Renyi entropies of a black hole are evaluated by counting the states of the Hawking radiation which fills a thin shell surrounding the horizon. The width of the shell is determined from its energy content and the corresponding mass defect. The Bekenstein-Hawking formula for the entropy of the black hole is correctly reproduced.

Newtonian gravitation with some slight modifications, along with some highly simplified ideas from quantum field theory allow us to reproduce, at least at the level of back-of-the-envelope calculations, many results of black hole physics. It is pointed out how replacing the entropy notion, but not the Hawking temperature and the thermodynamical energy may render the whole black hole thermodynamics inconsistent. We analytically study phase transitions of holographic charged Renyi entropies in two gravitational systems dual to the $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at finite density and zero temperature. I give some scalar field theory calculations on a d-dimensional lune of arbitrary angle, evaluating, numerically, the effective action which is expressed as a simple quadrature, for conformal coupling. Using this, the entanglement and Renyi entropies are computed. We present a unified description of temperature and entropy in spaces with either "true" or "accelerated observer" horizons: In their (higher dimensional) global embedding Minkowski geometries, the relevant detectors have constant accelerations a_{G}; associated with their Rindler horizons are temperature a_{G}/2πand entropy equal to 1/4 the horizon area. Both quantities agree with those calculated in the original curved spaces. We study Rényi entropies for geometries with Lifshitz scaling and hyperscaling violation. We calculate them for specific values of the Lifshitz parameter, and analyze the dual spectrum of the ground state. In the large $d-θ$ limit they show that the ground state is unique in specific parameter ranges. We also calculate the Rényi entropies perturbatively around $n=1$, and derive constraints using the Rényi entropy inequalities, which correspond to the thermodynamic stability of the black holes.
