We give an explicit expression for the (finitely) flat remainder after analytic normal form reduction of a family of planar saddles of diffeomorphisms or vector fields. We distinguish between a rational or irrational ratio of the moduli of the eigenvalues at the saddle for a certain value of the parameter.

Global Saddles for Planar Maps

We study the dynamics of planar diffeomorphisms having a unique fixed point that is a hyperbolic local saddle. We obtain sufficient conditions under which the fixed point is a global saddle. We also address the special case of $D_2$-symmetric maps, for which we obtain a similar result for $C^1$ homeomorphisms. Some applications to differential equations are also given.

Saddle-node canard cycles in planar piecewise linear differential systems

By applying a singular perturbation approach, canard limit cycles exhibited by a general family of singularly perturbed planar piecewise linear (PWL) differential systems are analyzed. The performed study involves both hyperbolic and non-hyperbolic canard limit cycles appearing after both a supercritical and a subcritical Hopf bifurcation. The obtained results are completely comparable with those obtained for smooth vector fields. We prove that every heteroclinic saddle loop (a two-saddle cycle) occurring in an analytic finite-parameter family of plane analytic vector fields, may generate no more than a finite number of limit cycles within the family.

Analytic normal forms for planar resonant saddle vector fields

We give essentially unique ``normal forms'' for germs of a holomorphic vector field of the complex plane in the neighborhood of an isolated singularity which is a p:q resonant-saddle. Hence each vector field of that type is conjugate, by a germ of a biholomorphic map at the singularity, to a preferred element of an explicit family of vector fields. Bifurcations of heteroclinic contours in two-parameter planar systems: Overview and explicit examples

Smooth planar vector fields containing two hyperbolic saddles may possess contours formed by heteroclinic connections between these saddles. We present an overview of the bifurcations of these contours based on papers by J.W. Reyn and A.V. Dukov. Additionally, two new explicit polynomial systems containing such contours are derived, which are studied using the bifurcation software MatCont and are shown to exhibit the theoretically predicted phenomena, including series of heteroclinic connections.

Box dimension of unit-time map near nilpotent singularity of planar vector field

The connection between discrete and continuous dynamical systems through the unit-time map has shown a significant role in bifurcation theory. Recently, it has also been used in fractal analysis of bifurcations. New structurally unstable families of planar vector fields

We study global bifurcations in generic 3-parameter families of vector fields on $S^2$. In the recent article [arXiv:1506.06797], Ilyashenko, Kudryashov, and Schurov show that 3-parameter unfoldings of vector fields with the polycycle "tears of the heart" are structurally unstable. We consider 3-parameter unfoldings of vector fields with separatrix graphs "ears" and "glasses", and prove that these families are structurally unstable as well. We also study in more details the classical bifurcation of a saddle loop, and use it as a building block in our main example.

Dynamics on the Double Morse Potential: A Paradigm for Roaming Reactions with no Saddle Points

In this paper we analyze a two degree of freedom Hamiltonian system constructed from two planar Morse potentials. The resulting potential energy surface has two potential wells surrounded by an unbounded flat region containing no critical points. In addition, the model has an index one saddle between the potential wells.
