We discuss the production of single top-quark final states by direct supersymmetric flavor-changing interactions at the LHC. The total cross section pp(gg)->t\bar{c}+\bar{t}c is computed at the 1-loop order within the unconstrained MSSM. We prove that SUSY-QCD effects may furnish sizeable production rates amounting up to barely 10^5 t\bar{c}(c\bar{t}) events per 100 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity, in full compliance with the stringent low-energy constraints from b->s gamma. Furthermore, we show that the cooperative SUSY-EW effects can be sizeable on their own, regardless of the SUSY-QCD contribution, with maximum production rates of the order of 10^3 events per 100 fb^{-1}. Owing to the fact that FCNC production of electrically neutral heavy-quark pairs is virtually absent within the SM, we conclude that the observation of such pp(gg)->t\bar{c}+\bar{t}c processes at the LHC could lead to evidence of new physics - of likely supersymmetric nature.
We study the possibility of same sign top quark pair production at the LHC (and the VLHC) as a direct probe of FCNC processes. Besides the SM neutral Z boson, two other neutral bosons are considered, a top-Higgs type scalar and a Z' boson that appear in Topcolor assisted Technicolor models. We find that the FCNC couplings tqV (q=u,c ; V=H,Z,Z') may produce an interesting signal of same sign top quark pairs that could be observed at the LHC (VLHC).
A mechanism for double suppression of flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNCs) and CP violating phases in supersymmetric models is suggested. At M_{SUSY} they are suppressed due to a nonabelian discrete flavor symmetry, and the infrared attractive force of gauge interactions in extra dimensions are used to suppress them at the compactification scale. We present a concrete model, which is a simple extension of S_{3} invariant minimal supersymmetric standard model, where only SU(2)_{L} and SU(3)_{C} gauge multiplets are assumed to propagate in the bulk. We find that a disorder of two orders of m…
In the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT) the newly introduced mirror quarks have flavor-changing couplings with the Standard Model (SM) quarks and may enhance the flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark interactions which are extremely suppressed in the SM. In this work we perform a comprehensive study for the contributions of these mirror fermions to various top quark FCNC decays and productions at the LHC, which includes the decays t-> c V (V=g, γ, Z), t -> cgg and the productions proceeding through the parton processes cg -> t, gg -> t c_bar, cg -> tg, cg -> tγand cg -> t Z.…
We evaluate the $t\bar{c}$ and $t\bar{u}$ productions at the LHC within the general unconstrained MSSM framework. We find that these single top quark productions induced by SUSY-QCD FCNC couplings have remarkable cross sections for favorable parameter values allowed by current low energy data, which can be as large as a few pb. Once large rates of the $t\bar{c}$ and $t\bar{u}$ productions are detected at the LHC, they may be induced by SUSY FCNC couplings. We show that the precise measurement of single top quark production cross sections at the LHC is a powerful probe for the details of the SU…
We study the combined effects of both strong and electroweak dimension six effective operators on flavour changing top quark physics at the LHC. Analytic expressions for the cross sections and decay widths of several flavour changing processes will be presented, as well as an analysis of the feasibility of their observation at the LHC.
A concrete model which can suppress FCNCs and CP violating phenomena is suggested. It is an $S_3$ symmetric extension of the MSSM in extra dimensions, where only SU(2) and SU(3) gauge multiplets are assumed to propagate in the bulk. They are suppressed due to $S_3$ flavor symmetry at $M_{SUSY}$, and the infrared attractive force of gauge interactions in extra dimensions are used to suppress them at the compactification scale. We find that O(1) disorders of the soft parameters are allowed at the cut-off scale to suppress sufficiently FCNCs and CP violating phenomena.
In this paper, we investigated the process $pp \to W^{-}hj$ induced by the top-Higgs flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) couplings at the LHC. We found that the cross section of $pp \to W^{-}hj$ mainly comes from the resonant process $pp\to W^{-}t\to W^{-}hq$ due to the anomalous $tqH$ couplings (where $q$ denotes up and charm quarks). We further studied the observability of the top-Higgs FCNC couplings through the process $pp \to W^{-}(\to \ell^{-} \barν_{\ell}) h( \to γγ) j$ and found that the branching ratios $Br(t\to qh)$ can be probed to $0.16\%$ at $3σ$ level at 14 TeV LHC with an int…
Higgs singlet superfields, usually present in extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) which address the $μ$-problem, such as the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) and the Minimal Nonminimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (mnSSM), can have significant contributions to $B$-meson flavour-changing neutral current observables for large values of $\tanβ\gsim 50$. Illustrative results are presented including effects on the $B_s$ and on the rare decay $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$. In particular, we find that in the NMSSM, the branching ratio for $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$ can be enhanc…
In this work we calculate the effects of the electroweak flavour changing neutral currents dimension six effective operators on single top production at the LHC. These results are then combined with previous ones we have obtained for the strong sector. This allow us, for the first time, to perform a combined analysis of flavour changing neutral currents in top production with all contributing dimension six operators. Finally, we study the feasibility of their observation and characterization both at the Tevatron and at the LHC.
Flavour changing neutral currents are absent at tree level in the Standard Model (SM) and are highly suppressed at higher orders due the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism. Hence, any evidence of such currents related to the top quark will definitely signal new physics beyond the SM. In this work we will discuss how an electron-positron collider can contribute to the field after the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has collected at least 100 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity operating at sqrt{s} = 14 TeV.
We analyze the production and subsequent decay of the neutral MSSM Higgs bosons (h = h^0, H^0, A^0) mediated by flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) in the LHC collider. We have computed the h-production cross-section times the FCNC branching ratio, σ(pp -> h -> qq') = σ(pp -> h) B(h -> qq'), in the LHC focusing on the strongly-interacting FCNC sector. Here qq' is an electrically neutral pair of quarks of different flavors, the dominant modes being those containing a heavy quark: tc or bs. We determine the maximum production rates for each of these modes and identify the relevant regions of…
Higgs singlet superfields are usually present in most extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) that address the mu-problem, such as the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) and the Minimal Nonminimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MNSSM). Employing a gauge- and flavour-covariant effective Lagrangian formalism, we show how the singlet Higgs bosons of such theories can have significant contributions to B-meson flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) observables for large values of $\tanβ\stackrel{>}{{}_\sim} 50$ at the 1-loop level. Illustrative results are…
We conduct a general discussion of supersymmetric models with three families in the Higgs sector. We analyse the scalar potential, and investigate the minima conditions, deriving the mass matrices for the scalar, pseudoscalar and charged states. Depending on the Yukawa couplings and the Higgs spectrum, the model might allow the occurrence of potentially dangerous flavour changing neutral currents at the tree-level. We compute model-independent contributions for several observables, and as an example we apply this general analysis to a specific model of quark-Higgs interactions, discussing how …
We consider Flavour Changing Neutral Current processes in the framework of the supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. FCNC constraints on the structure of sfermion mass matrices are reviewed. Furthermore, we analyze supersymmetric contributions to FCNC transitions which remain in the limit of flavour-conserving sfermion mass matrices. Implications of the FCNC constraints on the structure of sfermion mass matrices for SUSY breaking and sfermion mass generation are discussed. We conclude that the supersymmetric flavour problem is intriguing but perhaps not as severe as it is commonly be…
In this paper, we study the observability of the top-Higgs flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) $tqh$ coupling through the process $pp\to qg\to t(\to \ell^{+}bν)h(\to γγ)$ at the Large Hadron Collider~(LHC), where $\ell=e, μ$. Our numerical results show that, in some parameter regions, the LHC may observe the above signals at the $5σ$ level. Otherwise, the branching ratios $Br(t\to uh)$ and $Br(t\to ch)$ can be respectively probed to $0.036\%$ and $0.13\%$ at $3σ$ level at 14 TeV LHC with the high integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$. On the other hand, studying the charge ratio for the l…
We investigate the sensitivity of future searches for the top-Higgs boson Flavour Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) couplings $tqh$~($q= u, c$) at the proposed High Energy Large Hadron Collider~(HE-LHC) and Future Circular Collider in hadron-hadron mode (FCC-hh). We perform a full simulation for two processes in the $h\to γγ$ decay channel (where $h$ is the discovered Higgs state): single top quark FCNC production in association with the Higgs boson (plus a jet) and top quark pair production with FCNC decays $t\to qh$. All the relevant backgrounds are considered in a cut based analysis to obtain…
We analyze the production and subsequent decay of the neutral Higgs bosons of the MSSM into electrically neutral quark pairs qq'=bs,tc of different flavors at the LHC and compare with the direct FCNC production mechanisms. The cross-sections are computed in the unconstrained MSSM with minimal flavor-mixing sources and taking into account the stringent bounds from radiative B-meson decays. We extend the results previously found for these FCNC processes, which are singularly uncommon in the SM. Specifically, we report here on the SUSY-EW contribution of the Higgs-mediated FCNC cross-section into…
The LHC will have unprecedented sensitivity to flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) top quark decays, whose observation would be a clear sign of physics beyond the standard model. Although many details of top flavor violation are model dependent, the standard model gauge symmetries relate top FCNCs to other processes, which are strongly constrained by existing data. We study these constraints in a model independent way, using a low energy effective theory from which the new physics is integrated out. We consider the most important operators which contribute to top FCNCs and analyze the curre…
We study the flavor changing neutral current couplings of new heavy quarks through the Z' models at the LHC. We calculate the cross sections for the signal and the corresponding standard model background processes. Considering the present limits on the mass of new heavy quarks and the Z' boson, we performed an analysis to investigate the parameter space (mixing and mass) through different Z' models. For an FCNC mixing parameter x=0.1 and the Z' mass M_{Z'}=2000 GeV, and new heavy quark mass m_{t'}=700 GeV at the LHC with \sqrt{s}=13 TeV, we find the cross section for single production of new h…
In the context of the Supersymmetric Standard Model with hierarchical sfermion masses, we re-analyze the QCD corrections to Delta F=2 effective Hamiltonian properly including effects which have been neglected so far. The point is that some Delta F=2 diagrams, involving both the heavy and the light sparticles, exhibit a logarithmic dependence on the ratio between the two masses, signalling a sensitivity to all the momenta between the two scales. In order to properly deal with these terms one has to take into account the mixing between Delta F=1 and Delta F=2 operators. In typical situations thi…
The top quark is the heaviest particle to date discovered, with a mass close to the electroweak symmetry breaking scale. It is expected that the top quark would be sensitive to the new physics at the TeV scale. One of the most important aspects of the top quark physics can be the investigation of the possible anomalous couplings. Here, we study the top quark flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) couplings via the extra gauge boson Z' at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) energies. We calculate the total cross sections for the signal and the corresponding St…
We revise the limits on the FCNC higgses in manifestly left-right symmetric theories. It is shown that the combination of the Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violation with the tree level $ΔS=2$ higgs exchange gives very large contribution to the CP-violating $ε$ parameter. It leads to the new strong constraint on the FCNC higgs mass, M>50- 100 TeV, enhanced by factor of the order $\sqrt{m_t/m_c}$. Being addressed to the supersymmetric left-right models, FCNC problem requires both right-handed scale and supersymmetric mass parameters be heavier than 50 TeV for $tanβ\sim 1$. The most relaxed case correspo…
The best limit on the strong FCNC anomalous couplings was obtained using the direct top production process at the Large Hadron Collider by the ATLAS collaboration. We perform a similar analysis but using a next-to-leading order generator, MEtop. We then show how the limits could be improved if the FCNC single top process $pp \to tj$ would be included as signal. Finally we discuss a slightly modified analysis with an extra hard jet in the final state.
In this Thesis we have investigated some effects appearing in top quark and Higgs boson decays with flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) in the framework of generic Two Higgs Doblet Models (2HDM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We have applied these two extensions to the SM to see whether they can produce new FCNC effects. Introductory chapters deal with the 2HDM and the MSSM. In the next chapters we have computed the following FCNC decays: (1) the branching ratios (B) of the top quark to Higgs bosons and charm quark in the 2HDM; (2) B and number of events at the Large…
The potential of the LHC for investigation of anomalous top quark interactions with gluon ($tug, tcg$) through the production of $tW$-channel of single top quark is studied. In the Standard Model, the single top quarks in the $tW$-channel mode are charge symmetric meaning that $σ(pp\to t+W^{-}) = σ(pp\to \bar{t}+W^{+})$. However, the presence of anomalous FCNC couplings leads to charge asymmetry. In this paper a method is proposed in which this charge asymmetry may be used to constrain anomalous FCNC couplings. The strength of resulting constraints is estimated for the LHC for the center of mas…
In supersymmetry (SUSY) the flavor mixing between top-squark (stop) and charm-squark (scharm) induces the flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) stop decay $\tilde t_1 \to c \tilde χ^0_1$. Searching for this decay serves as a probe of soft SUSY breaking parameters. Focusing on the stop pair production followed by the FCNC decay of one stop and the charge-current decay of the other stop, we investigate the potential of detecting this FCNC stop decay at the Fermilab Tevatron, the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the next-generation $e^+e^-$ linear collider (LC). We find that this decay may n…
I discuss a ``more minimal'' modification of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, in which supersymmetry breaking is connected with the physics of flavor. Flavor Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) for the first two families are suppressed, and for the third family may be of comparable size to the FCNC in the Standard Model.
Recent work on flavour changing neutral current effects in supersymmetric models is reviewed. The emphasis is put on new issues related to solutions to the flavour problem through new symmetries: GUTs, horizontal symmetries, modular invariances.
We calculate flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes with top-quark production via anomalous couplings at LHC energies. We report on progress on the FCNC processes gu -> tZ, gu -> t gamma and gu -> tg. We go beyond leading order and include soft-gluon corrections through next-to-next-to-leading order.
Baryon number (B) is automatically conserved in the standard SU(2) X U(1) electroweak gauge model, but not in its supersymmetric extension where it must be imposed as an extra condition. This undesirable feature is avoided in the conventional left-right supersymmetric extension, but then flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNC) are not naturally suppressed. A new version is proposed with automatic B conservation as well as FCNC suppression (except for u quarks through scalar exchange).
In this paper we propose and study direct single top quark production channel for probing the tq$γ$ flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) interactions at the LHC. We reinterpret the experimental results of a search for direct single top quark production performed by ATLAS collaboration at 8 TeV to set upper bounds on the FCNC top quark decay branching fractions through the proposed channel, resulting in ${\cal B}$(t$\rightarrow$ u$γ$) $<$ 0.05\% and ${\cal B}$(t$\rightarrow$ c$γ$) $<$ 0.14\%. Finally, the expected sensitivity at 13 TeV for various integrated luminosity scenarios is estimated.
Since the top quark FCNC processes are extremely supressed in the Standard Model (SM) but could be greatly enhanced in some new physics models, they could serve as a smoking gun for new physics hunting at the LHC. In this brief review we summarize the new physics predictions for various top quark FCNC processes at the LHC by focusing on two typical models: the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM) and the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model. The conclusion is: (1) Both new physics models can greatly enhance the SM predictions by several orders; (2) The TC2 model allows for largest enhancem…
We present a SUSY model with four Higgs doublets of the ``private type", where each fermion type (up, down, and charged leptons) obtain their masses from a different Higgs doublet H_f ( f = u_1, d, e). The conditions for anomaly cancellation, imply that the remaining Higgs doublet of the model (H_{u_2}), must have the same hypercharge as H_{u_1}, and thus can only couple to up-type quarks, which opens the possibility to have FCNC's only in this sector. We study the Lagrangian of the model, and in particular the Higgs potential, in order to identify the Higgs mass-eigenstates and their interact…
We compute and analyze the Flavor-Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) interactions of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model Higgs bosons (h = h0, H0, A0) with heavy quarks (top and bottom), focusing on the strongly-interacting sector. We correlate the Higgs bosons production cross-section at the LHC with the FCNC decay branching ratios and find the maximum allowed values of the production rates, sigma(pp -> h -> qq') = sigma(pp -> h) x B(h -> qq') (qq'= tc or bs) after taking into account limits from low energy data on flavor-changing interactions. We single out the top channel, with a maximum pro…
Flavor Changing Neutral Current decays of the top quark within the strict context of the Standard Model are known to be extremely rare. In fact, they are hopelessly undetectable at the Tevatron, LHC and LC in any of their scheduled upgradings. Therefore, if a few of these events eventually show up in the future we will have certainly discovered new physics. We argue that this could well be the case for the LHC and the LC both within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and in a general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM), especially if we look for FCNC top quark decays into Higgs bosons…
In the minimal supersymmetric model the R-parity violating top quark interactions, which are so far weakly constrained, can induce various flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) productions for the top quark at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this work we assume the presence of the B-violating couplings and examine their contributions to the FCNC productions proceeding through the parton processes cg -> t, gg -> t c_bar, cg -> tγ, cg -> t Z and cg -> t h. We find that all these processes can be greatly enhanced relative to the R-parity preserving predictions. In the parameter space allowed…
Rare flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) decays of top, beauty and charm quarks can provide a powerful probe for as yet unobserved particles. Recent results on FCNC $b \to s$, $c \to u$ and $t$ transitions from the LHC experiments are reviewed. Particular attention is paid to the angular distribution of the $B^{0} \to K^{*0} μ^{+} μ^{-}$ decay, where a measurement performed by LHCb shows a local discrepancy of 3.7 standard deviations with respect to the SM prediction. Using the decay $B^{+} \to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}γ$, LHCb have also been able to demonstrate the polarisation of photons produced …
We evaluate the top-quark FCNC productions induced by the topcolor assisted technicolor (TC2) model at the LHC. These productions proceed respectively through the parton-level processes g g -> t c_bar, c g->t, c g -> t g, c g -> t Z and c g -> t γ. We show the dependence of the production rates on the relevant TC2 parameters and compare the results with the predictions in the minimal supersymmetric model. We find that for each channel the TC2 model predicts a much larger production rate than the supersymmetric model. All these rare productions in the TC2 model can be enhanced above the 3-sigma…
In the supersymmetric models with nontrivial flavour structure in the soft-breaking sector the exchange of neutral Higgses mediates $ΔF=2$ transitions. This mechanism is studied for $ΔS, ΔB=2$ processes and for a generic form of the soft-breaking terms. We find that Higgs-mediated FCNC amplitudes increase very rapidly with $\tanβ$ and can exceed $SUSY$ box contribution by up to two orders of magnitude when $\tanβ\sim m_t/m_b$.
In light of the Higgs discovery and the nonobservation of sparticles at the LHC, we revisit the SUSY induced top quark flavor changing decay into the Higgs boson. We perform a scan over the relevant SUSY parameter space by considering the constraints from the Higgs mass measurement, the LHC search for SUSY, the vacuum stability, the precision electro-weak observables as well as $B \to X_s γ$. We have the following observations: (1) In the MSSM, the branching ratio of $ t \to c h$ can only reach $3.0\times10^{-6}$, which is about one order smaller than previous results obtained before the adven…
We analyze constraints on low-energy flavour-changing sfermion mass terms, coming from FCNC and CP violating processes, in the model-independent framework of the mass insertion method. We discuss the relevance of these constraints as tests of supersymmetric extensions of the standard model; in particular, we consider grand-unified models and models with non-universal soft breaking terms.
We compute the finite renormalisation of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix induced by gluino-squark diagrams in the MSSM with non-minimal sources of flavour violation. Subsequently we derive bounds on the flavour-off-diagonal elements of the squark mass matrices by requiring that the radiative corrections to the CKM elements do not exceed the experimental values. Our constraints on the associated dimensionless quantities delta^{d LR}_{ij}, j>i, are stronger than the bounds from flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes if gluino and squarks are heavier than 500 GeV. Our bound …
Motivated by the search for flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) top quark decays at the LHC, we calculate rare Higgs three body decay $H\rightarrow Wbc$ induced by top-Higgs FCNC coupling in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity(LHT). We find that the branching ratios of $H\rightarrow Wbc$ in the LHT model can reach $\mathcal O(10^{-7})$ in the allowed parameter space.
The Large Hadron Collider is the world's largest and highest center-of-mass energy particle accelerator. During the Phase I operation it is expected that the LHC operated at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV will deliver to the CMS experiment total integrated luminosity of $\sim$300 fb$^{-1}$ till 2023. The High Luminosity LHC upgrade is expected to run at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV and will allow ATLAS and CMS to collect integrated luminosities of the order of 300 fb$^{-1}$ per year, and up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$ during the HL-LHC projected lifetime of ten years. The large expected integrat…
Our main aim in this paper is to present detailed studies to probe the top quark flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) interactions at $tqg$, $tqγ$, $tqH$ and $tqZ (σ^{μν}, γ_μ)$ vertices in the triple-top signal $p p \to t \bar t t \, (\bar t t \bar t)$ at the high energy proposal of Large Hadron Collider (HE-LHC) and future circular hadron-hadron collider (FCC-hh). To this end, we investigate the production of three top quarks which arises from the FCNC couplings taken into account the fast simulation at $\sqrt{s} = 27$ TeV of HE-LHC and 100 TeV of FCC-hh considering the integrated luminosi…
These two lectures constitute a reappraisal and an update of the status of the Flavour Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) and CP violation issues in supersymmetry. The first lecture discusses these points in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), while the second one provides an analysis in a generic low-energy supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. The goal of these lectures is twofold: on one hand we present a qualitative and quantitative discussion of the threat that FCNC and CP violation represent on supersymmetry model building; on the other hand, we poin…
We have studied the sensitivity to flavor changing neutral current interaction of top and Higgs boson at the future circular collider in the hadron-hadron collision mode (FCC-hh). Our main concerns are the processes of $pp\rightarrow th$ (FCNC production) and $pp\rightarrow t\bar{t}$ (one top FCNC decay) which contributes to the single lepton, at least three jets and the missing energy transverse in the final state. On the one hand FCC-hh offers very high luminosity and large cross section for these signal processes, on the other hand signal can be distinguished from background which needs app…
We construct explicit examples with a horizontal, ``anomalous'' $U(1)$ gauge group, which, in a supersymmetric extension of the standard model, reproduce qualitative features of the fermion spectrum and CKM matrix, and suppress FCNC and proton decay rates without the imposition of global symmetries. We review the motivation for such ``more'' minimal supersymmetric standard models and their predictions for the sparticle spectrum. There is a mass hierarchy in the scalar sector which is the inverse of the fermion mass hierarchy. We show in detail why DeltaS = 2 FCNC are suppressed when compared w…
In this paper, we study the single top and Higgs associated production $pp \to thj$ in the presence of top-Higgs FCNC couplings($κ_{tqh}, q=u,c$) at the LHC. Under the current constraints, we find that the cross section of $pp \to thj$ can be sizably enhanced in comparison with the SM predictions at 8 and 14 TeV LHC. We also find that the full cross section of $pp \to thj$ with $κ_{tch}$ is larger than the resonant cross section of $pp \to t\bar{t} \to thj$ by a factor 1.16 at 8 TeV LHC and 1.12 at 14 TeV LHC, respectively. We further explore the observability of top-Higgs FCNC couplings throu…
Single top quark production is a powerful process to search for new physics signs. In this work we propose and investigate a search for top quark flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) via a photon using direct single top quark production events in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at CERN. We show that the direct single top quark final state can provide constraints on the strengths of tq$γ$ (top-quark-$γ$) and tqg (top-quark-gluon) FCNC couplings simultaneously. Results of a search for direct single top quark production at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV performed by the ATLAS …
We compute the partial width of the FCNC top quark decay t->c h in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, where h = h0, H0, A0 is any of the neutral Higgs of the MSSM. We include the SUSY electroweak, Higgs, and SUSY-QCD contributions. Our results substantially improve previous estimations on the subject, and we find that there is a possibility that they can be measured at LHC.
Anomalous b --> s transitions from LHCb data may suggest a new massive gauge boson Z' that couples to the left-handed b --> s current, which in turn implies a coupling to the t --> c current. In this paper, we study flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) decays of the top quark induced by a Z' boson, namely t --> c Z', based on a model of the gauged L_mu - L_tau symmetry (the difference between the muon and tauon numbers) with vector-like quarks, which was introduced to explain the anomalous LHCb data. We illustrate that searching for t --> c Z' via Z' --> mu^+ mu^- with LHC Run 1 data can alr…
We discuss an extended standard model electroweak sector which contains a stable scalar dark matter particle, the D boson. To search for the D boson at the LHC we exploit the flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) top quark decay, t->c D D, mediated by the lightest standard model-like Higgs h^0 in a two Higgs doublet model framework. The branching ratio for t->c D D in this case can be as high as 10^{-3}, after taking into account constraints arising from the D boson relic abundance. With an integrated luminosity of 10 (100) fb^{-1}, the 14 TeV LHC can explore values of this branching ratio th…
The topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model predicts several pseudo-scalars called top-pions and at loop level they can induce the FCNC top quark decay t->cgg which is extremely suppressed in the Standard Model (SM). We find that in the allowed parameter space the TC2 model can greatly enhance such a FCNC decay and push the branching ratio up to 10^{-3}, which is much larger than the predictions in the SM (10^{-9}) and in the minimal supersymmetric model (10^{-4}). We also compare the result with the two-body FCNC decay t-> cg and find that the branching ratio of t-> cgg is slightly larger t…
In this paper we show that the diphoton mass spectrum in proton-proton collisions at the LHC is sensitive to the top quark flavor changing neutral current in the vertices of $tuγ$ and $tcγ$. The diphoton mass spectrum measured by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb$^{-1}$ is used as an example to set limits on these FCNC couplings. It is also shown that the angular distribution of the diphotons is sensitive to anomalous $tuγ$ and $tcγ$ couplings and it is a powerful tool to probe any value of the branching fraction of top qu…
In the context of Supersymmetric Grand Unified theories with soft breaking terms arising at the Planck scale, it is generally possible to link flavor changing neutral current and CP violating processes occurring in the leptonic and hadronic sectors. We study the correlation between flavor changing squark and slepton mass insertions in models à la SU(5). We show that the constraints coming from lepton flavor violation exhibit a strong impact on CP-violating B decays.
We consider a Z' model where the Z' boson couples only to up and top quarks. As a simple setup, one can consider a family-dependent $U(1)'$ symmetry, under which only right-handed up-type quarks are charged. After symmetry breaking, the right-handed quarks mix with each other and top flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNCs) mediated by the Z' boson can be generated at tree level. We take into account several processes to probe the top FCNCs, and find that the same sign top quark pair production or the triple top quark production is the most capable of testing the top FCNCs. We also consider a …
The solution to the supersymmetric FCNC problem may not have a simple field theory interpretation. Here I advocate a possibility based on string selection rules. The requirement of non--trivial Yukawa structures restricts the form of the soft terms such that the FCNC problem often does not arise.
We present a comprehensive analysis of the loop induced top quark FCNC signals at the LHC within one class of the simplified model. The loop level FCNC interactions are well motivated to avoid the hierarchy of the top quark couplings from the new physics and standard model. Such a theory will posit a Majorana dark matter candidate and could be tested through dark matter relic density, direct detection experiments (the scattering between dark matter and heavy nuclei), and the collider signals at the LHC. We find that the spin-independent (SI) scattering between Majorana dark matter and nuclei w…
