In models of modified gravity, extra degrees of freedom usually appear. They must be removed from the spectrum because they may indicate the presence of instabilities and because otherwise the model might not agree with observation. In the present letter, we will discuss a model that modifies General Relativity through the addition of a Lorentz-violating potential-like term for the metric. No additional propagating modes and no classical instabilities are present. The model departs from GR only in the extreme infrared region, and the cosmological evolution contains a bounce when the size of the Universe is of the same order of the added deformation.
The role played by a Lorentz-violating term on the outcomes of kink scattering in the $ϕ^6$ model is investigated by using the Fourier spectral method. Impacts of the Lorentz-violating term on the critical velocities, the location of two-bounce windows, and the maximal values of various types of energy densities are analyzed. Some novel features of kink-antikink collisions are discussed. The interactions between three and four kinks are also considered.
This paper investigates the Casimir Energy modifications due to the Lorentz-violating CPT-even contribution in an extension of the scalar QED. We have considered the complex scalar field satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions between two parallel plates separated by a small distance. An appropriate tensor parametrization allowed us to study the Casimir effect in three setups: isotropic, anisotropic parity-odd, and anisotropic parity-even. We have shown that the Lorentz-violating contributions promote increased Casimir energy for both the isotropic and anisotropic parity-odd configurations. H…
In this work, kink-antikink collision in a two-dimensional Lorentz-violating $ϕ^4$ model is considered. It is shown that the Lorentz-violating term in the proposed model does not affect the structure of the linear perturbation spectrum of the standard $ϕ^4$ model, and thus there exists only one vibrational mode. The Lorentz-violating term impacts, however, the frequency and spatial wave function of the vibrational mode. As a consequence, the well-known results on $ϕ^4$ kink-antikink collision will also change. Collisions of kink-antikink pairs with different values of initial velocities and Lo…
This paper presents divergent contributions of the radiative corrections for a Lorentz-violating extension of the scalar electrodynamics. We initially discuss some features of the model and extract the Feynman rules. Then we compute the one-loop radiative corrections using Feynman parametrization and dimensional regularization in order to evaluate the integrals. We also discuss Furry's theorem validity and renormalization in the present context.
In this work we make use of proper-time method to evaluate Schwinger effect in the presence of Lorentz-violating background fields. Specifically, we evaluate the one-loop effective Lagrangian in the presence of Lorentz-violating time-like vector background $b_μ$ and pseud-scalar $m_5$ for the pure electric case. The imaginary part of the effective Lagrangian is computed in order to calculate the Schwinger effect. Comments on phenomenology are also performed.
We explore the properties of a new Maxwell electrodynamics coupled to a Lorentz-violating background through the presence of higher-derivative terms. Physical implications of this alternative effective theory modified by Lorentz-violating operators of mass dimension-$5$ are considered, such as modified dispersion relations which exhibit the vacuum birefringence phenomenon. Subsequently, we analyze the energy-momentum tensor in the case we reproduce the Gambini-Pullin electrodynamics. We explicitly show that for a background time-like four-vector, $n^μ$, the equations of motion indeed reproduce…
Effective quantum field theories that allow for the possibility of Lorentz symmetry violation can sometimes also include redundancies of description in their Lagrangians. Explicit calculations in a Lorentz-violating generalization of Yukawa theory show that when this kind of redundancy exists, different renormalization schemes may lead to different expressions for the renormalization group $β$-functions, even at only one-loop order. However, the renormalization group scaling of physically observable quantities appears not to share this kind of scheme dependence.
We study the dimensional reduction for a $(3+1)$-dimensional Lorentz Violating Lagrangian in the matter and gauge sectors in a Supersymmetric scenario. We thus obtain an effective model for photons induced by the effects of supersymmetry in our framework with Lorentz-symmetry violating. This model is discussed in connection with the attainment of a static potential between charged particles. Our calculation is done within the framework of the gauge-invariant, but path-dependent variable formalism. We thus find that the interaction energy displays a screening part, encoded by Bessel functions, …
We investigate the possibility of coexistence between Dirac-like monopoles and Lorentz-violating electrodynamics. For this purpose, we study three distinct models: Myers-Pospelov, Ellis et al. and Gambini-Pullin. In particular, we find that in the Myers-Pospelov electrodynamics, magnetic sources may be properly induced when it is accompanied by the appearance of an extra electric current. The symmetry under duality transformations and the Dirac quantization condition in the aforementioned theories is also discussed.

We demonstrate the generation of the three-dimensional Chern-Simons-like Lorentz-breaking ``mixed" quadratic action via an appropriate Lorentz-breaking coupling of vector and scalar fields to the spinor field and study some features of the scalar QED with such a term. We show that the same term emerges through a nonpertubative method, namely the Julia-Toulouse approach of condensation of charges and defects.
We consider topological defects for the $λϕ^4$ theory in (1+1) dimensions with a Lorentz-violating background. It has been shown, by M. Barreto et al. (2006) \cite{barreto2006defect}, one cannot have original effects in (the leading order of) single scalar field model. Here, we introduce a new Lorentz-violating term, next to leading order which cannot be absorbed by any redefinition of the scalar field or coordinates. Our term is the lowest order term which leads to concrete effects on the kink properties. We calculate the corrections to the kink shape and the corresponding mass. Quantization …
There is a U(4')\times U(4)-bundle on four-dimensional square root Lorentz manifold. Then a Pati-Salam model in curved space-time (Lagrangian) and a gravity theory (Lagrangian) are constructed on square root Lorentz manifold based on self-parallel transportation principle. An explicit formulation of Sheaf quantization on this square root Lorentz manifold is shown. Sheaf quantization is based on superposition principle and construct a linear Sheaf space in curved space-time. The transition amplitude in path integral quantization is given which is consistent with Sheaf quantization. All particle…
