We study Hamiltonian spaces associated with pairs (E,A), where E is a Courant algebroid and A\subset E is a Dirac structure. These spaces are defined in terms of morphisms of Courant algebroids with suitable compatibility conditions. Several of their properties are discussed, including a reduction procedure. This set-up encompasses familiar moment map theories, such as group-valued moment maps, and it provides an intrinsic approach from which different geometrical descriptions of moment maps can be naturally derived. As an application, we discuss the relationship between quasi-Poisson and presymplectic groupoids.
We propose a definition of Jacobi quasi-Nijenhuis algebroid and show that any such Jacobi algebroid has an associated quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid. Therefore, also an associated Courant-Jacobi algebroid is obtained. We introduce the notions of quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid morphism and Courant-Jacobi algebroid morphism providing also some examples of Courant-Jacobi algebroid morphisms.
We propose a definition of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis Lie algebroids as a natural generalization of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds and show that any such Lie algebroid has an associated quasi-Lie bialgebroid. Therefore, also an associated Courant algebroid is obtained. We introduce the notion of a morphism of quasi-Lie bialgebroids and of the induced Courant algebroids morphism and provide some examples of Courant algebroid morphisms. Finally, we use paired operators to deform doubles of Lie and quasi-Lie bialgebroids and find an application to generalized complex geometry.
Courant algebroids provide a useful mathematical tool (not only) in string theory. It is thus important to define and examine their morphisms. To some extent, this was done before using an analogue of canonical relations known from symplectic geometry. However, it turns out that applications in physics require a more general notion. We aim to provide a self-contained and detailed treatment of Courant algebroid relations and morphisms. A particular emphasis is placed on providing enough motivating examples. In particular, we show how Poisson-Lie T-duality and Kaluza-Klein reduction of supergrav…
We propose a generalization of the momentum map on a symplectic manifold with a Lie algebra action to a Courant algebroid structure. The theory of a momentum section on a Lie algebroid is generalized to the theory compatible with a Courant algebroid. As an example, we identify the momentum section in a constrained Hamiltonian mechanics with Courant algebroid symmetry. Moreover, we construct cohomological formulations by considering the BFV and BV formalism of this Hamiltonian system. The Weil algebra for this structure is constructed.
We present a theory of reduction for Courant algebroids as well as Dirac structures, generalized complex, and generalized Kähler structures which interpolates between holomorphic reduction of complex manifolds and symplectic reduction. The enhanced symmetry group of a Courant algebroid leads us to define \emph{extended} actions and a generalized notion of moment map. Key examples of generalized Kähler reduced spaces include new explicit bi-Hermitian metrics on $\CC P^2$.
We prove that symplectic quasi-states and quasi-morphisms on a symplectic manifold descend under symplectic reduction on a superheavy level set of a Hamiltonian torus action. Using a construction due to Abreu and Macarini, in each dimension at least four we produce a closed symplectic toric manifold with infinite dimensional spaces of symplectic quasi-states and quasi-morphisms, and a one-parameter family of non-displaceable Lagrangian tori. By using McDuff's method of probes, we also show how Ostrover and Tyomkin's method for finding distinct spectral quasi-states in symplectic toric Fano man…
For any coadjoint orbit $G/L$, we determine all useful terms of the associated Savelyev-Seidel morphism defined on $H_{-*}(ΩG)$. Immediate consequences are: (1) the dimension of the kernel of the natural map $π_*(G)\otimes \mathbb{Q}\rightarrow π_*(Ham(G/L))\otimes \mathbb{Q}$ is at most the semi-simple rank of $L$, and (2) the Bott-Samelson cycles in $ΩG$ which correspond to Peterson elements are solutions to the min-max problem for Hofer's max-length functional on $ΩHam(G/L)$. The proof is based on Bae-Chow-Leung's recent computation of Ma'u-Wehrheim-Woodward morphism for the moment correspo…
In this paper, we solve the problem of giving a gauge-theoretic description of the natural Dirac structure on a Lie Group which plays a prominent role in the theory of D- branes for the Wess-Zumino-Witten model as well as the theory of quasi-Hamiltonian spaces. We describe the structure as an infinite-dimensional reduction of the space of connections over the circle. Our insight is that the formal Poisson structure on the space of connections is not an actual Poisson structure, but is itself a Dirac structure, due to the fact that it is defined by an unbounded operator. We also develop general…
In this note the interrelations between several natural morphisms on the $π_1$ of groups of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms are investigated. As an application, the equality of the (non-linear) Maslov index of loops of quantomorphisms of prequantizations of $\C P^n$ and the Calabi-Weinstein invariant is shown, settling affirmatively a conjecture by A. Givental. We also prove the proportionality of the mixed action-Maslov morphism and the Futaki invariant on loops of Hamiltonian biholomorphisms of Fano Kahler manifolds, as suggested by C. Woodward. Finally, a family of generalized action-Maslov inv…
Given a Lie group acting on a manifold $M$ preserving a closed $n+1$-form $ω$, the notion of homotopy moment map for this action was introduced in Callies-Fregier-Rogers-Zambon [6], in terms of $L_{\infty}$-algebra morphisms. In this note we describe homotopy moment maps as coboundaries of a certain complex. This description simplifies greatly computations, and we use it to study various properties of homotopy moment maps: their relation to equivariant cohomology, their obstruction theory, how they induce new ones on mapping spaces, and their equivalences. The results we obtain extend some of …
In this paper we deal with a Hamiltonian action of a reductive algebraic group $G$ on an irreducible normal affine Poisson variety $X$. We study the invariant moment map $ψ_{G,X}:X\to \g$, that is, the composition of the moment map $μ_{G,X}:X\to g:=Lie(G)$ and the quotient morphism $g\to g\quo G$. We obtain some results on the dimensions of fibers of $ψ_{G,X}$ and the corresponding morphism of quotients $X\quo G\to g\quo G$. We also study the "Stein factorisation" of $ψ_{G,X}$. Namely, let $C_{G,X}$ denote the spectrum of the integral closure of $ψ_{G,X}^*(K[g]^G)$ in $K(X)^G$. We investigate …
Associated to any manifold equipped with a closed form of degree >1 is an `L-infinity algebra of observables' which acts as a higher/homotopy analog of the Poisson algebra of functions on a symplectic manifold. In order to study Lie group actions on these manifolds, we introduce a theory of homotopy moment maps. Such a map is a L-infinity morphism from the Lie algebra of the group into the observables which lifts the infinitesimal action. We establish the relationship between homotopy moment maps and equivariant de Rham cohomology, and analyze the obstruction theory for the existence of such m…
We construct a compactification of the moduli space of twisted holomorphic maps with varying complex structure and bounded energy. For a given compact symplectic manifold $X$ with a compatible complex structure and a Hamiltonian action of $S^1$ with moment map $μ:X\to\imag\RR$, the moduli space which we compactify consists of equivalence classes of tuples $(C,P,A,ϕ)$, where $C$ is a smooth compact complex curve of fixed genus, $P$ is a principal $S^1$ bundle over $C$, $A$ is a connection on $P$ and $ϕ$ is a section of $P\times_{S^1}X$ satisfying $$\ov{\partial}_Aϕ=0,\qquad ι_{v}F_A+μ(ϕ)=c,$$ w…
