The parallel-tempering method has been applied to numerically study the thermodynamic behavior of a three-dimensional disordered antiferromagnetic Ising model with random fields at spin concentrations corresponding to regions of both weak and strong structural disorder. An analysis of the low-temperature behavior of the model convincingly shows that in the case of a weakly disordered samples there is realized an antiferromagnetic ordered state, while in the region of strong structural disorder the effects of random magnetic fields lead to the realization of a new phase state of the system with a complex domain structure consisting of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic domains separated by regions of a spin-glass phase and characterized by a spinglass ground state.
Simulations of systems with quenched disorder are extremely demanding, suffering from the combined effect of slow relaxation and the need of performing the disorder average. As a consequence, new algorithms, improved implementations, and alternative and even purpose-built hardware are often instrumental for conducting meaningful studies of such systems. The ensuing demands regarding hardware availability and code complexity are substantial and sometimes prohibitive. We demonstrate how with a moderate coding effort leaving the overall structure of the simulation code unaltered as compared to a …
The theoretical information threshold for the planted clique problem is $2\log_2(N)$, however no polynomial algorithm is known to recover a planted clique of size $O(N^{1/2-ε})$, $ε>0$. In this paper we will apply a standard method for the analysis of disordered models, the Parallel-Tempering (PT) algorithm, to the clique problem, showing numerically that its time-scaling in the hard region is indeed polynomial for the analyzed sizes. We also apply PT to a different but connected model, the Sparse Planted Independent Set problem. In this situation thresholds should be sharper and finite size c…
The effects of dilution disorder and random-displacement disorder are analyzed for dipolar-coupled magnetic moments confined in a plane, which were originally placed on the square lattice. In order to distinguish the different phases, new order parameters are derived and parallel tempering Monte Carlo simulations are performed for a truncated dipolar Hamiltonian to obtain the phase diagrams for both types of disorder. We find that both dilution disorder and random-displacement disorder give similar phase diagrams, namely disorder at small enough temperatures favors a so-called microvortex phas…
We introduce a new disordered system, the Super-Potts model, which is a more frustrated version of the Potts glass. Its elementary degrees of freedom are variables that can take M values and are coupled via pair-wise interactions. Its exact solution on a completely connected lattice demonstrates that for large enough M it belongs to the class of mean-field systems solved by a one step replica symmetry breaking Ansatz. Numerical simulations by the parallel tempering technique show that in three dimensions it displays a phenomenological behaviour similar to the one of glass-forming liquids. The …
We demonstrate that a weak external magnetic field can induce negative magneto-thermal-resistance for magnons in a disordered two-dimensional antiferromagnet. We study the main effect of a weak external magnetic field on the longitudinal thermal conductivity, $κ_{xx}$, for a disordered antiferromagnet using the weak-localization theory for magnons. We show that the weak-localization correction term of $κ_{xx}$ positively increases with increasing the magnetic field parallel to the ordered spins. Since this increase corresponds to a decrease of the thermal resistivity, this phenomenon is negati…
We propose the weak localization of magnons in a disordered two-dimensional antiferromagnet. We derive the longitudinal thermal conductivity $κ_{xx}$ for magnons of a disordered Heisenberg antiferromagnet in the linear-response theory with the linear-spin-wave approximation. We show that the back scattering of magnons is enhanced critically by the particle-particle-type multiple impurity scattering. This back scattering causes a logarithmic suppression of $κ_{xx}$ with the length scale in two dimensions. We also argue a possible effect of inelastic scattering on the temperature dependence of $…
Strong Disorder Renormalization Group Method for Bond Disordered Antiferromagnetic Quantum Spin Chains with Long Range Interactions: Ground State Properties
Using the recently introduced adaptive density-matrix renormalization-group method, we study the many spin-spin correlations of the spin-$1/2$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with random coupling constants, namely, the mean value of the bulk and of the end-to-end correlations, the typical value of the bulk correlations, and the distribution of the bulk correlations. Our results are in striking agreement with the predictions of the strong-disorder renormalization group method. We do not find any hint of logarithmic corrections neither in the bulk average correlations, which were recently rep…
The chiral clock spin-glass model with q=5 states, with both competing ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic and left-right chiral frustrations, is studied in d=3 spatial dimensions by renormalization-group theory. The global phase diagram is calculated in temperature, antiferromagnetic bond concentration p, random chirality strength, and right-chirality concentration c. The system has a ferromagnetic phase, a multitude of different chiral phases, a chiral spin-glass phase, and a critical (algebraically) ordered phase. The ferromagnetic and chiral phases accumulate at the disordered phase boundary a…

We investigate the magnetic susceptibility $χ(T)$ of quantum spin chains of $N=1280$ spins with power-law long-range antiferromagnetic coupling as a function of their spatial decay exponent $α$ and cutoff length $ξ$. The calculations are based on the strong disorder renormalization method which is used to obtain the temperature dependence of $χ(T)$ and distribution functions of couplings at each renormalization step. For the case with only algebraic decay ($ ξ= \infty$) we find a crossover at $α^*=1.066$ between a phase with a divergent low-temperature susceptibility $χ(T\rightarrow 0) $ for $…
Renyi Mutual information (RMI), computed from second Renyi entropies, can identify classical phase transitions from their finite-size scaling at the critical points. We apply this technique to examine the presence or absence of finite temperature phase transitions in various two-dimensional models on a square lattice, which are extensions of the conventional Ising model by adding a quenched disorder. When the quenched disorder causes the nearest neighbor bonds to be both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic, (a) a spin glass phase exists only at zero temperature, and (b) a ferromagnetic phase e…
The Néel temperature, staggered magnetization density, as well as the spinwave velocity of a three-dimensional (3D) quantum Heisenberg model with antiferromagnetic disorder (randomness) are calculated using first principles non-perturbative quantum Monte Carlo simulations. In particular, we examine the validity of universal scaling relations that are related to these three studied physical quantities. These relations are relevant to experimental data and are firmly established for clean (regular) 3D dimerized spin-1/2 Heisenberg models. Remarkably, our numerical results show that the considere…
The quantum critical regime (QCR) of a two-dimensional (2D) disordered and a 2D clean dimerized spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg models are studied using the first principles nonperturbative quantum Monte Carlo simulations (QMC). In particular, the three well-known universal coefficients associated with QCR are investigated in detail. While in our investigation we find the obtained results are consistent with the related analytic predictions, non-negligible finite temperature ($T$) effects are observed. Such an influence from $T$ on the properties of the considered spin systems related to QCR has…
Disordered quantum antiferromagnets in two-dimensional compounds have been a focus of interest in the last years due to their exotic properties. However, with very few exceptions, the ground states of the corresponding Hamiltonians are notoriously difficult to simulate making their characterization and detection very elusive, both, theoretically and experimentally. Here we propose a method to signal quantum disordered antiferromagnets by doing exact diagonalization in small lattices using random boundary conditions and averaging the observables of interest over the different disorder realizati…
We examine the concurrence and entanglement entropy in quantum spin chains with random long-range couplings, spatially decaying with a power-law exponent $α$. Using the strong disorder renormalization group (SDRG) technique, we find by analytical solution of the master equation a strong disorder fixed point, characterized by a fixed point distribution of the couplings with a finite dynamical exponent, which describes the system consistently in the regime $α> 1/2$. A numerical implementation of the SDRG method yields a power law spatial decay of the average concurrence, which is also confirmed …
