The charmonium-like states, Y(4260), Y(4350), produced via initial state radiation, as well as the X(3872), and Y(3940), produced in B meson decays from the BABAR B-factory are reviewed. These mesons do not seem consistent with conventional charmonium models, and several alternate hypotheses have been proposed to explain these new discoveries.

We report on measurements of time-dependent CP-violation asymmetries in neutral B meson decays to charmonium and charm final states. The results are obtained from a data sample of 467+/-5 million Y(4S)->BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II B factory.
Belle and BaBar experiments at the KEKB and PEP-II B-factories provide also an excellent environment for spectroscopy studies. In this report we present recent results in the field of charmonium spectroscopy, focusing on new charmonium-like states observed in B decays, and on $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ resonances created in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation through the photon radiative return.
BaBar and Belle have recently revived the interest in charmonium spectroscopy, discovering many unexpected resonances. In this review, I'll focus mostly on the states found in B decays and double $\ccbar$. A better understanding of their production mechanism can help to discriminate among models, confirm tentative $J^{PC}$ assignments, and clarify the overall picture.
We report measurements of charmonium resonances (J/Psi, Psi(2S),Chi_c1) using about 25 fb^-1 of data collected by the BABAR detector around the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We present measurements of inclusive charmonium production of charmonium in B decays and from the continuum, as well as exclusive branching ratios of B mesons into charmonium final states. We present also a measurement of the B0 -> K*0 gamma branching ratio and a search for the decay B0 -> gamma gamma.
A brief review of experimental results on charmonium and charmonium-like hadron spectroscopy at B-factories is presented. A special focus is put on recent results of eta_c and eta_c(2S) study, X(3872) radiative decays, omega J/psi final state study and search for charmonium production in radiative Upsilon decays.
Using 22.7 million BBbar events recorded with the BABAR detector, the inclusive branching fractions for the production of J/psi, psi(2S) and Chi_c in B decays are presented. Combining the charmonium state with a K+-, K0, K*+-, K*0 or neutral pion, B decays are reconstructed exlusively and branching fractions are determined. A preliminary study is also presented fot the B --> eta_c K decay mode.
We report preliminary results on the measurement of branching fractions of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/psi, psi(2S) and chic_c1, and the light mesons are either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
This article summarises measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries in decays of neutral B mesons to charmonium, open-charm and gluonic penguin-dominated charmless final states. Unless otherwise stated, these measurements are based on a sample of approximately 230 million Y(4S) to BBbar decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-factory.
The B factories provide a unique playground for studying the properties of conventional and exotic charmonium states. We present recent results in initial state radiation and two-photon fusion, obtained using the full data set collected by the BaBar experiment. Amongst BaBar 's harvest presented in this talk, the determination of the quantum numbers of the X(3915) resonance, a body of concording evidence pointing to JPC = 1++ for the X(3872), and updates on the family of the Y resonance to the full integrated luminosity.
Recent results in the field of spectroscopy from the BABAR experiment are reported, with particular attention to the new states observed in ISR and $γγ$ interactions using the full BABAR data sample. We confirm the states Y(4260) and Y(4360) with higher precision and for the first time the state Y(4660) is observed. We do not confirm the Y(4008) state reported by Belle. In addition, the analysis of the invariant mass of the $J/ψω$ system produced in $γγ$ interactions is presented in confirmation of the Belle observation of the X(3915) in this process.
Using 8.5M B-anti-B events recorded by the BABAR detector the yield of inclusive J/psi, the branching ratios of psi(2S) and chi_C1 are presented. Combining the charmonium state with either a K+,KS, K*+ or K*0 exclusive B decays are reconstructed and their branching ratios determined. Using the fully reconstructed decays, both the B0 and B+ masses and their difference is measured. Finally the contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B to J/psi K* are determined from an angular analysis.
In this paper the studies of three different B decays to hadronic states are presented. These results are based on 1999-2003 dataset collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The measurements are the hadronic branching fraction of B+ -> J/psi p Lambda-bar, B0 -> J/psi p p-bar, B0 -> D*+D-, and the direct CP-asymmetry in B0 -> D0(CP) K- channels.
Several charmonium-like states above $D\bar{D}$ threshold have been discovered at the Belle and BABAR B-factories. Some of these states are produced via Initial State Radiation (e.g. Y(4260) and Y(4350)), and some are observed in B-meson decays (e.g. X(3872), and Y(3940)). The Belle observations of the enhancements in the $ψ(2S)π^-$ and $χ_{c1}π^-$, i.e. the Z(4430)-, Z_1(4050)-, and Z_2(4250)-, have generated a great deal of interest, because such states must have minimum quark content $(c\bar{c}d\bar{u})$, i.e. these are candidate four-quark state. The BABAR Collaboration does not confirm th…
We present preliminary results on the measurement of the I=1/2 $K π$ $\mathcal{S}$-wave through a model independent partial wave analysis of $η_c$ decays to $K^0_S K^+ π^-$ and $K^+ K^- π^0$ produced in two-photon interactions. We also perform a Dalitz plot analysis of the $J/ψ$ decays to $π^+ π^- π^0$ and $K^+ K^- π^0$ produced by the initial state radiation process.
Spectroscopy results for Belle and BaBar are reported. A particular focus is put on new results of the X(3872) state with its radiative decays to $J$/$ψ$$γ$ and $ψ'$$γ$, its decay into $J$/$ψ$3$π$ and the search for production in radiative Upsilon decays. Another focus is $L$=2 mesons, in particlar a possible $D$-wave assignment to the X(3872) and the confirmation of an Upsilon $D$-wave state.
We confront predictions for hybrid charmonium and other gluonic excitations in the charm region with recently observed structures in the mass range above 3 GeV. The Y(4260), if resonant, is found to agree with expectations for hybrid charmonium. The possibility that other gluonic excitations may be influencing the data in this region is discussed.
The {\it BaBar} experiment has recorded the decays of more than 465$\times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs since 1999, and is reaching an unprecedented precision in the measurement of hadronic B decays. The following results are presented: tests of QCD factorization with the decays $B\to χ_{c0}K^{*} $, $B\to χ_{c1,2}K^{(*)} $, and $\bar{B}^{0}\to D^{(*)0}h^{0}$, $h^0=π^0, η,\ ω, η'$, study of the decays to charmonium $B\to η_c K^{(*)},\ η_c(2S) K^{(*)}$ and $h_cK^{(*)}$, measurement of the mass difference between neutral and charged $B$'s, measurement of the "r" parameters for the extraction of the CKM a…
Recent results on the search for pentaquarks and on charmonium spectroscopy at BaBar are reviewed. The latter includes the observation of the puzzling new state X(3872) -> J/psi pi+ pi- in B decays, and the searches for X(3872) in two-body B decays and initial state radiation events.
We review hadron spectroscopy at BABAR with emphasis on recent results from the studies of the X(3872) state, inclusive charmonia on recoil, double charmonium production, and the broad structure observed at around 4.26 GeV/c^2. These results are preliminary, unless otherwise specified.
Charmonium spectroscopy gained renewed interest after the discovery in 2003 of the unpredicted X(3872) charmonium-like state, above the $D\overline{D}$ threshold. To date many charmonium-like states above the $D\overline{D}$ threshold have been claimed. Some of these states do not easily fit the conventional charmonium picture. In this article we review recent experimental results in this field, reported by the BaBar and Belle Collaborations.
One of the most intriguing puzzles in hadron spectroscopy are the numerous charmonium-like states observed in the last decade, including charged states that are manifestly exotic. The $BABAR$ and Belle experiments have extensively studied those in B meson decays, initial state radiation processes and two photon reactions. We can question what we have understood after 11 year search in this field, and try to combine results to conclude on what these new unpredicted resonant states are, and how they can be accommodated in the theory. Big effort has been made from theoretical and experimental poi…
The last few years have witnessed a renaissance in the spectroscopy of heavy quarks. Several long elusive states have now been firmly identified, and several unexpected states have been reported by the high luminosity experiments at Belle, Babar, CLEO, and Fermilab. These discoveries have posed important theoretical questions for our understanding of QCD, and a variety of theoretical models have been proposed. These developments are critically discussed.
We review recent charmonium and bottomonium spectroscopy results from the B-factories Belle and \babar. A particular focus is given to the new $η_{c}(1S)$ and $η_{c}(2S)$ measurement and to the radiative transitions from $Υ(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$ with converted photons.
In this paper recent results in the field of B meson decays to states containing charm are presented. These analyses are based on the 1999-2003 dataset collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Special attention is devoted to B decays to final states containing D mesons. In addition a few new results from B decays to charmonium states are reported.
We report on exclusive decays of B mesons into final states containing charmonium using data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings. The charmonium states considered here are J/psi, psi(2S), and chi_C1. Branching fractions for several exclusive final states, a measurement of the decay amplitudes for the B0 --> J/psi K* decay, and measurements of the B0 and B+ masses are presented. All of the results we present here are preliminary.
We report measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Chi_c1, and the light meson is either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
The inclusive production of charmonium mesons in B meson decay has been studied in a 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ data set collected by the BaBar experiment operating at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. Branching fractions have been measured for the inclusive production of the charmonium mesons $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $χ_{c1}$, and $χ_{c2}$. The branching fractions are also presented as a function of the center-of-mass momentum of the mesons and of the helicity of the $J/ψ$.
The BaBar experiment and the PEP-II accelerator at SLAC started to take data on May 26, 1999. By the time of this conference, the recorded integrated luminosity was 20 fb^{-1}, of which 8 fb^{-1} were analyzed to provide a first set of physics results. This talk reviews the first measurement of sin2beta and the study of B meson decays to charmonium modes and 2-body charmless decays.
The BaBar experiment at SLAC is designed to measure CP violation in the B meson system, however the very high statistics combined with the different electron and positron beam energies, the detector design and the open trigger allow a wide variety of spectroscopic measurements. We are beginning to tap this potential via several production mechanisms. Here we present recent results from initial state radiation, hadronic jets, few body B and D hadron decays, and interactions in the detector material. We also summarize measurements relevant to Ds meson spectroscopy, pentaquarks and charmonium spe…
Since the discovery of the X(3872) in 2003 the B-factory experiments BaBar and Belle have been driving forces in the spectroscopy of new charmonium-like states. In this article the latest results on the decays X(3872) -> D0 D*0bar and X(3872) -> psi gamma, where psi stands for J/psi or psi(2S), are presented and analyses of Z(4430)+ -> psi pi+ and Z(4050/4250)+ -> chi_c1 pi+ are discussed.
We report branching fraction measurements for exclusive decays of charged and neutral B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium meson. We use a sample of 22.72 +/- 0.36 million B anti-B events collected between October 1999 and October 2000 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The charmonium mesons considered here are J/psi, psi(2S), and chi_c1, and the light meson in the decay is either a K, K^*, or pi^0.
We present a short review on the recent progresses that have been made in meson spectroscopy. We discuss the experimental discoveries made at the BaBar and Belle experiments, as well as the possible interpretations of the new resonances.
We present preliminary measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in B decays. These include new results on the CKM angle alpha based on studies of the decay B -> rho+ rho- and several charmonium and hadronic penguin modes, sensitive to the CKM angle beta, including results on B -> phi K0S, B -> K+K-K0, B -> eta' K0S, B -> f0 K0, and B -> pi0 K0S. We also report on several of results related to the extraction of gamma and (2*beta+gamma) and present limits on CPT violation in B decays.
In this talk, I review the recent experimental developments on charmonium. These mainly include the precision measurements of spin-singlet states $\etac$, $\etac(2S)$, $h_c$, studies of the charmonium-like states X(3872) and the $Y$ states. Charmonium transitions and decays are also discussed.
We report on recent results in spectroscopy from BaBar. This includes the discovery of a new $Λ_c$ baryon, detailed studies of the $D^*_{sJ}(2317)^+$, $D_{sJ}(2460)^+$, X(3872) and Y(4260) particles and the first measurement of hadronic non-$B\bar{B}$ decays of the $Υ(4S)$ meson.
In this mini-review we report on the most recent progress in charm meson spectroscopy. We discuss the precision measurements performed by the BaBar and CLEO-c experiments in the non strange charm meson part and we present the newly discovered strange charmed meson excited states.
During the last few years there has been a renaissance in charm and charmonium spectroscopy with higher precision measurements at the $ψ^{'}$ and $ψ(3770)$ coming from BESII and CLEOc and many new discoveries coming from B-factories. In this paper, I review some new results on "classical" charmonium and $e^+ e^- \to$ hadrons using B-factory Initial State Radiation and two photon events.
We reconstruct the charmonium mesons J/psi, psi(2S) and chi_C1 using a sample of 8.46 x 10^6 B-anti-B events collected by the BABAR detector operating at e^+e^- center of mass energies near the Y(4S) resonance. By measuring rates relative to the branching fraction of the J/psi, we obtain preliminary inclusive B branching fractions of (0.25+/-0.02+/-0.02)% to the psi(2S) and (0.39+/-0.04+/-0.04)% to the chi_C1, and set a 90% confidence level limit of 0.24% on decays through the chi_C2.
We study the rare B meson decays B{+-,0} --> J/ψ K^+ K^- K{+-,0}, B{+-,0} --> J/ψ ϕ K{+-,0}, and search for B0 --> J/ψ ϕ, using 469 million BBbar events collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy collider. We present new measurements of branching fractions and a study of the J/ψϕmass distribution in search of new charmonium-like states. In addition, we search for the decay B0 --> J/ψ ϕ, and find no evidence of a signal.
In this talk, I review the recent experimental results on charmonium spectroscopy from BESIII, Belle, BaBar and CLEOc. Below the open-charm threshold, the masses and widths of spin-singlet states eta_c, eta_c(2S), h_c are measured with high precision. Above the threshold, chi_{c2}(2P) is identified in the process gamma gamma -> chi_{c2}(2P) -> gamma D bar{D}; Evidence of X(3823) is found in the M(chi_{c1} gamma) invariant-mass distribution for B -> gamma chi_{c1} K decays, the measured properties are consistent with the missing psi_2(1^{2}D_2) state.
One of the most intriguing puzzles in hadron spectroscopy are the numerous charmonium-like states observed in the last decade, including charged states that are manifestly exotic. The $BABAR$ experiment has extensively studied those in B meson decays, initial state radiation processes and two photon reactions. The study of the process $B \rightarrow J/ψϕK$, with a search for the resonant states X(4140) and X(4270) in their decays to $J/ψϕ$, will be highlighted. The recent results of the Dalitz analysis of $η_c$ to 3 pseudoscalar mesons, via 2-photon interactions, will be presented in this repo…
We present a mini-review on charm spectroscopy at the BaBar experiment. We first report on the $c\bar{s}$ meson spectrum, and present precise measurements of the $D_{s1}(2536)$ meson as well as the properties of the many new states discovered since 2003 ($D_{s0}^*(2317)$, $D_{s1}(2460)$, $D_{sJ}^*(2860)$, and $D_{sJ}(2700)$ mesons). We then discuss about charmed baryons observed recently in the BaBar experiment: $Ω_c^0$ and $Ω_c^{*0}$ $css$ baryons, $Λ_c(2940)^+$ $udc$ baryon and the $Ξ_c$ $usc/dsc$ baryons.
A brief report of some recent experimental developments concerning the $X$, $Y$ and $Z$ charmoniumlike mesons states and other puzzling states from the BaBar, Belle, BESIII and CDF experiments is presented.
In this talk, we will present the results on the charmonium spin singlet states below the open charm threshold, including h_c, η_c, and η_c(2S). The masses, widthes, and production rates of these states will be reported. The results are based on a data sample of 106 million ψ' events collected with the BESIII experiments at the BEPCII collider.
The BABAR detector, at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC collected a sample of 32 million BBbar pairs whilst operating at energies near the Upsilon(4S) resonance between October 1999 and May 2001. An study of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in events where one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing charmonium produced the measurement sin2beta = 0.59 +- 0.14 (stat) +- 0.05 (syst), which constitutes an observation of CP violation in the B0 meson system at the 4 sigma level. Also presented are preliminary results from a study of CP violation in the decays…
Over the past few years, there has been a lot of progress in the areas of charm and charmonium spectroscopy, in large part due to the very large data samples being accumulated at the e+e- B-Factories. In this presentation I will focus on results in three areas: the X/Y/Z charmonium-candidate states, the D_sJ charmed-strange mesons, and newly-discovered charmed baryons. Note the absence of a section on pentaquarks: all B-Factory searches for pentaquarks, charmed or otherwise, have not yielded any observation of such states.
One of the most intriguing puzzles in hadron spectroscopy are the numerous charmonium-like states observed in the last decade, including charged states that are manifestly exotic. Over the years, the experiment $BABAR$ has extensively studied those in B meson decays, initial state radiation processes and two photon reactions. We report in this paper a new study on some of those states, performed using the entire data sample collected by $BABAR$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions, at center of mass energies near 10.58 GeV/c$^2$. The study of the process $B \rightarrow J/ψϕK$ will be presented, and the sear…
In this talk, we review the recent experimental developments on charmonium and charm spectroscopy base on the data samples taken by the BESIII, Belle, LHCb and CMS experiments. We concentrate on the resonant parameter measurement of $χ_{cJ}$, $η_{c}$, $η_{c}(2S)$, observation of $ψ(1^{3}D_{3})$ candidate and alternative $χ_{c0}(2P)$ candidate, observation of excited $B_{c}$ states, $Ξ(2930)$ states, excited $Ω_{c}$ states and doubly charm baryon, and the study of $Λ_{c}^{*}$ states.
The latest results of CMS in the area of exotic quarkonium decays will be presented: observation of a peaking structure in $J/ψΦ$ mass spectrum in the decay $B^\pm \rightarrow J/ψΦK^\pm$, search for new bottomonium states in $Υ(1\mathrm{S})π^+π^-$ mass spectrum, measurement of prompt $J/ψ$ pair production.
