New structurally unstable families of planar vector fields

We study global bifurcations in generic 3-parameter families of vector fields on $S^2$. In the recent article [arXiv:1506.06797], Ilyashenko, Kudryashov, and Schurov show that 3-parameter unfoldings of vector fields with the polycycle "tears of the heart" are structurally unstable. We consider 3-parameter unfoldings of vector fields with separatrix graphs "ears" and "glasses", and prove that these families are structurally unstable as well. We also study in more details the classical bifurcation of a saddle loop, and use it as a building block in our main example.

Stability of Bimodal Planar Switched Linear Systems with Both Stable and Unstable Subsystems

We study dynamics of a bimodal planar linear switched system with a Hurwitz stable and an unstable subsystem. For given \textit{flee time} from the unstable subsystem, the goal is to find corresponding \textit{dwell time} in the Hurwitz stable subsystem so that the switched system is asymptotically stable. The dwell-flee relations obtained are in terms of certain smooth functions of the eigenvalues and (generalized) eigenvectors of the subsystem matrices. Cascades of e-invisibility

We consider statistical attractors of locally typical dynamical systems and their "e-invisible" subsets: parts of the attractors whose neighborhoods are visited by orbits with an average frequency of less than e << 1. For extraordinarily small values of e (say, smaller than 2^(-10^6)), an observer virtually never sees these parts when following a generic orbit. Rapid and Accurate Methods for Computing Whiskered Tori and their Manifolds in Periodically Perturbed Planar Circular Restricted 3-Body Problems

When the planar circular restricted 3-body problem (RTBP) is periodically perturbed, families of unstable periodic orbits break up into whiskered tori, with most tori persisting into the perturbed system. Homoclinic classes for generic C^1 vector fields

We prove that homoclinic classes for a residual set of C^1 vector fields X on closed n-manifolds are maximal transitive and depend continuously on periodic orbit data. In addition, X does not exhibit cycles formed by homoclinic classes. We also prove that a homoclinic class of X is isolated if and only if it is Omega-isolated, and that it is the intersection of its stable set and its unstable set. All these properties are well known for structurally stable Axiom A vector fields.

Unfolding homoclinic connections formed by corner intersections in piecewise-smooth maps

The stable and unstable manifolds of an invariant set of a piecewise-smooth map are themselves piecewise-smooth. Consequently, as parameters of a piecewise-smooth map are varied, an invariant set can develop a homoclinic connection when its stable manifold intersects a non-differentiable point of its unstable manifold (or vice-versa). Bifurcations of the polycycle "tears of the heart": multiple numerical invariants

"Tears of the heart" is a hyperbolic polycycle formed by three separatrix connections of two saddles. It is met in generic 3-parameter families of planar vector fields. In [arXiv:1506.06797], it was discovered that generically, the bifurcation of a vector field with "tears of the heart" is structurally unstable. The authors proved that the classification of such bifurcations has a numerical invariant. In this article, we study the bifurcations of "tears of the heart" in more detail, and find out that the classification of such bifurcation may have arbitrarily many numerical invariants.
