The effective Heisenberg interaction of long distance is constructed in spin qubits connected to a bus of two strongly coupled chains. Universal quantum computation can be realized on the basis of the bus which always keeps frozen at the ground state. It is found that the effective interaction is primarily determined by the energy spectra of the bus. With the variation of the distance between two connecting nodes, the interaction alternately occurs between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic ones. The long range interaction can also be attained in coupled infinite chains. The quantum gate operations with the high precision are implemented in the condition of quantum fluctuations.
We describe a method to perform two qubit measurements and logic operations on pairs of qubits which each interact with a harmonic oscillator degree of freedom (the \emph{bus}), but do not directly interact with one another. Our scheme uses only weak interactions between the qubit and the bus, homodyne measurements, and single qubit operations. In contrast to earlier schemes, the technique presented here is extremely robust to photon loss in the bus mode, and can function with high fidelity even when the rate of photon loss is comparable to the strength of the qubit-bus coupling.
This paper investigates numerically a phenomenon which can be used to transport a single q-bit down a J1-J2 Heisenberg spin chain using a quantum adiabatic process. The motivation for investigating such processes comes from the idea that this method of transport could potentially be used as a means of sending data to various parts of a quantum computer made of artificial spins, and that this method could take advantage of the easily prepared ground state at the so called Majumdar-Ghosh point. We examine several annealing protocols for this process and find similar result for all of them. The a…
We study the quality of state and entanglement transmission through quantum channels described by spin chains varying both the system parameters and the initial state of the channel. We consider a vast class of one-dimensional many-body models which contains some of the most relevant experimental realizations of quantum data-buses. In particular, we consider spin-1/2 XY and XXZ model with open boundary conditions. Our results show a significant difference between free-fermionic (non-interacting) systems (XY) and interacting ones (XXZ), where in the former case initialization can be exploited f…
We introduce a scheme based on adiabatic passage that allows for long-range quantum communication through tight-binding chain with always-on interaction. By adiabatically varying the external gate voltage applied on the system, the electron can be transported from the sender's dot to the aim one.We numerically solve the Schrödinger equation for a system with a given number of quantum dots. It is shown that this scheme is a simple and efficient protocol to coherently manipulate the population transfer under suitable gate pulses. The dependence of the energy gap and the transfer time on system p…
We implement an iterative quantum state transfer exploiting the natural dipolar couplings in a spin chain of a liquid crystal NMR system. During each iteration a finite part of the amplitude of the state is transferred and by applying an external operation on only the last two spins the transferred state is made to accumulate on the spin at the end point. The transfer fidelity reaches one asymptotically through increasing the number of iterations. We also implement the inverted version of the scheme which can transfer an arbitrary state from the end point to any other position of the chain and…
We study the protocol known as quantum state transfer for a strongly coupled antiferromagnetic spin chain or ring (acting as a spin bus), with weakly coupled external qubits. By treating the weak coupling as a perturbation, we find that perfect state transfer (PST) is possible when second order terms are included in the expansion. We also show that PST is robust against variations in the couplings along the spin bus and between the bus and the qubits. As evidence of the quantum interference which mediates PST, we show that the optimal time for PST can be smaller with larger qubit separations, …
Two different models for performing efficiently routing of a quantum state are presented. Both cases involve an XX spin chain working as data bus and additional spins that play the role of sender and receivers, one of which is selected to be the target of the quantum state transmission protocol via a coherent quantum coupling mechanism making use of local/global magnetic fields. Quantum routing is achieved, in the first of the models considered, by weakly coupling the sender and the receiver to the data bus. In the second model, strong magnetic fields acting on additional spins located between…
A strongly coupled spin chain can mediate long-distance effective couplings or entanglement between remote qubits, and can be used as a quantum data bus. We study how the fidelity of a spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain as a spin bus is affected by static random exchange couplings and magnetic fields. We find that, while non-uniform exchange couplings preserve the isotropy of the qubit effective couplings, they cause the energy levels, the eigenstates, and the magnitude of the couplings to vary locally. On the other hand, random local magnetic fields lead to an avoided level crossing for the bus ground…
We systematically study the transfer of quantum state of electron spin as the flying qubit along a half-filled Peierls distorted tight-binding chain described by the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, which behaves as a quantum data bus. This enables a novel physical mechanism for quantum communication with always-on interaction: the effective hopping of the spin carrier between sites $A$ and $B$ connected to two sites in this SSH chain can be induced by the quasi-excitations of the SSH model. As we prove, it is the Peierls energy gap of the SSH quasi-excitations that plays a crucial role to pr…
We propose and analyze an efficient high-dimensional quantum state transfer scheme through an $XXZ$-Heisenberg spin chain in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. By the use of a combination of coherent quantum coupling and free spin-wave approximation, pure unitary evolution results in a perfect high-dimensional swap operation between two remote quantum registers mediated by a uniform quantum data bus, and the feasibility is confirmed by numerical simulations. Also, we observe that either the strong $z$-directional coupling or high quantum spin number can partly suppress the thermal excitations an…
We describe two protocols for efficient data transmission using a single passive bus. Different types of interactions are obtained enabling deterministic transfer and teleportation of composite quantum systems for arbitrary subsystem dimension and for arbitrary numbers of subsystems. The subsystems may become entangled in the transmission in which case the protocols can serve generalized teleportation based information processing as well as storage and transmission functions. We explore the cases of two qubits and two qutrits in detail, obtaining a maximally entangling mapping of the composite…
We study the propagation of different types of correlations through a quantum bus formed by a chain of coupled harmonic oscillators. This includes steering, entanglement, mutual information, quantum discord, and Bell-like nonlocality. The whole system consists of the quantum bus (propagation medium) and other quantum harmonic oscillators (sources and receivers of quantum correlations) weakly coupled to the chain. We are particularly interested in using the point of view of transport to spot distinctive features displayed by different kinds of correlations. We found, for instance, that there ar…
We propose a new fast scalable method for achieving a two-qubit entangling gate between arbitrary distant qubits in a network by exploiting dispersionless propagation in uniform chains. This is achieved dynamically by switching on a strong interaction between the qubits and a bus formed by a non-engineered chain of interacting qubits. The quality of the gate scales very efficiently with qubit separations. Surprisingly, a sudden switching of the coupling is not necessary and our gate mechanism is not altered by a possibly gradual switching. The bus is also naturally reset to its initial state m…
We consider the perfect transfer of a state between arbitrary nodes of one-dimensional spin-1/2 chain with optimally engineered couplings. Motivated by the fact that such a system could be used as a data bus for connecting multiple quantum processors, we derive two necessary and sufficient conditions that have to be met in order to perfectly transfer a state between any two nodes and we employ them to examine both open and closed geometries. Analytical calculations and numerical optimizations are performed for both cases in order to determine the reachability of certain target states and to pr…
In this paper we examine the use of an adiabatic quantum data transfer protocol to build a universal quantum computer. Single qubit gates are realized by using a bus protocol to transfer qubits of information down a spin chain with a unitary twist. This twist arises from altered couplings on the chain corresponding to unitary rotations performed on one region of the chain. We show how a controlled NOT gate can be realized by using a control qubit with Ising type coupling. The method discussed here can be extended to non-adiabatic quantum bus protocols. We also examine the potential of realizin…
Two qubit entanglement can be induced by a quantum data bus interacting with them. In this paper, with the quantum spin chain in the transverse field as an illustration of quantum data bus, we show that such induced entanglement can be enhanced by the quantum phase transition (QPT) of the quantum data bus. We consider two external spins simultaneously coupled to a transverse field Ising chain. By adiabatically eliminating the degrees of the chain, the effective coupling between these two spins are obtained. The matrix elements of the effective Hamiltonian are expressed in terms of dynamical st…
We introduce a tight-binding chain with a single impurity to act as a quantum data bus for perfect quantum state transfer. Our proposal is based on the weak coupling limit of the two outermost quantum dots to the data bus. First show that the data bus has an energy gap between the ground and first-excited states in the single-particle case induced by the impurity in the single particle case. By connecting two quantum dots to two sites of the data bus, the system can accomplish a high-fidelity and long-distance quantum state transfer. Numerical simulations were performed for a finite system; th…
We propose an experimentally feasible architecture with controllable long-range couplings built up from local exchange interactions. The scheme consists of a spin-bus, with strong, always-on interactions, coupled dynamically to external qubits of the Loss and DiVincenzo type. Long-range correlations are enabled by a spectral gap occurring in a finite-size chain. The bus can also form a hub for multiqubit entangling operations. We show how multiqubit gates may be used to efficiently generate $W$-states (an important entanglement resource). The spin-bus therefore provides a route for scalable so…
Entangling multiple qubits is one of the central tasks for quantum information processings. Here, we propose an approach to entangle a number of cold ions (individually trapped in a string of microtraps) by a moved cavity. The cavity is pushed to include the ions one by one with an uniform velocity, and thus the information stored in former ions could be transferred to the latter ones by such a moving cavity bus. Since the positions of the trapped ions are precisely located, the strengths and durations of the ion-cavity interactions can be exactly controlled. As a consequence, by properly sett…
We propose a quantum computer architecture based on quantum dots both for short distance and for long distance communication/computation. Our scheme exploits the natural characteristics of self-assembled quantum dots and it is scalable. It is centered on the idea of a quantum bus based on semiconductor self-assembled quantum dots. This allows for transmission of qubits between the different quantum registers, and could be integrated in most of the present proposal for semiconductor quantum dot-based quantum computation. Our proposal exploits the peculiar properties of {\it relatively short} sp…
In this paper, we investigate a high-dimensional quantum state transfer protocol. An arbitrary unknown high-dimensional state can be transferred with high fidelity between two remote registers through a XX coupling spin chain of arbitrary length. The evolution of the state transfer is determined by the natural dynamics of the chain without external modulation and coupling strength engineering. As a consequence, entanglement distribution with high efficiency can be achieved. Also the strong field and high spin quantum number can counteract partly the effect of finite temperature to ensure high …
In this work, we perform a careful study of an special arrangement of coupled systems that consists of two external harmonic oscillators weakly coupled to an arbitrary network (data bus) of strongly interacting oscillators. Our aim is to establish simple effective Hamiltonians and Liouvillians allowing an accurate description of the dynamics of the external oscillators regardless the topology of the network. By simple we mean an effective description using just a few degrees of freedom. In order to do that, we employed the machinery of symplectic formalism to generalize and expand the ideas pr…
The power of a quantum circuit is determined through the number of two-qubit entangling gates that can be performed within the coherence time of the system. In the absence of parallel quantum gate operations, this would make the quantum simulators limited to shallow circuits. Here, we propose a protocol to parallelize the implementation of two-qubit entangling gates between multiple users which are spatially separated, and use a commonly shared spin chain data-bus. Our protocol works through inducing effective interaction between each pair of qubits without disturbing the others, therefore, it…
Diamond is a proven solid-state platform for spin-based quantum technology. The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond has been used to realize small-scale quantum information processing (QIP) and quantum sensing under ambient conditions. A major barrier in the development of large-scale QIP in diamond is the connection of NV spin registers by a quantum bus at room temperature. Given that diamond is expected to be an ideal spin transport material, the coherent transport of spin directly between the spin registers offers a potential solution. Yet, there has been no demonstration of spin transp…
