Exploiting continuity properties of Fourier multipliers on modulation spaces and Wiener amalgam spaces, we study the
Cauchy problem for the NLW equation. Local wellposedness for rough data in modulation spaces and Wiener amalgam spaces is shown. The results formulated in the framework of modulation spaces refine those in [3]. The same arguments may apply to obtain local wellposedness for the NLKG equation.
Fourier multiplier analysis is developed for nonlocal peridynamic-type Laplace operators, which are defined for scalar fields in $\mathbb{R}^n$. The Fourier multipliers are given through an integral representation. We show that the integral representation of the Fourier multipliers is recognized explicitly through a unified and general formula in terms of the hypergeometric function $_2F_3$ in any spatial dimension $n$. Asymptotic analysis of $_2F_3$ is utilized to identify the asymptotic behavior of the Fourier multipliers $m(ν)$ as $\|ν\|\rightarrow \infty$. We show that the multipliers are …
The main purpose of this paper is to study $L^r$ Hölder type estimates for a bi-parameter trilinear Fourier multiplier with flag singularity, and the analogous pseudo-differential operator, when the symbols are in a certain product form. More precisely, for $f,g,h\in \mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R}^{2})$, the bi-parameter trilinear flag Fourier multiplier operators we consider are defined by $$ T_{m_1,m_2}(f,g,h)(x):=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{6}}m_1(ξ,η,ζ)m_2(η,ζ)\hat f(ξ) \hat g(η)\hat h(ζ)e^{2πi(ξ+η+ζ)\cdot x}dξdηdζ, $$ when $m_1,m_2$ are two bi-parameter symbols. We will show that our problem can be reduced…
It is well known that the Stein-Tomas $L^2$ Fourier restriction theorem can be used to derive sharp $L^p$ bounds for radial Fourier multipliers such as the Bochner-Riesz means. In a similar manner, $L^p \to L^2$ estimates for spectral projection operators have been utilized in order to obtain sharp $L^p$ bounds for spectral multipliers of self-adjoint elliptic pseudo-differential operators on compact manifolds. In this paper, we refine an endpoint result for spectral multipliers due to Seeger, providing endpoint bounds in terms of Besov spaces. Our proof is based on the ideas from the recent w…
In this paper, we investigate the global properties of Fourier multipliers in the setting of nonharmonic analysis of boundary value problems. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a Fourier multiplier to be globally hypoelliptic and also to be globally solvable. As an application, we consider operators on $[0,1]^2$ with non-periodic boundary conditions and we obtain results that extend what is already known in the periodic case.
In this work we investigate the boundedness of Fourier multipliers on Triebel-Lizorkin spaces associated to positive Rockland operators on a graded Lie group. The found criterion is expressed in terms of the Hörmander-Mihlin condition on the global symbol of a Fourier multiplier.
We give an overview of some recent results on operator-valued $(L^{p},L^{q})$ Fourier multipliers and stability theory for evolution equations. The aim is to provide a relatively nontechnical introduction to the underlying ideas, emphasizing the connection between the two areas. We also indicate how operator-valued $(L^{p},L^{q})$ Fourier multipliers can be applied to functional calculus theory.
The $(k,a)$-generalised Fourier transform is the unitary operator defined using the $a$-deformed Dunkl harmonic oscillator. The main aim of this paper is to prove $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of $(k, a)$-generalised Fourier multipliers. To show the boundedness we first establish Paley inequality and Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality for $(k, a)$-generalised Fourier transform. We also demonstrate applications of obtained results to study the well-posedness of nonlinear partial differential equations.
In this paper we study the $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of the Fourier multipliers in the setting where the underlying Fourier analysis is introduced with respect to the eigenfunctions of an anharmonic oscillator $A$. Using the notion of a global symbol that arises from this analysis, we extend a version of the Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality that guarantees the $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of these operators for the range $1<p \leq 2 \leq q <\infty$. The boundedness results for spectral multipliers acquired, yield as particular cases Sobolev embedding theorems and time asymptotics for the $L^p$-$L^q$ …
A characterization for the Fourier multipliers and eigenvalues of linear peridynamic operators is provided. The analysis is presented for state-based peridynamic operators for isotropic homogeneous media in any spatial dimension. We provide explicit formulas for the eigenvalues in terms of the space dimension, the nonlocal parameters, and the material properties. The approach we follow is based on the Fourier multiplier analysis developed for the nonlocal Laplacian. The Fourier multipliers of linear peridynamic operators are second-order tensor fields, which are given through integral represen…
A general principle says that the matrix of a Fourier integral operator with respect to wave packets is concentrated near the curve of propagation. We prove a precise version of this principle for Fourier integral operators with a smooth phase and a symbol in the Sjoestrand class and use Gabor frames as wave packets. The almost diagonalization of such Fourier integral operators suggests a specific approximation by (a sum of) elementary operators, namely modified Gabor multipliers. We derive error estimates for such approximations. The methods are taken from time-frequency analysis.
In this paper we prove Lp multiplier theorems for invariant and non-invariant operators on compact Lie groups in the spirit of the well-known Hormander-Mikhlin theorem on Rn and its variants on tori Tn. We also give applications to a-priori estimates for non-hypoelliptic operators. Already in the case of tori we get an interesting refinement of the classical multiplier theorem.
We find optimal conditions on $m$-linear Fourier multipliers to give rise to bounded operators from a product of Hardy spaces $H^{p_j}$, $0<p_j\le 1$, to Lebesgue spaces $L^p$. The conditions we obtain are necessary and sufficient for boundedness and are expressed in terms of $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. Our results extend those obtained in the linear case ($m=1 $) by Calderón and Torchinsky [http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0001870877800169] and in the bilinear case ($m=2$) by Miyachi and Tomita [http://www.ems-ph.org/journals/show_abstract.php?issn=0213-2230&vol=29&iss=2&rank…
In this paper we investigate Besov spaces on graded Lie groups. We prove a Nikolskii type inequality (or the Reverse Hölder inequality) on graded Lie groups and as consequence we obtain embeddings of Besov spaces. We prove a version of the Littlewood-Paley theorem on graded Lie groups. The results are applied to obtain embedding properties of Besov spaces and multiplier theorems for both spectral and Fourier multipliers in Besov spaces on graded Lie groups. In particular, we give a number of sufficient conditions for the boundedness of Fourier multipliers in Besov spaces.
We investigate the boundedness of Fourier multipliers on a compact Lie group when acting on Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Criteria are given in terms of the Hörmander-Mihlin-Marcinkiewicz condition. In our analysis, we use the difference structure of the unitary dual of a compact Lie group. Our results cover the sharp Hörmander-Mihlin theorem on Lebesgue spaces and also other historical results on the subject.
We study polynomial and exponential stability for $C_{0}$-semigroups using the recently developed theory of operator-valued $(L^{p},L^{q})$ Fourier multipliers. We characterize polynomial decay of orbits of a $C_{0}$-semigroup in terms of the $(L^{p},L^{q})$ Fourier multiplier properties of its resolvent. Using this characterization we derive new polynomial decay rates which depend on the geometry of the underlying space. We do not assume that the semigroup is uniformly bounded, our results depend only on spectral properties of the generator. As a corollary of our work on polynomial stability …
The notion of invariant operators, or Fourier multipliers, is discussed for densely defined operators on Hilbert spaces, with respect to a fixed partition of the space into a direct sum of finite dimensional subspaces. As a consequence, given a compact manifold endowed with a positive measure, we introduce a notion of the operator's full symbol adapted to the Fourier analysis relative to a fixed elliptic operator. We give a description of Fourier multipliers, or of operators invariant relative to the elliptic operator. We apply these concepts to study Schatten classes of operators and to obtai…
We consider operator-valued boundary value problems in $(0,2π)^n$ with periodic or, more generally, $ν$-periodic boundary conditions. Using the concept of discrete vector-valued Fourier multipliers, we give equivalent conditions for the unique solvability of the boundary value problem. As an application, we study vector-valued parabolic initial boundary value problems in cylindrical domains $(0,2π)^n\times V$ with $ν$-periodic boundary conditions in the cylindrical directions. We show that under suitable assumptions on the coefficients, we obtain maximal $L^q$-regularity for such problems.
We give relatively simple sufficient conditions on a Fourier multiplier, so that it maps functions with the H$\ddot{o}$lder property with respect to a part of the variables to functions with the H$o$lder property with respect to all variables. With the using of these sufficient conditions we prove the solvability in H$\ddot{o}$lder classes of the initial-boundary value problems for the linearized Cahn-Hilliard equation with dynamic boundary conditions of two types. For the solutions of these problems Schauder estimates are obtained. The final expanded version of this paper is available at AIMS…
We study the continuity on the modulation spaces $M^{p,q}$ of Fourier multipliers with symbols of the type $e^{iμ(ξ)}$, for some real-valued function $μ(ξ)$. A number of results are known, assuming that the derivatives of order $\geq 2$ of the phase $μ(ξ)$ are bounded or, more generally, that its second derivatives belong to the Sjöstrand class $M^{\infty,1}$. Here we extend those results, by assuming that the second derivatives lie in the bigger Wiener amalgam space $W(\mathcal{F} L^1,L^\infty)$; in particular they could have stronger oscillations at infinity such as $\cos |ξ|^2$. Actually ou…
We provide characterizations for boundedness of multilinear Fourier operators on Hardy-Lebesgue spaces with symbols locally in Sobolev spaces. Let $H^q(\mathbb R^n)$ denote the Hardy space when $0<q\le 1$ and the Lebesgue space $L^q(\mathbb R^n)$ when $1<q\le \infty$. We find optimal conditions on $m$-linear Fourier multiplier operators to be bounded from $H^{p_1}\times \cdots \times H^{p_m}$ to $L^p$ when $1/p=1/p_1+\cdots +1/p_m$ in terms of local $L^2$-Sobolev space estimates for the symbol of the operator. Our conditions provide multilinear analogues of the linear results of Calderón and T…
This is a survey on a notion of invariant operators, or Fourier multipliers on Hilbert spaces. This concept is defined with respect to a fixed partition of the space into a direct sum of finite dimensional subspaces. In particular this notion can be applied to the important case of $L^2(M)$ where $M$ is a compact manifold $M$ endowed with a positive measure. The partition in this case comes from the spectral properties of a a fixed elliptic operator $E$.
In this note we study the $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of Fourier multipliers of anharmonic oscillators, and as a consequence also of spectral multipliers, for the range $1<p \leq 2 \leq q <\infty$. The underlying Fourier analysis is associated with the eigenfunctions of an anharmonic oscillator in some family of differential operators having derivatives of any order. Our analysis relies on a version of the classical Paley-type inequality, introduced by Hörmander, that we extend in our nonharmonic setting.
