We study gauge-string duality of D3-branes localized at a point on the resolution of the ALE orbifold $\IC^3/\IZ_3$. By explicitly solving for the warp factor, we demonstrate the holographic RG flow from $AdS_5 \times S^5/\IZ_3$ (far away from the resolution) to the usual $AdS_5\times S^5$ (close to the stack). On the gauge theory side, this maps to the flow between the quiver gauge theory and ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang-Mills. We present two possible scenarios for this RG flow depending on the choice of the VEVs. In particular, one of the scenarios proceeds by two steps involving both Higgsing and confinement.
We have analyzed the breakdown of global supersymmetry by a non-vanishing expectation value of the fifth component of the graviphoton on warped S^1/Z_2 orbifolds. It has been demonstrated that the setups where such a breakdown is possible correspond to the models where the true gauge symmetry on the orbifold, respecting the Z_2-parities and periodicity, is broken by boundary terms. In the tuned models, giving Randall-Sundrum warp factor, gauge symmetry stays intact, and any <A_5> can be gauged away without violating supersymmetry.
We solve the Einstein equations in higher dimensions with warped geometry where an extra dimension is assumed to have orbifold symmetry $S^{1}/Z_{2}$. The setup considered here is an extension of the five-dimensional Randall-Sundrum model to $5+D$ dimensions, and hidden and observable branes are fixed on the orbifold. It is assumed that the brane tension (self-energy) of each brane with $(4+D)$-dimensional spacetime is anisotropic and that the warped metric function of the four dimensions is generally different from that of the extra $D$ dimensions. We point out that the forms of the warped me…
The anomalies in five-dimensional orbifold theories are examined in a generic type of non-factorizable geometries. In spite of complicated fermion wavefunctions, the shape of anomaly is found to be identical to that of flat theories. In particular it is split evenly on the orbifold fixed points. This result also follows from the arguments on the AdS/CFT correspondence and an anomaly cancellation mechanism. The cancellation with Chern-Simons term works if the four-dimensional effective theory is free from chiral anomalies. We also discuss the Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) term in warped supersymmetric …
We examine the quantization of fluxes for the warped Stiefel cone and Stenzel geometries and their orbifolds, and distinguish the roles of three related notions of charge: Page, Maxwell, and brane. The orbifolds admit discrete torsion, and we describe the associated quantum numbers which are consistent with the geometry in its large radius and small radius limits from both the type IIA and the M-theory perspectives. The discrete torsion, measured by a Page charge, is related to the number of fractional branes. We relate the shifts in the Page charges under large gauge transformations to the Ha…
Braneworld inflation on the resolved warped deformed conifold is represented by the dynamics of a D3-brane probe with the world volume of a brane spanning the large dimensions of the observable Universe. This model was recently proposed as a string theory candidate for slow-roll inflationary cosmology in hep-th/0511254. During inflation, the scalar curvature of the Universe is determined by the Hubble scale. We argue that taking into account the curvature of the inflationary Universe renders dynamics of the D3-brane fast-roll deep inside the warped throat.
We discuss the resolution of toroidal orbifolds. For the resulting smooth Calabi-Yau manifolds, we calculate the intersection ring and determine the divisor topologies. In a next step, the orientifold quotients are constructed.
A warped resolved conifold background of type IIB theory, constructed in hep-th/0701064, is dual to the supersymmetric $SU(N)\times SU(N)$ gauge theory with a vacuum expectation value (VEV) for one of the bifundamental chiral superfields. This VEV breaks both the superconformal invariance and the baryonic symmetry. The absolute value of the VEV controls the resolution parameter of the conifold. In this paper we study the phase of the VEV, which corresponds to the Goldstone boson of the broken symmetry. We explicitly construct the linearized perturbation of the 4-form R-R potential that contain…
The Mirabelli-Peskin model is a 5D super-Yang-Mills theory compactified on an orbifold $S^1/Z_2$ with the 4D Wess-Zumino model localized on the boundaries (or branes). As the 5D gauge multiplet couples to 4D chiral multiplets through delta functions, the model contains singular terms proportional to $δ(0)$ after integrating out a 5D auxiliary field. This belongs to the same type of singularity as what was first noticed by Horava in the orbifold compactification of heterotic string theory. Mirabelli-Peskin showed that this singularity was field-theoretically harmless by demonstrating its neat c…
We discuss the Kaluza-Klein threshold correction to low energy gauge couplings in theories with warped extra-dimension, which might be crucial for the gauge coupling unification when the warping is sizable. Explicit expressions of one-loop thresholds are derived for generic 5D gauge theory on a slice of AdS_5, where some of the bulk gauge symmetries are broken by orbifold boundary conditions and/or by bulk Higgs vacuum values. Effects of the mass mixing between the bulk fields with different orbifold parities are included as such mixing is required in some class of realistic warped unification…
It is observed that three-dimensional Gödel black holes can be promoted to exact string theory backgrounds through an orbifold of an hyperbolic asymmetric marginal deformation of the SL(2,R) WZW model. Tachyons are found in the spectrum of long strings. Uplifting these solutions in type IIB supergravity, extremal black holes are shown to preserve one supersymmetry in accordance with the BTZ limit. We also make connections with some recently discussed warped black hole solutions of topologically massive gravity, showing that they actually correspond to quotients of spacelike squashed AdS_3.
We discuss a simple transformation that allows to generate SU(3) structure solutions of Type IIB supergravity with RR fluxes, starting from non-Kahler solutions of Type I supergravity. The method may be applied also in the presence of supersymmetric source branes. We apply this transformation to a solution describing fivebranes wrapped on the two-sphere of the resolved conifold with additional flavour fivebrane sources. The resulting solution is a generalisation of the resolved deformed conifold solution of Butti et al. by the addition of D5 brane and D3 brane sources. We propose that this sol…
We study supergravity backgrounds encoded through the gauge/string correspondence by the SU(N) \times SU(N) theory arising on N D3-branes on the conifold. As discussed in hep-th/9905104, the dynamics of this theory describes warped versions of both the singular and the resolved conifolds through different (symmetry breaking) vacua. We construct these supergravity solutions explicitly and match them with the gauge theory with different sets of vacuum expectation values of the bi-fundamental fields A_1, A_2, B_1, B_2. For the resolved conifold, we find a non-singular SU(2)\times U(1)\times U(1) …
We calculate quark-antiquark potentials using the relationship between the expectation value of the Wilson loop and the action of a probe string in the string dual. We review and categorize the possible forms of the dependence of the energy on the separation between the quarks. In particular, we examine the possibility of there being a minimum separation for probe strings which do not penetrate close to the origin of the bulk space, and derive a condition which determines whether this is the case. We then apply these considerations to the flavoured resolved deformed conifold background of Gail…
We study the five-dimensional (5D) supergravity compactified on an orbifold S^1/Z_2, where the U(1)_R symmetry is gauged by the graviphoton with Z_2-even coupling. In contrast to the case of gauging with Z_2-odd coupling, this class of models has Majorana-type masses and allows the Scherk-Schwarz (SS) twist even in the warped spacetime. Starting from the off-shell formulation, we show that the supersymmetry is always broken in an orbifold slice of AdS_5, irrespective of the value of the SS twist parameter. We analyze the spectra of gaugino and gravitino in such background, and find the SS twis…
We discuss Fayet-Iliopoulos terms in the context of five-dimensional supergravity compactified on an orbifold. For this purpose we use our superfield formulation of the off-shell 5D SUGRA. In the case of tuned FI terms, contrary to other claims, we find BPS solutions which ensure that N=1 supersymmetry is unbroken also in warped geometries. As in the rigid case, the FI terms induce odd masses for charged hypermultiplets, leading to the (de)localisation of the KK wave-functions near the fix-point branes. In the case of ungauged U(1)_R symmetry, we present also supersymmetric warped solutions in…
We construct supergravity solutions describing a stack of D3-branes localized at a point on a blown-up cycle of a resolved L^{a,b,c} cone. The geometry flows from AdS_5 x L^{a,b,c} to AdS_5 x S^5/Z_k. The corresponding quiver gauge theory undergoes an RG flow between two superconformal fixed points, which leads to semi-infinite chains of flows between the various L^{a,b,c} fixed points. The general system is described by a triplet of Heun equations which can each be solved by an expansion with a three-term recursion relation, though there are closed-form solutions for certain cases. This enabl…
We construct an MSSM with three generations from the heterotic string compactified on a smooth 6D internal manifold using Abelian gauge fluxes only. The compactification space is obtained as a resolution of the T6/Z2xZ2xZ2-free orbifold. The Z2-free involution of such a resolution breaks the SU(5) GUT group down to the SM gauge group using a suitably chosen (freely acting) Wilson line. Surprisingly, the spectrum on a given resolution is larger than the one on the corresponding orbifold taking into account the branching and Higgsing due to the blow-up modes. The existence of extra resolution st…
We have investigated the features of the gauge vector field in a braneworld scenario built as a warped product between a 3-brane and a 2-cycle of the resolved conifold. This scenario allowed us to study how the gauge field behaves when the transverse manifold evolves upon a geometric flow that controls the singularity at the origin. Besides, since the transverse manifold has a cylindrical symmetry according to the 3-brane, this geometry can be regarded as a near brane correction of the string-like branes. Indeed, by means of a new warp function and the angular metric component of the resolved …
A very general class of resolved versions of the C/Z_N, T^2/Z_N and S^1/Z_2 orbifolds is considered and the free theory of 6D chiral fermions studied on it. As the orbifold limit is taken, localized 4D chiral massless fermions are seen to arise at the fixed points. Their number, location and chirality is found to be independent on the detailed profile of the resolving space and to agree with the result of hep-th/0409229, in which a particular resolution was employed. As a consistency check of the resolution procedure, the massive equation is numerically studied. In particular, for S^1/Z_2, the…
Toroidal orbifolds and their resolutions are described within the framework of (2,2) Gauged Linear Sigma Models (GLSMs). Our procedure describes two-tori as hypersurfaces in (weighted) projective spaces. The description is chosen such that the orbifold singularities correspond to the zeros of their homogeneous coordinates. The individual orbifold singularities are resolved using a GLSM guise of non-compact toric resolutions, i.e. replacing discrete orbifold actions by Abelian worldsheet gaugings. Given that we employ the same global coordinates for both the toroidal orbifold and its resolution…
We investigated the localization of the spinorial field in a braneworld built as a warped product between a 3-brane and a 2-cycle of the resolved conifold. This scenario provides a geometric flow that controls the singularity at the origin and changes the properties of the fermion in this background. Furthermore, due the cylindrical symmetry according to the 3-brane and a smoothed warp factor, this geometry can be regarded as a near brane correction of the string-like branes. This geometry allows a normalizable and well-defined massless mode whose decay and value on the brane depend on the res…
We describe the construction of string theory models with semirealistic spectrum in a sector of (anti) D3-branes located at an orbifold singularity at the bottom of a highly warped throat geometry, which is a generalisation of the Klebanov-Strassler deformed conifold. These models realise the Randall-Sundrum proposal to naturally generate the Planck/electroweak hierarchy in a concrete string theory embedding, and yielding interesting chiral open string spectra. We describe examples with Standard Model gauge group (or left-right symmetric extensions) and three families of SM fermions, with corr…
Spinor-vector dualities have been established in various exact string realisations like orbifold and free fermionic constructions. This paper aims to investigate possibility of having spinor-vector dualities on smooth geometries in the context of the heterotic string. As a concrete working example the resolution of the T4/Z2 orbifold is considered with an additional circle supporting a Wilson line, for which it is known that the underlying orbifold theory exhibits such a duality by switching on/off a generalised discrete torsion phase between the orbifold twist and the Wilson line. Depending o…
We give an alternative description of the Schoen manifold as the blow-up of a Z2xZ2 orbifold in which one Z2 factor acts as a roto-translation. Since for this orbifold the fixed tori are only identified in pairs but not orbifolded, four-dimensional chirality can never be obtained in heterotic string compactifications using standard techniques alone. However, chirality is recovered when its tori become magnetized. To exemplify this, we construct an E8xE8' heterotic SU(5) GUT on the Schoen manifold with Abelian gauge fluxes, which becomes an MSSM with three generations after an appropriate Wilso…
We obtain a family of heterotic supergravity backgrounds describing non-Kahler warped conifolds with three-form flux and an Abelian gauge bundle, preserving N=1 supersymmetry in four dimensions. At large distance from the singularity the usual Ricci-flat conifold is recovered. By performing a Z_2 orbifold of the T^{1,1} base, the conifold singularity can be blown-up to a four-cycle, leading to a completely smooth geometry. Remarkably, the throat regions of the solutions, which can be isolated from the asymptotic Ricci-flat geometry using a double-scaling limit, possess a worldsheet CFT descrip…
Instantons on Eguchi-Hanson spaces provide explicit examples of stable bundles on non-compact four dimensional C^2/Z_n orbifold resolutions with non-Abelian structure groups. With this at hand, we can consider compactifications of ten dimensional SO(32) supergravity (arising as the low energy limit of the heterotic string) on the resolved spaces in the presence of non-Abelian bundles. We provide explicit examples in the resolved C^2/Z_3 case, and give a complete classification of all possible effective six dimensional models where the instantons are combined with Abelian gauge fluxes in order …
We have studied the localization of scalar field on a 3-brane embedded in a six dimensional warped bulk of the form $M_{4}\times C_{2}$, where $M_{4}$ is a 3-brane and $C_{2}$ is a 2-cycle of a six resolved conifold $\mathcal{C}_{6}$ over a $T^{1,1}$ space. Since the resolved conifold is singularity-free in $r=0$ depending on a resolution parameter $a$, we have analyzed the behavior of the localization of scalar field when we vary the resolution parameter. On one hand, this enable us to study the effects that a singularity has on the field. On the other hand we can use the resolution parameter…
We consider heterotic strings on a warped Eguchi-Hanson space with five-brane and line bundle gauge fluxes. The heterotic string admits an exact CFT description in terms of an asymmetrically gauged SU(2)xSL(2,R) WZW model, in a specific double scaling limit in which the blow-up radius and the string scale are sent to zero simultaneously. This allows us to compute the perturbative 6D spectra for these models in two independent fashions: i) Within the supergravity approximation we employ a representation dependent index; ii) In the double scaling limit we determine all marginal vertex operators …
We carry out a thorough analysis of the moduli space of the cascading gauge theory found on p D3-branes and M wrapped D5-branes at the tip of the conifold. We find various mesonic branches of the moduli space whose string duals involve the warped deformed conifold with different numbers of mobile D3-branes. The branes that are not mobile form a BPS bound state at threshold. In the special case where p is divisible by M there also exists a one-dimensional baryonic branch whose family of supergravity duals, the resolved warped deformed conifolds, was constructed recently. The warped deformed con…
We compare heterotic string models on orbifolds with supergravity models on smooth compact spaces, obtained by resolving the orbifold singularities. Our main focus is on heterotic E8xE8 models on the resolution of the compact T^6/Z_3 orbifold with Wilson lines. We explain how different gauge fluxes at various resolved fixed points can be interpreted in blow down as Wilson lines. Even when such Wilson lines are trivial from the orbifold perspective, they can still lead to additional symmetry breaking in blow-up. Full agreement is achieved between orbifold and resolved models, at the level of ga…
A thorough investigation is presented of the exact black hole solution on a warped five-dimensional spacetime in conformal dilaton gravity (CDG), found in earlier work. Summarized, we will prove: The black hole solution in the CDG model on a warped 5D spacetime: 1. It is an exact solution for the metric components as well as for the dilaton field. 2.The quintic polynomial describing the zero's of the model, has no essential singularities. 3.If we write $^{(5)}g_{μν}=ω^{4/3}{^{(5)}}{\tilde g_{μν}}, ^{(5)}\tilde g_{μν}=^{(4)}\tilde g_{μν}+n_μn_ν, ^{(4)}\tilde g_{μν}=\barω^2 {^{(4)}}\bar g{μν}$ t…
In this paper we obtain a model of Natural Inflation from string theory with a Planckian decay constant. We investigate D-brane dynamics in the background of the warped resolved conifold (WRC) throat approximation of Type IIB string compactifications on Calabi-Yau manifolds. When we glue the throat to a compact bulk Calabi-Yau, we generate a D-brane potential which is a solution to the Laplace equation on the resolved conifold. We can exactly solve this equation, including dependence on the angular coordinates. The solutions are valid down to the tip of the resolved conifold, which is not the …
We study the Dirac equation of chiral fermions on a regularized version of the two-dimensional T^2/Z_2 orbifold, where the conical singularities are replaced by suitable spherical caps with constant curvature. This study shows how localized and bulk fermions arise in the orbifold as the resolved space approaches the orbifold limit. Our analysis also shows that not all possible fermion configurations on T^2/Z_2 admit such a simple resolution. We focus our study to a fermion coupled to a U(1) gauge field. It is explicitly shown how a resolution of the orbifold puts severe constraints on the allo…
In this paper we apply decomposition to orbifolds with quantum symmetries to resolve anomalies. Briefly, it has been argued by e.g. Wang-Wen-Witten, Tachikawa that an anomalous orbifold can sometimes be resolved by enlarging the orbifold group so that the pullback of the anomaly to the larger group is trivial. For this procedure to resolve the anomaly, one must specify a set of phases in the larger orbifold, whose form is implicit in the extension construction. There are multiple choices of consistent phases, which give rise to physically distinct resolutions. We apply decomposition, and find …
We study the Penrose limit of various AdS_p X S^q orbifolds. The limiting spaces are waves with parallel rays and singular wave fronts. In particular, we consider the orbifolds AdS_3 X S^3/Γ, AdS_5 X S^5/Γand AdS_{4,7} X S^{7,4}/Γwhere Γacts on the sphere and/or the AdS factor. In the pp-wave limit, the wave fronts are the orbifolds C^2/Γ, C^4/Γand R XC^4/Γ, respectively. When desingularization is possible, we get asymptotically locally pp-wave backgrounds (ALpp). The Penrose limit of orientifolds are also discussed. In the AdS_5 X RP^5 case, the limiting singularity can be resolved by an Eguc…
The Selberg zeta function and trace formula are powerful tools used to calculate kinetic operator spectra and quasinormal modes on hyperbolic quotient spacetimes. In this article, we extend this formalism to non-hyperbolic quotients by constructing a Selberg zeta function for warped AdS$_3$ black holes. We also consider the so-called self-dual solutions, which are of interest in connection to near-horizon extremal Kerr. We establish a map between the zeta function zeroes and the quasinormal modes on warped AdS$_3$ black hole backgrounds. In the process, we use a method involving conformal coor…
Closed string tachyon condensation resolves the singularities of nonsupersymmetric orbifolds, however the resolved space typically has fewer D-brane charges than that of the orbifold. The description of the tachyon condensation process via a gauged linear sigma model enables one to track the topology as one passes from the sigma model's ``orbifold phase'' to its resolved, ``geometric phase,'' and thus to follow how the D-brane charges disappear from the effective spacetime dynamics. As a mathematical consequence, our results point the way to a formulation of a ``quantum McKay correspondence'' …
We study the holographic duals of type II and heterotic matrix string theories described by warped AdS_3 supergravities. By explicitly solving the linearized equations of motion around near horizon D-string geometries, we determine the spectrum of Kaluza-Klein primaries for type I, II supergravities on warped AdS_3 x S^7. The results match those coming from the dual two-dimensional gauge theories living on the D-string worldvolumes. We briefly discuss the connections with the N=(8,8), N=(8,0) orbifold superconformal field theories to which type IIB / heterotic matrix strings flow in the infrar…
We consider D3-branes at an orbifolded conifold whose horizon ${X_5}$ resolves into a smooth Einstein manifold which joins several copies of ${\bf T}^{1,1}$. We describe in details the resolution of the singular horizon ${X_5}$ and describe different types of two-cycles appearing in the resolution. For a large number of D3 branes, the AdS/CFT conjecture becomes a duality between type IIB string theory on $AdS_5 \times {X_5} $ and the ${\cal N} = 1$ field theory living on the D3 branes. We study the fractional branes as small perturbations of the string background and we reproduce the logarithm…
A generalized Randall sundrum model in six dimensional bulk is studied in presence of non-flat 3-branes at the orbifold fixed points. The warp factors for this model is determined in terms of multiple moduli and brane cosmological constant. We show that the requirements of a vanishingly small cosmological constant on the visible brane along with non-hierarchical moduli, each with scale close to Planck length, lead to a scenario where the 3-branes can not have any intermediate scale and have energy scales either close to Tev or close to Planck scale. Such a scenario can address both the gauge h…
This is the first of two papers studying localization of massive bulk fields on a bane in 5D anti-de Sitter spacetime, and some of their cosmological consequences. Here we focus on a massive 5D scalar, which is known to lack a localized mode, and discuss how a seeming discontinuity between this theory and the massless theory - known to support a localized zero mode - is resolved thanks to peculiar analytic properties of the massive two-point amplitude. Furthermore, we propose a boundary term that leads to the emergence of a massless localized mode in the massive theory. Last but not least, we …
We write down M2-branes on the resolved $C_4/Z_4$ orbifold space. The resolved spatial geometry is such that it interpolates between $R^2\times CP_3$ near the branes and $C_4/Z_4$ asymptotically. The near horizon geometry of these branes is a deformation of $AdS_4\times S^7/Z_4$. An interesting aspect is that for $k=4$ Chern-Simons theory coupling becomes vanishing near the IR cutoff leading to spontaneous compactification to type IIA.
In this work we attempt to bridge the gap between heterotic orbifold models and Calabi-Yau compactifications using gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) with (2,0) worldsheet supersymmetry. We associate a specific GLSM to a heterotic orbifold model with twisted states that have non-vanishing vacuum expectation values (VEVs): The charges of the GLSM superfields are essentially determined by the shifted momenta of these states. When a twisted state contains an oscillator excitation, a fermionic gauging is introduced on the worldsheet inducing a non-Abelian gauge bundle, e.g. the standard embedding.…
We study condensation of closed string tachyons living on defects, such as orbifold fixed planes and Neveu-Schwarz fivebranes. We argue that the high energy density of localized states decreases in the process of condensation of such tachyons. In some cases this means that $c_{eff}$ decreases along the flow; in others, $c_{eff}$ remains constant and the decreasing quantity is a closed string analog, $g_{cl}$, of the ``boundary entropy'' of D-branes. We discuss the non-supersymmetric orbifolds $C/Z_n$ and $C^2/Z_n$. In the first case tachyon condensation decreases $n$ and in some cases connects…
We discuss general properties of moduli stablization in KKLT scenarios in type IIB orientifold compactifications. In particular, we find conditions for the Kaehler potential to allow a KKLT scenario for a manifold X_6 without complex structure moduli, i.e. h_(2,1)(X_6)=0. This way, a whole class of type IIB orientifolds with h_(2,1)(X_6)=0 is ruled out. This excludes in particular all Z_N- and Z_N x Z_M-orientifolds X_6 with h_(2,1)(X_6)=0 for a KKLT scenario. This concerns Z_3, Z_7, Z_3 x Z_3, Z_4 x Z_4, Z_6 x Z_6 and Z_2 x Z_6' -both at the orbifold point and away from it. Furthermore, we pr…
We consider an infinite class of 5d supersymmetric gauge theories involving products of symplectic and unitary groups that arise from D4-branes at orbifold singularities in Type I' string theory. The theories are argued to be dual to warped AdS(6)x S4/Zn backgrounds in massive Type IIA supergravity. In particular, this demonstrates the existence of supersymmetric 5d fixed points of quiver type. We analyze the spectrum of gauge fields and charged states in the supergravity dual, and find a precise agreement with the symmetries and charged operators in the quiver theories. We also comment on oth…
We continue our study of codimension two solutions of warped space-time varying compactifications of string theory. In this letter we discuss a non-supersymmetric solution of the classical type IIB string theory with de Sitter gravity on a codimension two uncompactified part of spacetime. A non-zero positive value of the cosmological constant is induced by the presence of non-trivial stringy moduli, such as the axion-dilaton system for the type IIB string theory. Furthermore, the naked singularity of the codimension two solution is resolved by the presence of a small but non-zero cosmological …
The stability of the modular field in a warped brane world scenario has been a subject of interest for a long time. Goldberger \& Wise ( GW ) proposed a mechanism to achieve this by invoking a massive scalar field in the bulk space-time neglecting the back-reaction. In this work, we examine the possibility of stabilizing the modulus without bringing in any external scalar field. We show that instead of flat 3-branes as considered in Randall-Sundrum ( RS ) warped braneworld model, if one considers a more generalized version of warped geometry with de-Sitter 3-brane, then the brane vacuum energy…
In this brief report, we summarize our recent studies in brane cosmology in both string theory and M-Theory on $S^{1}/Z_{2}$. In such setups, we find that the radion is stable and its mass, with a very conservative estimation, can be of the order of $0. 1 \sim 0.01$ GeV. The hierarchy problem can be addressed by combining the large extra dimension, warped factor, and tension coupling mechanisms. Gravity is localized on the visible brane, and the spectrum of the gravitational Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes is discrete and can have a mass gap of TeV. The corrections to the 4D Newtonian potential from t…
We discuss consistent truncations of type IIB supergravity on resolved warped deformed conifolds with fluxes. These actions represent the gravitational duals to the baryonic branch deformation of the Klebanov-Strassler cascading gauge theory. As an application, we demonstrate that the baryonic branch is lifted in cascading gauge theory plasma.
Universality in anomaly flow by an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phase $θ_H$ is shown in the flat $M^4 \times (S^1/Z_2)$ spacetime and in the Randall-Sundrum (RS) warped space. We analyze $SU(2)$ gauge theory with doublet fermions. With orbifold boundary conditions the $U(1)$ part of gauge symmetry remains unbroken at $θ_H = 0$ and $π$. Chiral anomalies smoothly vary with $θ_H$ in the RS space. It is shown that anomaly coefficients associated with this anomaly flow are expressed in terms of the values of the wave functions of gauge fields at the UV and IR branes in the RS space. The anomaly coefficients …
$SO(11)$ gauge-Higgs grand unification in the Randall-Sundrum warped space is proposed. Orbifold boundary conditions and one brane scalar field reduce $SO(11)$ to the standard model symmetry, which is further broken to $SU(3)_C \times U(1)_{EM}$ by the Hosotani mechanism. In a minimal model quarks and leptons are contained in a multiplet in ${\bf 32}$ of $SO(11)$ in each generation. Proton decay is naturally suppressed by a conserved fermion number.
