We measure the dependence of the AGN fraction on local environment at z~1, using spectroscopic data taken from the DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey, and Chandra X-ray data from the All-Wavelength Extended Groth Strip International Survey (AEGIS). To provide a clean sample of AGN we restrict our analysis to the red sequence population; this also reduces additional colour-environment correlations. We find evidence that high redshift LINERs in DEEP2 tend to favour higher density environments relative to the red population from which they are drawn. In contrast, Seyferts and X-ray selected AGN at z~1 show little (or no) environmental dependencies within the same underlying population. We compare these results with a sample of local AGN drawn from the SDSS. Contrary to the high redshift behaviour, we find that both LINERs and Seyferts in the SDSS show a slowly declining red sequence AGN fraction towards high density environments. Interestingly, at z~1 red sequence Seyferts and LINERs are approximately equally abundant. By z~0, however, the red Seyfert population has declined relative to the LINER population by over a factor of 7. We speculate on possible interpretations of our results.
We study the host galaxies and black holes of typical X-ray selected AGN at intermediate redshifts (z~0.5-1.4). The AGN are selected such that their spectral energy distributions are dominated by stellar emission, i.e., they show a prominent 1.6micron bump thus minimizing the AGN emission contamination. This AGN population comprises approximately 50% of the X-ray selected AGN at these redshifts. AGN reside in the most massive galaxies at the redshifts probed here, with characteristic stellar masses that are intermediate between those of local type 2 AGN and high redshift (z~2) AGN. The inferre…
Galaxies in the environments of 69 0.2<z<0.7 UBR selected AGN have been imaged to Bj~23.5. By applying photometric redshifts and color selection criteria to the galaxy catalogue, the AGN-galaxy cross-correlation function has been measured as a function of galaxy type. The spatial cross-correlation of AGN with red (early-type) galaxies is comparable to the autocorrelation function of elliptical galaxies at low redshift. In contrast, the cross-correlation of AGN with blue (late-type) galaxies is weak and has been detected with low significance. As blue galaxies dominate Bj~23.5 galaxy catalogues…
In the decreasing intrinsic redshift (DIR) model galaxies are assumed to be born as compact objects that have been ejected with large intrinsic redshift components, z_(i), out of the nuclei of mature AGN galaxies. As young AGN (quasars) they are initially several magnitudes sub-luminous to mature galaxies but their luminosity gradually increases over 10^8 yrs, as z_(i) decreases and they evolve into mature AGN (Seyferts and radio galaxies). Evidence presented here that low- and intermediate-redshift AGN are unquestionably sub-luminous to radio galaxies is then strong support for this model and…
We present the first measurement of the AGN fraction in high-redshift clusters of galaxies (z~0.6) with spectroscopy of one cluster and archival data for three additional clusters. We identify 8 AGN in all four of these clusters from the Chandra data, which are sensitive to AGN with hard X-ray (2-10keV) luminosity L_{X,H} > 10^43 erg/s in host galaxies more luminous than a rest frame M_R < -20 mag. This stands in sharp contrast to the one AGN with L_{X,H} > 10^43 erg/s we discovered in our earlier study of eight low-redshift clusters with z=0.06-0.31 (average z~0.2). Three of the four high-red…
We combine bright XMM data with the Chandra Deep Field South observations in order to explore the behavior of the intrinsic AGN absorption, as a function of redshift and luminosity. Our sample consists of 359 sources selected in the hard 2-8 keV band, spanning the flux range 6\times10^{-16}-$3\times10^{-13} erg s^-1 cm^-2 with a high rate of spectroscopic or photometric redshift completeness (100 and 85 per cent respectively for the Chandra and XMM data. We derive the column density values using X-ray spectral fits. We find that the fraction of obscured AGN falls with increasing luminosity in a…
We have examined the spatial distribution of 856 AGN detected by the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) using a direct search for structures with the minimal spanning tree. The AGNs were compiled from an area of 7000 deg^2, in which optical identifications of RASS sources were made with the help of the digitized objective prism plates of the Hamburg Quasar Survey (HQS). Redshifts were taken from the literature or from own follow-up observations. The sample probes the spatial distribution at low redshifts, since the redshift distribution peaks at z=0.1. The application of the minimal spanning tree led…
X-ray surveys of the extragalactic universe are now able to detect significant numbers of AGN out to high redshift (z~5). We highlight some results from the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) to measure the X-ray luminosity function out to these early epochs. At z > 3, we show that the comoving space density of luminous (log Lx > 44.5) AGN has a behavior similar to the optical QSO luminosity function. With a newly compiled sample of AGN from ChaMP supplemented with those from additional surveys including the Chandra Deep fields, we present a preliminary measure of the luminosity function …
We compute the effect of the galactic absorption on AGN emission in a cosmological context by including a physical model for AGN feeding and feedback in a semi-analytic model of galaxy formation. This is based on galaxy interactions as triggers for AGN accretion, and on expanding blast waves as a mechanism to propagate outwards the AGN energy injected into the interstellar medium at the center of galaxies. We first test our model against the observed number density of AGNs with different intrinsic luminosity as a function of redshift. The model yields a ''downsizing'' behavior in close agreeme…
We give a review on possible starburst-AGN (active galactic nuclei) connections from high redshift to the present day. First, we give a historical review on some basic ideas related to the starburst-AGN connection published in the literature. Second, we focus our attention to the so-called Magorrian relation which is the close relationship between the nuclear black hole mass and the bulge mass, established in nearby galaxies. If the Magorrian relation is universal, we obtain an important implication that any supermassive black holes were made through successive merging processes of starburst r…
In the Hubble Deep Field (HDF), twelve candidate sources of high-redshift (z > 3.5) AGN activity have been identified. The color selection criteria were established by passing spectra of selected quasars and Seyfert galaxies (appropriately redshifted and modified for "Lyman forest" absorption), as well as stars, observed normal and starburst galaxies, and galaxy models for various redshifts through the filters used for the HDF observations. The actual identification of AGN candidates also involved convolving a Laplacian-of-Gaussian filter with the HDF images, thereby removing relatively flat g…
We explore how the local environment is related to the redshift, type, and luminosity of active galactic nuclei (AGN). Recent simulations and observations are converging on the view that the extreme luminosity of quasars is fueled in major mergers of gas-rich galaxies. In such a picture, quasars are expected to be located in regions with a higher density of galaxies on small scales where mergers are more likely to take place. However, in this picture, the activity observed in low-luminosity AGN is due to secular processes that are less dependent on the local galaxy density. To test this hypoth…
Powerful extended radio galaxies in the 3CR survey are observed out to redshifts of about 2. For redshifts greater than about 0.3, the average lobe-lobe size of the sources decreases monotonically with redshift for all reasonable cosmological parameter choices. This suggests that the characteristic time for which an AGN produces a highly collimated outflow that powers the radio emission is shorter for the high-redshift sources than it is for low-redshift sources. The fact that the characteristic time for which an AGN produces a collimated outflow decreases with redshift implies that the physic…
Spectra have been obtained with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope for 20 sources in the Lockman Hole field of the SWIRE survey. The sample is divided between sources with indicators of an obscured AGN, based primarily on X-ray detections of optically-faint sources, and sources with indicators of a starburst, based on optical and near-infrared spectral energy distributions (SEDs) which show a luminosity peak from stellar photospheric emission. Ten of the 11 AGN sources have IRS spectra which show silicate absorption or are power laws; only one AGN source shows PAH e…
We present a new determination of the optical luminosity function (OLF) of active galactic nuclei (AGN) at low redshifts (z<0.15) based on Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations of X-ray-selected AGN. The HST observations have allowed us to derive a true nuclear luminosity function for these AGN. The resulting OLF illustrates a two-power-law form similar to that derived for QSOs at higher redshifts. At bright magnitudes, M_B<-20, the OLF derived here exhibits good agreement with that derived from the Hamburg/ESO QSO survey. However, the single power law form for the OLF derived from the Ham…
The environmental properties of a sample of 31 hard X-ray selected AGN are investigated, from scales of 500 kpc down to 30 kpc, and are compared to a control sample of inactive galaxies. The AGN all lie in the redshift range 0.4<z<0.6. The accretion luminosity-density of the Universe peaks close to this redshift range, and the AGN in the sample have X-ray luminosities close to the knee in the hard X-ray luminosity function, making them representative of the population which dominated this important phase of energy conversion. Using both the spatial clustering amplitude and near neighbour count…
I explore a possibility to measure the gravitational redshift (GR) effect in the gravitational field of massive central nuclei residing in active galaxies (AGN). The activity of central nuclei is associated with the bipolar jet ejection of relativistic plasma which produces strong radio emission. I consider the behavior of the flux density variations of the jet plasma as a result of GR effect from a Schwarzschild black hole, and I discuss possibilities to detect the GR effect from the relativistic jets of compact AGN with present and future radio facilities.
In order to study the evolution of the relative fraction of obscured Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) we constructed the largest sample to date of AGN selected in hard X-rays. The full sample contains 2341 X-ray-selected AGN, roughly 4 times the largest previous samples studied in this connection. Of these, 1229 (53%) have optical counterparts for which redshifts are available; these span the redshift range $z$=0-4. The observed fraction of obscured AGN declines only slightly with redshift. Correcting for selection bias, we find that the intrinsic fraction of obscured AGN must actually increase wi…
Redshift evolution of supermassive black hole mass functions (BHMFs) is investigated up to z ~ 1. BHMFs at intermediate redshifts are calculated in two ways. One way is from early-type galaxy luminosity functions (LFs); we assume an M_BH - L_sph correlation at a redshift by considering a passive evolution of L_sph in the local relationship. The resultant BHMFs (spheroid-BHMFs) from LFs of red sequence galaxies indicates a slight decrease of number density with increasing redshift at M_BH > 10^{7.5-8} M_solar. Since a redshift evolution in slope and zeropoint of the M_BH - L_sph relation is unl…
The case of gamma-ray absorption due to photon-photon pair production of jet photons in the external photon environment like accretion disk and broad-line region radiation field of gamma-ray loud active galactic nuclei (AGN) that exhibit strong emission lines is considered. I demonstrate that this ''local opacity'', if detected, will almost unavoidably be redshift-dependent in the sub-TeV range. This introduces non-negligible biases, and complicates approaches for studying the evolution of the extragalactic background light with contemporary GeV instruments like e.g. the Gamma-ray Large Area S…
We explore the role of the group environment in the evolution of AGN at the redshift interval 0.7<z<1.4, by combining deep Chandra observations with extensive optical spectroscopy from the All-wavelength Extended Groth strip International Survey (AEGIS). The sample consists of 3902 optical sources and 71 X-ray AGN. Compared to the overall optically selected galaxy population, X-ray AGN are more frequently found in groups at the 99% confidence level. This is partly because AGN are hosted by red luminous galaxies, which are known to reside, on average, in dense environments. Relative to these so…
The cores of active galactic nuclei (AGN) harbor some of the most extreme conditions of matter and energy in the Universe. One of the major goals of high-energy astrophysics is to probe these extreme environments in the vicinity of supermassive black holes, which are intimately linked to the mechanisms that produce the continuum emission in AGN. X-ray studies seek to understand the physics responsible for the continuum emission, its point of origin, how nuclear activity is fueled, and how supermassive black holes evolve. The key to finding answers to these questions lies in measuring the intri…
We study the stellar and star formation (SF) properties of the host galaxies of 58 X-ray selected AGN in the GOODS portion of the Chandra Deep Field South (CDF-S) region at z~0.5-1.4. The AGN are selected such that their rest-frame UV to near-IR SEDs are dominated by stellar emission, i.e., they show a prominent 1.6micron bump, thus minimizing the AGN emission 'contamination'. This AGN population comprises approximately 50% of the X-ray selected AGN at these redshifts. Using models of stellar and dust emission we model their SEDs to derive stellar masses (M*) and total (UV+IR) star formation r…
We present the discovery of a high redshift, X-ray selected AGN by the Calan-Yale Deep Extragalactic Research (CYDER) survey: CXOCY J033716.7-050153, located at $z=4.61$, the second high redshift AGN discovered by this survey. Here, we present its optical, near-IR and X-ray properties and compare it with other optical and X-ray selected high redshift AGN. The optical luminosity of this object is significantly lower than most optically selected high redshift quasars. It also has a lower rest frame UV to X-ray emission ratio than most known quasars at this redshift. This mild deviation can be ex…
We discuss preliminary results from our programme to map the fields of high-redshift AGN. In the context of the hierarchical models such fields are predicted to contain an over-density of young, luminous galaxies destined to evolve into the core of a rich cluster by the present epoch. We have thus imaged from submillimetre to X-ray wavelengths the few-arcmin scale fields of a small sample of high-redshift QSOs. We find that submillimetre wavelength data from SCUBA show striking over-densities of luminous star-forming galaxies over scales of ~500 kpc. Whilst many of these galaxies are undetecte…
Deep Chandra X-ray exposures provide an efficient route for locating optically faint active galactic nuclei (AGN) at high redshifts. We use deep multicolor optical data to search for z>5 AGN in the 2 Ms X-ray exposure of the Chandra Deep Field-North. Of the 423 X-ray sources bright enough (z'<25.2) for a color-color analysis, at most one lies at z=5-6 and none at z>6. The z>5 object is spectroscopically confirmed at z=5.19. Only 31 of the 77 sources with z'>25.2 are undetected in the B or V bands at the 2-sigma level and could lie at z>5. There are too few moderate luminosity AGN at z=5-6.5 to…
We have found a statistically significant (99.1 \%) excess of red ($O-E>2$) galaxies with photographic magnitudes $E<19.5$, $O< 21$ taken from the APM Sky Catalogue around $z \sim 1$ radiosources from the 1Jy catalogue. The amplitude, scale and dependence on galaxy colours of the observed overdensity are consistent with its being a result of the magnification bias caused by the weak gravitational lensing of large scale structures at redshift $z \approx 0.2-0.4$ and are hardly explained by other causes, as obscuration by dust.
Radio continuum surveys can detect galaxies over a very wide range in redshift, making them powerful tools for studying the distant universe. Until recently, though, identifying the optical counterparts of faint radio sources and measuring their redshifts was a slow and laborious process which could only be carried out for relatively small samples of galaxies. Combining data from all-sky radio continuum surveys with optical spectra from the new large-area redshift surveys now makes it possible to measure redshifts for tens of thousands of radio-emitting galaxies, as well as determining unambig…
We present spectroscopic redshifts for the first 466 X-ray and radio-selected AGN targets in the 2 deg^2 COSMOS field. Spectra were obtained with the IMACS instrument on the Magellan (Baade) telescope, using the nod-and-shuffle technique. We identify a variety of Type 1 and Type 2 AGN, as well as red galaxies with no emission lines. Our redshift yield is 72% down to i_AB=24, although the yield is >90% for i_AB<22. We expect the completeness to increase as the survey continues. When our survey is complete and additional redshifts from the zCOSMOS project are included, we anticipate ~1100 AGN wi…
We have determined the cosmological evolution of the density of AGN and of their Nh distribution as a function of the un-absorbed 2-10 keV luminosity up to redshift 4. We used the HELLAS2XMM sample combined with other published catalogs, yielding a total of 508 AGN. Our best fit is obtained with a luminosity-dependent density evolution (LDDE) model where low luminosity (Lx~10^43 erg s^-1) AGN peak at z~0.7, while high luminosity AGN (Lx>10^45 erg s^-1) peak at z~2.0. A pure luminosity evolution model (PLE) can instead be rejected. There is evidence that the fraction of absorbed (Nh>10^22 cm^-2…
We present and discuss optical imaging of 76 AGN which represent the 2MASS-selected sample for z<0.3, from a full list of 243. They are found to have dust-obscured nuclei, residing in host galaxies that show a high fraction (>70%) of tidal interactions. The derived luminosities of the AGN and host galaxies are similar to traditionally-selected AGN, and they may comprise some 40% of the total AGN population at low redshift. We have measured a number of host galaxy properties, and discuss their distributions and interrelations. We compare the 2MASS AGN with optically selected samples and the IRA…
We use the clustering of galaxies around distant active-galactic nuclei to derive an estimate of the relationship between galaxy and black hole mass that obtained during the ancient quasar epoch, at redshifts 2 <~ z <~ 3, when giant black holes accreted much of their mass. Neither the mean relationship nor its scatter differs significantly from what is observed in the local universe, at least over the ranges of apparent magnitude (16 <~ G_AB <~ 26) and black-hole mass (10^6 <~ M_BH/M_sun <~ 10^10.5) that we are able to probe.
Using the results of recent optical surveys we conclude that the {\it non}-detection of quasars down to faint magnitudes implies a significant flattening of the high redshift (z~6) optical active galactic nuclei (AGN) luminosity function for M_{1450}>-24.7. We find that all the data are consistent with a faint-end slope for the optical AGN luminosity function of β=-2.2 and β=-2.8, at the 90% and 99% confidence level respectively, flatter than the bright-end slope of β'~ -3.2. We also show that X-ray deep surveys have probed even fainter magnitudes than the optical ones yielding more significan…
We have employed a reliable technique of classification of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) based on the fit of well-sampled spectral energy distributions (SEDs) with a complete set of AGN and starburst galaxy templates. We have compiled ultraviolet, optical, and infrared data for a sample of 116 AGN originally selected for their X-ray and mid-infrared emissions (96 with single detections and 20 with double optical counterparts). This is the most complete compilation of multiwavelength data for such a big sample of AGN in the Extended Groth Strip (EGS). Through these SEDs, we are able to obtain hi…
The Combined EIS-NVSS Survey Of Radio Sources (CENSORS) has been produced with the primary goal of investigating the cosmological evolution of the radio luminosity function. This 1.4GHz sample, complete to the 7.2 mJy level, contains 150 radio sources. Host galaxies are almost entirely identified in optical and near-IR bands and the sample is now approaching 70% spectroscopic completeness. We show preliminary results demonstrating how CENSORS will improve upon previous work and how it is applicable to other projects.
We are undertaking the first systematic study of the prevalence of AGN activity in a large sample of high redshift galaxy clusters. Local clusters contain mainly red elliptical galaxies, and have little or no luminous AGN activity. However, recent studies of some moderate to high redshift clusters have revealed significant numbers of luminous AGN within the cluster. This effect may parallel the Butcher-Oemler effect - the increase in the fraction of blue galaxies in distant clusters compared to local clusters. Our aim is to verify and quantify recent evidence that AGN activity in dense environ…
We present the results from a detailed X-ray variability analysis of 66 AGN in the Lockman Hole, which have optical spectroscopic identifications. We compare, quantitatively, their variability properties with the properties of local AGN, and we study the "variability-luminosity" relation as a function of redshift, and the "variability-redshift" relation in two luminosity bins. We use archival data from the last 10 XMM observations of the Lockman Hole field to extract light curves in the rest frame, 2-10 keV band. We use the "normalized excess variance" to quantify the variability amplitude. Us…
We have compared the UV line ratios of a sample of very high redshift radio galaxies with shock and AGN photoionization models, with the goal of determining the balance between jet-induced shocks and AGN illumination in the extended emission line regions. We find that the UV line ratios cannot be explained in terms of photoionization of solar abundance gas by the classical power law of index $α=$-1.5, which successfully reproduces the general trends defined by the optical line ratios of low redshift radio galaxies. Pure shock models also provide a poor fit to the data. However, photoionization…
We report on the investigation of a complete sample of young radio-loud AGN at z<0.25, selected using the new comprehensive radio surveys and the optical APM/POSS-I catalog. This new sample will provide a unique opportunity for statistical studies of the early evolution of radio-loud AGN, free of cosmological evolution effects. In particular, their local luminosity function, linear-size and dynamical age distributions, may strongly constrain possible evolution scenarios. In addition, this new sample is well suited for statistical studies of other important properties, like their X-ray and infr…
We are searching for large-scale structures in the distribution of AGN discovered by the ROSAT All-Sky Survey. The RASS detected > 60000 X-ray objects, of which approximately 35% are AGN at z < 0.5. The surface density in the extragalactic sky is approximately 0.5 AGN/deg^2, which has not been reached until now by any other survey for this redshift range. We efficiently single out the AGN among all the RASS sources using the Hamburg/RASS database of optical identifications, which contains presently 13867 entries. Follow-up spectroscopy of RASS AGN candidates identified in selected areas of the…
Based on the photometry of 10 near-UV, optical, and near-infrared bands of the Chandra Deep Field South, we estimate the photometric redshifts for 342 X-ray sources, which constitute ~99% of all the detected X-ray sources in the field. The models of spectral energy distribution are based on galaxies and a combination of power-law continuum and emission lines. Color information is useful for source classifications: Type-I AGN show non-thermal spectral features that are distinctive from galaxies and Type-II AGN. The hardness ratio in X-ray and the X-ray-to-optical flux ratio are also useful disc…
We present analysis of spectral energy distributions (SEDs) from mid-infrared through X-ray of a sample of 420 hard X-ray selected, z-band and Spitzer/IRAC detected active galactic nuclei (AGN) and AGN candidates from the GOODS multiwavelength survey. We fit local empirical SED templates of both normal and active galaxies to the rest-frame luminosities calculated from spectroscopic (where available) and photometric redshifts. The majority of the optically stellar-dominated (with early-type galaxy fits) sources are moderately luminous (L_X,2-10 keV ~ 10^43 erg/s) hard X-ray sources with high X-…
Analysis of the frequency and physical properties of galaxies with star-formation and AGN activity in different environments in the local universe is a cornerstone for understanding structure formation and galaxy evolution. We have built a new multiwavelength catalog for galaxies in a complete redshift survey (the 15R Survey), gathering information on their H-alpha, R-band, radio, far-infrared, and X-ray emission, as well as their radio and optical morphologies, and have developed a classification scheme to compare different selection methods and to select accurately samples of radio emitting …
Deep X-ray surveys by Chandra and XMM-Newton have resolved about 80% of the 2-10 keV cosmic extragalactic X-ray background (CXRB) into point sources, the majority of which are obscured AGN. The obscuration might be connected to processes within the host galaxy, possibly the star-formation rate. Here, we use the results of CXRB synthesis calculations as input to detailed Cloudy simulations in order to predict the evolution of AGN properties at several mid-IR wavelengths. Computations were performed for three different evolutions of the AGN type 2/type 1 ratio between z=0 and 1: where the ratio …
We present partial-correlation analyses that examine the strengths of the relationships between L_UV, L_X, Alpha_OX, and redshift for optically-selected AGNs. We extend the work of Strateva et al. (2005), that analyzed optically-selected AGNs from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), by including 52 moderate-luminosity, optically-selected AGNs from the COMBO-17 survey with corresponding deep (~250 ks to 1 Ms) X-ray observations from the Extended Chandra Deep Field-South. The COMBO-17 survey extends ~3 magnitudes deeper than the SDSS and probes the moderate-luminosity AGNs that numerically domi…
We study the impact of outflows driven by active galactic nuclei (AGN) on galaxy formation. Outflows move into the surrounding intergalactic medium (IGM) and heat it sufficiently to prevent it from condensing onto galaxies. In the dense, high-redshift IGM, such feedback requires highly energetic outflows, driven by a large AGN. However, in the more tenuous low-redshift IGM, equivalently strong feedback can be achieved by less energetic winds (and thus smaller galaxies). Using a simple analytic model, we show that this leads to the anti-hierarchical quenching of star-formation in large galaxies…
The NASA/ISO Key Project on active galactic nuclei (AGN) seeks to better understand the broad-band spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of these sources from radio to X-rays, with particular emphasis on infrared properties. The ISO sample includes a wide variety of AGN types and spans a large redshift range. Two subsamples are considered herein: 8 high-redshift (1 < z < 4.7) quasars; and 22 hard X-ray selected sources. The X-ray selected AGN show a wide range of IR continuum shapes, extending to cooler colors than the optical/radio sample of Elvis et al. (1994). Where a far-IR turnover is clea…
We discuss the constraints on the AGN evolution from the cosmic X-ray background and source counts. A synthesis model to fit the X-ray background is presented. In the model, the spectrum of type 2 AGN has been modeled including Compton down--scattering within the absorbing material. Besides, we introduced a dependence on redshift of the relative number of obscured sources and found a decrease of the fraction of type 2 AGN at redshifts larger than 2.
A sample of 198 soft X--ray selected active galactic nuclei (AGN) from the ROSAT International X--ray Optical Survey (RIXOS), is used to investigate the X--ray luminosity function and its evolution. RIXOS, with a flux limit of 3E-14 erg s-1 cm-2 (0.5 to 2.0 keV), samples a broad range in redshift over 20 deg^2 of sky, and is almost completely identified; it is used in combination with the Einstein Extended Medium Sensitivity Survey (EMSS), to give a total sample of over 600 AGN. We find the evolution of AGN with redshift to be consistent with pure luminosity evolution (PLE) models in which the…
