Full Faddeev-type calculations are performed for $^{11}$Be breakup on proton target at 38.4, 100, and 200 MeV/u incident energies. The convergence of the multiple scattering expansion is investigated. The results are compared with those of other frameworks like Distorted Wave Impulse Approximation that are based on an incomplete and truncated multiple scattering expansion.
We study the hyperon-nucleus potential with distorted wave impulse wave approximation (DWIA) using Green's function method. In order to include the nucleon and hyperon potential effects in Fermi averaging, we introduce the local optimal momentum approximation of target nucleons. We can describe the quasi free Lambda, Sigma and Xi production spectra in a better way than in the standard Fermi averaged t-matrix treatments.
Recoil nucleon transferred polarization observables in coincidence quasielastic electron scattering are studied within the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation. Results for response functions and polarization asymmetries are discussed for proton knockout from $p_{1/2}$, $p_{3/2}$ and $s_{1/2}$ shells in $^{16}$O. The impact of spinor distortion is examined by comparing the fully relativistic calculation with results obtained by projecting out the negative-energy components. In particular, a careful analysis of effects linked to the description of the bound and scattered relativist…
We present a formalism of distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA) for analyzing spin observables in nucleon inelastic and charge exchange reactions leading to the continuum. It utilizes response functions calculated by the continuum random phase approximation (RPA), which include the effective mass, the spreading widths and the Δdegrees of freedom. The Fermi motion is treated by the optimal factorization, and the non-locality of the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix by an averaged reaction plane approximation. By using the formalism we calculated the spin-longitudinal and the spin-transverse cross …
We assess the combined effect of ground-state correlations, meson-exchange and isobar currents upon the cross sections for quasielastic (e,e'p) reactions from nuclei. Four-momenta in the range 0.1 \leq Q^2 \leq 1 GeV^2 are addressed. We observe that for $Q^2$ values exceeding 0.2 GeV^2, quasielastic conditions and missing momenta below the Fermi momentum, the ground-state correlations and two-body currents do not dramatically alter the $(e,e'p)$ predictions as they are obtained in the impulse approximation. Moreover, deviations from the impulse approximation exhibit a rather modest Q^2 depende…
Both ($e$,$e'p$) and ($p$,$2p$) reactions have been performed to study the proton single-particle character of nuclear states with its related spectroscopic factor. Recently, the dispersive optical model (DOM) was applied to the ($e$,$e'p$) analysis revealing that the traditional treatment of the single-particle overlap function, distorted waves, and nonlocality must be further improved to achieve quantitative nuclear spectroscopy. We apply the DOM wave functions to the traditional ($p$,$2p$) analysis and investigate the consistency of the DOM spectroscopic factor that describes the ($e$,$e'p$…
We study coherent eta-photoproduction from nuclei in a relativistic impulse approximation approach. For the elementary production amplitude we use a standard relativistic parameterization based on a set of four Lorentz- and gauge-invariant amplitudes. The photonuclear amplitude is evaluated without recourse to a nonrelativistic reduction; the full relativistic structure of the amplitude is maintained. On general arguments we show that the coherent process is sensitive to only one of the elementary amplitudes. Moreover, we show that the nuclear structure information is fully contained in the gr…
The nonlocal implementation of the dispersive optical model (DOM) provides all the ingredients for distorted-wave impulse-approximation (DWIA) calculations of the $(e,e'p)$ reaction. It provides both the overlap function, including its normalization, and the outgoing proton distorted wave. This framework is applied to describe the knockout of a proton from the $0\textrm{d}\frac{3}{2}$ and $1\textrm{s}\frac{1}{2}$ orbitals in ${}^{40}$Ca with fixed normalizations of 0.71 and 0.60, respectively. Data were obtained in parallel kinematics for three outgoing proton energies: 70, 100, and 135 MeV. A…
Semiclassical distorted wave model is developed to describe $(π^-,K^+)$ inclusive spectra related to $Σ^-$-formation measured at KEK with $p_π=1.2$ GeV/c. The shape and magnitude of the spectrum on $^{28}$Si target are satisfactorily reproduced by a repulsive $Σ$-nucleus potential, the strength of which is of the order of 30$\sim$50 MeV. This strength is not so strong as more than 100 MeV suggested by the estimation presented in the report of the experiment.
Background: Proton-induced nucleon knockout $(p,pN)$ reactions have been successfully used to study the single-particle nature of stable nuclei in normal kinematics with the distorted-wave impulse approximation (DWIA) framework. Recently, these reactions have been applied to rare-isotope beams at intermediate energies in inverse kinematics to study the quenching of spectroscopic factors. Purpose: Our goal is to investigate the effects of various corrections and uncertainties within the standard DWIA formalism on the $(p,pN)$ cross sections. The consistency of the extracted reduction factors be…
The impulse approximation of pion production reactions is studied by developing a relativistic formalism, consistent with that used to define the nucleon-nucleon potential. For plane wave initial states we find that the usual one-body (1B) expression O_1B is replaced by O_2B=-iK(m_pi/2)O_1B/m_pi, where K(m_pi/2) is the sum of all irreducible contributions to nucleon-nucleon scattering with energy transfer of m_pi/2. We show that O_2B is approximately O_1B for plane wave initial states. For distorted waves, we find that the usual operator is replaced with a sum of two-body operators that are we…
A relativistic Green's function and a distorted-wave impulse-approximation approach to charged- and neutral-current neutrino-nucleus quasielastic scattering are developed. Results for the neutrino (antineutrino) reactions on $^{16}$O and $^{12}$C target nuclei are presented and discussed.
The charged-current quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrino on oxygen target is computed for neutrino energy between 200 MeV and 2.5 GeV using different approximations: the Plane Wave Impulse Approximation (PWIA), the Relativistic Distorted Wave Impulse Approximation with relativistic optical potential (RDWIA), and the Relativistic Fermi Gas Model (RFGM). The comparison with RFGM, which is widely used in data analyses of neutrino experiments, shows that the RFGM fails completely when applied to exclusive cross section data and leads to overestimated values of inclusive and total cross sectio…
We study theoretically how we can determine the neutron density distributions of unstable nuclei from proton elastic scattering. We apply the relativistic impulse model to study the sensitivities of the observables to the density distributionswhich are expressed in Woods-Saxon form. We find that the both radius and diffuseness of densities can be determined from restricted elastic scattering data in principle. We think this result is helpful to design future experiments.
A relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation model for electron-induced one proton knockout reactions and a Green's function approach to inclusive scattering are developed. Results for (e,e'p) and (e,e') reactions are presented in various kinematical conditions and compared (when possible) with nonrelativistic calculations.
A relativistic distorted-wave impulse-approximation model is applied to neutral-current and charged-current quasi-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering. The effects of final state interactions are investigated and the sensitivity of the results to the strange nucleon form factors is discussed in view of their possible experimental determination
We investigate the role of higher multipole excitations in the electromagnetic dissociation of one-neutron halo nuclei within two different theoretical models -- a finite range distorted wave Born approximation and another in a more analytical method with a finite range potential. We also show, within a simple picture, how the presence of a weakly bound state affects the breakup cross section.
We investigate theoretically $Λ$ production spectra of $^3$He($π$, $K$) reactions at $p_π=$ 1.05--1.20 GeV/$c$ in the distorted-wave impulse approximation, using the continuum-discretized coupled-channel method. The production cross section of a $^3_Λ$H(1/2$^+$) ground state is also discussed.
Nuclear transparency in (e,e'p) reactions is evaluated in a fully relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation model. The relativistic mean field theory is used for the bound state and the Pauli reduction for the scattering state, which is calculated from a relativistic optical potential. Results for selected nuclei are displayed in a Q^2 range between 0.3 and 1.8 (GeV/c)^2 and compared with recent electron scattering data. For Q^2 = 0.3 (GeV/c)^2 the results are lower than data; for higher Q^2 they are in reasonable agreement with data. The sensitivity of the model to different prescript…
The formalism to describe electron scattering reactions on two-neutron halo nuclei is developed. The halo nucleus is described as a three-body system (core+n+n), and the wave function is obtained by solving the Faddeev equations in coordinate space. We discuss elastic and quasielastic scattering using the impulse approximation to describe the reaction mechanism. We apply the method to investigate the case of electron scattering on $^6$He. Spectral functions, response functions, and differential cross sections are calculated for both neutron knockout and $α$ knockout by the electron.
Nuclear model effects in neutrino-nucleus quasielastic scattering are studied within the distorted wave impulse approximation, using a relativistic shell model to describe the nucleus, and comparing it with the relativistic Fermi gas. Both charged-current and neutral-current processes are considered and, for the neutral-current case, the uncertainties that nuclear effects may introduce in measurements of the axial strange form-factor of the nucleon are investigated.
The role of the sea quarks to ground state nucleon properties with electroweak probes is discussed. A relativistic Green's function approach to parity violating electron scattering and a distorted-wave impulse-approximation applied to charged- and neutral-current neutrino-nucleus quasi-elastic scattering are presented in view of the possible determination of the strangeness content of the nucleon.
A relativistic distorted-wave impulse-approximation model to quasielastic neutral-current neutrino-nucleus scattering is developed, using the relativistic mean field theory for the bound state and taking into account the final state interaction in the relativistic scattering state. Results for the neutrino (antineutrino) reaction on 12C target nucleus are presented in an energy range between 500 and 1000 MeV. The sensitivity to the strange quark content of the axial-vector form factor is discussed.
Finite Formation Time (FFT) effects in the exclusive reaction ^4He(e,e'p)^3H at high values of Q^2 are introduced and discussed. It is shown that the minimum in the momentum distributions predicted by the Plane Wave Impulse Approximation (PWIA), which is filled by the Glauber-type Final State Interaction (FSI), is completely recovered when FFT effects are taken into account. The semi-inclusive process ^4 He(e,e'p)X is also investigated.
In this paper we address the adequacy of various approximate methods of including Coulomb distortion effects in (e,e') reactions by comparing to an exact treatment using Dirac-Coulomb distorted waves. In particular, we examine approximate methods and analyses of (e,e') reactions developed by Traini et al. using a high energy approximation of the distorted waves and phase shifts due to Lenz and Rosenfelder. This approximation has been used in the separation of longitudinal and transverse structure functions in a number of (e,e') experiments including the newly published 208Pb(e,e') data from Sa…
Shell model wave functions have been used to form microscopic g-folding optical potentials with which elastic scattering data from 8He, 10,11C, and 18,20,22O scattering on hydrogen has been analyzed. Those potentials, the effective two-nucleon interaction used in their formation, and the shell model details, then have been used in distorted wave approximation calculations of differential cross sections from inelastic scattering to the first excited states of five of those radioactive ions.
A microscopic study of proton elastic scattering from unstable nuclei at intermediate energies using a relativistic formalism is presented. We have employed both the original relativistic impulse approximation (IA1) and the generalised impulse approximation (IA2) formalisms to calculate the relativistic optical potentials, with target densities derived from relativistic mean field (RMF) theory using the NL3 and FSUGold parameter sets. Comparisons between the optical potentials computed using both IA1 and IA2 formalisms, and the different RMF Lagrangians are presented for both stable and unstab…
We investigate theoretically production cross sections of the $J^π=$ 0$^+$ ground state of a $^4_Λ$He hypernucleus in the $^4$He($π$,~$K$) reaction with a distorted-wave impulse approximation using the optimal Fermi-averaged $πN\to KΛ$ $t$ matrix. We demonstrate the sensitivity of the production cross sections to the $Λ$ wavefunctions obtained from $3N$-$Λ$ potentials and to meson distorted waves in eikonal distortions. It is shown that the calculated laboratory cross sections of the 0$^+$ ground state in $^4_Λ$He amount to $dσ/dΩ_{\rm lab} \simeq$ 11 $μ$b/sr at $p_π=$ 1.05 GeV/$c$ in the $K$ …
A relativistic distorted-wave impulse-approximation model is applied to quasi-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering. The bound state is obtained in the framework of the relativistic mean field theory and the final state interaction is taken into account in the scattering state. Results for the charged- and neutral-current neutrino (antineutrino) reactions on $^{12}$C target nucleus are presented and the sensitivity of various quantities to the strange quark content of the nucleon weak current is discussed.
We study the evolution of the \eep cross section on nuclei with increasing asymmetry between the number of neutrons and protons. The calculations are done within the framework of the nonrelativistic and relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation. In the nonrelativistic model phenomenological Woods-Saxon and Hartree-Fock wave functions are used for the proton bound-state wave functions, in the relativistic model the wave functions are solutions of Dirac-Hartree equations. The models are first tested against experimental data on $^{40}$Ca and $^{48}$Ca nuclei, and then they are applied to…
During last 20 years there was revealed and published the phenomenon of the appearing of the time advance instead of the time delay at the region of a compound-nucleus resonance, distorted by the non-resonant background (in the center-of-mass (C-) system). This phenomenon is usually accompanied by a minimum in the cross section near the same energy. Here we analyze the cross section and the time delay of the nucleon-nucleus scattering in the laboratory (L-) system. In the L-system the delay-advance phenomenon does not appear. We use and concretize the non-standard analytical transformations of…
We investigate the sensitivity of the differential cross section, recoil nucleon polarization and the photon asymmetry to changes in the elementary amplitude, medium modifications of the resonance $(S_{11},D_{13})$ masses, as well as nuclear target effects. All calculations are performed within a relativistic plane wave impulse approximation formalism resulting in analytical expressions for all observables. The spin observables are shown to be unique tools to study subtle effects that are not accessible by only looking at the unpolarized differential cross section.
Coulomb corrections for quasi-elastic scattering of electrons by nuclei are calculated using eikonal distorted waves. Corrections to the lowest-order eikonal approximation are included in order to obtain accurate results. Spin-dependent eikonal phase shifts are evaluated and they yield very small corrections to the longitudinal and transverse cross sections at electron energies of 500 MeV or higher. Because of this the Rosenbluth procedure is accurate for separation of the longitudinal and transverse response functions. The effective-momentum approximation is also found to be accurate with reg…
Coherent pi0 photo- and electroproduction on 4He and 12C nuclei is investigated in the framework of a distorted wave impulse approximation in momentum space. The elementary process is described by the recently developed unitary isobar model. Medium effects are considered by introducing a phenomenological Delta self-energy. The recent experimental data for 4He and 12C can be well described over a wide range of energies and emission angles by the assumption that the Delta-nuclear interaction saturates.
A theoretical description of nucleon knockout reactions initiated by polarized electron scattering from polarized nuclei is presented. Explicit expressions for the complete set of reduced response functions (independent of the polarization angle) that can be experimentally obtained assuming plane waves for the electron are given in a general multipole expansion. The formalism is applied to the particular case of closed-shell-minus-one nuclei using two models for the ejected nucleon, including the final-state interaction phenomenologically with a complex optical potential and in the factorized …
The influence of the Coulomb distortion for quasi-elastic (e,e') scattering on highly charged nuclei is investigated in distorted wave Born approximation for electrons. The Dirac equation is solved numerically in order to obtain exact electron continuum states in the electrostatic field generated by the charge distribution of an atomic nucleus. Different approximate models are used to describe the nucleon current in order to show that, at high electron energies and energy-momentum transfer, the influence of Coulomb distortions on (e,e') cross sections can be reliably described by the effective…
We report calculations for exclusive pion photoproduction on nuclei beyond the first resonance region in the distorted wave impulse approximation. The elementary operator contains contributions from the resonances $P_{33}(1232)$, $P_{11}(1440)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, $D_{33}(1740)$, $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, and $F_{15}(1680)$, in addition to the usual Born plus vector meson contributions. It gives a good description of single pion photoproduction data up to about 1.1 GeV. Final state interactions are incorporated via optical potentials and are found to be substantial in the coincidence cross …
The relevance of the continuum effects in transfer reactions is discussed in conection with the determination of observables of astrophysical interest. In particular, we examine the validity of the Distorted Wave Born Approximation (DWBA) as a tool to extract the astrophysical \emph{(S_{17}(0))} factor. For this purpose, we present calculations for the reaction (^{14})N((^{7} )Be,(^{8})B)(^{13})C comparing the DWBA method with the more sophysticated CDCC-Born approximation
Coherent Compton scattering on light nuclei in the delta resonance region is studied in the impulse approximation and is shown to be a sensitive probe of the in-medium properties of the delta resonance. The elementary amplitude on a single nucleon is calculated from the unitary K-matrix approach developed previously. Modifications of the properties of the delta resonance due to the nuclear medium are accounted for through the self-energy operator of the delta, calculated from the one-pion loop. The dominant medium effects such as the Pauli blocking, mean-field modification of the nucleon and d…
We propose to extend the optimal Fermi averaging procedure theoretically in order to calculate an in-medium $K^-n\to π^- Λ$ amplitude for the exothermic ($K^-$, $π^-$) reaction on nuclei in the framework of a distorted-wave impulse approximation, taking into account the local momentum transfer generated by semiclassical distorted waves for $K^-$ and $π^-$ mesons. Angular distributions for the $^{12}$C($K^-$, $π^-$)$^{12}_Λ$C reaction in which a momentum transfer is $q \lesssim$ 80 MeV/$c$ at $p_K=$ 800 MeV/$c$ in the $π^-$ forward direction, are estimated by applying the extended procedure. Th…
Linear combinations $D_K$ of the complete polarization-transfer observables, Dij, in the (p,p') reaction at intermediate energies are demonstrated. A comparison between systematized measured and calculated values of the combinations $D_K$ for the $1^+$ (T = 0 and T = 1) levels in $^{12}$C, for the $4^-$ (T = 0 and T = 1) states in $^{16}$O, and for the $6^-$ (T = 0 and T = 1) levels in $^{28}$Si are reported. Particularities in angular distributions of transverse- and longitudinal-spin-transfer probabilities, $D_K$, for the T = 0 and T = 1 unnatural-parity states in the indicated nuclei are di…
We study the occurrence of factorization in polarized and unpolarized observables in coincidence quasi-elastic electron scattering. Starting with the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation, we reformulate the effective momentum approximation and show that the latter leads to observables which factorize under some specific conditions. Within this framework, the role played by final state interactions and, in particular, by the spin-orbit term is explored. Connection with the nonrelativistic formalism is studied in depth. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the analytical de…
We report on calculation of the $Λ$ - hypernuclear production induced by the stopped $K^-$. The calculation was performed within the framework of the distorted wave impulse approximation and employed chirally motivated model for the microscopic description of the elementary $K^-$-nucleon process. The sensitivity of the calculation was tested with various wave functions of both the kaon in the initial state and the pion in the final state. Our results are closer to the experimental values then the results of previous calculations.
We present a microscopic calculation of the 6He beta-decay into the ground state of 6Li. To this end we use the impulse approximation to describe the nuclear weak current. The ground state wave functions are obtained from the solution of the nuclear 6-body problem. The nucleonnucleon interaction is described via the J-matrix inverse scattering potential (JISP), and the nuclear problem is solved using the hyperspherical-harmonics approach. This approach results in numerical accuracy of about 2 per mil in the transition matrix element. Bearing in mind that the contribution of meson-exchange curr…
We propose an optimal Fermi-averaging for an elementary $π^+$+$n$$\to$$K^+$+$Λ$ t-matrix under the on-energy-shell condition, in order to describe ($π^+$,$K^+$) reactions on a nuclear target in the framework of a distorted-wave impulse approximation. We apply it to calculate $Λ$ quasi-free spectra from $^{12}$C($π^+$,$K^+$) reactions at $p_π$= 1.20 GeV/c and 1.05 GeV/c, and compare them with experimental data. The results show that the calculated spectra are in excellent agreement with the data, because the energy-dependence originates from the nature of the optimal Fermi-averaging t-matrix.
The partial-wave expansion used to treat the distortion of scattered electrons by the nuclear Coulomb field is simpler and considerably less time-consuming when applied to the production of muons and electrons by low and intermediate-energy neutrinos. For angle-integrated cross sections, however, a modification of the "effective-momentum-transfer" approximation seems to work so well that for muons the full distorted-wave treatment is usually unnecessary, even at kinetic energies as low as an MeV and in nuclei as heavy as lead. The method does not work as well for electron production at low ene…
Halo nuclei projectiles can undergo into a fragmentation process when scattered by a nucleus target. The corresponding core from exotic nuclei is usually observed while the others fragments of the reaction are not. We use the recently proposed theory by [Phys. Lett. B767, 53 (2017)] with a four-body description of the inclusive breakup reaction where the projectile is 20C described like a two-neutron halo nucleus. The momentum of both neutrons are integrated out giving a generic description of the core angular distribution. In this preliminary study we perform an analysis of the inclusive inel…

Using a fully quantum mechanical post-form finite-range distorted-wave Born approximation theory of Coulomb breakup, I study the parallel momentum distribution of the core in the Coulomb breakup of suggested excited-state one-neutron halo nuclei considered in their different bound excited states. Narrow momentum distributions obtained in the present calculations for some cases indicate the possibilities of the excited-state halo structure in the nuclei under consideration and therefore favor the previous predictions.
We review the current status of obtaining the spectroscopic information on the one-neutron halo nuclei from the Coulomb breakup reactions. The theory of these reactions formulated in the framework of the Distorted Wave Born Approximation, allows the use of the realistic wave functions corresponding to any orbital angular momentum structure for the core-valence neutron relative motion in the ground state of the projectile. The energy, angular and parallel momentum distributions of the projectile fragments calculated within this theory are selective about the ground state wave function of the pr…
The phenomenon of superscaling for quasielastic lepton induced reactions at energies of a few GeV is investigated within the framework of the relativistic impulse approximation. A global analysis of quasielastic inclusive electron and charged-current neutrino scattering reactions on nuclei is presented. Scaling and superscaling properties are shown to emerge from both types of processes. The crucial role played by final state interactions is evaluated by using different approaches. The asymmetric shape presented by the experimental scaling function, with a long tail in the region of positive v…
We consider the Generalized Parton Distributions for spin-1 nuclei in general and on the deuteron in particular. We use the impulse approximation to obtain a convolution model for them. Sum rules are used to check the validity of the approach and to estimate the importance of higher Fock-space states in the deuteron. Numerical predictions for the Beam Spin Asymmetry in deeply virtual Compton scattering are presented.
We study the evolution of the (e,e'p) cross section on nuclei with increasing asymmetry between the number of neutrons and protons. The calculations are done within the framework of the distorted-wave impulse approximation, by adopting nonrelativistic and relativistic models. We compare the results obtained with three different approaches based on the mean-field description for the proton bound state wave function. In the nonrelativistic model phenomenological Woods-Saxon and Hartree-Fock wave functions are used, in the relativistic model the wave functions are solutions of Dirac-Hartree equat…
The repulsive Coulomb force poses severe challenges when describing $(d, p)$ reactions for highly charged nuclei as a three-body problem. Casting Faddeev-AGS equations in a Coulomb basis avoids introducing screening of the Coulomb force. However, momentum space partial-wave $t$-matrix elements need to be evaluated in this basis. When those $t$-matrices are separable, the evaluation requires the folding of a form factor, depending on one momentum variable, with a momentum space partial-wave Coulomb function, which has a singular behavior at the external momentum $q$. We developed an improved re…
We investigate the Coulomb breakup of neutron rich nuclei 11Be and (19,17,15)C within a theory developed in the framework of Distorted Wave Born Approximation. Finite range effects are included by a local momentum approximation, which allows incorporation of realistic wave functions for these nuclei in our calculations. Energy and angular as well as parallel momentum distributions of the fragments emitted in the breakup of these nuclei on heavy targets have been calculated using several structure models for their ground state. Comparison with the available experimental data shows that the resu…
The inclusive quasielastic response functions that appear in the scattering of polarized electrons from polarized nuclei are computed and analyzed for several closed-shell-minus-one nuclei with special attention paid to 39K. Results are presented using two models for the ejected nucleon --- when described by a distorted wave in the continuum shell model or by a plane wave in PWIA with on- and off-shell nucleons. Relativistic effects in kinematics and in the electromagnetic current have been incorporated throughout. Specifically, the recently obtained expansion of the electromagnetic current in…
We investgate the breakup of one-neutron halo nuclei in the Coulomb field of a target nucleus. In the post-form distorted wave Born approximation theory of this reaction, with only Coulomb distortions in the entrance and the outgoing channels, an analytic solution for the breakup $T$-matrix is known. We study this $T$-matrix and the corresponding cross-sections numerically. This formula can be related to the first order semiclassical treatment of the electromagnetic dissociation. This theory contains the electromagnetic interaction between the core and the target nucleus to all orders. We show…
