We consider the analyzing power on a spin-0 nuclear target. This observable is related to the imaginary part of the two-photon-exchange (box) diagram. We consider the contributions of elastic and inelastic intermediate states. The former requires knowledge of the elastic nuclear form factor, while the latter uses the optical theorem as input. The elastic contribution scales as the nuclear charge $Z$, while the inelastic contribution as the ratio of the atomic number and nuclear charge, $A/Z$. We provide estimates for $^4$He and $^{208}$Pb, in the kinematics of existing or upcoming experiments. In both cases, we predict negative values of a few parts per million, and the dominant contribution is due to inelastic contributions. The analyzing power can contribute a substantial systematic error in parity-violating experiments.
The analyzing powers in proton-deuteron elastic and proton-neutron quasi-elastic scattering have been measured at small angles using a polarized proton beam at the COSY storage ring incident on an unpolarized deuterium target. The data were taken at 796MeV and five higher energies from 1600MeV to 2400MeV. The analyzing power in pd elastic scattering was studied by detecting the low energy recoil deuteron in telescopes placed symmetrically in the COSY plane to the left and right of the beam whereas for pn quasi-elastic scattering a low energy proton was registered in one of the telescopes in co…
We compute the vector analyzing power (VAP) for the elastic scattering of transversely polarized electrons from protons at low energies using an effective theory of electrons, protons, and photons. We study all contributions through second order in $E/M$, where $E$ and $M$ are the electron energy and nucleon mass, respectively. The leading order VAP arises from the imaginary part of the interference of one- and two-photon exchange amplitudes. Sub-leading contributions are generated by the nucleon magnetic moment and charge radius as well as recoil corrections to the leading-order amplitude. Wo…
Vector analyzing power for the proton-6He elastic scattering at 71 MeV/nucleon has been measured for the first time, with a newly developed polarized proton solid target working at low magnetic field of 0.09 T. The results are found to be incompatible with a t-matrix folding model prediction. Comparisons of the data with g-matrix folding analyses clearly show that the vector analyzing power is sensitive to the nuclear structure model used in the reaction analysis. The alpha-core distribution in 6He is suggested to be a possible key to understand the nuclear structure sensitivity.
The vector analyzing power has been measured for the elastic scattering of neutron-rich 6He from polarized protons at 71 MeV/nucleon making use of a newly constructed solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field and at high temperature. Two approaches based on local one-body potentials were applied to investigate the spin-orbit interaction between a proton and a 6He nucleus. An optical model analysis revealed that the spin-orbit potential for 6He is characterized by a shallow and long-ranged shape compared with the global systematics of stable nuclei. A semimicroscopic analys…
The vector analyzing power A_n is calculated for elastic electron scattering from a variety of spin zero nuclei at energies from 14 MeV to 3 GeV. Time reversal symmetry insures that A_n vanish in first Born approximation. Therefore A_n depends on Coulomb distortions and can be large for scattering from heavy nuclei. The vector analyzing power is a potential source of systematic error for parity violation experiments. We find that A_n=-0.361 ppm for the kinematics of the Parity Radius Experiment (PREX) involving 850 MeV electrons scattering at six degrees from 208Pb. This is comparable to the p…
We apply the cluster-folding (CF) model for $\vec{p}+^{6}$He scattering at 200 MeV, where the potential between $\vec{p}$ and $^{4}$He is fitted to data on $\vec{p}+^{4}$He scattering at 200 MeV. For $\vec{p}+^{6}$He scattering at 200 MeV, the CF model reproduces measured differential cross section with no free parameter, We then predict the analyzing power $A_y(q)$ with the CF model, where $q$ is the transfer momentum. Johnson, Al-Khalili and Tostevin construct a theory for one-neutron halo scattering, taking (1) the adiabatic approximation and (2) neglecting the interaction between a valence…
We present measurements of differential cross sections and the analyzing powers A_y, iT11, T20, T21, and T22 at E_c.m.=431.3 keV. In addition, an excitation function of iT11(theta_c.m.=87.8 degrees) for 431.3 <= E_c.m. <= 2000 keV is presented. These data are compared to calculations employing realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions, both with and without three-nucleon forces. Excellent agreement with the tensor analyzing powers and cross section is found, while the Ay and iT11 data are found to be underpredicted by the calculations.
Proton-${}^3$H elastic scattering and charge-exchange reaction ${}^3$H$(p,n){}^3$He in the energy regime above four-nucleon breakup threshold are described in the momentum-space transition operator framework. Fully converged results are obtained using realistic two-nucleon potentials and two-proton Coulomb force as dynamic input. Differential cross section, proton analyzing power, outgoing neutron polarization, and proton-to-neutron polarization transfer coefficients are calculated between 6 and 30 MeV proton beam energy. Good agreement with the experimental data is found for the differential …
The neutron-proton effective $k$-mass splitting in asymmetric nucleonic matter of isospin asymmetry $δ$ and normal density is found to be $m^{*}_{n-p}\equiv(m^{*}_{n}-m^{*}_{p})/m=(0.41 \pm0.15)δ$ from analyzing globally 1088 sets of reaction and angular differential cross sections of proton elastic scattering on 130 targets with beam energies from 0.783 MeV to 200 MeV, and 1161 sets of data of neutron elastic scattering on 104 targets with beam energies from 0.05 MeV to 200 MeV within an isospin dependent non-relativistic optical potential model. It sets a useful reference for testing model p…
Fully converged calculations of deuteron-deuteron elastic scattering observables are performed at energies above three- and four-body breakup threshold. Differential cross sections and analyzing powers are obtained using realistic nucleon-nucleon force models together with the Coulomb repulsion between protons. For all observables we find a very reasonable agreement with the available experimental data limited to deuteron beam energies up to 25.3 MeV.
Motivated by the fact that a polarized ${}^3$He nucleus behaves as an `effective' neutron target, we examine manifestations of neutron electromagnetic polarizabilities in elastic Compton scattering from the Helium-3 nucleus. We calculate both unpolarized and double-polarization observables using chiral perturbation theory to next-to-leading order (${\mathcal O}(e^2 Q)$) at energies, $ω\leq m_π$, where $m_π$ is the pion mass. Our results show that the unpolarized differential cross section can be used to measure neutron electric and magnetic polarizabilities, while two double-polarization obser…
Elastic scattering observables (differential cross section and analyzing power) are calculated for the reaction $^6$He(p,p)$^6$He at projectile energies starting at 71 MeV/nucleon. The optical potential needed to describe the reaction is derived describing $^6$He in terms of a $^4$He-core and two neutrons. The Watson first order multiple scattering ansatz is extended to accommodate the internal dynamics of a composite cluster model for the $^6$He nucleus scattering from a nucleon projectile. The calculations are compared with the recent experiments at the projectile energy of 71 MeV/nucleon. I…
We study the elastic scattering of polarized protons from He isotopes. The central and spin-orbit parts of the optical potential are derived using the Glauber theory that can naturally take account of the breakup effect of the He isotopes. Both the differential cross section and the vector analyzing power for $p+^{4,6,8}$He scattering at 71 MeV are in reasonable agreement with experiment. Scattering observables at 300 MeV are predicted. The Pauli blocking effect is examined at 71 MeV.
Pion elastic scattering on deuterium is studied in the KMT multiple scattering approach developed in momentum space. Using a Paris wave function and the same methods and approximations as commonly used in pion scattering on heavier nuclei excellent agreement with differential cross section data is obtained for a wide range of pion energies. Only for $T_π>250$ MeV and very backward angles, discrepancies appear that are reminiscent of disagreements in pion scattering on $^3$He, $^3$H, and $^4$He. At low energies the second order corrections have been included. Polarization observables are studie…
We present evidence that numerically accurate quantum calculations employing modern internucleon forces do not reproduce the proton analyzing power, A_y, for p-3He elastic scattering at low energies. These calculations underpredict new measured analyzing powers by approximately 30% at E_{c.m.} = 1.20 MeV and by 40% at E_{c.m.} = 1.69 MeV, an effect analogous to a well-known problem in p-d and n-d scattering. The calculations are performed using the complex Kohn variational principle and the (correlated) Hyperspherical Harmonics technique with full treatment of the Coulomb force. The inclusion …
The effects of relativistic kinematics are studied for nuclear collisions of equal mass nuclei. It is found that the relativistic and non-relativistic elastic scattering amplitudes are nearly indistinguishable, and, hence, the relativistic and non-relativistic differential cross sections become indistinguishable. These results are explained by analyzing the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with the first order optical potential that was employed in the calculation
We present theoretical predictions for electron scattering on oxygen and calcium isotopic chains. The calculations are done within the framework of the distorted-wave Born approximation and the proton and neutron density distributions are evaluated adopting a relativistic Dirac-Hartree model. We present results for the elastic and quasi-elastic cross sections and for the parity-violating asymmetry. As a first step, the results of the models are tested in comparison with some of the data available for elastic and quasi-elastic scattering on 16O and 40Ca nuclei. Then, the evolution of some nucle…
The differential cross sections and analyzing powers from the elastic scattering of 25 and 40 MeV protons from many nuclei have been studied. Analyses have been made using a fully microscopic model of proton-nucleus scattering seeking to establish a means appropriate for use in analyses of radioactive beam scattering from hydrogen with ion energies 25A and 40A MeV.
In recent WASA-at-COSY measurements of the basic double-pionic fusion reactions $pn \to dπ^0π^0$ and $pn \to dπ^+π^-$ a narrow resonance structure with $I(J^P) = 0(3^+)$ in the total cross section has been found. If this constitutes a s-channel resonance in the $pn$ system, then it should cause distinctive consequences in $pn$ scattering. The magnitude of the decay width into the $pn$ channel is estimated and the expected resonance effects in integral and differential $pn$ scattering observables are presented. The inclusion of the resonance improves the description of total cross section data.…
The elastic proton-deuteron backward reaction is analyzed within a covariant approach based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation with realistic meson-exchange interaction. Lorentz boost and other relativistic effects in the cross section and spin correlation observables, like tensor analyzing power and polarization transfer etc., are investigated in explicit form. Results of numerical calculations for a complete set of polarization observables are presented.
The neutron-deuteron (nd) scattering is solved in the Faddeev formalism, employing the energy-independent version of the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction fss2. The differential cross sections and the spin polarization of the elastic scattering up to the neutron incident energy $E_n=65$ MeV are well reproduced without reinforcing fss2 with the three-body force. The vector analyzing-power of the neutron, $A_y(θ)$, in the energy region $E_n$ < 25 MeV is largely improved in comparison with the predictions by the meson-exchange potentials, thus yielding a partial solution of the long-standing …
Parity nonconserving two-pion exchange in elastic pp scattering is investigated in the presence of phenomenological strong distortions in various models. Parity violation is included in the nucleon-pion vertex considering NN and N Delta(1232) intermediate states in box and crossed box diagrams. Using the derived parity nonconserving two-pion exchange potential we calculate the longitudinal analyzing power A_L in elastic $pp$ scattering. The predicted effect is of the same order as vector meson exchanges.
Vector analyzing powers for proton elastic scattering from 8He at 71 MeV/nucleon have been measured using a solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field of 0.1 T. The spin-orbit potential obtained from a phenomenological optical model analysis is found to be significantly shallower and more diffuse than the global systematics of stable nuclei, which is an indication that the spin-orbit potential is modified for scattering involving neutron-rich nuclei. A close similarity between the matter radius and the root-mean-square radius of the spin-orbit potential is also identified.
The elastic backward proton-deuteron scattering is analyzed including relativistic effects in the deuteron and the mechanism of this reaction which includes the graphs corresponding to the emission, rescattering and absorption of the virtual pion by a deuteron nucleon in addition to the one-nucleon exchange graph. It allows one to obtain a rather satisfactory description of all the experimental data on the differential cross section, tensor analyzing power of the deuteron and transfer polarization in this reaction.
Using a relativistic nuclear optical potential consisting of a Lorentz scalar, $V_{s}$, and the time-like component of a four-vector potential, $V_{0}$, we calculate elastic scattering differential cross sections and polarizations for $p+^{4}$He at intermediate energies for which experimental data are available. We also calculate the differential cross sections and analyzing powers for $p+^{6,8}$He at intermediate energies and compare with the few available experimental data.
Background: Theoretical calculations of the four-particle scattering above the four-cluster breakup threshold are technically very difficult due to nontrivial singularities or boundary conditions. Further complications arise when the long-range Coulomb force is present. Purpose: We aim at calculating proton-${}^3$He elastic scattering observables above three- and four-cluster breakup threshold. Methods: We employ Alt, Grassberger, and Sandhas (AGS) equations for the four-nucleon transition operators and solve them in the momentum-space framework using the complex-energy method whose accuracy a…
The tensor analyzing power $T_{20}$ and the polarization transfer coefficients $κ_0 (= 3/2 K_y^y)$ and $K_{xz}^y$ are investigated for dp backward elastic scattering by the invariant-amplitude method. Discrepancies between the conventional calculations and the experimental data on $T_{20}$ and $κ_0$ at high and intermediate energies are mostly dissolved by including imaginary parts in the amplitudes. The quantity $K_{xz}^y$ is shown to be useful in criticizing nuclear force assumptions.
For backward elastic scattering of deuterons by ^3He, cross sections σand tensor analyzing power T_{20} are measured at E_d=140-270 MeV. The data are analyzed by the PWIA and by the general formula which includes virtual excitations of other channels, with the assumption of the proton transfer from ^3He to the deuteron. Using ^3He wave functions calculated by the Faddeev equation, the PWIA describes global features of the experimental data, while the virtual excitation effects are important for quantitative fits to the T_{20} data. Theoretical predictions on T_{20}, K_y^y (polarization transfe…
The deuteron-proton elastic scattering has been studied in the multiple scattering expansion formalism. The essential attention has been given to such relativistic problem as a deuteron wave function in a moving frame and transformation of spin states due to Wigner rotation. Parameterization of the nucleon-nucleon $t$-matrix has been used to take the off-energy shell effects into account. The vector, $A_y,$ and tensor, $A_{yy}$, analyzing powers of the deuteron have been calculated at two deuteron kinetic energies: 395 MeV and 1200 MeV. The obtained results are compared with the experimental d…
The elastic backward proton-deuteron scattering is analyzed within a covariant approach based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation with realistic meson-exchange interaction. Contributions of the one-nucleon and one-pion exchange mechanisms to the cross section and polarization observables are investigated in explicit form. Results of numerical calculations for the cross section, tensor analyzing power and spin transfers are presented. The one-pion exchange contribution is essential for describing the spin averaged cross section, while in polarization observables it is found to be less important.
The parity nonconserving longitudinal analyzing power A_L is calculated in elastic pp scattering at the energies below the approximate inelastic region T_lab = 350 MeV. The short-ranged heavy meson rho and omega exchanges as well as the longer-ranged two pion exchanges are considered as the mediators of the parity nonconserving interactions. The DDH "best" coupling values are used as the parity nonconserving meson-NN couplings. Also three different parity nonconserving two-pion exchange potentials by various authors are compared.
General expressions for all parity-conserving polarization observables of elastic electron-nucleon scattering in the one-photon exchange approximation are derived for a general frame of reference, i.e.\ not assumming scattering off a nucleon at rest and not specializing to a specific system of coordinates. Essentially, the given expressions are also valid for the inverse process, i.e.\ nucleon scattering off electrons.
The elastic backward proton-deuteron scattering is analyzed within a covariant approach based on the invariant expansion of the reaction amplitude. The relativistic invariant equations for all the polarization observables are presented. Within the impulse approximation the relation of the tensor analyzing power $T_{20}$ and the polarization transfer $κ_0$ to $P$-wave components of the deuteron wave function is found. The comparison of the theoretical calculations with experimental data is presented. An experimental verification of the reaction mechanism is suggested by constructing some combin…
The elastic backward proton-deuteron scattering is analyzed including both relativistic effects in the deuteron and the reaction mechanism. It is shown that inclusion of the graphs corresponding to the emission, rescattering and absorption of the virtual pion by a deuteron nucleon in addition to the one-nucleon exchange graph allows a rather satisfactory description of all the experimental data on the differential cross section, tensor analyzing power of the deuteron and transfer polarization in this reaction.
The optical model potentials for nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering at $65$~MeV are calculated for $^{12}$C, $^{16}$O, $^{28}$Si, $^{40}$Ca, $^{56}$Fe, $^{90}$Zr and $^{208}$Pb in first order multiple scattering theory, following the prescription of the spectator expansion, where the only inputs are the free NN potentials, the nuclear densities and the nuclear mean field as derived from microscopic nuclear structure calculations. These potentials are used to predict differential cross sections, analyzing powers and spin rotation functions for neutron and proton scattering at 65 MeV projectile …
The use of quasi-elastic electron nucleus scattering is shown to provide significant constraints on models of the proton electromagnetic form factor of off-shell nucleons. Such models can be constructed to be consistent with constraints from current conservation and low-energy theorems, while also providing a contribution to the Lamb shift that might potentially resolve the proton radius puzzle in muonic hydrogen. However, observations of quasi-elastic scattering limit the overall strength of the off-shell form factors to values that correspond to small contributions to the Lamb shift.
We present a detailed study of the effect of different three-nucleon interaction models in p-3He elastic scattering at low energies. In particular, two models have been considered: one derived from effective field theory at next-to-next-to-leading order and one derived from a more phenomenological point of view -- the so-called Illinois model. The four-nucleon scattering observables are calculated using the Kohn variational principle and the hyperspherical harmonics technique and the results are compared with available experimental data. We have found that the inclusion of either one of the ot…
The sensitivity of nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering observables to the off-shell structure of nucleon-nucleon t-matrices, derived from realistic NN potentials, is investigated within the context of a full-folding model based on the impulse approximation. Our study uses recently developed NN potential models, which describe a subset of the NN data base with a $χ^2$ per datum $\sim$1, which means that the NN t-matrices are essentially on-shell equivalent. We calculate proton-nucleus elastic scattering observables for $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, and $^{208}$Pb between 100 and 200 MeV laboratory energy…
We investigate the importance of the three-nucleon (3N) force contact terms in elastic nucleon-deuteron (Nd) scattering by applying the N$^4$LO$^+$ chiral semi-local momentum space (SMS) regularized nucleon-nucleon (NN) chiral potential supplemented by N$^2$LO and all subleading N$^4$LO three-nucleon force (3NF) contact terms. Strength parameters of the contact terms were obtained by least squares fitting of theoretical predictions to cross section and analyzing powers data at three energies of the impinging nucleon. Although the N$^3$LO contributions to the 3N force were completely neglected,…
Elastic scattering is a very important process to understand nuclear interactions in finite nuclei. Despite decades of efforts, the goal of reaching a coherent description of this physical process in terms of microscopic forces is still far from being completed. In previous papers (Phys. Rev. C93, 034619 (2016), Phys. Rev. C96, 044001 (2017)) we derived a nonrelativistic theoretical optical potential from nucleon-nucleon chiral potentials at fourth (N3LO) and fifth order (N4LO). We checked convergence patterns and established theoretical error bands. With this work we study the performances of…
The theory of quasi-elastic inclusive scattering of polarized leptons off polarized $^3$He is critically reviewed and the origin of different expressions for the polarized nuclear response function appearing in the literature is explained. The sensitivity of the longitudinal asymmetry upon the neutron form factors is thoroughly investigated and the role played by the polarization angle for minimizing the proton contribution is illustrated.
We calculate polarization phenomena for virtual Compton scattering on protons, at relatively large momentum transfer 1 GeV$^2$ $\le -q^2\le$ 5 GeV$^2$ on the basis of a model for $γ^*+ p\to γ+p$ with two main contributions: $π^0$-exchange in $t-$channel and $Δ$-excitation in $s$-channel. This model applies from threshold to $Δ$ region. The parameters entering in this model, such as coupling constants and electromagnetic form factors are well known. The analyzing powers for $γ^*+\vec p\to γ+ p$ and the components of the final proton polarization in $γ^*+ p\to γ+ \vec p$ are large in absolute va…
Elastic electron-3He scattering is studied in the relativistic impulse approximation. The amplitudes for the three-nucleon system - 3He - are obtained by solving the relativistic generalization of the Faddeev equation. The charge and magnetic form factor are calculated and compared with the experimental data for the momentum transfer squared up to 100 fm-2. The influence of the various nucleon form factors is investigated.
Inclusive quasi-elastic electron scattering off nuclei is investigated at high momentum transfer (Q^2>1 (GeV/c)^2) and x>1 adopting a consistent treatment of nucleon-nucleon correlations in initial and final states. It is shown that in case of light as well as complex nuclei the inclusive cross section at 1.3<x<2 is dominated by the absorption of the virtual photon on a pair of correlated nucleons and by their elastic rescattering in the continuum, whereas at x>2 it is governed by the rescattering of the outgoing off-mass-shell nucleon in the complex optical potential generated by the ground s…
Microscopic calculations of four-body collisions become very challenging in the energy regime above the threshold for four free particles. The neutron-${}^3$He scattering is an example of such process with elastic, rearrangement, and breakup channels. We aim to calculate observables for elastic and inelastic neutron-${}^3$He reactions up to 30 MeV neutron energy using realistic nuclear force models. We solve the Alt, Grassberger, and Sandhas (AGS) equations for the four-nucleon transition operators in the momentum-space framework. The complex-energy method with special integration weights is a…
Elastic scattering observables (differential cross section and analyzing power) are calculated for the reaction $^6$He(p,p)$^6$He at projectile energies starting at 71 MeV/nucleon. The optical potential needed to describe the reaction is based on a microscopic Watson first-order folding potential, which explicitly takes into account that the two neutrons outside the $^4$He-core occupy an open p-shell. The folding of the single-particle harmonic oscillator density matrix with the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix leads for this case to new terms not present in traditional folding optical potentials for …
Recent JLab experimental data on quasi elastic 3He(e,e'p)2H(pn) and 4He(e,e'p)3H processes are interpreted using an approach based upon realistic wave functions and Glauber multiple scattering theory within a generalized eikonal approximation (GEA). The results of a non factorized calculation of the left-right asymmetry A_{TL} of the process 3He(e,e'p)2H, obtained using the full covariant form of the electromagnetic operator, are also presented.
We show a relationship between elastic electron scattering observables and the elastic neutrino cross section that provides a straightforward determination of the latter from experimental data of the former and relates their uncertainties. An illustration of this procedure is presented using a Hartree-Fock mean field for the nuclear structure of a set of even-even nuclear targets, using the spectra of the neutrinos produced in pion decay at rest. We also analyze the prospects to measure the incoherent axial contribution to the neutrino elastic scattering in odd targets.
Electron scattering will provide the most direct information about charge distribution in exotic nuclei. A technical proposal for an electron-heavy-ion collider has been incorporated in the GSI/Germany physics program (spokesperson: Haik Simon - GSI). The main purpose is to study the structure of nuclei far from the stability line. In this work I explore the possibilities to study charge distributions of nuclei far form the stability line with the proposed facility.
We discuss two-photon exchange (TPE) in elastic electron scattering off the trinucleon systems, 3He and 3H. The calculations are done in the semirelativistic approximation with the trinucleon wave functions obtained with the Paris and CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potentials. An applicability area of the model is wide enough and includes the main part of kinematical domain where experimental data exist. All three TPE amplitudes (generalized form factors) for electron 3He elastic scattering are calculated. We find that the TPE amplitudes are few times more significant in the scattring of electrons of…

A parton picture of inclusive quasi-elastic electron-nucleus scattering, where individual nucleons are treated as (non point-like) partons of the nucleus, is presented. All the necessary target-mass corrections to asymptotic scaling are evaluated and a new scaling variable is obtained. Recent inclusive data from Jefferson Lab are analyzed and shown to scale in terms of the new variable. The new approach allows to extract in a model-independent way the nucleon light-cone momentum distribution in the nucleus.
The elastic backward proton-deuteron scattering is analyzed within a fully covariant approach based on the invariant expansion of the reaction amplitude. The method of calculation of any observables for any reaction mechanism is developed. The cross section and spin observables, like tensor analyzing power and polarization transfer coefficient etc., are investigated in explicit form within framework of the impulse approximation using different kinds of the relativistic deuteron wave function (DWF) with P-wave components. Our results of numerical calculation for complete set of polarization obs…
The quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrino and electrons on a carbon target are analyzed using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation (RDWIA). We also evaluate the contribution of the two-particle and two-hole meson exchange current ($2p-2h$ MEC) to electroweak response functions. The nuclear model dependence of the (anti)neutrino cross sections is studied within the RDWIA+MEC approach and RDWIA model with the large nucleon axial mass. It is shown that the results for the squared momentum transfer distribution $dσ/dQ^2$ and for invariant mass of the final hadronic system dist…
We formulate microscopic neutron-nucleus optical potentials from many-body perturbation theory based on chiral two- and three-body forces. The neutron self energy is first calculated in homogeneous matter to second order in perturbation theory, which gives the central real and imaginary terms of the optical potential. The real spin-orbit term is calculated separately from the density matrix expansion using the same chiral interaction as in the self energy. Finally, the full neutron-nucleus optical potential is derived within the improved local density approximation utilizing mean field models …
The driving terms in three-body theories of elastic and inelastic scattering of a charged particle off a bound state of two other charged particles contain the fully off-shell two-body Coulomb T-matrix describing the intermediate-state Coulomb scattering of the projectile with each of the charged target particles. Up to now the latter is usually replaced by the Coulomb potential, either when using the multiple-scattering approach or when solving three-body integral equations. General properties of the exact and the approximate on-shell driving terms are discussed, and the accuracy of this appr…
Flux-averaged and flux-integrated cross sections for quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current scattering on nucleus are analyzed. It is shown that the flux-integrated differential cross sections are nuclear model-independent. We calculate these cross sections using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation and relativistic Fermi gas model with the Booster Neutrino Beamline flux and compare results with the recent MiniBooNE experiment data. Within these models an axial mass $M_A$ is extracted from a fit of the measured $dσ/dQ^2$ cross section. The extracted value of $M_A$ is consisten…
