In this thesis, we consider semi-algebraic sets over a real closed field $R$ defined by quadratic polynomials. Semi-algebraic sets of $R^k$ are defined as the smallest family of sets in $R^k$ that contains the algebraic sets as well as the sets defined by polynomial inequalities, and which is also closed under the boolean operations (complementation, finite unions and finite intersections). We prove new bounds on the Betti numbers as well as on the number of different stable homotopy types of certain fibers of semi-algebraic sets over a real closed field $R$ defined by quadratic polynomials, in terms of the parameters of the system of polynomials defining them, which improve the known results. We conclude the thesis with presenting two new algorithms along with their implementations. The first algorithm computes the number of connected components and the first Betti number of a semi-algebraic set defined by compact objects in $\mathbb{R}^k$ which are simply connected. This algorithm improves the well-know method using a triangulation of the semi-algebraic set. Moreover, the algorithm has been efficiently implemented which was not possible before. The second algorithm computes efficiently the real intersection of three quadratic surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$ using a semi-numerical approach.
In this article algebraic constructions are introduced in order to study the variety defined by a radical parametrization (a tuple of functions involving complex numbers, $n$ variables, the four field operations and radical extractions). We provide algorithms to implicitize radical parametrizations and to check whether a radical parametrization can be reparametrized into a rational parametrization.
We show that for two afii varieties over an arbitrary field of characteristic zero, there is no general form of an algorithm for checking the presence of an embedding of one algebraic variety in another. Moreover, we establish this for affine varieties whose coordinate rings are given by generators and defining relations. Moreover, one of these varieties can be taken as an affine space, and in the case of a field of real numbers, an affine line.
In this paper we show how we can transform quadratic systems into new quadratic systems after some kind of birational transformations, the quadratic plane Cremona maps. We afterwards apply these transformations to the families of quadratic differential systems having an algebraic limit cycle. As a consequence, we provide a new family of quadratic systems having an algebraic limit cycle of degree 5. Moreover we show how the known families of quadratic differential systems having an algebraic limit cycle of degree greater than four are obtained using these transformations. We also provide the ph…
On Projections of Semi-algebraic Sets Defined by Few Quadratic Inequalities
令$S \subset \R^{k + m}$是由次数最多为2的$S \subset \R^{k + m}$多项式不等式系统定义的紧致半代数集。$ Let $ π $ denote the standard projection from $ \R^{k + m} $ onto $ \R^m $. We prove that for any $ q >0 $, the sum of the first $ q $ Betti numbers of $ π(S)$ is bounded by $(k + m)^{O(q \ell)}. $ We also present an algorithm for computing the the first $ q $ Betti numbers of $ π(S)$, whose complexity is $(k+m)^{2^{O(q \ell)}}。$ For fixed $ q $ and $ \ell $, both the bounds are polynomial in $ k+m$。
We study the interaction between two structures on the group of polynomial automorphisms of the affine plane: its structure as an amalgamated free product and as an infinite-dimensional algebraic variety. We introduce a new conjecture, and show how it implies the Polydegree Conjecture. As the new conjecture is an ideal membership question, this shows that the Polydegree Conjecture is algorithmically decidable. We further describe how this approach provides a unified and shorter method of recovering existing results of Edo and Furter.
We prove new bounds on the Betti numbers of real varieties and semi-algebraic sets that have a more refined dependence on the degrees of the polynomials defining them than results known before. Our method also unifies several different types of results under a single framework, such as bounds depending on the total degrees, on multi-degrees, as well as in the case of quadratic and partially quadratic polynomials. The bounds we present in the case of partially quadratic polynomials offer a significant improvement over what was previously known. Finally, we extend a result of Barone and Basu on …
This paper deals with holomorphic self-maps of the complex projective plane and the algebraic relations among the eigenvalues of the derivatives at the fixed points. These eigenvalues are constrained by certain index theorems such as the holomorphic Lefschetz fixed-point theorem. A simple dimensional argument suggests there must exist even more algebraic relations that the ones currently known. In this work we analyze the case of quadratic self-maps having an invariant line and obtain all such relations. We also prove that a generic quadratic self-map with an invariant line is completely deter…
