The photoproduction process of neutral kaons on a liquid deuterium target is investigated near the threshold region, Egamma = 0.8-1.1 GeV. K0 events are reconstructed from positive and negative pions, and differential cross sections are derived. Experimental momentum spectra are compared with those calculated in the spectator model using a realistic deuteron wave function. Elementary amplitudes as given by recent isobar models and a simple phenomenological model are used to study the effect of the new data on the angular behavior of the elementary cross section. The data favor a backward-peaked angular distribution of the elementary n(gamma,K0)Lambda process, which provides additional constraints on current models of kaon photoproduction. The present study demonstrates that the n(gamma,K0)Lambda reaction can provide key information on the mechanism of the photoproduction of strangeness.
We analyse the impact of the recent measurement of kaonic hydrogen X rays by the SIDDHARTA collaboration on the allowed ranges for the kaon-deuteron scattering length in the framework of non-relativistic effective field theory. Based on data from KN scattering only, we predict the kaon-deuteron scattering length A_Kd= (-1.46 + i 1.08) fm, with an estimated uncertainty of about 25% in both the real and the imaginary part.
An experiment designed to investigate the strangeness photoproduction process using a tagged photon beam in the energy range of 0.90 -1.08 GeV incident on a liquid deuterium target was successfully performed. The purpose of the experiment was to measure the production of neutral kaons and the lambda particles on a deuteron. The generation of photo produced particles was verified by the measurement of their decayed charged particles in the Neutral Kaon Spectrometer 2. The reconstructed invariant mass distributions were achieved by selecting events where two or more particles tracks were identif…
Photoproduction of eta-mesons off 3He has been studied at the MAMI accelerator using the Crystal Ball/TAPS detector setup. The total cross section for the coherent eta-photoproduction was measured with improved statistical quality. Both, the total and differential cross sections show evidence for dominant final state interaction. Additionally, the photoproduction of eta- mesons off quasi-free protons and neutrons was studied. The preliminary cross section on the neutron confirms the narrow bump-like structure at W \simeq 1.7 GeV, which was already seen in different experiments on the deuterium…
The search for undiscovered excited states of the nucleon continues to be a focus of experiments at Jefferson Lab.Recent LQCD calculations have confirmed long-standing quark-model predictions of many more states than have so far been identified.A large effort for the N-star program has been launched using the CLAS detector to provide the database that will allow nearly model-independent partial wave analyses to be carried out in the search for such states. Polarization observables play a crucial role in this effort, as they are essential in disentangling overlapping resonant and non-resonant a…
The weak decay parameter $α_-$ of the $Λ$ is an important quantity for the extraction of polarization observables in various experiments. Moreover, in combination with $α_+$ from $\barΛ$ decay it provides a measure for matter-antimatter asymmetry. The weak decay parameter also affects the decay parameters of the $Ξ$ and $Ω$ baryons and, in general, any quantity in which the polarization of the $Λ$ is relevant. The recently reported value by the BESIII collaboration of $0.750(9)(4)$ is significantly larger than the previous PDG value of $0.642(13)$ that had been accepted and used for over 40 ye…
Photoproduction of $Λ$(1520) with liquid hydrogen and deuterium targets was examined at photon energies below 2.4 GeV in the SPring-8 LEPS experiment. For the first time, the differential cross sections were measured at low energies and with a deuterium target. A large asymmetry of the production cross sections from protons and neutrons was observed at backward K$^{+/0}$ angles. This suggests the importance of the contact term, which coexists with t-channel K exchange under gauge invariance. This interpretation was compatible with the differential cross sections, decay asymmetry, and photon be…
We report the first measurement of the differential cross section on $ϕ$-meson photoproduction from deuterium near the production threshold for a proton using the CLAS detector and a tagged-photon beam in Hall B at Jefferson Lab. The measurement was carried out by a triple coincidence detection of a proton, $K^+$ and $K^-$ near the theoretical production threshold of 1.57 GeV. The extracted differential cross sections $\frac{dσ}{dt}$ for the initial photon energy from 1.65-1.75 GeV are consistent with predictions based on a quasifree mechanism. This experiment establishes a baseline for a futu…
Have been analyzed the latest experimental data for $γ+ p \to K^{+} + Λ$ reaction of $C_{x'}$ and $C_{z'}$ double polarizations. In theoretical calculation, all of these observables can be classified into four Legendre classes and represented by associated Legendre polynomial function itself \cite{fasano92}. In this analysis we attempt to determine the best data model for both observables. We use the bayesian technique to select the best model by calculating the posterior probabilities and comparing the posterior among the models. The posteriors probabilities for each data model are computed u…
We report a new measurement of the beam-spin asymmetry $\boldsymbolΣ$ for the $\vecγ n \rightarrow K^+Σ^-$ reaction using quasi-free neutrons in a liquid-deuterium target. The new dataset includes data at previously unmeasured photon energy and angular ranges, thereby providing new constraints on partial wave analyses used to extract properties of the excited nucleon states. The experimental data were obtained using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS), housed in Hall B of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The CLAS detector measured reaction products from a l…
The first experimental investigation of the near-threshold cross section for incoherent $π^-$ photoproduction on the deuteron $γ$ d -> $π^-$ pp is presented. The experimental technique involved detection of the ~131 MeV gamma ray resulting from the radiative capture of photoproduced $π^-$ in the target. The total cross section has been measured using an unpolarized tagged-photon beam, a liquid-deuterium target, and three very large NaI(Tl) spectrometers. The data are compared to theoretical models that give insight into the elementary reaction $γ$ n -> $π^-$ p and pion-nucleon and nucleon-nucl…
In this paper, we present the first tests performed after the full installation of the SIDDHARTA-2 experimental apparatus on the Interaction Region of the DAΦNE collider at the INFN National Laboratories of Frascati. Before starting the first measurement of the kaonic deuterium 2p{\rightarrow}1s transition, accurate evaluation of the background rejection. mainly achieved with the Kaon Trigger system, was required. This run, performed in the period 04-26/05/2022 with a 4 He gaseous target, confirmed the 10^5 rejection factor obtained with a reduced version of the setup and different machine con…
We have investigated the existence of the J^p=1/2^+ narrow resonance predicted by the chiral soliton model by utilizing the kaon photoproduction process gamma + p --> K^+ + Lambda. For this purpose we have constructed two phenomenological models based on our previous effective Lagrangian model, which are able to describe kaon photoproduction from threshold up to W = 1730 MeV. By varying the mass (width) of an inserted P_{11} resonance from 1620 to 1730 MeV (0.1 to 1 MeV and 1 to 10 MeV) a number of fits has been performed in order to search for the resonance mass. Our result indicates that the…
Many excited nucleon states ($N^{*}$s) predicted by quark models, but not observed in $πN$ channels, are expected to couple strongly to kaon--hyperon ($KY$) channels. While in the last decade data have been published for $KY$ photoproduction off the proton, data off the neutron are scarce. In this paper we present preliminary results for the polarization observables $P$, $C_x$, and $C_z$ for the reaction $γd\to K^{0}Λ(p)$, where $(p)$ denotes the spectator proton. The observables cover photon energies, $E_γ$, between 0.9 GeV and 2.6 GeV and kaon center-of-mass angles, cos$θ_{K^{0}}^{CM}$, betw…
We study the photoproduction of the ^12{_Lambda}B hypernucleus within a fully covariant effective Lagrangian based model, employing Lambda bound state spinors derived from the latest quark-meson coupling model. The kaon production vertex is described via creation, propagation and decay of N*(1650), N*(1710), and N*(1720) intermediate baryonic resonant states in the initial collision of the photon with a target proton in the incident channel. The parameters of the resonance vertices are fixed by describing the total and differential cross section data on the elementary gamma (p, K+) Lambda reac…
We investigate kaon photoproduction off the neutron target, i.e., $γn \to K^0 Λ$, focusing on the role of nucleon resonances given in the Review of Particle Data Group in the range of $\sqrt{s} \approx 1600 - 2200$ MeV. We employ an effective Lagrangian method and a Regge approach. The strong couplings of nucleon resonances with $KΛ$ vertices are constrained by quark model predictions. The numerical results of the total and differential cross sections are found to be in qualitative agreement with the recent CLAS and FOREST experimental data. We discuss the effects of the narrow nucleon resonan…
The exclusive reaction $γp \to p K^+ K^-$ was studied in the photon energy range $3.0 - 3.8 \mbox{ GeV}$ and momentum transfer range $0.6<-t<1.3 \mbox{ GeV}^2$. Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In this kinematic range the integrated luminosity was approximately 20 pb$^{-1}$. The reaction was isolated by detecting the $K^+$ and the proton in CLAS, and reconstructing the $K^-$ via the missing-mass technique. Moments of the di-kaon decay angular distributions were extracted from the experimental data. Besides the dominant contributi…
A measurement of beam-helicity asymmetries for single-hadron production in deep-inelastic scattering is presented. Data from the scattering of 27.6 GeV electrons and positrons off gaseous hydrogen and deuterium targets were collected by the HERMES experiment. The asymmetries are presented separately as a function of the Bjorken scaling variable, the hadron transverse momentum, and the fractional energy for charged pions and kaons as well as for protons and anti-protons. These asymmetries are also presented as a function of the three aforementioned kinematic variables simultaneously.
We have determined the transparency of the nuclear medium to kaons from $A(e,e^{'} K^{+})$ measurements on $^{12}$C, $^{63}$Cu, and $^{197}$Au targets. The measurements were performed at the Jefferson Laboratory and span a range in four-momentum-transfer squared Q$^2$=1.1 -- 3.0 GeV$^2$. The nuclear transparency was defined as the ratio of measured kaon electroproduction cross sections with respect to deuterium, ($σ^{A}/σ^{D}$). We further extracted the atomic number ($A$) dependence of the transparency as parametrized by $T= (A/2)^{α-1}$ and, within a simple model assumption, the in-medium ef…
