppression of neutralino annihilation into light quarks and leptons. In addition, we calculate the cross section for annihilation of neutralinos into a gluon and quark-antiquark pair, and discuss QCD corrections to the tree-level cross sections for neutralino annihilation into quarks. If the neutralino is lighter than the top quark, the effect of these results on hi…
We estimate the flux of cosmic-ray antiprotons expected from the annihilation of neutralinos in the galactic halo. The antiproton signal may offer an important alternative detection scheme in the case that neutralino annihilation proceeds mainly to the two-gluon final state.
We discuss a robust and fairly model-independent upper bound on the possible neutrino flux produced by neutralino annihilation in the center of our galaxy, and show that its detection with present or future neutrino telescopes is highly improbable. This bound is obtained by relating the neutrino flux to the gamma flux that would be produced in the same annihilation processes, for which measurements do exist.
We evaluate the relic density of neutralinos in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. All 2-->2 neutralino annihilation diagrams, as well as all processes involving sleptons, charginos, neutralinos and third generation squarks are included. Relativistic thermal averaging of the velocity times cross sections is performed. We find that co-annihilation effects are only important on the edges of the model parameter space, where some amount of fine-tuning is necessary to obtain a reasonable relic density. Alternatively, at high tan(beta), annihilation through very broad Higgs resonances gives ri…
The lightest neutralino of R-parity conserving supersymmetric models serves as a compelling candidate to account for the presence of cold dark matter in the universe. In the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model, a relic density can be found in accord with recent WMAP data for large values of the parameter $\tanβ$, where neutralino annihilation in the early universe occurs via the broad s-channel resonance of the pseudoscalar Higgs boson $A$. We map out rates for indirect detection of neutralinos via 1. detection of neutrinos arising from neutralino annihilation in the core of the earth or sun a…
Three-body final states are included in the calculation of cross section and neutrino production in neutralino annihilations. In some regions of the parameter space, three-body channels maybe important and can enhance the neutrino flux by a few times.
We evaluate the antiproton--to--proton flux ratio which can be generated by neutralino--neutralino annihilation in the galactic halo, considering the most general compositions for the relic neutralinos and modelling the neutralino local density according to its relic abundance. We find that in the case of mixed neutralino compositions this $\bar p/p$ ratio is higher than for pure higgsinos or gauginos. It is shown how the expected improvements in sensitivity for the new measurements of the $\bar p/p$ may provide very useful information, complementary to the one obtainable with other experiment…
We compute the annihilation cross-section of two neutralinos at rest into two photons, which is of importance for the indirect detection of neutralino dark matter in the galactic halo through a quasi-monochromatic gamma-ray line. We include all diagrams to one-loop level in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. We use the helicity formalism, the background-field gauge, and an efficient loop-integral reduction method. We confirm the result recently obtained by Bergstrom and Ullio in a different gauge, which disagrees with other published calculations.
We calculate the flux of cosmic gamma rays expected {}from the annihilation of neutralinos in the Galactic halo. Our calculation of the annihilation cross section to two photons improves the existing calculations by inclusion of exact one-loop diagrams for the amplitudes involving Higgs boson and chargino states as well as those involving fermion and sfermion states. A survey of supersymmetric parameter space shows that numerous models would be observable at the $3σ$ level with an air Cerenkov telescope with an exposure of $10^4 \meter^2 \yr$.
Motivated by the interpretation of the recent results on the TeV gamma radiation from the Galactic center, including the new 2004 HESS data, as a by-product of dark matter particles annihilations, we address the question of the largest possible neutralino masses and pair annihilation cross sections in supersymmetric models. Extending the parameter space of minimal models, such as the mSUGRA and the mAMSB scenarios, to general soft SUSY breaking Higgs masses gives access to the largest possible pair annihilation rates, corresponding to resonantly annihilating neutralinos with maximal gaugino-hi…
We study the indirect detection of neutralino dark matter using positrons and gamma rays from its annihilation in the galactic halo. Considering the HESS data as the spectrum constituting the gamma--ray background, we compare the prospects for the experiments GLAST and PAMELA in a general supergravity framework with non--universal scalar and gaugino masses. We show that with a boost factor of about 10, PAMELA will be competitive with GLAST for typical NFW cuspy profiles.
It is widely believed that dark matter exists within galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Under the assumption that this dark matter is composed of the lightest, stable supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino, the feasibility of its indirect detection via observations of a diffuse gamma-ray signal due to neutralino annihilations within M31 is examined. To this end, first the dark matter halo of the close spiral galaxy M31 is modeled from observations, then the resultant gamma-ray flux is estimated within supersymmetric model configurations. We conclude that under favorable conditio…
We report the main results of a paper where recent data of low-energy cosmic-ray $\bar p$ spectrum have been analyzed in terms of newly calculated fluxes for secondary antiprotons and for a possible contribution of an exotic signal due to neutralino annihilation in the galactic halo. We also present the results of a paper in which we have proved that a sizeable fraction of the supersymmetric neutralino configurations, singled out by the DAMA/NaI data on a possible annual modulation effect in WIMP direct search, may provide detectable cosmic-ray antiproton signals.
We analyze the data of low-energy cosmic-ray antiproton spectrum, recently published by the BESS Collaboration, in terms of newly calculated fluxes for secondary antiprotons and for a possible contribution of an exotic signal due to neutralino annihilation in the galactic halo. We single out the relevant supersymmetric configurations and discuss their explorability with experiments of direct search for particle dark matter and at accelerators. We discuss how future measurements with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) on the Shuttle flight may disentangle the possible neutralino-induced cont…
Recent X-ray observations revealed that strong cooling flow of intracluster gas is not present in galaxy clusters, even though predicted theoretically if there is no additional heating source. I show that relativistic particles produced by dark matter neutralino annihilation in cluster cores provide a sufficient heating source to suppress the cooling flow, under reasonable astrophysical circumstances including adiabatic growth of central density profile, with appropriate particle physics parameters for dark matter neutralinos. In contrast to other astrophysical heat sources such as AGNs, this …
We analyze the indirect detection of neutralino dark matter in supergravity scenarios with non-universal soft scalar and gaugino masses. In particular, the gamma-ray flux arising from the galactic center due to neutralino annihilation is computed. In important regions of the parameter space it can be increased significantly (about two orders of magnitude) with respect to the universal scenario. This result is compared with the sensitivity of current and planned experiments, such as the satellite-based detectors EGRET and GLAST and the ground-based atmospheric telescope HESS. For example, for $…
We compute the cosmological background radiation of gamma rays and neutrinos due to neutralino annihilation in evolving dark matter halos, assuming the observed dark matter is comprised of thermally excited neutralinos in the MSSM. The spectrum of this gamma-ray background radiation does not show strong annihilation line features, but could amount to a significant fraction of the extragalactic gamma ray continuum flux observed by EGRET above a few GeV. The corresponding cosmological neutrino background is weak compared to the atmospheric foreground. Assuming full mixing, however, the cosmologi…
We present the first exact and most general neutralino-neutralino annihilation cross sections in the presence of flavor violation. The existing set of calculations in literature do not include flavour violation. These calculations are important for the calculation of relic density and indirect detection of dark matter in various experiments.
Supersymmetric neutralinos are one of the most promising candidates for the dark matter in the Universe. If they exist, they should make up some fraction of the Milky Way halo. We investigate the fluxes of positrons expected at the Earth from neutralino annihilation in the halo. Positron propagation is treated in a diffusion model including energy loss. The positron source function includes contributions from both continuum and monochromatic positrons. We find that, for a "canonical" halo model and propagation parameters, the fluxes are generally too low to be visible. Given the large uncertai…
A full one-loop calculation of neutralino S-wave annihilation into the $Zγ$ final state is performed in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. This process, like the similar one with two photons in the final state, may be of importance for the indirect detection of supersymmetric dark matter through the very narrow $γ$ ray line that would result from neutralino annihilations in the galactic halo. We give the complete analytical formulas for this loop-induced process and treat the case of a pure Higgsino as a first application of our expressions. Predictions for the gamma l…
Neutralino annihilations in the Sun to weak boson and top quark pairs lead to high-energy neutrinos that can be detected by the IceCube and KM3 experiments in the search for neutralino dark matter. We calculate the neutrino signals from real and virtual WW, ZZ, Zh, and $t \bar t$ production and decays, accounting for the spin-dependences of the matrix elements, which can have important influences on the neutrino energy spectra. We take into account neutrino propagation including neutrino oscillations, matter-resonance, absorption, and nu_tau regeneration effects in the Sun and evaluate the neu…
We calculate the cross section for s-wave neutralino annihilation to three-body final states below the W^+ W^- and t-bar t thresholds. Such three-body channels may dominate the annihilation cross section if the neutralino mass is not too much less than m_t and m_W respectively. Furthermore, because neutrinos produced in these channels are much more energetic than those from the $b\bar{b}$ or tau^+ tau^- channels, they can dominate the energetic-neutrino fluxes from neutralino annihilation in the Sun or Earth far below these thresholds and significantly enhance the neutrino signal in certain re…
Recent advances in N-body simulations of cold dark matter halos point to a substantial density enhancement near the center. This means that, e.g., the $γ$ ray signals from neutralino dark matter annihilations would be significantly enhanced compared to old estimates based on an isothermal sphere model with large core radius. Another important development concerns new detectors, both space- and ground-based, which will cover the window between 50 and 300 GeV where presently no cosmic $γ$-ray data are available. Thirdly, new calculations of the $γ$-ray line signal (a sharp spike of $10^{-3}$ rel…
We consider a model for neutralino dark matter candidates arising in anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking schemes, and examine its testability through the search for exotic cosmic rays produced by neutralino pair annihilations in the dark halo of the Galaxy. We find that the model is already constrained by available antiprotons and positrons measurements and may be further tested in upcoming measurements of these cosmic ray species. We show also that the monochromatic gamma-ray flux from neutralino annihilations is enhanced in this model up to two orders of magnitude with respect to alterna…
We calculate QCD correction to the neutralino annihilation cross section into quark anti-quark final state and discuss its implications to the calculation of neutralino relic density. We see that the QCD correction enhances the pair-annihilation cross section by O(10 %) when final-state quarks are non-relativistic. Consequently, when the lightest neutralinos dominantly annihilate into a t\bar{t} pair, the relic density of the lightest neutralino is significantly affected by the QCD correction, in particular when the lightest-neutralino mass is close to the top-quark mass.
The synthesis of Li6 during the epoch of Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) due to residual annihilation of dark matter particles is considered. By comparing the predicted Li6 to observations of this isotope in low-metallicity stars, generic constraints on s-wave dark matter annihilation rates into quarks, gauge bosons, and Higgs bosons are derived. It may be shown that, for example, wino dark matter in anomaly-mediated SUSY breaking scenarios with masses Mx < 250 GeV or light neutralinos with Mx < 20 GeV annihilating into light quarks are, taken face value, ruled out. These constraints may only b…
We use high resolution numerical simulations of the formation of cold dark matter halos to simulate the background of decay products from neutralino annihilation, such as gamma-rays or neutrinos. Halos are non-spherical, have steep singular density profiles and contain many thousands of surviving dark matter substructure clumps. This leads to several unique signatures in the gamma-ray background that may be confirmed or rejected by the next generation of gamma-ray experiments. Most importantly, the diffuse background is enhanced by over two orders of magnitude due to annihilation within substr…
We study all tree-level neutralino annihilation processes concerning energy-dependence at the mSUGRA benchmark point SPS1a using tree-level calculators MadGraph and CompHEP as well as FormCalc. We further investigate the total tree-level neutralino annihilation cross section by scanning over the mSUGRA parameters and identifying the dominant channels in every region. The results for the cross sections are presented in the m1/2-m0 planes for different values of tan(beta) and A0. We identify as well the resonances due to the exchange of the heavy Higgs bosons A and H in the s-channel of many neu…
We summarize our paper hep-ph/9908390, where we find that in some regions of supersymmetric parameter space, CP violating effects that mix the CP-even and CP-odd Higgs bosons can enhance the neutralino annihilation rate by factors of 10^6, and reduce the neutralino scattering rate off nucleons by factors of 10^{-7}.
We have calculated the full O(alpha_s) supersymmetric QCD corrections to neutralino-stop co-annihilation into electroweak vector and Higgs bosons within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We performed a parameter study within the phenomenological MSSM and demonstrated that the studied co-annihilation processes are phenomenologically relevant, especially in the context of a 126 GeV Higgs-like particle. By means of an example scenario we discuss the effect of the full next-to-leading order corrections on the co-annihilation cross section and show their impact on the predicted neut…
The Indirect Detection of neutralino Dark Matter is most promising through annihilation channels producing a hard energy spectrum for the detected particles, such as the neutralino annihilation into $Zh$. A cancellation however makes this particular annihilation channel generically subdominant in the huge parameter space of supersymmetric models. This cancellation requires non-trivial relations between neutralino mixings and masses, which we derive from gauge independence and unitarity of the MSSM. To show how the cancellation overshoots leaving only a subdominant result, we use a perturbative…
The flux of neutrino-induced muons at the surface of the Earth is calculated from injection of neutralino annihilation products in the core of the Sun and the Earth. An improved treatment of neutrino propagation through the Sun is performed and the results are presented in an easy-to-use parameterization. For an explicit supersymmetric model, an observable neutralino annihilation signal is demonstrated.
Various methods of searching for supersymmetric dark matter are sensitive to WIMPs with different properties. One consequence of this is that the phenomenology of dark matter detection can vary dramatically in different supersymmetric breaking scenarios. In this paper, we consider the sensitivities to supersymmetric dark matter of different detection methods and techniques in a wide variety of supersymmetric breaking scenarios. We discuss the ability of various astrophysical experiments, such as direct experiments, gamma-rays satellites, neutrino telescopes and positron and anti-proton cosmic …
We study how the properties of the four neutralino states, chi_i (i = 1, 2, 3, 4), can be investigated at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), in the case when the lightest one, chi_1, has a mass m_chi < 50 GeV and is stable. This situation arises naturally in supersymmetric models where gaugino masses are not unified at a Grand Unified (GUT) scale and R-parity is conserved. The main features of these neutralino states are established by analytical and numerical analyses, and two scenarios are singled out on the basis of the cosmological properties required for the relic neutralinos. Signals expec…
We derive a full set of exact, analytic expressions for the annihilation of the lightest neutralino pairs into all two-body tree-level final states in the framework of minimal supersymmetry. We make no simplifying assumptions about the neutralino nor about sfermion masses and mixings other than the absence of explicit CP--violating terms. The expressions should be particularly useful in computing the neutralino WIMP relic abundance without the usual approximation of partial wave expansion.
We consider supersymmetric scenarios, compatible with all cosmological and phenomenological requirements, where the lightest SUSY particles (LSPs) are the neutralino and a quasi degenerate gluino. We study the neutralino relic abundance, focusing on gluino (co-)annihilation effects. In case the neutralino is bino-like, in a wide mass window the relic abundance is naturally driven in the correct range for the LSP to be the main cold dark matter constituent. We show that the gluino is the strongest possible coannihilating partner of a bino-like neutralino in the general MSSM. Moreover, contrary …
High resolution simulations reveal that in the cold dark matter scenario the structures form hierarchically and a large number of substructures survive in the galactic halos. The substructures can be probed if they emit gamma rays via dark matter annihilation. We calculated the gamma ray fluxes from the dark matter annihilations in the substructures of our Galaxy within the frame of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. The uncertainties of the prediction from both the low energy supersymmetry and especially from the density profiles of dark matter in the substructures ar…
The paradigm of the neutralino dark matter predicts that the first gravitationally bound objects are earth-mass sized microhaloes, which would emit annihilation gamma-rays. Here we show that, though the flux from individual nearest microhaloes is extremely difficult to detect, meaningful constraints on their survival probability and internal density profile can be set by requiring that the galactic and extragalactic gamma-ray background flux from the microhaloes does not exceed the existing EGRET background data. Possible disruption of microhaloes by stellar encounters does not significantly r…
The complete 1-loop computation of the processes $(\tchi^0_i \tchi^0_j \leftrightarrowγγ, ~ gg)$, for any pair of the four MSSM neutralinos, has been performed for an arbitrary c.m energy. As a first application suitable for Dark Matter (DM) searches, the neutralino-neutralino annihilation is studied at relative velocities $v/c\simeq 10^{-3}$ describing the present DM distribution in the galactic halo, and $v/c\simeq 0.5$ determining neutralino relic density contributions. Numerical results are presented for 31 MSSM benchmark models indicating considerable sensitivity to the input parameters. …
The 1-loop computation of the processes $\tchi_i \tchi_j \to γZ$ has been performed at an arbitrary c.m. energy for any pair of MSSM neutralinos. As an application suitable for Dark Matter (DM) searches, the neutralino-neutralino annihilation is studied at the limiting case of vanishing relative velocity, describing the present DM distribution in the galactic halo; and at a relative velocity of about 0.5, determining the neutralino relic density contributions. The most useful situation is obviously for $i=j=1$, but the case of non-identical neutralinos may also be useful in some corners of the…
In the post-LEP2 era, and in light of recent measurements of the cosmic abundance of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe from WMAP, many supersymmetric models tend to predict 1. an overabundance of CDM and 2. pessimistically low rates for direct detection of neutralino dark matter. However, in models with a ``well-tempered neutralino'', where the neutralino composition is adjusted to give the measured abundance of CDM, the neutralino is typically of the mixed bino-wino or mixed bino-higgsino state. Along with the necessary enhancement to neutralino annihilation rates, these models tend to g…
We consider different patterns of supersymmetry breaking gaugino masses, and implications of these patterns for the phenomenology of neutralinos and charginos in models of low energy supersymmetry. We outline a general procedure for obtaining approximate values for the neutralino masses relevant for our analysis, and describe the constraints on the gaugino mass parameters which follow from the present experimental limits on the mass of the lightest chargino. We evaluate an upper bound on the mass of the lightest neutralino that follows from the structure of the mass matrix in different models …
We compute analytically the tree-level annihilation rates of a collection of non-relativistic neutralino and chargino two-particle states in the general MSSM, including the previously unknown off-diagonal rates. The results are prerequisites to the calculation of the Sommerfeld enhancement in the MSSM, which will be presented in subsequent work. They can also be used to obtain concise analytic expressions for MSSM dark matter pair annihilation in the present Universe for a large number of exclusive two-particle final states.
We show that in some regions of supersymmetric parameter space, CP violating effects that mix the CP-even and CP-odd Higgs bosons can enhance the neutralino annihilation rate, and hence the indirect detection rate of neutralino dark matter, by factors of 10^6. The same CP violating effects can reduce the neutralino scattering rate off nucleons, and hence the direct detection rate of neutralino dark matter, by factors of 10^{-7}. We study the dependence of these effects on the phase of the trilinear coupling A, and find cases in the region being probed by dark matter searches which are experime…
Searches for supersymmetry are among the most exciting physics goals at Run II of the Tevatron. In particular, in supersymmetric models with light charginos, neutralinos and sleptons, associated chargino--neutralino production can potentially be observed as multi-lepton events with missing energy. We discuss how, in the generic TeV-scale MSSM, the prospects for these chargino-neutralino searches are impacted by cosmological considerations, namely the neutralino relic abundance and direct detection limits. We also discuss what an observation of chargino-neutralino production at the Tevatron wou…
We report on two recent calculations of QCD corrections to neutralino annihilation cross sections: (1) the next-to-leading order corrections to chi chi -> g g, and (2) the contribution to the cross section for chi chi -> q qbar g arising from interference between the tree-level and loop-induced processes.
We present a complete calculation of the QCD and SUSY-QCD corrections to neutralino pair annihilation into bottom quark-antiquark pairs through exchange of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson, which is the dominant process in the cosmological A-funnel region of the mSUGRA model. We present numerical predictions for the annihilation cross section and discuss the influence of the correction terms on the cold dark matter relic density with respect to recent cosmological data.
The neutralino pair annihilation into two photons in our galactic halo gives a robust dark matter signal, since it would give a quasi-monotonic gamma ray. This process is radiatively-induced, and the full-one loop calculation was done previously. However, for the heavy wino-like or Higgsino-like neutralino, the one-loop cross section violates unitarity, therefore the higher-order corrections may be important. We construct a non-relativistic theory for chargino and neutralino two-body states, and estimate all-order QED corrections and two-loop corrections by $Z$ and/or $W$ exchange. We find tha…
Rare astrophysical events - cosmological gamma-ray bursts with energies over GeV - are considered as an origin of information about some SUSY parameters. The model of generation of the powerful gamma-ray bursts is proposed. According to this model the gamma-ray burst represents as a result of the collapse and the total annihilation of the neutralino clump. About 80 % of the clump mass radiates during about 100 second at the final stage of annihilation. The annihilation spectrum and its characteristic energies are calculated in the framework of Split Higgsino model.
We revisit the one-loop calculation of the annihilation of a pair of the lightest neutralinos into a pair of photons, a pair of gluons and also a Z photon final state. For the latter we have identified a new contribution that may not always be negligible. For all three processes we have conducted a tuned comparison with previous calculations for some characteristic scenarios. The approach to the very heavy higgsino and wino is studied and we argue how the full one-loop calculation should be matched into a more complete treatment that was presented recently for these extreme regimes. We also gi…
The calculation of the cosmological relic density of the dark matter candidate within supersymmetric models is an interesting possibility to obtain additional constraints on the supersymmetric parameter space with respect to collider, electroweak precision, and low-energy data. Considering future cosmological precision measurements, radiative corrections can play an important role in the analysis. We present full QCD and SUSY-QCD corrections to neutralino pair annihilation into quark-antiquark pairs and analyze their impact on the neutralino annihilation cross section and the relic density. By…
We investigate neutralino dark matter in the framework of NMSSM performing a scan over its parameter space and calculating neutralino capture and annihilation rates in the Sun. We discuss the prospects of searches for neutralino dark matter in neutrino experiments depending on neutralino content and its main annihilation channel. We recalculate the upper limits on neutralino-proton elastic cross sections directly from neutrino telescopes upper bounds on annihilation rates in the Sun. This procedure has advantages as compared with corresponding recalcalations from the limits on muon flux, namel…
We investigate the possibility to detect neutralino dark matter in a scenario in which the galactic dark halo is clumpy. We find that under customary assumptions on various astrophysical parameters, the antiproton and continuum gamma-ray signals from neutralino annihilation in the halo put the strongest limits on the clumpiness of a neutralino halo. We argue that indirect detection through neutrinos from the Earth and the Sun should not be much affected by clumpiness. We identify situations in parameter space where the gamma-ray line, positron and diffuse neutrino signals from annihilations in…
We study the phenomenology of neutralino dark matter within generic supersymmetric scenarios where the Gaugino and Higgsino masses are much lighter than the scalar soft breaking masses (Split Supersymmetry). We consider a low-energy model-independent approach and show that the guidelines in the definition of this general framework come from cosmology, which forces the lightest neutralino to have a mass smaller than 2.2 TeV. The testability of the framework is addressed by discussing all viable dark matter detection techniques. Current data on cosmic rays antimatter, gamma-rays and on the abund…
We compute the full O(alpha_s) supersymmetric (SUSY) QCD corrections for neutralino annihilation into massive quarks through gauge or Higgs bosons and squarks in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), including the known resummation of logarithmically enhanced terms. The numerical impact of the corrections on the extraction of SUSY mass parameters from cosmological data is analyzed for gravity-mediated SUSY breaking scenarios and shown to be sizable, so that these corrections must be included in common analysis tools.
The lightest neutralino is a viable dark matter (DM) candidate. In this paper we study indirect detection of the wino-like neutralino DM using positrons and antiprotons from the annihilation in the galactic halo. When the mass is around 2 TeV, which is favored from the thermal relic abundance, the non-perturbation effect significantly enhances the annihilation cross sections into positrons and antiprotons. We find that the positron and antiproton fluxes with energies larger than 100 GeV may become larger than the expected backgrounds. Since the positron flux is less sensitive to the astrophysi…
We describe in detail our calculation of the full supersymmetric (SUSY) QCD corrections to neutralino annihilation into heavy quarks and extend our numerical analysis of the resulting dark matter relic density to scenarios without scalar or gaugino mass unification. In these scenarios, the final state is often composed of top quarks and the annihilation proceeds through Z^0-boson or scalar top-quark exchanges. The impact of the corrections is again shown to be sizable, so that they must be taken into account systematically in global analyses of the supersymmetry parameter space.
Applying the microcanonical definition of entropy to a weakly interacting and self--gravitating neutralino gas, we evaluate the change in the local entropy per particle of this gas between the freeze out era and present day virialized halo structures. An ``entropy consistency'' criterion emerges by comparing theoretical and empirical estimates of this entropy. We apply this criterion to the cases when neutralinos are mostly B-inos and mostly Higgsinos, in conjunction with the usual ``abundance'' criterion requiring that present neutralino relic density complies with $0.2<Ω_{\tildeχ^1_0} < 0.4$…
We present the contributions from all types of one-loop corrections to the scattering amplitude for the pair production of polarized charginos or neutralinos from polarized electron-positron annihilation. The contributions are classified in terms of ``prototypes'' distinguished by the number of particles inside the loops and their spins. The results are quoted in terms of the Veltman-Passarino functions in terms of general couplings and internal masses. The results can therefore be applied to any supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model or indeed to any polarized fermion pair production …
Assuming the lightest neutralino forms dark matter, we study its residual annihilation after freeze-out at the early universe. If taking place after the big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) the annihilation products, especially at the hadronic modes, may cause nonthermal nuclear reaction and change the prediction of the primordial abundance of light elements in the standard BBN scenario. We therefore put constraints on the neutralino annihilation cross section. These constraints are free of the uncertainties of the dark matter profile today suffered by direct or indirect detection of dark matter. We…
