Within a quark combination model, we study systematically the yields and rapidity spectra of various hadrons in central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 200$ GeV. We find that considering the difference in rapidity between net-quarks and newborn quarks, the data of multiplicities, rapidity distributions for $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p(\bar{p})$ and, in particular the ratios of charged antihadron to hadron as a function of rapidity, can be well described. The effect of net-quarks on various hadrons is analysed, and the rapidity distributions for $K^{0}_{s}$, $Λ(\barΛ)$, $Σ^{+}(\barΣ^{_-})$, $\mathrm{Ξ^{-}}$ ($\mathrm{\barΞ^{_+}}$) and $\mathrm{Ω^{-}}(\mathrm{\barΩ}^{_+})$ are predicted. We discuss the rapidity distribution of net-baryon, and find that it reflects exactly the energy loss of colliding nuclei.
We show that the remaining internal longitudinal flow of colliding quarks in nuclei offers a natural explanation for the diversity of rapidity spectral shapes observed in Pb--Pb 158AGeV nuclear collisions. Thus QGP sudden hadronization reaction picture is a suitable approach to explain the rapidity spectra of hadrons produced.
The production of jet pairs with small transverse momentum and large relative rapidity in high energy hadron-hadron collisions is studied. The rise of the parton-level cross section with increasing rapidity gap is a fundamental prediction of the BFKL `perturbative pomeron' equation of Quantum Chromodynamics. However, at fixed collider energy it is difficult to disentangle this effect from variations in the cross section due to the parton distributions. It is proposed to study instead the distribution in the azimuthal angle difference of the jets as a function of the rapidity gap. The flattenin…
It is shown that charged hadron multiplicity distributions in restricted (pseudo)rapidity intervals in e+e- annihilation and in e+p scattering at HERA are quite well described by the modified negative binomial distribution and its simple extension.
In this talk we review the models describing the hard diffractive production of jets or more generally high-mass states in presence of rapidity gaps in hadron-hadron and lepton-hadron collisions. By rapidity gaps we mean regions on the lego plot in (pseudo)-rapidity and azimuthal angle where no hadrons are produced, between the jet(s) and an elastically scattered hadron (single hard diffraction) or between two jets (double hard diffraction).
The calculation of inclusive spectra of pions produced in $pp$ and $AA$ collisions as a function of rapidity $y$ is presented within the self-similarity approach. It is shown that at not large rapidities $y$ one can obtain the analytical form of the self-similarity function $Π(y,p_t)$ dependent of $y$ and hadron transverse momentum $p_t$. A satisfactory description of data on the rapidity spectra at $|y|\leq$ 0.3 is illustrated within a good agreement. The universal energy dependence of these spectra is also shown.
In a recent paper (arXiv:1403.5221), Kang et al.proposed the so-called "rapidity factorization" for the single inclusive forward hadron production in pA collisions. We point out that the leading small-x logarithm was mis-identified in this paper, and hence the newly added next-to-leading order correction term is unjustified and should be absent in view of the small-x factorization.
We describe a new method, based on an extension of the unitarity cutting rules proposed earlier, which is very efficient for the algorithmic evaluation of phase-space integrals for various differential distributions. As a first application, we compute the next-to-leading order normalized rapidity distribution of the CP-even and the CP-odd Higgs boson produced in hadron collisions through gluon fusion. We work in the heavy top-quark approximation; we find that the NLO corrections at the LHC are approximately 5% in the zero rapidity region.
We discuss the process $p+p\to h_1+h_2+X$, where the identified hadrons $h_1$ and $h_2$ have large transverse momenta and are produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions with a large rapidity gap between them. In this case the (calculable) hard part of the reaction receives large higher order corrections $\sim α^n_s\ln^n Δy$, which can be accounted for in the BFKL approach. Specifically, we describe in the next-to-leading order the calculation of the vertex (impact-factor) for the inclusive production of the identified hadron.
We calculate the probability for rapidity gaps in the parton cascade for different approximations within the perturbative QCD and compare the results with recent measurements. The aim is to find out whether the dual connection between the parton and hadron final states -- observed so far in various inclusive measurements -- holds as well for the extreme kinematic configurations with colour sources separated by large rapidity gaps. A description of the data is possible indeed choosing the parameters of the cascade in the range suggested by recent analyses of the energy spectra (the $k_\perp$ cu…
The multiplicity per rapidity of the well-identified particles $π^{-}$, $π^{+}$, $k^{-}$, $k^{+}$, $\bar{p}$, $p$, and $p-\bar{p}$ measured in different high-energy experiments, at energies ranging from $6.3$ to $5500~$GeV, are successfully compared with the Cosmic Ray Monte Carlo (CRMC) event generator. For these rapidity distributions, we introduce a theoretical approach based on fluctuations and correlations (Carruthers) and another one based on statistical thermal assumptions (hadron resonance gas model). Both approaches are fitted to the two sets of results deduced from experiments and si…
Threshold enhanced perturbative QCD corrections to rapidity distributions of $Z$ and $W^\pm$ bosons at hadron colliders are presented using the Sudakov resummed cross sections at N${}^3$LO level. We have used renormalisation group invariance and the mass factorisation theorem that these hard scattering cross sections satisfy to construct the QCD amplitudes. We show that these higher order threshold QCD corrections stabilise the theoretical predictions for vector boson production at the LHC under variations of both renormalisation and factorisation scales.
We consider the inclusive process where a pair of identified hadrons having large transverse momenta is produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions. We concentrate on the kinematics where the two identified hadrons in the final state are separated by a large interval of rapidity. In this case the cross section receives large higher-order corrections, which can be resummed in the BFKL approach. We provide a theoretical input for the resummation of such contributions with next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. This process has much in common with the widely discussed Mueller-Navelet jets pro…
The self-consistent approach based on similarity of inclusive spectra of hadrons produced in $pp$ and $AA$ collisions is reviewed. This approach allows us to describe rather well the ratio of proton to anti-proton yields in $AA$ collisions as a function of the initial energy at a wide range from a few GeV to a few TeV. We suggest its modification due to the quark-gluon dynamics to describe the inclusive spectra of hadrons produced in $pp$ collision as a function of the transverse momentum $p_t$ at mid-rapidity. The extension of this approach to analyze the pion $p_t$-spectra produced in $AA$ c…
We use the extended statistical thermal model to describe various hadron rapidity spectra at the highest RHIC energy (200 GeV/A). The model assumes the formation of hot and dense regions moving along the beam axis with increasing rapidities, yFB. It has been earlier shown that this model can explain the net proton flow i.e. p minus pbar, ratio pbar/p and the pion rapidity spectra. In this paper we have attempted to show that in addition to these quantities, this model can also successfully describe the individual rapidity spectra of protons, antiprotons, Kaons, antiKaons, pions, the ratios lam…
Measured multiplicity distributions of primary charged particles produced in the forward rapidity region of the $proton-proton$ ($pp$) collisions at the centre-of-mass energy, $\sqrt {s}$ = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have been analyzed in terms of the Negative Binomial Distribution (NBD) function. Like the multiplicity distributions in the mid-rapidity region for the $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt {s}$ = 7 TeV, the distributions for the minimum bias events in the forward region also are better described with the superposition of two-NBDs, as proposed by a two-component model of partic…
The quark combination mechanism of hadron production is applied to nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) and BNL Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS). The rapidity spectra of identified hadrons and their spectrum widths are studied. The data of $π^{-}$, $K^{\pm}$, $ϕ$, $Λ$, $\barΛ$, $Ξ^{-}$, and $\barΞ^{+}$ at 80 and 40 AGeV, in particular at 30 and 20 AGeV where the onset of deconfinement is suggested to happen, are consistently described by the quark combination model. However at AGS 11.6 AGeV below the onset the spectra of $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$ and $Λ$ can n…
We propose a model to describe diffractive events in hadron-hadron collisions where a rapidity gap is surrounded by two jets. The hard color-singlet object exchanged in the t-channel and responsible for the rapidity gap is described by the pQCD Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov Pomeron, including corrections due to next-to-leading logarithms. We allow the rapidity gap to be smaller than the inter-jet rapidity interval, and the corresponding soft radiation is modeled using the HERWIG Monte Carlo. Our model is able to reproduce all Tevatron data, and allows to estimate the jet-gap-jet cross section …
With the help of a phenomenological approach outlined in the text in some detail, we have dealt here with the description of the plots on rapidity and pseudorapidity spectra of some hadron-secondaries produced in various nucleus-nucleus interactions at high energies. The agreement between the measured data and the attempted fits are, on the whole, modestly satisfactory excepting a very narrow central region in the vicinity of y=$η$=0. At last, hints to how the steps suggested in the main body of the text to proceed with the description of the measured data given in the plots could lead finally…
We have attempted to describe the rapidity and transverse momentum spectra, simultaneously, of the hadrons produced in the Ultra-relativistic Nuclear Collisions. This we have tried to achieve in a single statistical thermal freeze-out model using single set of parameters. We assume the formation of a hadronic gas in thermo-chemical equilibrium at the freeze-out. The model incorporates a longitudinal as well as a transverse hydrodynamic flow. We have also found that the role of heavier hadronic resonance decay is important in explaining the particle spectra.
We consider within QCD collinear factorization the inclusive process $p+p\to h_1+h_2+X$, where the pair of identified hadrons, $h_1,h_2$, having large transverse momenta is produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions. In particular, we concentrate on the kinematics where the two identified hadrons in the final state are separated by a large interval of rapidity $Δy$. In this case the (calculable) hard part of the reaction receives large higher order corrections $\sim α^n_s Δy^n$. We provide a theoretical input for the resummation of such contributions with next-to-leading logarithmic accu…
We study the production of jet events containing large rapidity gaps in particle colliders due to the resolved photon mechanism. In particular, we analize these events at DESY HERA and future $e^+e^-$ linear colliders, including the possibility of $γγ$ laser backscattering beams. These events allow the study of the perturbative pomeron in environments complementary to the hadron-hadron colliders, and also provide insight into the survival probability of the rapidity gaps involving photon initial state.
Continuing previous work on collective variables properties in full phase space in hadron-hadron collisions in the TeV region our investigation is extended to multiplicity distributions and clan structure analysis in pseudo-rapidity intervals. Total multiplicity distributions (MDs) are considered also here as the weighted superposition of soft and semi-hard components, and described by Pascal(NB)MD. The soft component is characterised by KNO and Feynman scaling behaviour in all scenarios which differ in the semi-hard component properties only. In fact, the semi-hard component has been supposed…
Typically, a production of a particle with a small transverse momentum in hadron-hadron collisions is described by CSS-based TMD factorization at moderate Bjorken $x_B\sim 1$ and by $k_T$-factorization at small $x_B$. A uniform description valid for all $x_B$ is provided by rapidity-only TMD factorization developed in a series of recent papers at the tree level. In this paper the rapidity-only TMD factorization for particle production by gluon fusion is extended to the one-loop level.
We study the dependence of parton energy loss (quenching) on rapidity in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions at RHIC. This can provides invaluable information on the density of the medium, which should be more dilute going away from mid-rapidity, thereby reducing the effect of quenching. We predict a clear effect at moderate transverse momenta $\sim$ 3 GeV.
We propose a new procedure for parton-to-hadron fragmentation in proton-proton collisions. The hadronization is considered in the parton-parton center-of-mass system and hadrons are assumed to be emitted in the direction of outgoing partons in that frame and then their four-momenta are transformed to the overall center-of-mass system using relevant Lorentz transformations and appropriate distributions are constructed. For heavy hadron production the energy-momentum condition is imposed. In many cases our procedure disagrees with the commonly used rule that rapidity of produced hadron is the sa…
A model for the production of large rapidity gaps being implemented in the Monte Carlo event generator PHOJET is discussed. In this model, high-mass diffraction dissociation exhibits properties similar to hadron production in non-diffractive hadronic collisions at high energies. Hard diffraction is described using leading-order QCD matrix elements together with a parton distribution function for the pomeron and pomeron-flux factorization. Since this factorization is imposed on Born graph level only, unitarity corrections lead to a non-factorizing flux function. Rapidity gaps between jets are o…
We study the correlation of photon and charged lepton pseudorapidities, $η(γ)$ and $η(\ell)$, $\ell=e,\,μ$, in $p\,\pbar \rightarrow W^\pmγ+X\rightarrow \ell^\pm p\llap/_Tγ+X$. In the Standard Model, the $Δη(γ,\ell)= η(γ) - η(\ell)$ differential cross section is found to exhibit a pronounced dip at $Δη(γ,\ell) \approx \mp 0.3$ ($=0$)in $p\bar p$ ($pp$) collisions, which originates from the radiation zero present in $q\bar q'\rightarrow Wγ$. The sensitivity of the $Δη(γ,\ell)$ distribution to higher order QCD corrections, non-standard $WWγ$ couplings, the $W+$~jet ``fake'' background and the cu…
The azimuthal collimation of di-hadrons with large rapidity separations in high multiplicity p+p collisions at the LHC is described in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective theory [1] by N_c^2 suppressed multi-ladder QCD diagrams that are enhanced α_S^(-8) due to gluon saturation in hadron wavefunctions. We show that quantitative computations in the CGC framework are in good agreement with data from the CMS experiment on per trigger di-hadron yields and predict further systematics of these yields with varying trigger pT and charged hadron multiplicity. Radial flow generated by re-scatteri…
A 2-stage hybrid model is proposed that joins the fast initial state of interaction, described by the hadron string dynamics (HSD) model, to subsequent evolution of the expanding system at the second stage, treated within ideal hydrodynamics. The developed hybrid model is assigned to describe heavy-ion collisions in the energy range of the NICA collider under construction in Dubna. Generally, the model is in reasonable agreement with the available data on proton rapidity spectra. However, reproducing proton rapidity spectra, our hybrid model cannot describe the rapidity distributions of pions.…
It has been predicted that dilepton production may be used as a quark-gluon plasma probe. We calculate the rapidity distributions of thermal dileptons produced by an evolving quark-gluon plasma assuming a longitudinal scaling expansion with initial conditions locally determined from the hadronic rapidity density. These distributions are compared with Drell-Yan production and semileptonic charm decays at invariant mass $M = 2$, 4, and 6 GeV.
Models based on soft colour exchanges to rearrange colour strings in the final state provide a general framework for both diffractive and non-diffractive events in ep and hadron-hadron collisions. We study two such models and find that they can reproduce rapidity gap data from both HERA and the Tevatron. We also discuss the influence of parton cascades and multiple interactions on the results.
I discuss novel QCD phenomena recently observed in p+p, p+A and A+A collisions, that result from the non-linear dynamics of small-x gluons. I focus on di-hadron correlation measurements, as opposed to single-hadron observables often too inclusive to distinguish possible new effects from established mechanisms. Specifically, I discuss angular correlations of forward di-hadrons in d+Au collisions and long-range rapidity correlations in high-multiplicity p+p and Au+Au collisions.
We derive the probability for rapidity gaps in a parton cascade and investigate the dual connection with hadronic final states. A good description of observations in e+e- annihilations is obtained by perturbative QCD calculations in MLLA using previously determined parameters (QCD scale Λand k_T-cut-off Q_0) and applying the parton hadron duality picture. Further predictions are derived; especially, for gaps between jets at variable resolution we predict a strong variation of gap probabilities for small parameters y_{cut} -> 0 in the transition from jets to hadrons. Large gaps between partons …
We consider hadron production in deuteron gold collisions at RHIC in the forward rapidity region. Treating the target nucleus as a Color Glass Condensate and the projectile deuteron as a dilute system of valence quarks, we obtain good agreement with the BRAHMS minimum bias data on charged hadron production in the forward rapidity ($y=3.2$) and low $p_t$ region. We provide predictions for neutral pion production in minimum bias deuteron gold collisions in the forward rapidity region, $y=3.8$, measured by the STAR collaboration at RHIC.
We propose a new kind of two-particle correlation of identified hadrons in longitudinal rapidity space, called $G_{αβ}(y_α,y_β)$, which can reflect clearly the charge correlations of hot quark system produced in AA collisions at LHC energies. It is derived from the basic scenario of quark combination mechanism of hadron production. Like the elliptic flow of identified hadrons at intermediate transverse momentum, this correlation is independent of the absolute hadronic yields but dependent only on the flavor compositions of hadrons, and thus exhibits interesting properties for different kinds o…
We modified the gluon saturation model by rescaling the momentum fraction according to saturation momentum and introduced the Cooper-Frye hydrodynamic evolution to systematically study the pseudo-rapidity distributions of final charged hadrons at different energies and different centralities for Au-Au collisions in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The features of both gluon saturation and hydrodynamic evolution at different energies and different centralities for Au-Au collisions are investigated in this paper.
A new iteration method is proposed for analyzing both the multiplicities and the transverse momentum spectra measured only within a small rapidity interval and with low momentum limit without any inconsistency or ad hoc assumptions and applied to the hadron data by the ALICE collaboration in Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV/A. In order to correctly consider the resonance contribution only to the small rapidity interval, ratios involving only those hadrons whose transverse momentum spectrum is available are considered. In spite of the small number of ratios considered, the fittings of both the rati…
I present the first isolation of azimuth quadrupole components from published $v_2(p_t)$ data (called elliptic flow) as spectra on transverse rapidity $y_t$ for identified pions, kaons and lambdas/protons from minimum-bias Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV. The form of the spectra on $y_t$ indicates that the three hadron species are emitted from a common boosted source with boost $Δy_{t0} \sim 0.6$. The quadrupole spectra have a Lévy form similar to the soft component of the single-particle spectrum, but with significantly reduced ($\sim 0.7\times$) slope parameters $T$. Comparison of quadrupole spe…
In contrast to the recent prediction of high $p_T$ hadron suppression within the parton saturation model, it is shown that multiple parton scattering suffered by the projectile will enhance high $p_T$ hadron spectra in $d+A$ collisions relative to a superposition of binary $p+p$ collisions at RHIC. A stronger enhancement in the forward rapidity region of the projectile is also predicted, resulting in a unique rapidity asymmetry of the hadron spectra at high $p_T$. The shape of the rapidity asymmetry should be reversed for low $p_T$ hadrons that are dominated by soft and coherent interactions w…
We study the energy dependence of the contribution of pion exchange to large-rapidity-gap events in deep inelastic scattering. The results show that this contribution can be quite significant at low energy and that the LRG events observed by E665 collaboration in μXe and μD interactions at 490 $GeV$ can be reasonably well described in terms of meson exchange. We also show that the distribution of the maximum rapidity for all hadrons is quite different from that for charged hadrons only and that the former exhibits also shoulder-like structure for events at 490 $GeV$ similar to that at HERA.
It was recently found that in sulphur-induced nuclear collisions at 200 A GeV the observed strange hadron abundances can be explained within a thermodynamic model where baryons and mesons separately are in a state of relative chemical equilibrium, with overall strangeness being slightly undersaturated, but distributed among the strange hadron channels according to relative chemical equilibrium with a vanishing strange quark chemical potential. We develop a consistent thermodynamic formulation of the concept of relative chemical equilibrium and show how to introduce into the partition function …
We discuss, in the framework of perturbative QCD at next to leading order, two related observables which are usually considered to provide tests of the BFKL dynamics : jet-jet correlations at Tevatron energies and forward particle-jet correlations at HERA. In the first case we study the rapidity gap dependence of the azimuthal correlations and find slightly too strong correlations at large gap. In the second case we discuss the cross section as well as the azimuthal correlations over a rapidity gap range of 5 units. We find that the requirement of a forward particle imposes strong kinematical …
We utilize the ALCOR model for mid-rapidity hadron number predictions at AGS, SPS and RHIC energies. We present simple fits for the energy dependence of stopping and quark production.
We study proton-lead collisions with a new model for the Fock states of the incoming proton. The number of collisions which the proton experiences selects the appropriate Fock state of the proton which generates a multiple of pp-like rapidity distributions. We take as input the pp maximum entropy distributions shifting the respective cm-rapidities and reducing the available energies. A comparison with existing data at 5 TeV is made and results for 8 TeV are presented. We also explore the high multiplicity data in this model.
The Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model supplemented by potentials for both pre-formed hadrons and confined baryons (called UrQMD/M) are used to describe rapidity distributions of both the E895 proton data at AGS energies and the NA49 net proton data at SPS energies. With the help of a coalescence afterburner using only one parameter set of ($R_0$, $P_0$)=(3.8 fm, 0.3 GeV$/$c), both sets of experimental data can be described fairly well except for a small discrepancy seen for the net protons at mid-rapidity from heavy ion collisions (HICs) at high SPS energies. Furtherm…
A two-component model (TCM) for single-particle $p_t$ spectra describes 200 GeV p-p data accurately. Based on that TCM a spectrum hard component was isolated that is related quantitatively to pQCD predictions for jet fragmentation down to low jet energies ($\approx 3$ GeV). We here address jet-related structure in 2D trigger-associated (TA) correlations as a more-detailed method to explore the kinematic limits of low-energy jet production and low-momentum jet fragment structure in p-p collisions. We derive a TCM for p-p TA correlations that can be used to isolate 2D jet-related structure. Infe…
Widths of the rapidity distributions of various identified hadrons generated with the UrQMD-3.4 event generator at all the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) energies have been presented and compared with the existing experimental results. An increase in the width of the rapidity distribution of $Λ$ could be seen with both Monte Carlo (MC) and experimental data for the studied energies. Using MC data, the study has been extended to Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. A similar jump, as observed in the plot of rapidity width versus rest mass at Alternati…
Single inclusive hadron production at forward rapidity in high energy p+A collisions is an important probe of the high gluon density regime of QCD and the associated small-$x$ formalism. We revisit an earlier one-loop calculation to illustrate the significance of the "rapidity factorization" approach in this regime. Such factorization separates the very small-$x$ unintegrated gluon density evolution and leads to a new correction term to the physical cross section at one-loop level. Importantly, this rapidity factorization formalism remedies the previous unphysical negative next-to-leading orde…
In the framework of Color Glass Condensate, the pseudo-rapidity distributions of charged hadrons in pp and pA collisions at the LHC are studied with the UGD function from the GBW model. With a $χ^{2}$ analysis of the CMS data in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9,~2.36,~7$ TeV, the normalization factor is obtained and the theoretical results are in good agreement with the perimental data. Then, considering the influence of nucleon hard partons distribution on the number of participants in pA collisions by a Glauber Monte Carlo method, we give the predictive results for the multiplicity distributio…
Quark coalescence predictions for various multi-strange baryon to anti-baryon ratios for central Au+Au collisions at RHIC energies are compared to preliminary data of the STAR collaboration. The formation of Quark Matter and the sudden recombination of its constituent quarks into hadrons is found to be in agreement with these preliminary data. It seems that strange hadron and antihadron production in Au+Au collisions at RHIC is similar to that in Pb+Pb collisions at CERN SPS.
Single top production processes are usually regarded as the ones in which V_tb can be directly measured at hadron colliders. We show that the analysis of the single top rapidity distribution in t-channel and tW production can also set direct limits on V_td. At LHC with 10 fb^-1 at 14 TeV the combined limits on V_td may be reduced by almost a factor of two when the top rapidity distribution is used. This also implies that the limits on V_tb can also be reduced by 15%, since both parameters as well as V_ts must be simultaneously obtained from a global fit to data. At Tevatron the explotation of …
We compute the rapidity distributions of W and Z bosons produced at the Tevatron and the LHC through next-to-next-to leading order in QCD. Our results demonstrate remarkable stability with respect to variations of the factorization and renormalization scales for all values of rapidity accessible in current and future experiments. These processes are therefore ``gold-plated'': current theoretical knowledge yields QCD predictions accurate to better than one percent. These results strengthen the proposal to use W and Z production to determine parton-parton luminosities and constrain parton distri…
We investigate diffractive events in hadron-hadron collisions, in which two jets are produced and separated by a large rapidity gap. In perturbative QCD, the hard color-singlet object exchanged in the t-channel, and responsible for the rapidity gap, is the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) Pomeron. We perform a phenomenological study including the corrections due to next-to-leading logarithms (NLL). Using a renormalisation-group improved NLL kernel, we show that the BFKL predictions are in good agreement with the Tevatron data, and present predictions which could be tested at the LHC.
Saturation models -- colour glass condensate and string percolation -- impose a strict relation between the average transverse momentum, <P_T>, and the rapidity particle densities, dn/dy. By combining this relation with an appropriate evolution equation for dn/dy, and imposing energy-momentum conservation, we obtain a fair description of data, for generic AB collisions (hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus) at all rapidities and (high) energies. Predictions are given for the LHC.
The suppression of high transverse momentum (P_T) jets and hadrons in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions with respect to a p-p baseline in terms of the nuclear suppression factor R_AA is one of the key observables to gauge the density of a hot and dense QCD medium. However, the suppression measured by R_AA is not a straightforward measure of the medium properties, the value of the observable also depends on the ratio of quark to gluon jets and on the slope of the hard parton spectrum, which explains why R_AA is found to be fairly similar at RHIC and LHC despite the very different dynamics.…
Using a multiphase transport model (AMPT), which includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions, we study the rapidity distributions of charged particles such as protons, antiprotons, pions, and kaons in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. The theoretical results for the total charged particle multiplicity at midrapidity are consistent with those measured by the PHOBOS collaboration in central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt s$ = 56 and 130 AGeV. We find that these hadronic observables are much more sensitive to the hadronic interactions than the partonic interactions.
